Wanted take-out Chinese food to eat back at cottage while watching the NBA Finals, so decided to go to China Delight Restaurant for carry-out. The prices were very reasonable, but the food was hit/miss. It is located in the Crossroads Carmel outdoor mall, and many of the stores here are high-end. We were staying less than a quarter mile away as the crow flies, but quite a bit more by road. There wasn't a great way to order on-line so decided to drive there and place our order directly and wait. I was surprised at how nice the interior dining room was...definitely should dine-in if possible. It wasn't particularly busy before 5, so waited the 15 minutes for the food to be prepared, and went our way. We ordered three things: Shrimp Fried Rice ($12.95) - it was OK. My wife and her mom liked it. Had decent size pieces of shrimp and wasn't too greasy. Kung Pao Chicken ($14.95) - we all agreed that this was a miss. Even though it didn't mention it as an ingredient for this dish in their menu, the dish was more than half zucchini as an ingredient, and the chicken wasn't plentiful. Went in for lunch before tasting @ Morgan Winery. Our server was nice, but very scattered. I noticed that they offered chicken salad as a side to their lunch specials, but it wasn't on the menu. So we asked if we could get a full order of chicken salad. " we can make but you'll have to wait a long time! We ran out of food and it will take a long time to cut up the chicken!" Huh? It's 1:15 and you're out of food? Should we leave? Then she says the chicken salad comes with lunch. Uh, okay, we'll order lunch, kung pao chicken and shrimp w/snow peas. So we both got chicken salads right away, each with maybe 3 bites of chicken, so it didn't take a long time. My husband asked for hot oil and chopsticks,which never came. I am a tourist. I usually don't write review, but I have let people know this little gem. It is a great value to eat at this restaurant. Food is perfect for Cantonese or Hong Kong people. Black bean beef, sweet and sour pork, Cantonese rice noodle exceeded our expectations. Egg roll is not the burrito style, but a regular Chinese style, so you know the chef cares about food quality. Chicken fried rice was a little bit blended but still very tasty. Comparing to Panda Express and other local American Chinese restaurants, this place easily beat them. The dinning area and restroom are clean. I wonder how they make money with such affordable meals, nice and clean interior, good quality of food as well as good service. closing out my Yelp '25, we were invited to join friends for dinner at this hidden gem of a restaurant. Initially hesitant after checking Yelp reviews but measuring our spirit to be curious and try new places. We enjoyed a family-style meal featuring king poa chicken, broccoli and shrimp, chow mein, and a veggie dish. We began with a portion of homemade potstickers, which were for me the star of the show. In my opinion, all the dishes were packed with flavor, cooked to perfection, served hot, and well-seasoned. After our meal, I couldn't really correlate how this place had received a few disappointing reviews. The overwhelming consensus among the table was that the service, tea, and food were all faultless. We're definitely adding this restaurant to our list of go-to local eateries. We had the chicken salad appetizer and it was fresh, crisp and delicious, especially the honey mustard dressing. We ordered the medium wor wonton soup for the two of us. If you're craving Chinese food in the area, I'd honestly skip this place. It might ruin your mood for it. The service is really bad, and you can kind of tell from how the owner responds to negative reviews on Google Maps. The owner (or waitress) was also pretty racist toward Chinese customers (and she is a Chinese herself too, so I don't get it). On top of that, she was very pushy about tips. my wife only eats no oil, no butter no seasoned steamed vegetables. her vegetables arrived in a distinctly yellow sauce. when we pointed out the order was supposed to be steamed the waitress quickly and a adamantly declared "you never said that" again and again. rather than fix the problem and make a customer happy we were forced to reorder her dish and pay for their mistake. We were starving and coming home late from CV and decided to try China Delight. The interior is pleasant and the service was friendly. We ordered Egg Rolls, Wontons in Spicy Peanut Sauce, Sautéed Green Beans, Salt Baked Shrimp and Mongolian Beef. Everything tasted great and I would order all of these dishes again. The Egg Rolls had a delicate crunch, the Wontons With Peanut Sauce were outstanding - a bit spicy and delicious. The Green Bean were still crispy crunchy with garlic and salt - I would like this seasoning on shrimp...Mongolian Beef was perfect tasting - lots of green onions which lend the classic dish it's flavoring - I like how the dish tastes but pushed the green onions aside. I would prefer regular onions to eat with this dish but that would change the delicious flavor profile so I'm happy to pick around the green onions. Salt Baked Shrimp has what looks like fried shrimp and is like Salt & Pepper Shrimp at other Chinese restaurants. There were a lot of chopped green onions in that dish as well. Again, I picked around the green onions but the dish tasted great. A few negatives - the lights lining the windows changed colors quickly and frequently - that was distracting. And the headlights of cars parking right in front of the restaurant were annoying - both things would be an easy fix. And one dish had a hint of something - it could be truffle oil which I don't like.... Is it our new favorite Chinese restaurant? No, but it comes very close. I originally had a disappointing experience here in 2021, and after a long time again in 2023 (I'm a local), and unfortunately, I had to go back recently with colleagues--definitely not by choice. Sadly (or maybe impressively?), it was just as bad years later. The food quality was poor, the service was slow and inattentive, and overall it felt like nothing had improved. I put my rating from 1-10 with 1 being terrible, 5 average and 10 being fantastic! The orange chicken (3) was breaded and served separately with its own sauce, but the chicken was dry and chewy and I would not recommend it. We placed a large order here for New Year's Day. The staff seemed a little frazzled but the food was ready in a reasonable amount of time (about 40 minutes) and was hot and delicious. Everyone enjoyed it. The beef with pea pods was especially good, as was the schechuan shrimp and the tasty sweet and sour pork. The tofu dish was a bit disappointing as the tofu was too big and didn't absorb the sauce. The portions were very generous and we enjoyed the included fortune cookies. I only found out that I was missing a wallet late part of the night. I tried to retrace my step and realized that the last time I used my wallet was during dinner in this resto. A beautiful interior but I always have problems with the staff. Our server today had two masks and a plastic shield on her face and our language problems persisted. We've been here many times but I think this is the last one. They do have a good lunch special my guest ordered the Mushu pork with the plum sauce on the side. In most instances when that is ordered the service makes it for you at the table however our server just brought the wrapped Mushu pork. My brother and friend decided to have lunch here before we headed out to Carmel-by-the-Sea. We ordered chow fun and pork dumplings. The chow fun was good, not too salty or oily, which I appreciated. The pork dumplings were more doughy than usual. I am used to eating dumplings where they melt in your mouth because the steamed dough is really soft. The meat inside was good. We dined outside because of Covid. There were about four or five tables outside, so it was spaced out. Make sure you turn on the heat lamps near you, if it's chilly! Our food was served in paper plates, which hey, I have no qualms about. The staff members were also very nice. Overall, I thought the food was okay. I would come back to try other dishes if I had a craving for Chinese food while shopping/hanging out at The Annex. Lots of parking at The Annex.
