For being the oldest tavern in Chicago, I'd have thought it would have had a lot more character. Food-wise it was "good enough." J. thought his chicken parm was okay but the tomato sauce was a little acidic and "not enough of it." I thought my chicken pot pie was fair to middling. The texture of the white sauce was not as creamy as one expects. It was thin and seemed to be separating (a little). The chicken chunks were dry. I liked the crust. D. thought his pulled pork sandwich was "delicious" and K. liked her mussels with angel hair pasta, but nobody was raving. There are too many other much better taverns with great food to bother going back. It's become a tradition for cubs fans to gather at Marge's and Twin Anchors at the other end of the block either before or after the game. This is a great Old Town triangle spot to grab drinks and dinner. Given its age and history, I was expecting more of a dive-bar atmosphere but was surprised by a well kept, organized and well lit restaurant. I met a friend here and we enjoyed a few drinks and their flat breads. The beer choice wasn't long but had good selection of local, import and national options. The bread was excellent - fresh cheese and tomatoes on a crispy layer of bread. Service was great - prompt and friendly. Will find my way back here again at some point. read more

All the food was great. The server was fantastic. The big gripe was the manager? I don't know what her role really was. But, we had closed out after a very enjoyable meal, just chatting. This lady forced her forces us out our seats and told, "can't you see all the people at the door, get up!" We had been at the table after closing for 2 minutes. Have to get here to this old pub some times if you're a fan of old ass bars. It even still has a classic feel to it. Marge's Still has been around a long time and is still popular in Old Town. Get the basic bar food like burgers and fries if you feel like. The prices are kind of high but for the area these are pretty much okay. Came at dinner and it was kind of busy. It's not that big of a place and can feel crowded when there's not even that many people who are inside. The menu is typical of a pub. It's about $12 for a cocktail. There's classics and a few newer ones. Got the French 75, one of the classics. This had a lemony taste. Also we had to eat. The food menu is impressive too. Each of us got the Beyond Burger. It's $17, which is the only bad thing about it. This has the choice of a side and I got it with tater tots. Big burger, helping a bit with the expense. The rest of the menu has typical fried stuff. Got to go here if you like old bars. It's not just drinks but the food is better than expected to be sure. We walked into Marge's Still on a beautiful September Friday at around 7pm and were seated right away. Marge's Still has a classic, historic neighborhood bar feel. I ordered the World Famous Chicken Pot Pie. It was not on the menu, but I asked the waitress about it and she said that it was off the summer menu, but has recently come back. Classic cozy bar in the Lincoln Park area. Stopped in here for dinner this week and was pretty impressed. Waiter was really nice and they had a lot of TVs for the games. We tried their famous blue cheese chips, which I was really excited about that, but I'd say I was a little bit underwhelmed. They were still pretty good, but I don't know if I would get a ful order again. After that, I got the burger which I was pretty happy with. I liked how they had a variety of sides that you could choose from. I got the coleslaw, which I thought was very good. Very cute neighborhood bar in the middle of Lincoln Park. I walk past the place everyday, so I figured that I needed to give the place a try. We ordered the chicken pot pie, Cesar salad and greek sandwich. We really didn't enjoy the sandwich or salad, but the pot pie was amazing! The bar reminded me of a traditional English pub with a diverse menu, so if I go back in to future I would get the pot pie. The crust was great and it's so large that it could last for two meals! Just a great spot, and the history makes it extra special. FYI - dogs are not allowed on the patio and you cannot pull additional chairs to a table or have people standing. Just be aware...it's inconvenient but the patio is small, so staff needs to be pretty strict because if you give an inch... This bar is extremely chill and I can't wait to go back! I'd been pretty curious about Marge's for almost a year now, but every time I'd passed by was after already eating or drinking somewhere else. Recently my boyfriend and I were driving around nearby when I suggested we stop in here for a drink, and he was up for it. We found free street parking nearby (there's a good amount of it!) and waltzed in around 7pm on a Sunday. The majority of tables up front were occupied with people either grabbing drinks or eating dinner, and all seats at the bar were occupied. We picked a high top table near the front window, and we were followed by a kind waitress. We let her know we were just grabbing drinks and she gave us a few minutes. I decided on an Iowa mule (comes with rye whiskey instead of vodka), and my boyfriend got a Gumballhead beer on draught. Marge's has a pretty extensive beer menu and a full bar, but their draught menu featured only about 6-8 pours. It seems they take care to choose which they have on tap, which I can majorly respect. We sat here and enjoyed the space for about an hour or so, and our waitress came by anytime our glasses seemed like they were getting empty. By around 7:45ish, most of the place had cleared out, so if you ever want to come here for a late-evening drink on a Sunday, you'll have plenty of options for a spot to sit. They're open 'til 1am on Sundays. Marge's was a super relaxing place to hang out and grab a few drinks. The staff was great, the space was clean and vintage, and the crowd wasn't too rowdy. So this is my absolute favorite pub here in Lincoln Park! Fun fact: Marge's was theee first woman owned bar in Chicago! Established in 1885 and is one of the oldest running pubs in town! We live down the street and have been meaning to try this place out. We walked in and there was sign tucked to the side that said "Please wait to be seated" and I wasn't sure if it applied or not. In any case, no one greeted us, or even looked at us for about 5 minutes of us just standing by the door. My partner went up to the bar and asked what to do and we were told to seat ourselves. We got situated and sat down and I noticed that all the tables behind us had empty drinks and seemed to be on the look out for their server. The table behind us eventually got the attention of a server and received drinks. We sat at the table for about ten minutes and several servers walked by and not one acknowledged us or said 'we will be with you in a minute,' let alone take an order, give us water or menus. We ended up just walking out. If they noticed, they didn't say anything. I honestly felt like I was in a different country and didn't understand the culture. Did we do something wrong? Did we do something taboo? It was bizarre. There are some other smaller things that felt off, too many to mention but one was trying to take my coat off and getting bumped rudely by a woman without an 'excuse me' or 'pardon' and then realizing that woman was the server. It was a totally bizarre experience. I am not used to feeling like my presence was so unwelcome in a place. Am bummed this place turned out to be a dud. read more

I only had one drink while I was there but some friends I had made on the tour grabbed some food and slid me a bite and I was very tempted to order something myself. The French onion soup is equally delicious (pro-tip- ask for extra cheese on top for a particularly sinful splurge). The depths of flavor and all the components of a perfect French onion make it my favorite spot to pop in on cold Chicago winter evening to defrost from the inside out. While it's my favorite spot to weather the winter, anytime is a good time for Marge's and it's an under rated gem of this city. read more

Super flakey pie crust topping piping hot tasty goodness inside that will warm you up on the coldest days. The mediocre: Ordered french onion soup and calamari for starters. Both incredibly forgetable. The calamari definitely was prefrozen, and the sauce it came with was fresh out of a can or jar. I would take it off the menu. The French onion soup was lukewarm and the bread that came in it was stale and difficult to eat around. The bad: The cocktails. I had probably the worst old fashioned I've ever been served in my life. So many ice little ice cubes that it was watered down to tastelessness before it came to the table.
