Blown away I've never been here until today, definitely my families favorite sushi spot now. Each roll was great and the service was fast and staff was extremely friendly. The entire place was cleaned immaculately and the mini mart of candy, food and drinks inside was an extra nice bonus. One star for the great friendly service and well stocked store front. The sushi is not made to order...its cold. Stocked in the fridge with the other refrigerated things. With sushi in its name maybe it should be done right. The poke bowls we had were among the worst we ever tasted (didn't finish either one) no mixed salad greens just iceberg lettuce because she said it didn't spoil. If you use iceberg it's already spoiled! So we opted for brown rice which was at least a day old, it was millie and hard at the same time. Weird looking salmon, it was a pale flesh color with zero fat. As a whole it was terrible. The lowest quality possible (maybe). Living in the Salad Bowl you'd think mixed greens would be the go to, no brain'r. I guess you can stay open on your smiles. Last words...does not deserve a second visit. read more

I Finally had a chance to try the sushi hut in North Salinas. I had a craving for sushi and asked if they had fresh sushi available. You can order a custom to go or you can Purchase sushi that was made the same day in the refrigerator cooler. Overall the sushi was fresh and very tasty and probably could use a little bit more wasabi and ginger. This store has a lot of Japanese and Chinese delicacies and snacks. I hope to be back to check out the rest of their menu. read more

I went to the restaurant which is basically a take-out sushi restaurant in Salinas, an agricultural city in the Central Valley, about 20 miles from Monterey. I figured that I would check it out on my way from Big Sur to the East Bay. I remembered that it was listed in the Yelp best 100 sushi restaurants in the country. The sushi was so fresh that it could have flown off the plate. The poke bowl had incredibly fresh tuna, the rice was excellent, and the other ingredients gave it a tangy taste. I fell in love with this place when it first opened up. Jackie was the sweetest person who could light up any day. Half of the reason we would come is because of her. The bowls were always abundant and the toppings were the right portions. Unfortunately, she has retired so she is no longer there. Instead it is being run by her family members. Although they are some chill people, they don't bring the same energy as Jackie. There have been some changes that has caused my visits to become less frequent. It seems that the bowls are not as full as they used to be even though the prices have gone up. There have been a few times my bowl has only been filled half way or the toppings are scarce (only 2 pieces of avocado or 3 pieces of pineapple) Another issue is that my bowls are sometimes so SOAKED in sauces that it's not enjoyable or even edible to eat. The taste is good so don't knock it till you try it. When the bowls are made just right they're the best anywhere around. read more

I've heard of this place before but never tried it until recently, through my mother. I was honestly shocked at the portion size to price, it was great! They also have some neat drinks and snacks that I would have to go to an Asian Market outside of Salinas to find! I got the poke bowl with brown rice and it was the best. The same guy who's taken my order is swift and polite to customers. He makes sure to ask questions when I add to my order that's already been finished ("Did you want me to put your bowl in the fridge while you wait for the rest of your food or are you dining in?"), and helpful when I can't remember which rolls I should get for my family who don't eat spicy food (In the end he made two rolls without putting anything spicy). Basically he is extremely accommodating, and normally I hate asking employees do to anything beyond what they normally do, so every time I go there it is a very convenient experience. I plan to go nowhere else for poke bowls this good (that are normally good out of reach such as Gilroy, San Jose, etc) read more
