Sizzling rice soup, green bean lunch meal, expired fortune cookies and sweet and sour soup, crab wontons app and fried prawns appetizer.
Erin W.

I use to come here as a child and loved it. The decor is beautiful. It's a great size. The lunch I had wasn't great, with the exception on the green beans. The fortune cookies were stale. The fried crab wontons were overcooked. The fried prawns were ok. The sweet and sour pork was ok. The sizing rice soup was ok. I wasn't impressed enough to return honestly.

Solid 3 star restaurant. With less than 3 people, I would find another Chinese spot. Chef Lee does not offer plate deals and I really don't like that. For me, it's variety I want at a Chinese restaurant. I want a little chow mein, fried rice, a couple of main dishes. You know, the typical Chinese restaurant plate. We only had a party of two so we had to over order for variety sake. The chicken chow mein was a little bland but the portion was large. The garlic chicken was almost all onion and I didn't taste any garlic. The Mu-Shu Pork was delicious. The service was really good. Our waitress kept the drinks full. The bathroom was pretty bad, and the paper towel dispensers were empty. The ambiance was good. I dig a Chinese restaurant with the traditional decor. Overall a good 3 star experience.

I really like their sizzling rice soup, fast and friendly service. My cousin and I enjoyed a nice quiet atmosphere. Family friendly, delicious food. I will definitely return every time I visit. Plenty of parking.

Stood in front of the register to be seated for about 15-20mins. And when they Finally got to us, they told us no more sit down dine in. The only reason we came here was for sit down meal. They should've told us as soon as we walked in if anything. Very unprofessional. Plus the online hours are incorrect. Please update this

I was shopping at a nearby store and decided to try Chef Lee's Mandarin House. Immediately, I thought to myself, don't do Chinese food in Salinas. Heck, I'm from an area that has dozens of great Chinese restaurants, but I had to have my Chinese food fix for the week. I ordered the Mongolian Beef and Sweet and Sour chicken. First, the Mongolian Beef was filled with green onions, and the flavor had an oyster sauce taste with no spice at all. The purpose of Mongolian Beef is the Szechuan style with some heat. This lack heat and flavor. The sweet and sour chicken was neither sweet or sour. I've had better from our local grocery store that sells Chinese food, i.e. Bel Air. I would stay away from this place.

This man right here got mad because I asked for a glass of water he started cussing me off in his language can't believe it

I think overall the food was mediocre. I ordered chicken and it was just okay. The chicken came out in small pieces.

Then curiosity finally won. I arrived mid-afternoon to a surprisingly packed house--always a promising sign. As luck would have it, one table remained, and an older woman kindly waved me over to claim it. About five minutes later she returned with a place setting, menu, and the essential opening question: "What would you like to drink?" (Water, in my case.) Three minutes after that, a younger server zipped past, apologized for the brief wait, and efficiently took my order. I went with the Sweet & Sour Pork lunch special ($13.95), which came with an egg roll and fried rice. The portion was generous enough to qualify as both lunch and a future encore at home. The egg roll and fried rice were solid. The sweet and sour pork was decent--loaded with pineapple chunks, though curiously missing the usual bell peppers. The sauce leaned a bit enthusiastically toward the "sweet" side as well. Still, it was a filling meal and I ended up boxing half for later. Friendly service, hearty portions, and reasonable prices--three good reasons I'll likely return and give the rest of the menu a spin. Value: 4 out of 5 Atmosphere: noisy, 3 out of 5 Service: 4 out of 5 Bathroom: one unisex, so it's popular Verdict: 4 out of 5

Prices have increased by about $2-4 each item, which isn't too bad. Second thing we encountered was an additional charge on my friend's card. The receipt stated that it was $58. We used my friend's card for the food and had extra cash so we opted out of an on-card tip. When my friend received the charge, it was $70!!! We brought it to a staff members attention and were quickly shut down by the lady that charged us. She said that it's what banks do and that it would give us back what wasn't charged??? She said to come back next month with a bank statement to prove it was actually taken to get his refund, if needed. We sat there in awe being yelled at by the team so we kept our mouths shut and left. It was MY first time here (my friend said he and his family come often and order large amounts) and that they've never had problems. Although, he did say his family tends to pay in cash. Not sure if I'd come again because of this sticky interaction.

I actually had to circle back to find it, which already made it feel like a bit of a hidden gem. Arriving around 1:30 pm, the dining room was completely empty at first glance. For a moment I wondered if they were closed, until I noticed the doors slightly ajar. Not long after stepping in, I was greeted and invited to sit wherever I liked, which added a relaxed, unhurried feel to the whole experience. I went with the Mango Beef Special Lunch Combo ($10.99) The dish came with generous crisp vegetables, chunks of mango that paired nicely with the zesty savory beef. The fried rice and chow mein leaned a bit on the mild side flavor-wise, but a touch of chili oil and some of the entrée sauce brought everything to life. The combo also includes soup of the day and your choice of appetizer, making it a well-rounded plate. Portion-wise, it's more than fair--especially for the price. In fact, it easily undercuts most nearby Chinese spots and even fast food options, in the later case being obviously fresher and more balanced alternative. This feels like the kind of place you root for. I'll be back to explore more of the menu--and honestly, I'd take supporting a quiet local kitchen like this over a fast food chain any day.

They're lunch specials are fairly priced, 13.99 and they have a big selection. I ordered the chicken and vegetables with fried rice and noodles. My favorite part was the side soup that comes with it, the broth was really flavorful and the little rice topping have it a good crunch. My dish itself lacked flavor honestly, tasted bland. The noodles were on the dry side, but the fried rice was good. There was only one server during a lunch rush, you could tell she was a little overwhelmed, but she managed to help everyone.
