    $9.25 Wonton Soup
    Chris M.

Thank you for being open! Hard to review this one because I only ate one item. Giving them a solid 4 stars. 4 stars Wonton soup. Wontons were decent and had some nice flavor. Veggies were good. Broth needs a kick of flavor.

    So oily and greasy

Cash and card accepted. Lucky Bamboo is located in a small plaza next to Dollar Tree and offers a lot of plaza parking. It is Covid ready with screens and hand sanitizer and doesn't allow seating. I called in my order of Kung Pao shrimp, wonton soup, chicken chow mein, and egg rolls for pick-up on a Saturday afternoon and it was ready in 20 min. I paid $49 after tax and tip. Unfortunately this place gave me a stomachache and I don't know if it was from all the oil and grease or if the shrimp was bad. I would not recommend this place and will not go back.

We were looking for a Chinese restaurant in Seaside. We hadn't gone to this Chinese restaurant at this Fremont Blvd location in many many years. We realized it's changed hands since then. As we made the turn into the driveway we saw "Lucky Bamboo" signs facing the street side and as we walked up towards the restaurant we saw the sign "Juicy Crab". We were a little confused thinking it might be all seafood but thought we'd take a chance (I live for seafood, my other half does not). We were the only ones there for lunch. The tables were covered with white paper and we thought uh-oh, meant for cracking shellfish and crab! The dining area is as big as any fast food restaurant and had a large tv screen. The menu was about half traditional Chinese and half seafood - a lot of variety, and an abundance of pictures on the walls of their dishes. Service was quick, attentive and courteous and both our lunches off the lunch special menu were heaped generously with traditional Chinese cuisine including a fresh salad and soup. We were both happy to bring leftovers home. I would definitely come back and order from their seafood menu as well as try the other items offered. The only complaint (hence the 4 stars) is the place may have an "identity crisis" - are they "Lucky Bamboo" and/or "Juicy Crab"? We almost turned around and it might do the same for people with an aversion to seafood. Despite the signage we now have a good "new" Chinese restaurant in Seaside!

This place has changed ownership in the last few years and they've done a great job with their dishes. Everything that we had was flavorful and competitively priced. They also offer dinner menu options for 2 & lunch specials.

We ordered a wide variety: pork potstickers, veggie egg rolls, crab rangoons, a small hot and sour soup, General Tso's chicken, orange chicken, chicken fried rice, beef chow mein, and honey wall chicken wings. Overall, the food was good for classic Chinese takeout, though the flavors were on the mild side. We're originally from South Louisiana where food is very well seasoned, so this may come down to personal taste (and California tending to have a lighter seasoning style). Even so, the seasoning could have been a little stronger across the board. Spice-wise, everything was extremely mild--our six-year-old could eat everything easily. Next time, I'd probably skip the hot and sour soup (I've had better elsewhere) and the fried rice. The rice had way too many peas and not enough carrots, and the ratio felt off. That said, this is still the best Chinese food we've had in Monterey by far. It doesn't even compare to the other places we've tried, and we'll definitely be ordering again--just knowing to ask for extra seasoning or spice.

A waitress noticed me quickly and came to ask if had placed an order or needed to. They have a big menu! The lunch specials are amazing deals - a main course, with chow mein, fried rice, and soup! All for less than $15?! In this economy?? So I ordered the cashew chicken and a starter of cheese puffs (wanton). The food was all flavorful, the chow mein had a deliciously satisfying chew, the cheese puffs had a tangy cream cheese filling. I would say there wasn't an abundance of chicken - but there was a lot of other food to make up for it. Oh and complimentary hot green tea! I will definitely come back again!

Unfortunately, the chow mein was one of the worst I've had. It was mostly noodles with very little meat, and the meat that was included tasted old. I ended up throwing away at least half of it. Normally, I would have sent it back, but since it was a delivery order that wasn't practical. I had hoped to save some for leftovers, but the quality wasn't good enough to justify reheating. I also ordered two char siu baos, but after my experience with the rest of the meal, my expectations are pretty low. My biggest concern was the packaging. None of the food was sealed in any way. The chow mein container had popped open during transit and was handed to me already open. The other takeout container wasn't taped or sticker-sealed either, and the soup came in a plastic container with no seal at all. In my opinion, restaurants using delivery services should place tamper-evident stickers or tape on all containers. Food should not be arriving open or capable of popping open during delivery. The lack of sealing was concerning and did not inspire confidence. The soup was also only about half full, which made me wonder whether some had spilled during transit or if that was the intended portion size. Overall, the beef with broccoli was merely okay, the chow mein was very disappointing, and the packaging raised concerns. Based on this experience, I do not plan to order from or visit this restaurant again.

I'm happy to say that now there is a decent asian place that we can drop by if we have a craving or if we are bringing overseas friends to the aquarium. Very clean interiors, you seat yourself and order at the counter. We had the beef noodle soup, veggie noodle soup, and the XLB. The beef noodle soup was mostly soy sauce based, not too salty, just the right amount of savoring. The meat was not beef shank, but a leaner cut with less connective tissue so don't expect any chewy tendons. And the noodles were cooked with just the right chew. XLB was only okay. Not terrible but not something I would order again. Overall decent, and for Monterey standards definitely a 4 out of 5. Obviously cannot compare to beef noodle shops in the south bay, but this will do if you are spending a day touring the local area and have the craving for noodle soup. No free water here by the way, you'll have to buy a bottle of water at the front counter so plan accordingly.

I was reared the son of a career Navy Chief who, with my mother, loved to travel in Asia. So we did, having lived in Hawaii, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand and California. Consequently, my taste buds appreciate authentic Asian dishes. And one of my most favorite is Wor Won Ton Soup. A basic chicken broth with a won ton or two floating around is Won Ton Soup. Or broth with scramble egg in is is Egg Drop Soup. But the king of such soups is the vegetable dense Wor Won Ton Soup, and it is hard to find really good versions of this. My radar is on continual search. The China Palace Restaurant in Novato, CA doe have outstanding Wor Won Ton. When we visit with friends, we always order the large, punch bowl sized version and eat every last drop. So...staying overnight in Monterey our internet search came up with Chef Lee's, and to our delight, their menu listed Wor Won Ton. Reviews for his restaurant were excellent, so we made a dinner reservation. Chef Lee's is definitely CHINESE! Rich decorations and decor along with a multi-paged menu. And there it was at $19.50. Not as large as a punch bowl, but sufficient for three servings. We also ordered pork pot stickers at $14.95. And talking with our server, Bao Y. found another of my favorites, BBQ pork chow mien Hong Kong style at $17.95. They list it as made with chicken, but did a special for us substituting pork for the chicken. Pots of hot tea and we were set. It all was great, food, service and atmosphere. Highly recommend you try it out. As to the War Won Ton: is was close, but was not as rich as in Novato or what I was looking for. Please do try it with this in mind and if you like it, join me in my search for the best.
