I ordered delivery through DoorDash and had mixed results. The beef with broccoli lunch special was okay--nothing particularly memorable, but it was probably the best part of the order. Unfortunately, the chow mein was one of the worst I've had. It was mostly noodles with very little meat, and the meat that was included tasted old. I ended up throwing away at least half of it. Normally, I would have sent it back, but since it was a delivery order that wasn't practical. I had hoped to save some for leftovers, but the quality wasn't good enough to justify reheating. I also ordered two char siu baos, but after my experience with the rest of the meal, my expectations are pretty low. My biggest concern was the packaging. None of the food was sealed in any way. The chow mein container had popped open during transit and was handed to me already open. The other takeout container wasn't taped or sticker-sealed either, and the soup came in a plastic container with no seal at all. In my opinion, restaurants using delivery services should place tamper-evident stickers or tape on all containers. Food should not be arriving open or capable of popping open during delivery. The lack of sealing was concerning and did not inspire confidence. The soup was also only about half full, which made me wonder whether some had spilled during transit or if that was the intended portion size. Overall, the beef with broccoli was merely okay, the chow mein was very disappointing, and the packaging raised concerns. Tommy 's Wok is hard to find but worth the trouble if you feel like spending less than $100 for a meal. After a long walk along Scenic Drive we found Tommy's hidden away in a small alley. The Rainbow Seafood Chowder really hit the spot and warmed us up with jumbo prawns, scallops and real crab. A large order was only $12.75! This place was a real surprise to me. I followed directions and it took me to a little patio tucked away next to a bank - there was an open door to a kitchen and the patio had two plastic tables and chairs. A waitress noticed me quickly and came to ask if had placed an order or needed to. They have a big menu! The lunch specials are amazing deals - a main course, with chow mein, fried rice, and soup! All for less than $15?! In this economy?? So I ordered the cashew chicken and a starter of cheese puffs (wanton). The food was all flavorful, the chow mein had a deliciously satisfying chew, the cheese puffs had a tangy cream cheese filling. We are visiting the area and I n couldn't decide on what to eat. So I came onto Yelp and found this place. This is FRESH Chinese food at a reasonable price! My husband and I arrived about an hour before closing. The spot is small but there was plenty of tables open for us. We ordered veggie egg rolls - they were fresh inside and not soggy. Then we shared an order of broccoli beef and a bowl of rice...again it was fresh and not overly saturated with sauce and sodium. The weather was chilly so we were also served some tea. This is a hole in the wall place and great for carryout or if you dine in expect a casual decor. The interior is pretty small and not fancy at all. I got vegetable fried rice and it was good. If you are in Carmel and want something more reasonably priced than the fancy upscale restaurants that are typical of Carmel, Tommy's is a good choice. It isn't worth going to Carmel just for the food as there are comparable places in Monterey. Be aware street parking is very difficult but there is a small parking lot adjacent to Tommy's that looks more like an alley and if you can get a spot there grab it! read more

We were seated promptly and given menus to look over. I ordered the orange chicken combination plate which included a soup, chow main, fried rice, and the orange chicken for $10.95.... What a screaming deal for that amount of food. The food came out quickly and tasted good. The serving size was large and enough for two meals. Tommy's Wok was the least Carmel of all the restaurants I had dinner in during a recent three night stay and they served my favorite food of all three. Located down a passageway, not visible from the street, no signage to help the casual passerby, and a mysterious back door patio that seemed to be the takeout dock that l have absolutely no idea how the people access, I had no doubt I was in Carmel. Having been let down mightily by a Chef Pepe establishment the night before it was time for a change up--minimal decor, tight tables, lighting that verges on being a little too harsh and a bathroom located just outside the actual restaurant. We were there at peak time, put our name on the list, grabbed a menu and queued up for the 30-35 minute wait on a busy Saturday night. They have a few outdoor tables and we all were offered a chance to be seated at such. Most of us opted to wait it out, but a couple with a baby in a stroller was only too happy to jump on the opportunity. Watching through the windows was fascinating, guessing which tables would turn first, the two servers were constantly on the go, expertly maneuvering just out of the kitchen and cleared plates, and made quick work of reconfiguring tables and chairs to suit the next group. They acknowledged how busy it was and thanked us for waiting, a gesture always appreciated. We ordered the Veggie Egg Rolls, Walnut Prawns, Chicken Chow Mein, and Szechuan Chicken. Everything was so good. I had picked out the Szechuan Chicken because I love a spicy, saucy, crispy combo. When it arrived at the table, I could tell just by looking it was going to be all those things. A completely perfect ratio of chicken and batter, perfectly fried to maintain its crisp under the gooey glaze, and gentle spice kicked in at it hit my lips. The Chicken Chow Mein had some of the biggest pieces of chicken I've ever seen in a chow mein. By the time we were done, the scene had settled and the server engaged us in a nice chat as she cleared plates, a good indicator the place not only stands on business but on care of customer. read more
