I've been waiting to checking out Curry Journey! Was well worth the wait as all the food ordered was delicious! My main thing with Asian food in touristy Monterey Bay Area, is whether or not it is watered down for tourists, but luckily (!) everything tasted authentic with all the spices, herbs and flavors that you would find in the bigger cities. The new Asian restaurant cuisines are finally stepping up their game and staying true to the flavors! -Ordered quite a bit of dishes: -tom Kha soup, very flavorful! -Loved the Thai iced tea, bold and creamy flavor -chicken satay was yummy with the creamy peanut sauce and cucumber relish to balance the nutty flavors with the fresh veggies -Panang curry with side of steak bold, sweet flavor - sooo good, steak was perfectly grilled -Curry Journey curry: was my favorite. A mix of a Thai curry, with a sweet Japanese curry along with savory Chinese spices. The service was excellent! The owner and servers were attentive and friendly. The server, Angie, was really sweet, she gave my girls some cute stickers before we left. Also loved the Thai decor and ambience too. We ordered take out one evening. We had called ahead, but still had to wait 20 minutes more than the given time restaurant to get the order. The staff were nice about it. The yellow curry sauce was tasty, but the 4 bites of chicken provided in the dish were not to my liking. There were very few vegetables as well. I had to add my own vegetables to make it a satisfying meal. We ordered a second curry dish with noodles. The chicken thigh is provided with the skin on it. Again, there were not many ingredients in the sauce, but the sauce was good. And the food was not inexpensive. read more

There could never be too many Thai restaurants in the area so I am super excited to welcome this new place to the neighborhood. Curry Journey seems like an authentic Thai establishment - not Americanized and diluted to fit the milder palette - but instead focused on doing things the right way, to achieve the amazing depths of flavor that Thai food is known for. The ambience of this restaurant is relaxed and casual and the service is friendly and authentic. The food comes out, looking almost identical to what you see on the online menu, which is really saying something because the online menu looks extremely appetizing and picture perfect. And they can customize food options to fit any diet from vegan to the carnivore. Bravo to the chef's here. I hope they achieve great success, and persevere in the neighborhood. read more

We liked this new addition to the burgeoning Thai food scene in Monterey County. The interior design and decor is pretty inviting and relaxing. We had the all veg red curry with brown rice and the ono know suey. The vegetables were really fresh and I loved the rice. Both the curries were quite sweet imo, and we needed to balance it with a fair bit of vinegar. The food was certainly fresh and the service was okay ish. Prices are high everywhere nowadays so it's to be expected given the good portions and quality. read more

Been wanting to check this place out since I heard about their opening. Very unique ambiance, with custom made dining room chairs and tables. The staff were great and even the owner came by and checked on us. We ordered the Thai lemon red tea it was a little on the sweet side but I enjoyed it. The Tom Kha soup was amazing! We shared it and it felt like the portion was good enough for two. Next was the butter chicken. This one was my least favorite as it's not similar to Indian style. The meat was not chicken breast instead it was thighs or something similar, just didn't work well in my opinion. The yellow curry was really good, but spicy if you like spice. We also ordered the sticky mango rice. It came with steaming hot sticky rice and mango on top. It looked better on th menu then in real life'. Also wasn't a fan of this one. Still overall the food was really good, we will be returning to try other items on the menu. read more

Fantastic. I had the Panang Curry with chicken for lunch. The best curry I've had locally, and I've been to every restaurant on the Peninsula that serves curry dishes. Will go back with my family for dinner. Caveat: I was lucky and got the spot right in front of the restaurant, but parking could be a challenge, particularly on weekend nights or holidays. read more

My two friends and I went today for dinner after visiting the aquarium. The food was delicious and the service was great, the two people who served us were so nice and friendly! The restaurant itself is clean and the decorations are fun to look at. We got the Green and yellow curry, the butter chicken and the mango sticky rice. This spot on Lighthouse Ave used to be a mediocre BBQ joint. Now it's an open, inviting Thai restaurant with outstanding food, friendly service and reasonable prices. Try this new spot out. It's really great! We were greeted by our server who more than patiently took us through the menu. The focus, not surprisingly, is curry. We went for 2 standards and 2 specialties of the house. The standards were the yellow curry (heads up, the only vegetarian curry offering) with grilled vegetables, and the panang curry with duck. Both were solidly delicious. The two specialities we tried were the Curry Journey with grilled salmon and the Massaman curry pot pie with beef cheeks. Both were outstanding. The pot pie is not what you might expect at a Thai restaurant, but what a treat. Tucked under a buttery puff pastry is a very tasty beef curry with potatoes and chick peas and beef cheeks. It's hearty without being heavy. We also sampled the Thai rolls (one order of shrimp one of tofu) that were also excellent. They come with a perfect peanut sauce that has just a bit of heat. Curry Journey offers a nice selection of Thai drinks. Alas, no alcohol. That would be a nice, but not necessary, addition. read more

Curry Journey is off to a GREAT start! Super excited about their opening. It did NOT disappoint from beginning to end. The food is super delicious and good sized portions. It's presented to you beautifully. The service is excellent. Nui - the owner -and family are incredibly accommodating. They did a super job of uplifting the space. Curry Journey's food feels very authentic. It has a unique way of presenting and offering their food choices. I adored my yellow curry with veggies and tofu. I can't tolerate too much heat so this was a perfect dish for me. My husband enjoyed the green curry with pork, a bit spicier. The "Curry Journey " signature dish looked wonderful for those that can accommodate more spice. We look forward to returning and trying other things. Thank you Curry Journey for a fun yummy lunch. Food was great, Penang and yellow curry were just right. The brown rice was really high-quality and the vegetables were clearly fresh. The base sauces were flavorful but not hot enough for my taste. They do offer chili sauce on the side, though. The butter chicken has a nice anise flavor to it and is very different than a typical Indian butter chicken, but my kids loved it! The server was very sweet, but did seem like maybe she could've used some help to keep up, given there were four or five different groups in the restaurant at the time we were there. They did not have any alcohol for sale when we visited and their fountain machine was also not yet commissioned, but had just opened and likely waiting on liquor licensure. So happy to have a new place to eat on Lighthouse! My husband, son and I all tried something different...a green curry with beef, a yellow curry with chicken and the massaman pot pie. Everything was delicious... the pot pie stole the show (just know it takes a little bit longer than the other dishes to come out)...the crispy pastry on the outside and the creamy sweet curry on the inside were the perfect combination! Visit during the soft opening. I tried the Thai milk tea, tom kha, butter chicken, and coco snowball. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and seemed genuinely interested in if my party and I were enjoying our food. The tom kha was probably my favorite bite, utterly delicious. read more

Everything about this place was amazing! The food was fantastic: I ordered the Curry Journey with Tomkatsu and I used my finger to get the last bit of sauce. The golden tea was lightly sweetened and decaf which is impossible to find. The ambiance was casual but nice and the servers were friendly and helpful. I wish I could give more stars! read more

I just had Thai Golden tea and Yellow Curry with Chicken. I had asked for chicken balls, but they were out. The Thai Golden Tea was excellent, pleasantly sweetened with honey. The Yellow Curry was mildly spiced, just enough to enjoy the curry. The menu is a bit limited to mostly curries, but worth while. read more
