If you're in the Salinas area, this is a great spot for teppanyaki! I was in town for a work trip, and this place is conveniently located near the hotel I usually stay at. We both went with the teppanyaki dinner, and it did not disappoint. The meat was cooked perfectly, and the chef added a fun touch with his humor throughout the meal. Beer is nice and cold! One thing to note--the lighting in the restaurant is extremely bright. It's almost blinding. They could definitely benefit from dimming the lights a bit to create a cozier, more relaxed ambiance. That said, the portions were generous, and we left feeling more than satisfied. I'd definitely recommend this place--especially in Salinas, where dining options are somewhat limited. Cheers!

A mouse was eating scraps on the floor AFTER I ate. They didn't even offer a discount at all. I literally feel like vomitting. Please try cleaning the restaurant!!! This is not okay.

I really enjoy coming to Fujiyama for several reasons, so I will try to sum it up in this review. Fujiyama is a great place for a nice family outing in Salinas. There is plenty of parking in this lot and you have the option to sit in the hibachi or sushi section. The chefs will be sure to make you laugh with their amazing tricks like a steaming onion train and impressive broccoli tosses ( I caught mine). The portions are huge and you'll definitely have to take some leftovers home. They have really neat deals that I'm sure your pocket will love as well. I would really recommend this place if you're looking for a nice outing with friends or a casual date.

If you looking for a good place for sushi or a place to celebrate with your families, I highly recommend Fujiyama. I've been there ones a week for years now and still looking forward for my weekly dinner at Fujiyama.

Came on a Friday evening with a group of 11 to have the teppanyaki experience and celebrate some special occasions. Policy is that the entire party has to be present to be seated, with a 15 min grace period for your reservation time. The restaurant is sectioned off with a wall into a regular dinner and bar area on one side, and then down a narrow corridor, the teppanyaki side. The room we were in had zero decor and all the blinds were closed, so the ambiance was lacking. The soup was a tasty broth with mushroom slices & green onion. I waited & waited for salad that was supposed to come, but cooking started & I just took the miss to continue with the meal progression. The veggies were flavorful--a mix of zucchini, broccoli, onions, & mushrooms. The noodles & rice were lackluster--basically just the taste of soy, butter, & garlic. The fried rice only had a scant amount of eggs as an addition, no other mix-ins. The proteins were awesome, very well cooked & tasty. I tried the streak, filet, shrimp, & scallops. The 2 sauces were also delicious. Others in the party enjoyed some other kitchen & sushi items as well. Chef Paul was great!!! He was fun, funny, lively, personable, and did some different tricks versus the typical shows. He was invested in making sure we enjoyed our food & experience. We had very good customer service. Staff was attentive, helpful, & took photos. Our celebratory guests of honor all got balloon hats & vanilla ice cream with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, & a candle. Birthdays get sung to, and when the ice cream comes out, there's a moment of colored lights that flash to loud club music. Depending on your mood, this can either be received as fun or obnoxious. Overall, a good time and a lot of tasty food to be had.

Fujiyama is one of our favorite places!! They have amazing hibachi where they cook in front of you. Perfect for a celebration or birthday!! We also love their sushi or getting food to go. The sushi is always fresh. They now have an all you can eat sushi menu that has lots of options.

We were in the mood for sushi and decided to try a new spot. This place offers hibachi but we wanted sushi. Our server, Bryan, sat us and took our drink orders. We ordered Sapporo draft beer and he offered "large or small", where we went with large. Shortly after he brought out one large pitcher of beer and one large bottle of Sapporo. Needless to say we were very confused, and I think he was too. We ended up keeping the pitcher and sent the bottle back. We had a lot of questions about the rolls and asked for white tuna with the sashimi dinner. Bryan checked into and answered all our questions. We wern't impressed by the roll options on the menu and were struggling making a decision. We were craving a roll with tempura inside but a mix of fresh fish on top and surprisenly they didnt have much to offer with that combo like most places. We opted for the Crazy Friday, Hulk, and Angel rolls. The soup served with our meal was disgusting! Literally was the worst miso or whatever soup it was we've ever had. It tasted rotten and smelled like old seafood. We asked Bryan to please get it away because it smelled so bad. The rest of the food came out pretty quickly and thankfully tasted fresh. The Angel roll was the best out of the three rolls. The sashimi was fresh where the white tuna I wanted was delicious. We wern't super impressed with the Hulk or Crazy Friday roll. The Crazy Friday had more flavor and was decent, but the Hulk was boring and wouldn't order again. Eventhough we could tell our server was probably newer he was really nice, really tried and gave us good service, which we appreciated. The food was just ok, where I might come back again but wouldn't be excited about it if so.

Overpriced in my opinion. BEWARE!! The tip is added into your bill under service charge!!!

The place could use a good deep cleaning. . The table was greasy and around the hibachi area didn't look too clean either. Made me loose my appetite. I hadn't eaten all day then tried this place. Good diet plan but waste of hard earned money. Fried rice was skimpy on additives ie green onion and egg. Salmon was ok. Wasn't aware teriyaki sauce was smothered on top of it when it was too late. The meal was nothing to call home about. For this price I'll go to the store and cook at home.

    Kristina L.

The sushi was warm, and the rice had a weird sweet taste. The raw fish itself tasted off somehow, and the prices for a basic salmon and tuna roll were higher than better quality and larger portioned rolls I've had elsewhere. I got takeout, but the inside seemed pretty despite the noise. Two stars because the staff were very friendly and polite.

Hamachi Kama was this and didn't have much on it! It was very thin.

The portion sizes are huge, and the value for the price is hard to beat. I lived in Seattle for a large part of my life, where teriyaki is everywhere, and I've spent years trying to find something that comes close. This restaurant is about as close as I've found. The chicken is flavorful, the sauce is just right, and it really satisfies that Seattle-style teriyaki craving. It's also served with miso soup, that I generally don't eat. It's a bit salty for my taste. The restaurant is usually pretty busy, which is always a good sign, but it's also consistently clean and well maintained. The servers are friendly and welcoming every time I've been in. They're not overly attentive, but if you need something, it's easy enough to get their attention and they're happy to help. When I spoke to the person who took my order she was having a hard time hearing me and she said their phone is like that sometimes. I eventually got to a point where she said she could hear me. I ordered Some sunomono with crab and I asked for a "Kokoro Sashimi" with the "Salmon Sashimi" which I included what that is in the photos with this review. The young lady immediately asked me which type of Ca roll I'd like with it. I said it doesn't come with a Ca roll it comes with rice, salad and soup. Very insistently the young lady said we don't have a "Kokoro Sashimi" only a "combo" I said I'm looking at it right now on your website and it says you do have what I'm asking for. After a few minutes of back and forth and being put on hold she comes back with yes they do have that. I said Great!! With salmon please. She the. Said literally right after I said that "What kind of Sashimi did you want? I said SAlMON" please. She the repeated my order as "Tuna" sashimi and Again I corrected her and said SALMON please not Tuna I do not like Tuna. She said oh okay. She asked if wanted anything else I said no thank you and she again... says That was "Tuna?? Right??" ‍‍ I said no I would like Salmon!! I ran down to the restaurant from SVMH and grabbed my bag and paid for my meal I even tipped better than usual because it was ready fast. I stupidly didn't look in the tied off bag I was in a hurry. I get back the hospital to sit down and eat and..wait for it... it's TUNA!! I was upset but I politely called the restaurant and they told me that the clerk had double verified that I ordered "Tuna" I said well I should have checked my bad while I was there because I know I ordered Salmon and said it more than 3 times. I NEVER order tuna. She said well it wouldn't have mattered because you ordered Tuna so we wouldn't have given you a free Sashimi anyway. I told them I just spent $42 bucks for 9 pieces of tuna salad and cucumber salad on the side. I didn't even get my soup and I'm not asking for free food just what I ordered. Bottom line I won't be back they said next time remind them what happened they'll ad some soup or an extra salad. This was not a good experience especially since I don't normally treat myself to such an expensive lunch. Too bad Kokoro I have brought you tons of business over the years between friends, family gatherings etc.. I won't be back! FYI I didn't order online because I wanted double salad no rice and they option wasn't there online.

Sarku had the longest line of customers, which was honestly what gave me the vote of confidence to try it, but once I started eating, I realized that must have been because it was located in a prime location of the food court! For example, the salad was pulled straight out of a newly-opened plastic bag. It was some kind of spring mix. There was no washing, no tossing, and no dressing. It was just a handful of dry leaves placed on my paper tray. That wouldn't have been too terrible if everything else had flavor, but alas, that wasn't the case. We had to go back to the counter in search for packets of sauce...any sauce. The "teriyaki chicken" was "just chicken". There was minimal teriyaki flavor and pretty dry. The rice was cooked well though, so that was good. The dumplings were crispy and dry. In any case, my daughter and I were hungry and still ate most of it. Our favorite items were drinks from a juice cart down the hall though. Sorry, Sarku!
