For the price the food is not bad. I got the teriyaki chicken, tempura, & sashimi. We shared the baked scallop roll too. Sashimi was fresh, tempura was very crispy & I love that the veggies were really thickly cut, and teriyaki chicken was normal. I wasn't a fan of the baked scallop roll. I entered and was greeted by a lovely lady. Their lunch time is kind of tight so make sure you're there well before 2pm, they start taking last orders around 1:30pm. Their lunch special order is a really good deal with large selection and I also some nigiri sushi. The sushi was actually price per piece so getting another order of the lunch special would've been a better deal. I had the cold soba noodle with tempura and it was really good. I would prefer some more garnish but no complains for their non changing price after many years. LOL Ok now for the CONS (and the very reason why I didn't nearly eat there as many times and I've checked in, sadly!!! LIMITED seating LIMITED time/hours (they close at 2pm for their break, you HAVE to get there by/b4 1:15pm -- this is very precise based on the amount of visits I went). We even went there before that time on an occasion 1:09 to be exact but due to a full dining room, we also got turned away! I was an absolute eor! Hubby & I joked that it's really us! We swear she remembers our face and auto turns us away. LOL We only GOT to eat there 2x out of 5 hubby and I tried! Out of the 2 hubby's portion was so small yet he claimed to have been enough. Ha! POLITELY RUDE!!! We have been coming to this place on and off for a few years, and unfortunately things are downgrading... The restaurant is a relatively small mom and pop kinda place with about 7 or 8 tables. The server is polite and the food used to be pretty good. We returned tonight for dinner. Closing time is posted as 9:30pm (on Google and Yelp as well). When we arrived, we were told that they close at 9pm and that the last call for food is at 8:20pm. It was a little before 8pm so we figured it would be fine. Well, I guess is wrong. We sat down and ordered our food. About 5 minutes later, the server came back to tell us it's last call. It was a little before 8:15. The food came out quickly. The portions appeared to have gotten smaller, but that's happening everywhere. Approximately at 8:25 to 8:30, an older lady brought our check. A couple of minutes later, she came back to ask for payment because she's processing closing. I had to stop eating to my credit card out. I then started eating again, trying to finish my meal. The precessed credit charge was brought back and placed on the table. She came back a couple minutes later to ask me to sign so she can finish closing. I had to stop eating once again to sign the credit slip. Just after all this, they start clearing plates without even asking if we were done. I was obviously not finished!! S was about done but was going to help finish our food, but they took her plate... WTF?!!! They kept going back and forth clearing stuff off our table. M was just finishing and they came to get his plate... At least this time they asked if he was done. Haha. I'm still working on my food... Trying to finish. They asked if I was done. I looked at the time and it was just before 8:40pm. I thought their closing time was 9pm?!!! They talk politely, but their actions are so rude. I didn't feel like finishing so I told them to take the plate. The grilled mackerel looked and tasted like it was cooked in the microwave. The ends and sides were kinda burnt and quite dry. The tale part felt very robbery. The oyako donburri had very little to no flavor according to M. We all agreed that the sushi and sashimi were still pretty good. This is a small mom and pop sushi restaurant that I've passed by so many times and many years on Baldwin Ave, but never had a chance until this year! There is ample parking in the back of the restaurant so you don't need to park on the busy street. Inside the restaurant, there is seating at the sushi bar and several small tables that can hold 2-4 people. They have a pretty big menu for a sushi restaurant--udon soup noodles, rolls, sushi/sashimi, grilled items. The service was good and attentive. I appreciated the server's comment that we definitely ordered too much between two people. The sashimi and rolls were delicious and the prices were very reasonable. I finally got to try this local gem and really enjoyed the food!! We got the Chef Special Sashimi for 2 ($127), it came with 9 pieces including uni, sweet shrimp and fatty tuna, and grilled Japanese scallops. Daily special orange clam sashimi ($25) fried oyster - follow fellow Yelpers' recommendation and an Auri Special Roll with monkfish liver. The Chef's special sashimi was very satisfying, with a wonderful selection of fish and a different presentation to showcase the different tastes. The clam was a new experience and not much of a surprise in taste. The fried oyster was a-ok, fresh but not as impressive as the sashimi :) The menu didn't include all the options, thankfully there is YELP! that I can use as a reference to order. Omakase needs advance ordering and starting from $100, Chef Special was not listed on the menu, so that was a bit of confusion while ordering. No joke, the quality is basically like Sugar Fish. It was our first time here and we started off w/ the salmon sushi (2 pc). It was so fresh and tasted rich/ buttery with no fishy aftertaste. They give you a pretty big piece too! Followed by some tuna sashimi, and wow - it was absolutely one of the freshest tuna I've ever had. It had a rich buttery and yet smooth taste to it, really easy to chew Just look at the picture, the color and the texture). It was so good we had to get another order. Philadelphia roll was phenomenal as expected, can never go wrong with this. We also ordered the soft shell crab cut roll, which I forgot to take a picture of. The pieces were pretty big and the soft shell crab tasted fresh and crunchy. The crazy part is..... all of these came out to $55. This is a quaint little sushi spot hidden in the little corner plaza across from the 7-Eleven in Arcadia. The restaurant is run by the family of Mirai Nagasu, who became the first American female figure skater to successfully land the triple axel jump at the Olympics in 2018. It's extremely endearing to see the memorabilia of Nagasu's success posted around the restaurant while enjoying some delicious sushi. Prices are fairly reasonable and portions are fair as well. The sushi is fresh and prepped by Nagasu's father, who works behind the counter. Staff are friendly and service is fairly quick. We ordered from this place as takeout and got 2 sushi mixes, a chirashi bowl, a teriyaki salmon, and some tempura. The sushi mixes include a California hand roll along with various nigiri. I ate the chirashi which included salmon, tuna, yellowtail, albacore, mackerel, shrimp, surf clam, lots of masago, and an egg. The salmon was the best tasting - it is a great cut with lots of fat. The rice is special here since it is full of flavor from the sugar and vinegar added to sushi rice. I've been very impressed in the past by the rice but today I felt it had a little more vinegar than normal so along with certain fish like the mackerel some bites felt sour and bitter. The tempura was mediocre - it isn't well suited for take-out since it was get mushy quickly. The sweet potato piece I ate was a little on the hard side as well so I don't recommend the tempura especially for takeout. read more

My friends who are regulars brought me here and wow. 10/10 would recommend! We opted for the omakase as my friends usually do when they come here. At Kiyosusu, the chef will serve you a couple pieces per round and keep serving you, till you tell him you can't eat anymore. I tried to go here with my daughter an hour and a half before closing, and we followed another couple in and they were seated with no problem. but when we said we had 2 people, they said they were sorry, they couldn't handle it, so they wouldn't serve us.
