It totally changes the taste of the bowl. I also think they up charge for everything which is annoying. In a massive bowl they put one scoop of meat and it's frankly not enough so by the time you add two scoops and one additional topping you're almost north of $20! I wish they had a bit more included and obviously more meat but I'ld settle for a better salad option and like artificial crab or seaweed salad included

When they first opened, they were super generous and upbeat when building your bowl. I think over time it became too much with people asking to add more and more, because she didn't really encourage and kept a stoic look. So I didn't press. The bowls priced here are comparable to other local places... $14-$16. They have burritos and those are $15+. The appetizers are like $7+, so it's a little more expensive than fast food, but I would argue that it's much healthier and worth the added cost. They also have a punch card, so buy 10 bowls and get the 11th free. This time, my wife and I both got a spicy salmon bowl and it was great as usual. We will be back.

In particular, I would like to highlight the amazing service provided by this location. Every employee there I've met is very nice, good at their job, and not to mention fast. There is one employee in particular who I believe deserves heaps of praise. Her name is Uzma, and within my first few visits to Poke Bros, she recognised me as a regular, something that's never happened to me before. Ive come to realise that she recognises all her regular customers, so when I come in and see her working, it just makes my day. I feel very very welcomed every time I come in and see Uzma working, and I come by pretty often, not only because of the food, but because her and our brief but pleasant conversations that happen while she makes my bowl. The Gurnee location would not be the same without her, and I know a few people who can attest to this, people who I have recommended this place to that have also become regulars. We ordered the Aloha Plate and chicken lumpia. The lumpia was soggy, super tiny and just wasn't good. The Aloha Plate was also much too sweet for my taste, and the meat felt pretty standard--similar to what I'd expect from a typical Korean BBQ meal. I usually love mac salad, so i was especially looking forward to that, but unfortunately, it was pretty underwhelming as well. The most disappointing was the service. Service was incredibly slow and not attentive at all.

We started with appetizers of edamame, shrimp tempura, and Crab Rangoon. All were really good, there was a good amount of edamame for the order. Everything was fresh and hot! The portions of the poke bowls were generous and filling. The Hale Ginger dressing was SO DELICIOUS!!! Service was friendly and quick. We placed our order online and picked up. The woman at the counter was appreciative of our order, doubled checked to make sure we weren't missing anything, and thanked us for choosing their business. She was so nice! You know, the kind of thing that might be important to people who want to eat a sushi restaurant when you don't really want to be eating fish or milk. It helps that it's just south of the Crystal Lake downtown, in an area where many restaurants and businesses are. There were a few things (Fried onion dip) where it looked questionably non-vegan and the waitstaff were helpful in pointing out that the onions were fine, but the dip wasn't. Which is fine with me! Really, you don't have to veganize everything. I don't expect magic accommodations. Just don't snow me with claiming things aren't vegan, or at least be able to tell me if things are. I have reasonably low expectations. I want to eat, I want to not get sick from it, and preferably I'd like to enjoy it. I am easy to please. Sushi was reasonably well prepared, and also came out quickly. It was nice to be able to order a roll or two at a time and then have them come to you! However, was the AYCE worth the cost? The jews worth the susheeze (I don't know where I'm going with this made up phrase)? I gotta say no, dawg. I'm pretty sure that as a vegetarian the cost of everything I got was actually way more expensive than the amount I ate. I guess I'm not the volume eater anymore. C'est la vie. I'd still come back, just with their AYCE price so high maybe just getting rolls is the way to go - and I don't see anything wrong with that.
