Eh, the best thing about this place is the price. $16 is pretty cheap for lunch, although the menu isn't really diverse compared to the dinner, and that price goes up $10 more. There's a lot better places to go, but it's probably the best sushi place you can go to around the lakemoor/mchenry area. SERVICE IS HORRIBLE! I had to flag down my waitress every time I wanted a refill or something else. Let me start by saying that this is the best Sushi I have had anywhere near this area. I had seen the sign for the grand opening and since my wife and I needed to stop by the bank, we figured it was a good time to try it out, as we are both big sushi fans. Located on the end of a strip mall, it is not much to look at from the outside and there is not a lot to attract you to come in, but please don't let that deter you. We were pleasantly surprised by the great atmosphere as we walked in. It was nice to see some care taken in the decoration of a sushi restaurant. As we walked in we were immediately greeted by the staff and given a nice booth. The entire time they were incredibly attentive (admittedly there was only one other couple in the restaurant at the time). We started with the edamame which was good, well salted and a good portion (not too much or too little). As for the sushi, my wife had a tuna roll and a salmon roll. I ordered the spicy tuna roll, the Supersonic roll, and a piece of uni. I had not tried uni (sea urchin) before, but our server said that it had just come in and was very fresh, so I figured I would try. I was VERY pleased with all my selections. My wife said her tuna was excellent and my spicy tuna was the best I have had in a long time. The Supersonic roll (one of the more deluxe rolls) was incredibly flavorful with just the right amount of spice. Thus Uni was also very good and I was glad I tried it. I would definitely get it again. The only reason I gave this restaurant 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the drinks. I had Diet Coke. They brought out a glass with ice and a can. Normally not a problem, but I ended up having 2 cans and when I got the bill they were $1.50 per can, no free refills. Besides that the prices were very good (about $4 for the basic rolls) and the food was great, so I would very much recommend this to anyone even relatively close. One of the worst sushi places I've ever been to. Spicy tuna was sour and the tuna almost warm. Philadelphia roll, too much cream cheese and too little salmon. Not sure if the salmon was well smoked as it was overpowered by the cheese. Eel was just OK. This was my third visit. First visit was OK to good. Second visit was sort of OK. This third visit was my last. I think the telling of quality is the fact that they've gone to AYCE both lunch and dinner. The hostess was helping a child with his homework in a manner which seemed to belittle him without actually teaching him anything, at first I thought she was dealing with a waitress who didn't understand basic math. Sushi was loaded with rice that was overseasoned. The pungent vinegar helped disguise that the fish was less than fresh. It's about the worst sushi I've ever had, as others say, you can get better sushi from a grocery store. Spend a little more and go to Sakura instead for a great experience. After writing my first review we learned that they have an all you can eat sushi menu! We have been here four time since and every time it has been great! Wait times are long during peak dinner hours on the weekend, we went this past Sunday a little bit before dinner rush and got seated promptly and the rolls and appetizers came out quickly. Recently moved to McHenry from Chicago where sushi choices are plentiful. My husband tried the AYCE lunch and said it was really good. I was skeptical because of the location and concerned that the fish would not be fresh. What a surprise! The interior was charming and clean. We were the only 2 people there for lunch, the service was attentive and the quality of the sushi was excellent. I tried an appetizer and multiple rolls which were perfectly portioned and really really tasty. I would definitely go back for dinner, as they have even more roll options that sounded delicious. If service, and order accuracy were better this would be a 4 star review. The restaurant is quaint, and the Koi pond a lovely touch. The all you can eat dinner menu has just about you could ask for, and the $20.99 price is very reasonable. Food is good, and presented nicely. Service was disappointing though. After filling out our order forms, we waited for close to 10 minutes for someone to take them. One of the appetizers never appeared, even though we asked several times about it. Two of us ordered seaweed salad as an appetizer, and both portions were served on one plate which we had to push back and forth to eat...just odd. When ordering more, we always had to flag a server down to take our order form after waiting patiently for them to take it. The restaurant was not overly busy as it was a Tuesday evening, and staff walked by our booth numerous times with our order sheets clearly in sight. After I signed for the meal, our server reached over to the inside seat I was in and grabbed the receipt and pen out of my hand pretty rudely. Really fresh sushi and rolls. This place is pretty deceptive. From the outside it looks like a crappy chinese buffet. When you walk in however, you are pleasant surprised. They were willing to accommodate my friend's dietary restrictions. I really have no complaints and will most certainly be back. Sushi king where to start? Well the store front is kind of intimidating. Its in a dilapidated strip mall. My previous experiences with sushi places in a strip mall are not some thing to write home about, but in this case store fronts are incredibly deceiving . I walked in and I was pleasantly surprised by a very nice dining area. The booths were extremely comfortable. I peeked at the menu. And I was ecstatic to see they have an AYCE dinner and lunch. I checked the dinner menu to see if there was anything that was a must have for me l. that wasnt on the lunch menu. I was happy as heck to see that nope, all my favorite dishes were on the lunch menu. I ordered lots of yellow tail, red clam and fatty white tuna. They even had a few things that I havent seen on an AYCE menu which was a breath of fresh air to see. I even tried some thing unusual to me. Although not my cup of tea but it was made just right perfect texture and taste. Just to sweet for me. The fish over rice was excellent!!! Most everyone who reads my AYCE reviews know my biggest petpev is to much rice in pieces of sushi. This place is wonderful the best I've seen for fairness of rice portions. Well worth the time and money to stop in and check out. used to love this place. starting january 2018 i noticed a major decline in the quality and portion size of their rolls and nigiri. the fish to rice ratio is way off lately. maybe it's cost cutting measures but their sushi seems to be much more rice since 2018 began and the pieces of fish are noticeably smaller than before 2018 began. flavors are muted. but if you're hungry their AYCE lunch and dinner (priced differently and offers different options) will fill you up. i want the old Sushi King back. read more

Overall the food is great, except for the one time I ordered an avocado roll. The avocado wasn't ripe and the seaweed was too chewy. The service is where it's bad. My friend and I came in a couple days ago at around 8:50 pm to order ice cream. The waiter started talking after she seated us and although we couldn't understand it, it was obvious that they were talking behind our backs. After we were done, our ride wasn't there yet so we had to wait a couple of minutes. At around 9:10 the same waiter said,"We are sorry, we are closed." The store said that it closes at 9:30 , so I'm guessing that they just wanted to go home early. This is my ultimate favorite sushi place. I have been eating here since they opened a few years ago and I still go whenever I am in the area. Their all you can eat sushi is so worth it!!! Go for dinner though, even though its just a few dollars extra, the menu is larger and the best rolls are only offered at dinner. After moving farther away it's been several months since I've been able to make a trip here, but this past weekend I did looking forward to the all you can eat sushi. Price and selection remained essentially the same, but I did notice that a lot of the staff had changed, where as before it was always the same people every time I had visited. I was meeting a friend that I hadn't seen in a few weeks and we caught up over sushi. The staff was friendly, but in sort of an off-putting way. Our food came quickly each time we ordered and it was very good, though not exactly as we had remembered it from all of our previous visits. When we were done they brought the checks and we paid, both leaving them a good tip, and sat to chat a while longer. We had been sitting maybe 15 minutes after we had paid our bill when the waitress seemingly begrudgingly came over and asked if we wanted a refill on our waters. I said yes, and she almost seemed surprised but refilled them anyway. We sat and talked for another few minutes when we noticed that the waitresses and bus-staff were staring at us from behind the counter. I would completely understand them wanting to 'shoo' us out if the restaurant was full and there were people waiting for tables, but the place was not even a quarter full and there were plenty of other open booths available also. It was making us uncomfortable so we gathered our things and left and before we had even walked a few feet from the table the bus girl rushed over to clean it up. This location never have items from their menu available. I have tried multiple times to order uni yet after ordering only then do they call to tell me that they do not have it. The lady on the phone was surprised that I wanted to cancel my entire order and makes it so complicated to cancel. I have multiple sushi places by us yet we travel far to order the uni. Twice already. Everytime our order is around $80-100. Should just cross off the uni off the menu or put maybe sometimes in weekends. We went on a weekend and they said that they don't have it after taking our order in store. We also tried their online ordering and ordered the uni again. That's when the restaurant called and said they don't have it after we left the house. We wanted to cancel but she kept asking why and I kept telling her that we wanted uni that's why we're traveling so far. Never again. Thought the food was decent but the menu is a lie.
