We ordered 5 dishes using takeout as we passed through Salinas on our way home. Food was prepared in 15-20 minutes. So far, so good. We ordered salt and pepper shrimp, wonton with peanut sauce, potstickers, sesame beef, and Thai style beef chow fun. None of these dishes stood out. All 5 were very average. No inspiration or exciting preparations here. Even though we ask for spicy preparations, none were prepared spicy. There's nothing wrong with Eagle except the food is very average with nothing to get excited about. I'm looking for more exciting food. The search continues.

More Specific: I went here with my Chinese grandparents and mother and they agree also that it's the best in town. If you like sweet and sour, they've got the best. For more traditional, the steamed pork with salted fish and ginger is AWESOME as is the Beef and Bitter Melon and Black Bean Spareribs. We ordered a Bento box of sushi and sashimi, a seaweed salad, and a shrimp tempura roll. The sushi chef only had our order to work on, so we got our food very promptly. Quite generous portions for the sushi and sashimi items (quite large chunks of fish as sashimi, and five or six big pieces of fish on rice for the sushi). However, we're used to Bento boxes coming with some other elements in addition to the main named items; there were none, and although there were cardboard shipping cartons containing traditional Bento Box trays stacked next the the sushi chef's station, we were served the sushi and sashimi items on a platter. We were also served quite a large portion of seaweed salad, and five pieces of shrimp tempura with our order. No dessert available (no mochi, green tea ice cream), but we each got a fortune cookie. The restaurant looks like it does most of its business as carryout, so maybe decor is not so important, but there is none. The red chairs are the only decor present.
