My friends and I were in Carmel for the weekend and had a craving for Thai food so tried Baan Thai. We got takeout so I can't comment on the ambiance, but the take out was packaged nicely. What we tried: - chicken pad se ew: I love pad se ew, but this one was just ok. Noodles were cooked well, but it missing some flavor. - pork pad thai: a lot of great flavors going on here. The noodles were great, but I wish it came with peanuts. - pumpkin curry: made with kabocha pumpkin, the mild was a bit spicy for me. Also there were some hard bits of the kabocha in the curry so unfortunate not my favorite thing to eat. Note: you have to order rice on the side as it does not come with rice - pineapple fried rice: the fried rice was packed full of flavor and my favorite thing of the 4 things tried. Khao Soi 5/5: This item was listed on a board near the entrance. I did not see this on the menu. Khao Soi is a curry noodle dish that's usually served with chicken, pickled veges, and fried noodles as a topping. I love the curry is this dish as it's not too salty but it packed with flavor. The pickles help cut through the richness and the fried noodles at texture. Just be careful slurping as you might get your clothes dirty. I hope they will continue to serve this dish! Spicy Noodles 5/5: I ordered this thinking it sounded like Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) - my go-to Thai dish. This did not disappoint! We got this with Mild heat and it was perfect. The spiciness slowly builds as you continue to eat and the basil was aromatic. Duck Curry 5/5: I'm coming back for this. The curry is so rich and flavorful. The duck is also very tender. I highly recommend this dish if you're looking to try a new curry. Pineapple Fried Rice 4/5: The rice is covered in turmeric and there's pineapple chunks and raisins sprinkled throughout. Avoid if you want good thai food and good customer service. The worst pad thai I've had. Nothing was good thai food. Also, their tactics are shady as hell. They charged me 18% gratitude without informing me for 3 adults and 2 kids and straight up lied that it's on their menu that they charge 18% gratitude for 5 people. She was shady as hell cause when I went up to pay, told me to just sign and kept my receipt. It was after I went back and sat down and realized it was a lot higher for 4 dishes. I went back up, grab my receipt and noticed that I was charged gratitude and that I also left an additional tip. Wtf, she could've told me but I know why she didn't. She's desperate because her restaurant sucks so she has to resort to shady tactics to cheat customers to stay in business. When I ordered beef noodles and said I wanted no spice at all because it was for the kids. I didn't appreciate their lack of honesty. When it was brought out, it was obvious there was a spicy oil layer in the soup. So delish! I have lived in Carmel for 4 years and my friend brought me there. It's his favorite and I now know why. Everything was great. I have had Pad See Ew (my go to dish) at every other Thai place in town and have liked one. This is the place, their tofu app delight was yummy with a very light broth and the Thai ice tea was refreshing. But the mango sticky rice was perfection. We shared one but needed two. We've lived here for 5 years now and have tried many Thai restaurants but now just order from Baan Thai when they're open. They are, hands down, the best Thai food option in the area. We get so many different things from them but our favorite order would probably include Massaman Curry, Penang Curry, brown rice, Pad See Ew, Rad Nar, or... the simple Pad Thai noodle if we have a Thai newbie in the group. We like to add on Thai Tea with light ice and mango sticky rice, when available. It's always delicious!
