it's what a neighborhood bar should be. good pub food, welcoming staff and where locals pull up a stool. love the place

The pot pie lives up to the hype. I'll be back many more times especially in the winter. Good portion size, reasonably priced, and delicious. The house made chips are AMAZING and strongly recommend. read more

This is a great Old Town triangle spot to grab drinks and dinner. Given its age and history, I was expecting more of a dive-bar atmosphere but was surprised by a well kept, organized and well lit restaurant. I met a friend here and we enjoyed a few drinks and their flat breads. The beer choice wasn't long but had good selection of local, import and national options. The bread was excellent - fresh cheese and tomatoes on a crispy layer of bread. Service was great - prompt and friendly. Will find my way back here again at some point. read more

Had the chicken pot pie which was to die for! Great atmosphere here and good food offerings. Service can be a hit or miss though. Wish they were open on Sundays! read more

Really disappointed, loved eating here in the winter but just came by to eat on the patio and they wouldn't allow me to sit there and eat with my dog, they said they don't allow dogs even outside. Will rethink coming back read more

For being the oldest tavern in Chicago, I'd have thought it would have had a lot more character. Food-wise it was "good enough." J. thought his chicken parm was okay but the tomato sauce was a little acidic and "not enough of it." I thought my chicken pot pie was fair to middling. The texture of the white sauce was not as creamy as one expects. It was thin and seemed to be separating (a little). The chicken chunks were dry. I liked the crust. D. thought his pulled pork sandwich was "delicious" and K. liked her mussels with angel hair pasta, but nobody was raving. There are too many other much better taverns with great food to bother going back. It's become a tradition for cubs fans to gather at Marge's and Twin Anchors at the other end of the block either before or after the game. It's the love of tradition that keeps these places going, I think. read more

Have to get here to this old pub some times if you're a fan of old ass bars. It even still has a classic feel to it. Marge's Still has been around a long time and is still popular in Old Town. Get the basic bar food like burgers and fries if you feel like. The prices are kind of high but for the area these are pretty much okay. Came at dinner and it was kind of busy. It's not that big of a place and can feel crowded when there's not even that many people who are inside. The menu is typical of a pub. It's about $12 for a cocktail. There's classics and a few newer ones. Got the French 75, one of the classics. This had a lemony taste. Also we had to eat. The food menu is impressive too. Each of us got the Beyond Burger. It's $17, which is the only bad thing about it. This has the choice of a side and I got it with tater tots. Big burger, helping a bit with the expense. The rest of the menu has typical fried stuff. Got to go here if you like old bars. It's not just drinks but the food is better than expected to be sure. There's a lot of the usual pub grub stuff but there's some healthier options including things for vegetarians. read more

All the food was great. The server was fantastic. The big gripe was the manager? I don't know what her role really was. But, we had closed out after a very enjoyable meal, just chatting. This lady forced her forces us out our seats and told, "can't you see all the people at the door, get up!" We had been at the table after closing for 2 minutes. She then followed us out of the restaurant and told us "I will remember you guys." A very unfortunate end to a pleasant meal. I hope this can be addressed. read more

We walked into Marge's Still on a beautiful September Friday at around 7pm and were seated right away. Marge's Still has a classic, historic neighborhood bar feel. I ordered the World Famous Chicken Pot Pie. It was not on the menu, but I asked the waitress about it and she said that it was off the summer menu, but has recently come back. It was a delicious dish and a reasonable price at $21. I also ordered a Moscow mule and it was great. Overall, Marge's is a nice casual hangout in Old Town with great bar food. read more

Classic cozy bar in the Lincoln Park area. Stopped in here for dinner this week and was pretty impressed. Waiter was really nice and they had a lot of TVs for the games. We tried their famous blue cheese chips, which I was really excited about that, but I'd say I was a little bit underwhelmed. They were still pretty good, but I don't know if I would get a ful order again. After that, I got the burger which I was pretty happy with. I liked how they had a variety of sides that you could choose from. I got the coleslaw, which I thought was very good. This place gives off great day, drinking fall vibes, but it was definitely great to head there during the summer as well. I just wish they had a few more drinks on tap. read more

Marges is great! A fun combination of a cheers bar and laid back restaurant with consistently good food. Prices on food and drinks are reasonable. Great neighborhood pub. Super low key. We came right around opening and were sat right away. Service was quick and everyone was friendly. The prices are a bit high for the atmosphere and quality but nothing crazy just not a huge value. The food was also a bit hit or miss. The pot pie definitely was a hit but the other items were okay. Highly recommend to stop in for a couple drinks and the pot pie though! read more

I just purchased a pot pie from Marge still the last time I purchased it. It was $17. This time it was $25. There was one piece of carrot half a dozen peas. A lot of potatoes very mushy soft crust. I was very disappointed!! I advise anybody that is reading this to not buy a pot pie for Marge still! I ordered it for pick up so I couldn't do very much about it . read more

Oldest bar in Old Town! I think? The chicken pot pie and French onion soup are a must have, but all food I've tried has always been up to par. The chicken pot pie has the perfect buttery, flaky crust and it could feed 2-4 people if you're one to get an appetizer and dessert! read more

I went to try the famous chicken pot pie and I was not disappointed! It's really large and super delicious. Very cute neighborhood bar in the middle of Lincoln Park. I walk past the place everyday, so I figured that I needed to give the place a try. We ordered the chicken pot pie, Cesar salad and greek sandwich. We really didn't enjoy the sandwich or salad, but the pot pie was amazing! The bar reminded me of a traditional English pub with a diverse menu, so if I go back in to future I would get the pot pie. The crust was great and it's so large that it could last for two meals! I'll definitely be back for drinks in the neighborhood. read more

Just a great spot, and the history makes it extra special. FYI - dogs are not allowed on the patio and you cannot pull additional chairs to a table or have people standing. Just be aware...it's inconvenient but the patio is small, so staff needs to be pretty strict because if you give an inch... As for the food and drink - certainly nothing fancy, but what they do they do well. Solid beer list highlighting local breweries. Nice comfort food with good salads and vegetarian options. read more

This bar is extremely chill and I can't wait to go back! I'd been pretty curious about Marge's for almost a year now, but every time I'd passed by was after already eating or drinking somewhere else. Recently my boyfriend and I were driving around nearby when I suggested we stop in here for a drink, and he was up for it. We found free street parking nearby (there's a good amount of it!) and waltzed in around 7pm on a Sunday. The majority of tables up front were occupied with people either grabbing drinks or eating dinner, and all seats at the bar were occupied. We picked a high top table near the front window, and we were followed by a kind waitress. We let her know we were just grabbing drinks and she gave us a few minutes. I decided on an Iowa mule (comes with rye whiskey instead of vodka), and my boyfriend got a Gumballhead beer on draught. Marge's has a pretty extensive beer menu and a full bar, but their draught menu featured only about 6-8 pours. It seems they take care to choose which they have on tap, which I can majorly respect. We sat here and enjoyed the space for about an hour or so, and our waitress came by anytime our glasses seemed like they were getting empty. By around 7:45ish, most of the place had cleared out, so if you ever want to come here for a late-evening drink on a Sunday, you'll have plenty of options for a spot to sit. They're open 'til 1am on Sundays. Marge's was a super relaxing place to hang out and grab a few drinks. The staff was great, the space was clean and vintage, and the crowd wasn't too rowdy. Definitely coming back! read more

We're in Chicago from California, and we selected Old Town for this trip. We discovered Marge's Still a block away from our AirBnb, and we have pledged that this is next year's neighborhood, and Marge's Still is next year's go-to late night place. Marge's is a typical Chicago neighborhood bar. It's clean, the staff is friendly and the drinks were stiff and priced right. We heard so much about the Chicken pot pies that my wife and I ordered two to go along with the French onion soup. We used the pot pie and soup to soak up all the libations we consumed . Honestly the French onion soup should be what they are known for it was soooooo good. The Chicken Pot pie is good but nothing special. We stay south so this won't be a place we visit often but if we're ever in the neighborhood I will definitely find a way to get that French onion soup on my belly..... read more

Best chicken pot pie in Chicago. Noisy fun tavern with great food. Service is friendly, good.

Some of the best comfort food in Chicago. Great neighborhood bar that has great warm service and phenomenal food. Will be back many times.

We live down the street and have been meaning to try this place out. We walked in and there was sign tucked to the side that said "Please wait to be seated" and I wasn't sure if it applied or not. In any case, no one greeted us, or even looked at us for about 5 minutes of us just standing by the door. My partner went up to the bar and asked what to do and we were told to seat ourselves. We got situated and sat down and I noticed that all the tables behind us had empty drinks and seemed to be on the look out for their server. The table behind us eventually got the attention of a server and received drinks. We sat at the table for about ten minutes and several servers walked by and not one acknowledged us or said 'we will be with you in a minute,' let alone take an order, give us water or menus. We ended up just walking out. If they noticed, they didn't say anything. I honestly felt like I was in a different country and didn't understand the culture. Did we do something wrong? Did we do something taboo? It was bizarre. There are some other smaller things that felt off, too many to mention but one was trying to take my coat off and getting bumped rudely by a woman without an 'excuse me' or 'pardon' and then realizing that woman was the server. It was a totally bizarre experience. I am not used to feeling like my presence was so unwelcome in a place. Am bummed this place turned out to be a dud. read more

Excellent food and service. We really like the casual vibe and neighborhood location!

I came here on a Prohibition tour. It was neat to hear the history of the neighborhood and learn more about Chicago between going to some of the oldest bars with the most history. I loved coming to Marge's. The neighborhood is beautiful and the inside was quite charming. I only had one drink while I was there but some friends I had made on the tour grabbed some food and slid me a bite and I was very tempted to order something myself. The bartender was extremely friendly and damn good at her job. If I was a local, I would make it a point to come here regularly. read more

Dependable, homey, and full of tradition, there are few places that still exist that are the "heavy oak bar classic pub" that can walk the walk and talk the talk. Marge's encapsulates all these qualities and more. With friendly staff, a warm and inviting atmosphere, and that old pub feel that everyone should have as their go to neighborhood place. Not only is the atmosphere and staff great, the food holds classic pub fare while including house classics like their chicken pot pie and French onion soup- both which are must haves (and will have you dreaming of like you dream of your mom's best home cooked meal). The pot pie is topped with a buttery and flakey crust and a filling which feels like was made by your gran. The French onion soup is equally delicious (pro-tip- ask for extra cheese on top for a particularly sinful splurge). The depths of flavor and all the components of a perfect French onion make it my favorite spot to pop in on cold Chicago winter evening to defrost from the inside out. While it's my favorite spot to weather the winter, anytime is a good time for Marge's and it's an under rated gem of this city. read more

I had been wanting to try this neighborhood place for a while now and on a recent Saturday night- I got my wish as I met up with a friend for dinner. Marge's Still is located in a space that has been occupied by a neighborhood bar for over 100 years. They have done a nice job with renovating the space including tin ceilings and a long wrap around bar. I also liked the tiled floors and the large windows in front so you can watch the people walk by. Since I was running a little early, I had the opportunity to check out the place as I sipped my drink and waited for my friend to arrive. For a neighborhood joint- I actually thought that the bartender was a little aloof as it took her awhile to acknowledge my presence at the bar. The good news? Once I was served, she knew how to pour a good drink! Tables are available on a "first come, first served" basis- so if you see a table and want to eat- grab it! Since it wasn't too busy, we had a couple of drinks at the bar and then settled into a table in the back. The entire restaurant smells like a rib place. At first I thought it was wafting in from Twin Anchors up the street but it turns out it is from the smoker for their ribs and chicken!! It only seemed natural to order some type of BBQ with all that anticipatory scenting going on! While I wanted ribs- my better judgment took over (too messy!) so I went with the pulled pork sandwich which ended up being less pulled pork and more chunks of rib meat slathered in sauce on a bakery bun. It was actually pretty darn good, and the coleslaw served as a side was tangy and tasty. The only down side was that the fries were limp and undercooked. Too bad for my friend that his food was not as good as his came overcooked and a bit tasteless. Maybe he should have tried the PB&J instead! As for the service? While the server was not particularly attentive- the food did come up quickly. The only hiccup was that I had to ask the manager at one point to send our waiter over to the table so that we could get a drink refill. All in all- I liked the feel and ambiance of this place. I think it just needs some more time to work some of the bugs out. Judging by the amount of families in here- it's well on it's way of keeping its place as a neighborhood gathering spot. read more

The good: From outside in and inside out, the place looks great. It's a place you want to walk into and spend a lot of time in if you can. The pot pie is also no joke. It is absolutely sublime... Super flakey pie crust topping piping hot tasty goodness inside that will warm you up on the coldest days. The mediocre: Ordered french onion soup and calamari for starters. Both incredibly forgetable. The calamari definitely was prefrozen, and the sauce it came with was fresh out of a can or jar. I would take it off the menu. The French onion soup was lukewarm and the bread that came in it was stale and difficult to eat around. The bad: The cocktails. I had probably the worst old fashioned I've ever been served in my life. So many ice little ice cubes that it was watered down to tastelessness before it came to the table. If you come here, my suggestion would be to steer clear of everything except for the pot pie. read more

Bartender was extremely rude to us, spent more time complaining about her boyfriend and kids, she hardly had time for us.
