I bought a slew of dim sum for my wife as a celebration. I wasn't familiar with this place, but other reviews were good, so I had hope. Since another "Lordly Eggroll" place stopped selling dim sum, I had to find another place that did. I called earlier in the week to put my order in. The lady who took my call was friendly and on her game. Order taken, no need to pay in advance, life is good. I show up at the agreed time and the girl at the counter was also friendly and attentive. I waited maybe 10 minutes for everything to be finished (it was a large order for the family). Nice family owned place. Clean. The food cane out and it was perfect! Admittedly, i couldn't wait on the shu mai. I had to sneak one on the way home. Oh wow! Are they good!! In fact, everything was absolutely delicious! The sticky rice balls in lotus leaf! I came in for lunch and there were plentiful seatings and a good ambiance. Service was attentive and nice. Just got water for drinks, and it was straight tap water no filter, not good. I did like the chili oil on the table. The lunch special was expensive for a "lunch special" priced at $17 per meal. It came with a side of soup of either egg drop soup or hot and sour. Then your choice of entree with either rice, fried rice, or chow mein for an additional $3. Then also one egg roll. The food was decent. I got the Mongolian beef with the chow mein upgrade and egg drop soup. My partner had gotten kung pao chicken but it wasn't spicy. We might've gotten the wrong dish(?). There was A LOT of food for one $17 lunch meal as shown in the picture. This meal could've been a 2 person meal for sure, splitting it at $8.50 per person; which would've been more reasonable than ordering 2 separate meals. So unless you have the intentions to either share with someone or eat leftovers (because it's basically 2 meals) I think it's an okay deal. But if you don't dine in, you don't get soup so you lose out on value a bit and ordering it online is more expensive. Wouldn't come back because it just wasn't adding up right for me. read more

Dim sum is always my go to!! I can never get enough. I love this spot and this is the one spot I miss the most since I moved away. This was our first time trying their soup which I didn't get a picture of, but their sizzling rice was so damn good. We ordered it with chicken and I love the amount of veggies that they include in theirs. We got the salt and pepper shrimp and I'm impressed that they used the extra large shrimps so they didn't shrivel small when cooking. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area. We dropped in Saturday at 11am to have brunch after stopping by a store. This was the only Dim sum place I could find in Salinas. There was only 1 table taken. We ordered the lunch combo pork spareribs with black Bean sauce and a bunch of dim sum items. The best item was the spareribs. Decent items were the hot & sour soup, shrimp dumpling, tofu skin wrap, Siu Mai. The skin on the shrimp chives dumpling was too thick and the inside is like a shrimp Ball instead of just chives and shrimp pieces like other places. The pan fried turnip was ok. Think it has a lot of flour with some dried shrimp, Chinese sausage, and squid. The veggie eggroll that came with the lunch combo was ok. We order meat type of eggrolls. I think they are better for Chinese food instead of dim sum. And they don't push dim sum carts here. The food came out at a good pace so we didn't feel rushed. While we were eating, we were mesmerized by what was being played on one of their large UHD monitors. They told us it was a YouTube channel, Dianxi Xiaoge. (We had to look her up!) Her video shows her foraging for vegetables and proteins from her family farm in Yunnan and from the surrounding forest. Then she meticulously and very elegantly prepares the food for her family for their evening meal. Watching this seemed to enhance our dining experience in this very nice restaurant! From the dim sum menu, I asked for soup dumplings and was told it was listed on menu as Shanghai Dumplings. The dumplings were very meaty & porky in flavor, but I didn't get any broth as you would expect from soup dumplings. So not sure if they were really soup dumplings. Still, they were very tasty, and can easily be a crowd pleaser. Also ordered steamed spareribs from the dim sum menu. Great flavor, may not be suitable for you if you prefer leaner meat. The pork is tender and really fatty, which is honestly how I love my pork! Overall, flavor to me is authentic. The food is somewhat comparable to what I would get in San Jose (aka Asian food Mecca in Bay Area). My total came out to about $32 for all 3 items. In this age of inflation, it's hard to tell if price is average or not. I will definitely be back again, and again. I think you will too so give them a try. read more

We did not expect this when we stopped by Salinas on our road trip. This is an authentic Chinese restaurant with delicious and fresh ingredients in all their dishes. The bbq pork bun was fluffy and bbq port had the right amount of sweetness. The crispy noodles were crunch and had enough veggies and sauce to combine into some awesome flavors. The lunch combo was a great deal. And the special stuffed shrimp/pork roll was something we've never had anywhere else before. Totally delicious! Highly recommended for anyone in the area. Been trying to come here since last year. Took my fiancé out for his first Dim Sum experience. Yes, his first time. He's THAT white guy, that needed to be cultured. We ordered Dim Sum family style, like all Asian families do. He looked super concerned that all this food came out. I'm surprised he really liked the Sesame Balls out of all things. There was no wait to be seated. The server was courteous and quick to serve us. The sprite was what we expected. But here goes the short but bitter review. We were not impartial in our judgment of this joint. We had just completed an 11 mile hike and 2,050 feet elevation gain at Pinnacle. We knew anything made of calories would have satisfied us. But then here we are. The vegetable delight was decent. The tofu skin with Pork dim sum was Bland. But my high expectations sat with a combination Egg Foo Young and I am saddened to have been so deeply disappointed by it. The portions are large as you can see with the picture, but after taking the leftovers for to go, we ended up just leaving it because it was not worth the trouble. There's a bit of guilt with this review, because it rates closer to a 1.85 out of 5 stars. I've tried their dim sum here before and they're decent but this past week, I wanted to try something new. I ordered their Roasted Duck plate and Ox Tail Noodle Soup. The duck was cooked nice. Not overcooked, not dry, just the right amount of seasoning and the bao had a sweet soft pillowy texture to the bun. There's a good amount of different veggies that came with the plate. My only complaints about this dish is the veggies were semi fresh and not enough duck to bao. This dish came with 6 bao buns and I can finish all the duck with just 4 bao buns. 3/5 The Ox Tail Noodle Soup is a different story. It was not edible. Upon arriving, I knew the soup looked off just by looking at the color of the soup but I still gave it a try. I took a small sip of the soup and it tasted like (I don't want to be mean) sewage water with a hint of star anise. The noodle and the bok choy soaked up the taste of the soup also. Wasn't pleasant. The ox tail was decent. Took 1 bite of each ingredient and stopped. I couldn't get past the murky color and taste of the soup. 0/5 Service/Cleanliness 4/5 Too expensive. 2 dish, $51, no tip. read more

Heading down the 101 freeway, the restaurant's name lead us to check out their menu on Yelp, and we are glad we did. It was quite a treat to find such an eatery outside of a major metropolitan area offering possible authentic fare. We were excited to give this location a try. The Dim Sum Inn is located only a few blocks off the 101 freeway in Salinas. Upon entering the restaurant, it is noticeably clean and spacious with multiple dining & a banquet areas. The friendly staff quickly acknowledged and greeted us. Several plexiglass shields have been installed around the cashier/checkout area. Every other table is blocked off to promote social distancing. We observed a table being sanitized immediately after another party departed the restaurant. All staff were wearing face coverings. We appreciate their efforts in trying to keep everyone safe. Although they offer a traditional menu of Chinese dishes, they also have an amazing menu of over 70 different authentic varieties of dim sum. We ordered several selections, as we were pleased to find our favorite dim sum choices along with a few we have never tried. We chose: Har Gow, Pork Shu Mai, Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf with Chicken, Rice Noodle Roll with BBQ pork, Turnip Cake, Hot & Sour Dumplings and Pork Belly Bao. Our dishes were brought out a couple at a time so that everything was not placed on the table at once. This facilitates the ability to savor each dish while it was fresh and hot from the kitchen. Oh dear oh my, were we full! We finished almost everything we ordered. Big eyes...little tummies, would describe the all-too-many wonderful selections we choose, and devoured. The product quality and size sincerely impressed us, as did the taste. The food was equivalent to some of the best dim sum we've had anywhere. Drool worthy to say the least. We savored every bite as the quality of each selection made our taste buds dance.
