This is my first time eating lunch at this restaurant and it was lackluster. We stood for a few minutes before someone sat us, but that wasn't a big issue. The inside of the restaurant is nice and clean. There is a large beautiful mural on one of the walls that really stands out. We started with a tempura mix appetizer. This is the first time I have had tempura veggies that were soggy. Not crunchy at all, which took away from the taste and experience. The dipping sauce also lacked flavor. For my dish, I ordered their salmon teriyaki and crunch roll lunch. It came with miso soup, salad, and rice. The miso soup was good. The salad dressing was delicious. The salmon was unfortunately overcooked and a bit stiff. The rice was dry too and not the typical sushi rice that I am used to, so that took away from the tastiness of the meal. The crunch roll was not my favorite. The sauce drizzled on top was spicy, but I did like it. There was not much of a crunch for a crunch roll. I unfortunately did not have a great experience with the food as some items were soggy or dry and they are not supposed to be. I stopped in to place a to go order for lunch while staying in the area. The inside decor is amazing; absolutely loved the artwork on the walls. However I was a bit shocked by the prices . . . it sounded like there was a discount for paying cash. I didn't ask since I didn't have any on me, so I'm unsure of the specifics of that. The crab used in the rolls isn't the shredded crab, it's lump crab and they didn't give any soy sauce, instead there was chili sauce provided which I didn't realize until I got to my destination. Glad I tried it, roll sizes were good (a lot of rice) and fish was fresh. Don't know that I would go back. read more

Sure, you have to drive out of your way but it's a great substitute! Food is great. For appetizers you can't go wrong with either the edamame, egg rolls, yakitori, or the gyoza dumplings. Chicken katsu is a great alternative for those who are looking for non-seafood items. Miso soup is good. They have combination meals! Sushi is great. Food is decently priced. Service is mid. Great food. Bad service. My husband was trying to make a pickup order for over 20 mins. They answered the phone and then left him on hold for another 10 mins. He got to the restaurant and was still on hold. He decided to walk in and place the order in person. Nobody was in the front at the greeting counter so he waited there another 5 mins. I told him I would call and to let me know if their phone even rings since he would be inside the restaurant. My call went through and he told me that the girl answered and then walked away from the phone. On my end, I heard her pick up and then hang the phone up right away. The service is very bad and rude. Tucked away in the Prunetree Shopping Center, this sushi spot has that hole in the wall feel. Seating is open and seat yourself. There's a small sushi bar to the right with a larger kitchen behind the bar. The average price of a roll is about $15.99 which is a bit expensive but there are some fun themes such as the 49ers roll or Raiders roll reflecting popular pro sports teams (go Raiders!) We order three rolls, the Spider-Man roll which is crab and the Dragon which is eel. I also got a Hangover roll which had some crispy fried bell peppers and onions on top. It hit the spot especially on a rainy Sunday. Service was a bit off but would not deter me from coming back. Seemed like they were busy with to go orders and eat in traffic. They are still located in the Prune Tree shopping center but have a bigger place to match their giant sushi rolls!! Each roll brought its own unique flavor. The spicy crunch roll, although not too spicy, was balanced with tempura and tuna. The dragon roll had just the right amount of unagi sauce. Beware of the raiders roll because it is spicy. The chef did an amazing job with presentation and our server was very cheerful and attentive. The price of the rolls may seem a little high but the rolls are HUGE! read more

We placed an order of over $325.00 and we asked for Sriracha and Liana stated they didn't have any and the she proceeded to say we charge 75 cents per pack. That is ridiculous they don't charge you extra when you eat in but they ding you when you order to go that is ridiculous. The customer service was bad because Liana was a bit rude and not the greatest customer service. I was recommended to this spot and I will not ever place an order at Ichiban I will drive the extra mile to Watsonville, Santa cruz, Salinas rather than me going to to a local place in Prunedale. To top it off they said it would be ready in 35 to 45 mins we gave them an extra 10 mins and when we arrived to pick it up our food it wasn't even ready and they made us wait an extra 30 mins. The plate came with the option or salad or soup. The salad is just a plate of lettuce and dressing. I went here around 12:30pm and it wasn't too busy. We were seated right away, and our server Marlene was super helpful and nice. The water came with a slice of lemon which I appreciate. I highly recommend this location because they also just remodeled so it's spacious inside. The food was delicious and the menu has a really good array of items. The serving size for the chicken donburi was super generous. It was cooked perfectly, and I liked the flavor of the grilled chicken and the sauce. I had leftovers! Well what can I say, first time trying this place and I was very impressed. The decorations leave a lot to be desired but I care more about food, presentation, customer service, and of course taste! Me and my wife decided to try out the softshell crab, shrimp tempura, and spicy edamame to start. The seafood was fresh and the tempura was super crispy. Plus it was still hot when we received it. I chose the Galbi ribs with a miso soup and a Cadillac roll. The miso had generous amounts of Tofu and there was no shortage on grilled onions with my short ribs. My wife decided on a golden California roll and was pleasantly impressed with both the presentation and the taste. The cherry on the top was a Japanese take on a Mexican favorite, the Japanese Chavela was super good, loved every dish and the cost was very reasonable. So I gave Ichiban a 4 star review back when I first ate here a couple times and I recently went back for dinner with my family. The reason I'm giving them 2 stars is because the price has gone up, and that wouldn't be a problem but the portions got smaller. I have sent many people here raving about it being my favorite sushi in the area and after this recent experience I don't think I could recommend them. Hope fully this was an off night but looking at other people's rolls it wasn't just our table. If you are going to raise your prices at least keep the food the same.
