My family and I visited Roy's on the Friday before Father's Day for a party of 10. One of our dad's favorite restaurants is Roy's so we wanted to go here to celebrate Father's Day with him. However, our visit fell short due to the service (or lack thereof) by our waiter. On multiple occasions, we had to ask the busboy to send our waiter over because we were either out of soda, to take our appetizer order, or to find out where our drinks were at once we placed the order. When asking how much longer for our drinks, we were told by our waiter 'I put the order in. It should probably be ready now.' He was not friendly and was not what I expected at all of a Pebble Beach restaurant. We come somewhat often as we only live 30 minutes down the road so this visit definitely fell short. With our tip already being included in the final price, I feel as though the effort from our waiter was as if his service to our table didn't really matter as he was getting his tip either way. The restaurant was not very busy either so it just seemed like a lack of effort. I would like to recognize the busboy as he was extremely attentive and always made sure to clear our table timely. I feel as though he would make a better waiter than the individual we had. The food was subpar for a restaurant of this caliber. My bento box with butterfish came out cold. My mom & sister-in-law ordered the bento box with salmon and both mentioned how there was a lack of flavor. Located in Spanish Bay at Pebble Beach, the views are incredible. You're looking out over the golf course with the ocean just beyond, and it feels upscale and peaceful. If you time it right, you can even catch the bagpiper at 5:30pm. I've been to other Roy's locations and always order the miso butterfish. This time, it was still good, but slightly off compared to what I'm used to. It had a faint fishiness that usually isn't there, so while I still enjoyed it, it didn't quite hit that usual top tier standard. We also ordered pasta for my son, which he devoured, and a steak that was solid and well prepared. Overall, the food was good, but not necessarily the highlight. The real standout was dessert. The chocolate lava cake was an absolute slam dunk. Just a heads up, it takes about 20 minutes to prepare, so ordering it midway through your meal is the move. Totally worth it. Service was excellent. Our waiter was polite and thoughtful, especially recommending we order the lava cake early, which saved us a long wait at the end. Parking is easy with plenty of self parking available, and after your meal you can walk around or head into 17 Mile Drive, which makes the whole outing feel like more than just dinner. Our dinner was absolutely incredible! We were so sad when the Roy's by us closed so any time we are near another one we have to stop in. This one is exceptionally beautiful and the ambiance is breathtaking and lovely. Our service was impeccable and the food was beyond delicious! Booking a Sunday brunch reservation in mid-September, we arrived a little early so we walked the back of the resort towards the beach and enjoyed the sights and sounds. We made a reservation here for a birthday dinner during our visit to Monterey, and it was remembered that we were celebrating a birthday until they gave us the birthday greeting card of the completely wrong person HAHA no harm no foul. The lobby was clean, airy and neat and facing the ocean with a great view. We saw that the glass window side seating were full and asked if we could seat at the lobby outdoor at the firepits. The restaurant told us that the lobby would gladly took care of us and cancelled our reservation without any charges. We had a good time drinking wine and eating chicken wings while seated at the firepit. The staff lit it up when it was cloudy and foggy. The red blend carafes was good and was only $54. The chicken wings were delicious! Freshly fried and very crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside. There's a free water station and the staff checked on us. We had a nice walk towards the shoreline when the sky cleared up a bit as the view of the pebble beach golf course was splendid. When I went I decided to order the lamb chop as well as the butter fish. The butter fish was some of the juiciest tender quite literally butte try fish I have ever had and the lamb was cooked to perfection with a light lime green sauce that paired well with the mash. Apparently they also have a location in Hawaii that my friend went to, and since he liked his meal there we decided to give this place a shot. The interior is definitely on the nicer/fancier side, and if you come around sunset the outside area of the restaurant is really nice to check out near the ocean. For my dishes, we decided to get the Panko Crusted Rack of Lamb along with the Misoyaki Butterfish. While these dishes were definitely on the pricey side for the portions, they were well-cooked with great flavor to them. I especially liked the lamb since it had a great crust on it and the mint gelee it came with was a pretty unique addition to the dish.
