Combination lunch: beef teriyaki and sashimi
    Vicky W.

Another great sushi spot in town. Small restaurant with chilling vibe. People are always nice and friendly to serve you, so welcoming. Today I introduce the combination lunch: beef teriyaki and sashimi. Delicious food with great flavors, fresh sashimi and perfect portion. I also like their shrimp and vegetable tempura and udon. Highly recommended.

A nice and cozy mom and pop Japanese restaurant that has lots of options for a great value. The sushi is fresh and very tasty. They have a counter for omakase style dining too. The owner is super friendly and caring. Overall a great spot for a nice meal.

Y'all might be shocked of the 2 stars I have to be honest with the PROS & CONS as there's nothing that's always perfect! Let's start with the PROS: UNIQUENESS- Such a great hole in the wall find that you don't see everywhere! The uniqueness of the experience - teleported to a humble husband & wife operation (parents of a famous ice skater - her photos are plastered on the wall). CHEAP - yup I said it and this is coming from a frugal person. they priced it "cheap" but the value is actually just still the same (quality to portion to price). Most likely won't get full with lunch special / combo order. Practice portion eating?? Aren't you just supposed to eat 80% full anyways?? Per comedian Atsuko Okatsuka. LOL Ok now for the CONS (and the very reason why I didn't nearly eat there as many times and I've checked in, sadly!!! LIMITED seating LIMITED time/hours (they close at 2pm for their break, you HAVE to get there by/b4 1:15pm -- this is very precise based on the amount of visits I went). We even went there before that time on an occasion 1:09 to be exact but due to a full dining room, we also got turned away! I was an absolute eor! Hubby & I joked that it's really us! We swear she remembers our face and auto turns us away. LOL We only GOT to eat there 2x out of 5 hubby and I tried! Out of the 2 hubby's portion was so small yet he claimed to have been enough. Ha! I had their classic lunch special. I do want to return for their buckwheat cold noodle and sashimi combo. At least we now found a fallback plan that could become #1 -- just down the same street - Opus Sushi. Shhh

I entered and was greeted by a lovely lady. Their lunch time is kind of tight so make sure you're there well before 2pm, they start taking last orders around 1:30pm. Their lunch special order is a really good deal with large selection and I also some nigiri sushi. The sushi was actually price per piece so getting another order of the lunch special would've been a better deal. I had the cold soba noodle with tempura and it was really good. I would prefer some more garnish but no complains for their non changing price after many years. Make sure no credit cards under $20, which usually isn't a problem, but their lunch special is such a good deal!

We came in about an hour before it says they closed. It was practically empty and I am shocked that there aren't that many people here. The sashimi a la carte was so fresh! It came with quite a lot of sashimi pieces, miso soup, salad, and rice. Definitely a great hidden spot!

Small mom and pop shop that's been here for a couple of decades. They have a sushi bar and several tables for seating. Limited parking in the back. You can get sashimi, sushi, rolls, udon, combination platters. They also have a variety of appetizers. We may try some next time.

Been to this place for decades. Came during a weekday lunch seems like only the owner (chef) and his wife are working. The restaurant was half full. It doesn't change the quality of food and service. I sat at the bar to order Sushi individually. I had tuna, Spanish mackerel, sea beam and tempura appetizer. Definitely will come back for the great food, memory and support .

This is a small mom and pop sushi restaurant that I've passed by so many times and many years on Baldwin Ave, but never had a chance until this year! There is ample parking in the back of the restaurant so you don't need to park on the busy street. Inside the restaurant, there is seating at the sushi bar and several small tables that can hold 2-4 people. They have a pretty big menu for a sushi restaurant--udon soup noodles, rolls, sushi/sashimi, grilled items. The service was good and attentive. I appreciated the server's comment that we definitely ordered too much between two people. The sashimi and rolls were delicious and the prices were very reasonable. The yellow collar was very dry and bland, so I wouldn't recommend ordering that.

I finally got to try this local gem and really enjoyed the food!! We got the Chef Special Sashimi for 2 ($127), it came with 9 pieces including uni, sweet shrimp and fatty tuna, and grilled Japanese scallops. Daily special orange clam sashimi ($25) fried oyster - follow fellow Yelpers' recommendation and an Auri Special Roll with monkfish liver. The Chef's special sashimi was very satisfying, with a wonderful selection of fish and a different presentation to showcase the different tastes. The clam was a new experience and not much of a surprise in taste. The fried oyster was a-ok, fresh but not as impressive as the sashimi :) The menu didn't include all the options, thankfully there is YELP! that I can use as a reference to order. Omakase needs advance ordering and starting from $100, Chef Special was not listed on the menu, so that was a bit of confusion while ordering. Overall, a very homey and quality sushi restaurant that I would definitely visit again!

Parking can be tight during busy hours, and phone service felt a little rushed during dinner time. Togo orders must be ordered online. We ordered takeout from Sushi Kisen after craving sushi, and it ended up being much more filling than expected. The premium chirashi dinner comes with a generous portion of rice and a great variety of fresh sashimi, while the deluxe sushi dinner is the perfect amount for my husband. The rice is perfectly seasoned, and the fish tastes incredibly fresh. The uni stands out. It was buttery, clean, and not fishy at all, which says a lot because I normally don't order uni. The sides are also delicious and make the meal feel more complete, including pickled vegetables, acorn jelly, and steamed vegetables/sweet potato. Even though we ordered takeout, the restaurant gives off a relaxing and chill ambience that makes me want to come back and try the omakase in person. There's a small shared parking lot with several nearby shops and restaurants, so I can see parking being difficult during peak dinner hours. The lady helping us on the phone also doesn't seem very patient, although it may have just been because we called during the dinner rush. One small complaint is the packaged wasabi, which looks noticeably old and dark green compared to the bright green fresh wasabi included separately. Overall, though, the quality and freshness of the food easily stand out.

There are limited booth seating (about 4 booths), one larger table, and roughly a dozen counter seats. We were a party of 4 with another group of 3 expected at the counter, so we were told next availability would be 7pm. But the owner (also the sushi/master chef) stepped in and offered to squeeze in an extra chair for us at the bar. We happily said yes, and that pretty much set the tone for the night. The ambiance is a cute, homey Japanese-style spot. It's calm and quiet enough to actually have a conversation, which I really appreciated. The owner was also cracking jokes throughout the night and kept everyone entertained, which made the experience feel even more personal. Food highlights: * Eihire (seared stingray fin) - 9/10. Great drinking snack, just wish there was more. * Grilled Angus beef tongue - 9/10. Tender with a really good jalapeño sauce. * Hokkaido uni tray with roasted nori - 10/10. Favorite dish of the night, easily. * Chicken liver, gizzard, and hearts in sweet soy - 10/10. Super rich and flavorful. * Whole grilled seabass - 9.5/10. Perfectly cooked, but could've used more ponzu. * Sous vide + grilled duck breast - 8/10. Solid, especially with salt and hot mustard. The mashed potatoes and roasted veggies on the side were . * Deep fried eel with ponzu - 7/10. Decent, but didn't stand out compared to the other dishes. * Sashimi (amberjack, hamachi, toro, sweet shrimp) - overall great. The sweet shrimp and fried head were 10/10, but the hamachi didn't quite match the rest. Also wish they gave more ginger upfront. * Roasted 5 kinds of vegetables - 7/10. Tasty but a bit pricey for the portion. * Sea snail - the only dish we wouldn't reorder. Not bad, just not our preferred style. Service was excellent. Our server gave great recommendations, kept our water filled, and checked in often without being overbearing. This is a 5-star spot largely because of the owner. Super down to earth, funny, and clearly passionate about both the food and the experience. Parking is free in a shared lot with other businesses. It's a decent size, so should be manageable. Definitely recommend making a reservation (they only take phone reservations)... but even if you don't, there's a good chance they'll still find a way to take care of you. I'd definitely come back to try more dishes.

Restaurant is located in a small strip mall, with a fair amount of parking. There isn't a flashy restaurant sign in front of the building, and once you step in, it truly feels like you are in a small, homey Izikaya in Japan. The restaurant only has a few booths, a few tables and bar seating inside, so reservations are highly recommended on a busy Saturday night. My boyfriend and I got lucky that they were able to accommodate us within 10 minutes, because there was seating available at the bar. There is a physical Drink menu (sake, beer, etc.) and the food menu can be viewed by scanning a QR code with your phone. The waitress made suggestions about which dishes she personally liked & we ordered whatever she suggested, along with some of the things we thought looked good. *7/10 Toro w/ seaweed *8/10 Moriwase (chef's selection of sashimi) 2 each of 5 different sashimi. There was one cut I did not particularly care for. *7/10 chicken wings *10/10 Beef tongue-- Tender, but firm. Delicious, a must try! *10/10 Ankimo-- creamy and paired well with the ponzu and fresh seaweed *10/10 Fried Seabass-- they served the entire fish, which is rare. *10/10 Sous-vide Duck breast-- must try! *10/10 Nikomi stew--simple, but delicious! *10/10 Matcha Oolong Panna Cotta-- subtly sweet with a smooth texture. It was so good, that we ordered two! The only reason that I only gave it a four out of five stars is because the service was slow. All of our dishes, came out in time, but no drink refills were given and the server never came back to collect our check for payment. So we had to walk it up to them ourselves. For a small space, with three servers, it shouldn't be hard to attend to all the customers. The menu can be pricey, but food is delicious! Along with exceptional service, eating here is worth it.
