This restaurant has been around since the early 80's. There's a photo of Clint Eastwood and the family who owns the restaurant. This is one of his favorite Thai restaurants and frequented this establishment probably when he was the mayor of Carmel. According to the owner, Clint's son stops by from time to time. The menu had many of the typical Thai dishes. I thought I'd try something different. I wanted to try more but with my shellfish allergy, I was limited. They all sounded delicious though with crab filling and shrimp. We ordered: THAI SPRING ROLLS - small bite-sized rolls filled with silver noodles. Cute and crispy. Not greasy is always a plus! SPINACH - a vegetable dish you can order with your choice of protein. We went with tofu. The dish had thin slices of fried tofu and big slices of mushroom. Well-balanced, well-season and not overcooked. You can enjoy each ingredient as they're meant to be. CURRY NOODLE - I wanted curry and also wanted a noodle dish. This combined both of what we were looking for. We ordered this with pork. This was soupier than what I imagined. I wish it were drier or a thicker broth, but it was still good. THAI NY STEAK - This was our favorite. The steak was cooked medium, sliced and served with a stir-fry of mixed veggies. The homemade Thai sauce is what makes this dish so special. It's tangy with a little spice. So good! Food came out fairly quickly. Service was wonderful. The owner was very sweet and personable. He made us feel like we were long time customers. When we're back in Monterey we'd like to come back and try more dishes! read more

I have been eating at this restaurant for years and it just occurred to me that I should leave a review because I want it to be successful for as long as possible! My daughter, a picky eater, asks to come here every time we come to town. When we lived here in Monterey, we'd come several times a month. Now that we live out of town, the owner still remembers us and is happy to see us every time we come in, even after a year. I am pretty sure that it's mostly just him, most of the time. Though I haven't tried tons of stuff off the menu, the Pad See Ew is always so good, and the chicken noodles (picky kid, remember?) and though we have tried the same dish in many other places, Siamese Bay is hands down the best. The decor is also just gorgeous & the stained glass windows are enchanting. It's located a little bit outside the busy downtown area but still quite easy to walk to from there and it's a beautiful stroll no matter which way you go. Don't miss out! read more

Siamese Bay is one of my favorite restaurants in Monterey! From the moment you walk in, the beautiful décor and unique atmosphere make you feel like you are actually in Thailand. It's warm, clean, and inviting. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. Some of my favorite dishes are the fresh rolls with peanut sauce, the Thai salads, and the mixed vegetables with peanut sauce. I love their Thai Tea! What truly sets this restaurant apart, though, is the exceptional hospitality. Sam, the owner, is very kind and always welcoming. He's always greeting guests with a smile and genuinely makes you feel appreciated. One Christmas Eve, or Christmas Day, (I can't remember which one) my family arrived late after the restaurant was already full. Even though they were busy and were closing soon, Sam welcomed us in. That kindness meant so much to us, and it's something I'll never forget. Between the outstanding food, authentic atmosphere, and incredible service, you won't be disappointed. Very attentive service, and friendly owner. My partner absolutely loved his green curry and raved about how tasty it was the whole dinner. My pad Thai was okay, not really what I expected. The sauce was way sweeter than I usually find for pad Thai, and the noodles were a little over cooked. Once I got past the initial shock to the tastebuds, it wasn't bad, though. The seating area has some really cool traditional decor, and some interesting and intricate carvings and paintings. I would've probably given it a 3 star if my partner hadn't loved his curry so much, so I'd say go for the curry, avoid the noodles. read more

The Pad Thai was definitely the highlight, perfectly cooked noodles coated in a rich, balanced sauce, and the beef was tender and flavorful. You really can't go wrong with it. The Panang Curry was also very enjoyable. The curry itself was creamy and full-bodied, and pairing it with rice really brought out the depth of flavor. I ordered it with chicken, which was good, but I do wish there had been a bit more of it. The Tom Kah Kai was incredibly rich and aromatic. Our All Time Favorite! My family has been coming here for over 30 years and it is, hands down, our favorite Thai restaurant in the Bay Area/Central coast. Thai places all generally have the same items, but the flavors are so much brighter and delicious here. The owner is so attentive and takes great care in what they do. This really is a gem. My favorites are the Tom Yum soup and Drunken Noodles. We tried the salad with grilled shrimp this time and I wish I could have taken some of the dressing home! Please try them out!!! read more

Today I used AI in my Tesla and asked where the best Pad Thai with fresh local seafood in Monterey was and it told me that Siamese Bay restaurant was absolutely incredible. My car was absolutely correct. The Pad Thai had shelled muscles, huge beautiful, delicious scallops, perfectly done shrimp and calamari. It was delicious. We had a great day at the Monterey Bay aquarium, which was totally packed, so I expected this place to have a huge wait, and we were seated immediately, and the food came out very quickly. If you are looking for the best authentic Thai food this is the place. We always order the food mildly spiced and the group can add the heat from the condiments. Just because the food is done mild for us it does not give up on flavor. The spice blends the chef uses are delightful. The service is wonderful with just the right amount of attention to the tables. The staff is pleasant. This is a perfect place to take a special date to or for an intimate gathering. It is quiet enough for an intimate conversation but not so quiet you think everyone is listening to you! The music is in the language of Thailand and you can easily feel you have left the USA! They will take reservations. If you don't have them there might be a table open for a walk in group so give it a try or phone ahead if you are heading to Monterey. When I walked in to Siamese Bay, I was immediately impressed by its quaint charm and the quietness of the restaurant. There was plenty of seating, and my party of 9 was seated immediately. Unfortunately, despite the charming ambiance, the food was a letdown. The portions were very small for the price. The curry only had a smear of curry on the plate, and we asked for more but they told us they were unable to give us more. We got the panang curry, pad thai, pad see ew, thai fried rice and tom yum soup but ended up having to order two of everything because the portions were so tiny. Our total was ~$250 and we were still hungry afterwards. Although the service was friendly and the restaurant itself was a vibe, I would not come back. read more

The Bangkok duck was the star of the meal for us. The skin was crispy and meat was juicy. Flavor was excellent and I'd definitely get this again. The drunken noodle was just ok for me, in terms of flavor, and the portion was a lot smaller than I'm used to. This was my least favorite. The Siamese Kai curry had huge pieces of tender chicken and the flavor was great. I didn't know what to expect from this as I haven't seen it at other Thai restaurants so it piqued our interest. I wouldn't mind ordering this again. Of course, we ordered a side of rice to go with it that was large enough to share between 4 people. Also ordered the eggplant dish, which was very tasty. I just love eggplant dishes. The Thai iced tea was not too sweet. There was a lot of ice but it's comparable to other restaurants in the Bay and for half the usual price I'm used to paying so it was a steal! The owner was really friendly. We came about an hour before closing and talked and lingered for a bit. I appreciated that he didn't rush us. From the 20+ year-old massive picture of the restaurateurs posing with Clint Eastwood in the entryway, you can see that this place is long past its glory days. Mediocre food, relatively high prices ($300 for party of 8). For example, curries do not include rice, which is an extra $2 charge. Tom yum soup was watery (relatively low amount of shrimp and mushrooms) and bland. Service was fine, but we were one of only two tables at the time. One member of our party got violently ill after the meal (likely due to the mussels). Not the worst restaurant but certainly not worth the trip. read more

Excellent food and service! Authentic decor and we ordered from the lunch menu, it was delicious. Very nice people too.

Service was great, along with the ambiance of the restaurant. The food has fallen short on flavor; I've been here a few times in the past and it was better then. They also used to offer a lunch buffet. The chicken had no flavor even eating it with the peanut sauce. The soup was heavy on the lemongrass flavor with the rice being a little too over cooked and soggy. I didn't have time to tell Sam the owner but I know he would want to get it fixed for me. I visited Siamese Bay Restaurant and ordered Pad Thai Noodles with scallops along with Thai Tea. Unfortunately, the Pad Thai was very sour, and the vegetables were wilted and not fresh, even showing signs of spoilage. The scallops didn't taste fresh either, which made the dish even more disappointing. I couldn't eat it at all. The Thai Tea was delicious but a bit too sweet for my taste. The service, however, was excellent, and the staff's humor was the only highlight of my visit. I'm actually glad I came alone and not with my family, as I could only drink the tea and leave the food almost untouched. I chose this restaurant based on reviews, so I'm leaving mine in return. If you're visiting for the first time with family, I strongly suggest ordering just one dish first--if it meets your expectations, continue ordering; if not, you'll save your money by trying another place. read more

The food and service here were both excellent. I stopped in during my trip to Monterey for dinner here and had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Sam, who was very friendly and attentive. Both the appetizer and main dish I ordered were perfectly cooked and very flavourful. I requested my main dish to be made spicy and they happily accommodated and delivered with the perfect level of spice. The portions were quite generous, including the meat portion of the dish. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is very nice - the decor and music is very reminiscent of my time in Thailand.
