Sashimi (30 pcs) / Tekka Maki
    Devin M.

7.3/10 Tekka Maki roll was fresh and delicious definitely a staple and a must-order every time I have sushi. The sashimi was satiating with generous cuts of each piece; my favorite, of course, was the tuna! I'm giving it a 7 because the roll wasn't rolled properly and kept falling apart, as you can see from the photo. Some of the sashimi pieces also had an unusual seasoning that tasted like Tajín with lime unique, but not really my preference. A few cuts were also a bit too large, making them harder to eat. There were some unique additions as well, like a whole cucumber under the sashimi and some unusual garnishes. Service was fast and efficient, and the ambiance was nice! The place was packed on a Friday night and clearly a popular spot.

Sushi roll not wrapped all the way, it falls apart when you try to pick up with chopsticks

Always enjoy the food and portions! With the sushi rolls, it depends on the sushi chef but sometimes the sushi is filled too much that it cannot be wrapped. Other times, the sushi rolls are hardly ever wrapped properly that whenever you pick up with chopsticks, they fall apart

This is my nieces favorite sushi place and we came here because she suggested it for her HS graduation dinner. Everything we ordered was delicious & I would come again if in the area. Our server was great and our food was served in a timely manner for our party of 9. No mandatory gratuity fee included in our total to my surprise. However, we were happy to leave a voluntary tip for great food and service. i recommend the Salmon dish that comes with miso soup, rice and salad . Sushi rolls are huge without being extra with the rice . I ordered the amazing roll ( eel with shrimp tempura inside . D delicious - not on menu. Saw this ordered by another yelper . We also ordered the bulgogi dish and this was definitely a dish you could shared for two. Also, ordered other rolls and tempura veggies along with gyoza appetizer- we all enjoyed the food. Definitely recommend u try this place out in spite of the low rating of 3 starz - i we had a 5 star experience.

Decided to grab lunch from this place after it was recommended to me by a friend. When we arrived, we were immediately added to the waitlist and told it would be at least a 20 minute wait. There are only four chairs inside to sit and wait, so we just stood aside. I did notice that most people waited outside instead. We waited for about 20 to 25 minutes before being seated. We sat with our menus for about five minutes before someone came to take our order, which was perfect since we were ready to order. We got their edamame, California roll, chicken Katsu entrée, and their combination chicken and salmon plate. Everything was delicious. Their edamame definitely needed more salt, which was available at the table. The restaurant looked clean at the staff, were all friendly and helpful.

I frequent this restaurant often, not too many good choices for sushi in Salinas. I have dined in on may occasions with my family and historically been very pleased with what they offer. Even more often we tend to choose Arigato for take out as it is convenient and delicious. Today was a dine-in experience. And as always I genuinely expected a similar experience. Unfortunately it was not. Let me get the usual items out of the way. The location is great and parking options broad. You can even make your way over to the nearby yogurt ice cream shop for dessert after. My wife and 3-yo daughter were with me. We were seated quickly. My first observation was that the in restaurant music was up so loud I was unable to carry on a conversation with my wife sitting across from me. We requested they lower the volume as it felt counter intuitive to a social event that would consist of food and conversation. The waitresses body language to my wife's question seemed to articulate that might not be a reasonable request. She went to someone more senior to ask, they lowered it so slightly it was almost indistinguishable. At that point we gave up that fight. Their menu is great for adults, and I was pleased to see some child options but it seemed odd that a child portion of a chicken chow mein dish was the same cost as an adult entree. We gave it a try anyway since the options were really limited. Knowing my daughter I inquired about changing the dish with a substitution for something they have. But without skipping a beat the waitress informed me that was not an option. I would note, I would have been happy to may for a substitution so it's seems misalign with making a profit for the owner but... okayyyy. When her dish arrived it was clear why it was priced the same as an adult entree. I was no different than an adult entree. Recommend you adjust your portions and price for children, though I am not sure why I would need to tell a restaurant the obvious. We ordered our food ( Salinas Roll, Crunch roll, Sashimi, Combination Tempura and the Chicken Chow Mein, as well as two Soju's). As the food arrived it was clear the good side of business was easily a 4-5 star experience. Everything looked fresh and was prepared pretty fast. But as the waitress delivered everything it became clear that no plates, silverware for our toddler, soy sauce bowls, etc... we're going to be delivered. I waved her down and after several attempts succeeded in getting everything we needed. But for a waitress in the service industry this would have been consistent with anyone visibly the restaurant. We enjoyed our meals and were ready to pay but our waitress had disappeared. After 10-15 mins she reappeared and we asked for the bill. As I waited my wife and daughter used the restroom. When they returned my wife noted that our child was afraid to use the bathroom and I quote "I'm scared". Assuming she was just exaggerating I didn't think anything more of it until after receiving the bill I chose to use the restroom. As I opened it I was surprised, it was dungeon dark with a decor in all dark grays. A lone small light above the sink was the only lighting in the room, a rather comfortable sized bathroom as well making the shadows by the toilet and door more noticeable. Now I understood my daughter's response. Well lit I am sure the bathroom is nice. Dimly lit it just seems creepy and makes ine feel you are trying to hide the dirt. In the end my overall experience felt like a 3 star experience with a 4-5 star meal. But all of those other things just diminished the dining experience. I am posting photos of our dishes and I think they taste as good as they look, but I feel like takeout is in my future with them.

This place is always a hit . Sushi is always fairly good sized the service is on point about every time. Low lighting and good busy atmosphere makes it kinda nice to chat eat drink and chill. The wait is never too crazy

Came here for lunch on the way home from a road trip. Located in a huge strip mall with plenty of parking. We were seated right away and given a high chair for our toddler. Two restrooms in the back. Decor is dim lighting and modern. Feel like a place you go to after partying. We ordered a couple rolls and an udon for the kiddo. Udon was filled with veggies which was much appreciated but the broth didn't taste good. Sushi rolls were good although heavy on the sauce. We do plan on returning when we go on road trips in the future.

Came on a Friday for lunch when visiting family. This is their go to spot for Japanese food in town. We were welcomed & seated immediately by the polite hostess. The restaurant is dim, has some nice decorative touches & wallpaper, has a couple of TVs by the bar. Adult contemporary music played a little too loudly. We ordered the Seaweed Salad as an appetizer. From their Lunch Specials Menu, we ordered-- Chicken Teriyaki with Tempura Lunch Box Beef Teriyaki with Tempura Lunch Box Alaska Roll Red and Sweet Roll Amazing Roll My goodness, it was A LOT of food!! The rolls were huge as well!! I was quite surprised, especially for the price! The good--Generous amount of food, it all tasted good, some of the fish pieces on top of the rolls were like nigiri portions! The meh--The distribution of ingredients in the somewhat bland miso soup was uneven, the CA roll was mostly crab mix with scant avo & no cucumber, the tempura shrimp was a thin piece of shrimp with lots of batter, so much food is all together on on. Our server was friendly & smiley. She made sure to check in on us multiple times & let us know the status of our food. She did drop drinks & dishware off at one spot on the table to distribute ourselves. Most of our food came out at once, but one of the lunches had a notable lag time. Overall, a good lunch & you get a lot of bang for your buck with the specials.

Good at Lunch, Ok at Dinner It was busy at both Food in pics at noon, it was quiet and then got busy and noisy. Take out for ppl who don't want to be part of rush hour. Drink wise: they do have fountain drinks(sodas) and Alcohol, but I don't drink because of dietary restriction. I drink mostly sparkling waters or water. If Arigato had Zevia sodas, it be win-win because it's Stevia leaf and carbonated. There is also Stevia leaf and Teas. Bathrooms are good, just for advice for ppl to use hand dryer, or put instruction how to use. I figured it out eventually, or paper towels? ~tap machine opening makes your hands dry ~ My brother has a fetish for spicy food... I loved Caterpillar and dragon roll, they are very yummy. Very avocado healthy. Today was birthday lunch, a weekend before it.

Most important thing to know is: THE SUSHI SERVINGS ARE HUGE! And delicious, can't forget that part. Totally worth it. I always enjoy eating here. Servers get a little confused because they seem to help each other out, so not a big deal. Food always comes out hot and tasty.

When I spoke to the person who took my order she was having a hard time hearing me and she said their phone is like that sometimes. I eventually got to a point where she said she could hear me. I ordered Some sunomono with crab and I asked for a "Kokoro Sashimi" with the "Salmon Sashimi" which I included what that is in the photos with this review. The young lady immediately asked me which type of Ca roll I'd like with it. I said it doesn't come with a Ca roll it comes with rice, salad and soup. Very insistently the young lady said we don't have a "Kokoro Sashimi" only a "combo" I said I'm looking at it right now on your website and it says you do have what I'm asking for. After a few minutes of back and forth and being put on hold she comes back with yes they do have that. I said Great!! With salmon please. She the. Said literally right after I said that "What kind of Sashimi did you want? I said SAlMON" please. She the repeated my order as "Tuna" sashimi and Again I corrected her and said SALMON please not Tuna I do not like Tuna. She said oh okay. She asked if wanted anything else I said no thank you and she again... says That was "Tuna?? Right??" ‍‍ I said no I would like Salmon!! I ran down to the restaurant from SVMH and grabbed my bag and paid for my meal I even tipped better than usual because it was ready fast. I stupidly didn't look in the tied off bag I was in a hurry. I get back the hospital to sit down and eat and..wait for it... it's TUNA!! I was upset but I politely called the restaurant and they told me that the clerk had double verified that I ordered "Tuna" I said well I should have checked my bad while I was there because I know I ordered Salmon and said it more than 3 times. I NEVER order tuna. She said well it wouldn't have mattered because you ordered Tuna so we wouldn't have given you a free Sashimi anyway. I told them I just spent $42 bucks for 9 pieces of tuna salad and cucumber salad on the side. I didn't even get my soup and I'm not asking for free food just what I ordered. Bottom line I won't be back they said next time remind them what happened they'll ad some soup or an extra salad. This was not a good experience especially since I don't normally treat myself to such an expensive lunch. Too bad Kokoro I have brought you tons of business over the years between friends, family gatherings etc.. I won't be back! FYI I didn't order online because I wanted double salad no rice and they option wasn't there online.

Sarku had the longest line of customers, which was honestly what gave me the vote of confidence to try it, but once I started eating, I realized that must have been because it was located in a prime location of the food court! For example, the salad was pulled straight out of a newly-opened plastic bag. It was some kind of spring mix. There was no washing, no tossing, and no dressing. It was just a handful of dry leaves placed on my paper tray. That wouldn't have been too terrible if everything else had flavor, but alas, that wasn't the case. We had to go back to the counter in search for packets of sauce...any sauce. The "teriyaki chicken" was "just chicken". There was minimal teriyaki flavor and pretty dry. The rice was cooked well though, so that was good. The dumplings were crispy and dry. In any case, my daughter and I were hungry and still ate most of it. Our favorite items were drinks from a juice cart down the hall though. Sorry, Sarku!
