Went here on a quick date before seeing a movie. Upon walking in, the place was very dirty! There were no customers so I'm not sure why the tables hadn't been cleaned but there was two tables full of dirty dishes from previous parties. I overlooked that. We were handed two menus, the full menu and a smaller white menu with no descriptions. We both ordered a basic shrimp tempura roll off the white menu that was handed to us with no descriptions. The sushi had imitation crab and my boo is allergic to fish so we asked it we could get her roll remade. Instead of the waitress listening she decided to tell us we would have to pay for the sushi to be remade and I explained we just need the imitation crab removed. She then goes and get the full menu and points at the description saying "it's says it has imitation crab" I was immediately irritated because idc what the menu says, we need it remade as she is allergic, she then said "well I'm not the owner" so I was like well if it's a problem I can just leave now and not dine here at all. Suddenly the roll can be remade. It was remade with an attitude which is wild, but my honey really wanted sushi, otherwise I would've left. The sushi was actually good but after the attitude I received the waitress who can't even clean up dirty tables while the restaurant is empty, I probably won't be back. read more

Sloppy dining room, no soap in the restroom, average selection. No soap in the bathroom? That's egregious - it looked like it'd been dry for awhile. First impression was sloppiness - walking in and seeing a very untidy sushi bar, no one greeted me so I sat myself and grabbed a menu. The selections on the menu are average - nothing special, but not even salmon belly which is sad. Service was below average - I turned in an order with a sashimi sampler, no rice roll and 3 sashimi dishes. Two tables were sat in the restaurant and yet it took 21 minutes to get the first item which is highly unusual for any sushi place. I did see a lot of to-go orders being made and put into bags and maybe they don't care about a customer sitting at the bar as much as U er Eats - who knows - I just know that I'm normally given something much much much much quicker without watching a revolving door on a toaster oven. They use a small cheap toaster oven right at the back of the bar which is a bad look if you want to pretend you're a quality place. Ding! Ding! Check out the picture and decide if you think they are cleaned every day. Or ever? Service - the server actually took my iPhone early on and I didn't realize it for a bit - went to my car thinking I had maybe left it there. It wasn't in my car. I came back in and asked her about it and we found it under a napkin and menu she had whisked away from me when I placed my order. I also asked her about Sapporo vs Kirin Ichiban on which was fresher. She replied, "they're both good". The bottle of Sapporo I received had an October 2024 date on it. It's March 2025. No dirty dishes were picked up at all during my stay - I'll include a picture of my area when my check was dropped off and I waited for my card to be rung as they took care of more take out orders. Sushi - first dish was the snapper and salmon sashimi. The snapper tasted tired - not severely pff but definitely not fresh with hints of fridge burn and age. Salmon was fine but again, average. Sashimi sampler A - 8 pieces. But it wasn't sashimi - piece of fake Keab and a cooked shrimp were included. I asked the waitress and she said their customers liked it and I explained that it still says sashimi on the menu so that's what I expected. Eel - looked nice. Really hard to judge as it was absolutely overwhelmed I. Their thick sauce. Normally that tells me the meat wasn't great but I can't say for sure - just crazily heavy handed o. The sauce. Back off! Let the eel speak for itself! Presentation - decent - sushi places generally nail this and I give Sushi Maku a solid average with nothing jumping out negatively or positively over most places. Obviously I've had high end sushi several times and Iits confusing for me to see this place with over a 4 star rating when a place way way better is similarly rated so I have to correct for that. The lack of decent choice in sashimi automatically starts you at a 4, sloppiness cost a half point. The bathroom cost a full point - no soap? Really? And false advertising on sashimi? Yeah, this place is average but gets knocked down to two stars for the bathroom and false advertising I love sushi - I want to clear the confusion to people on the difference so average and below average places need low ratings. Above average places need high ratings. Help educate with reality. This is not a 4+ star place in any way. Go somewhere else. read more

We even had enough time to memorize the menu word by word.. We all had different rolls and we all came to the same conclusion. They were not it.... They did not taste fresh, were very soggy, and they easily fell apart. There was only one server doing it all and she was a running mess. Not even friendly. In total, we were there close to 3 hours for no reason... Their priority is definitely the "to go orders" and for us customers dining in, we seemed to just be in their way. I got delivery from here through Uber Eats one weeknight. I will only have the Uber Eats pricing for this one. I got a Miso Soup $2.20, an order of Fried Beef Gyoza $7.00 for 6 pcs, Philadelphia Roll $7.75, Butterfly Kiss Roll $13.25, Pink Lady Roll $13.25, Ninja Roll $13.25 and an order of Salmon Sashimi $15.95 for 6 pcs. The soup was good but generic. The gyoza did not travel well and ended up being steamed, just alright flavor wise. The Philadelphia roll was good but also generic. I really don't know why I keep getting the Butterfly type rolls as they are always lacking in texture. I did like the taste of both the Ninja and the Pink lady rolls. The salmon on top of the Pink Lady roll seemed cooked which was weird and not sure if that is how it normally comes or not. The Ninja roll is pretty good even though it is a fully fried roll. The different sauces and the cream cheese inside go well together. The sashimi was great, the quality and taste were on point and the size of the pieces was quite large. Overall pretty good and would order form again, especially at their price point since Uber marks up each item. I was surprised by the size of nigiris. The fish was big covering entire rice and also fresh. Yellowtail wasn't the fattest part but still enjoyed it. Great service and affordable prices. Eaten in restaurant and take out. Both great. New to sushi, so only had the basic rolls.

Walking in, I felt this wonderful charm of a cozy, Japanese spot in the suburbs, but my enchantment slowly faded to contempt and emptiness as the meal progressed. I started off with the soft shell crab tempura and fried beef gyoza. Both items were left in the fryer way longer than they should have been. The outside breading itself was scorched in certain spots. The crab definitely had a great crunch, but the over frying ended up zapping any juice the crab would have had. The scorched oil left a dirty taste in between bites. Same feeling for the gyoza, with a few edges completely singed. There was also a lack of moisture in the dumpling dough, though surprisingly some of the fillings still had a drop of moisture. I ordered the scorpion roll, which I thought would hit the spot, but ended up leaving me quite confused and frustrated. The sauce they use on this was very odd. Similar to an unagi sauce, but with a malty profile. It was quite strong and over masked the other items. I could feel the creaminess of the roll, but I sure as hell couldn't taste it. This roll had crabmeat, but they might as well have used tofu for all I know. Structure wise it was quite solid. Not once did the rolls unravel or lose their texture. I will at least give my hat off in this regard. The mackerel sushi nigiri was the only highlight of the meal. Granted not the highest quality mackerel, but at least the rice had a nice, vinegar taste with the fish having a meaty, robust profile. Maybe if I ordered just a Philadelphia roll, I would have been better off. But I doubt it would have been that drastically different. It's a shame that I didn't have a similar experience as the others. If for any reason I find myself back here, I'll probably stick to only sashimi. read more

I can't even comment on the food as we did not stay there long enough to order. My 23 yr old daughter and I went for a very early dinner on a Monday 530 to be exact. We walked in and were not greeted, but went straight to sit at the sushi bar as that what we usually do. The sushi chef behind the bar said we couldn't sit there and to take a seat so that is what we did. I recently had rotator cuff surgery, so I wanted to sit at a larger table to assure not being bumped on either side and mind you, we were told to seat ourselves. There was nobody else in the restaurant except For two men sitting at a four top. As the owner/hostess finally came out to bring us menus she said to us, only two people can you move? At that point I was beyond irritated. Mind you the sushi bar was not open because they were using it as their personal Office with papers scattered everywhere and not the friendliest welcome walking in. I proceeded to get up with my daughter and told the owner, I think we're just going to leave, we can't sit at the bar, we can't sit here so apparently you do not want my business. As we started to walk out the door, the sushi chef behind the bar hollered out bye as if him losing customers meant nothing to him. So from my experience, they do not need business nor want business if that is how they treat customers just walking in the door! No thank you! read more

Came on Monday for a business lunch, party of two. The hostess was gracious and let me grab a table for both of us as I waited for the other person in my party. As I looked through the lunch menu (there are several really good all-day deals) I noticed that the salmon skin roll was on the regular roll menu but not in the choices for the 2 for $9.95 deal, and when I asked I was told that I couldn't substitute it, which was a bit of a bummer. I ended up getting salmon sashimi and a salmon skin roll, both at regular menu pricing, since $5.95 for a roll isn't bad at all. The other person in my party got salmon nigiri and a rainbow roll. When we finally ordered most of the lunch crowd had cleared out but it still took a little longer than I'm used to for the food to come out, and when the salmon nigiri came out there was no wasabi on the side. No problem though, I had more than enough with my sashimi and was able to share. :) The food itself was excellent - loved the crunch in the salmon skin roll, and it wasn't too rice heavy. The flavors were great. The salmon sashimi was cut thick and juicy, and I actually got 7 slices even though the menu advertises 5-6 per order of sashimi.
