Let me save you some time... if you're looking for Thai food anywhere in the Monterey area, but especially in Seaside, just go to Baan Thai. We've lived here for 5 years now and have tried many Thai restaurants but now just order from Baan Thai when they're open. They are, hands down, the best Thai food option in the area. We get so many different things from them but our favorite order would probably include Massaman Curry, Penang Curry, brown rice, Pad See Ew, Rad Nar, or... the simple Pad Thai noodle if we have a Thai newbie in the group. We like to add on Thai Tea with light ice and mango sticky rice, when available. It's always delicious! We %110 recommend Baan Thai (behind Seaside 7-11) but do check for their open hours as they are closed midday. Definitely see you there! read more

We went there on our last night visiting Monterey. First the mundane, exceptional clean, bright and well furnished. A bit hidden from the main street but not difficult to find. Now for the review. first time trying their food. i had never heard of them. ordered a few thai classics... pad thai, won ton soup, thai fried rice and crunchy tofu -- for take out; $59.67. food is definitely americanized and not authentic thai recipes or tastes. i couldn't tell if they use msg. flavor was pretty bland, overly sweet and greasy (probably mostly frozen, then reheated ingredients). really wanted some good, fresh thai food tonight. very disappointed that i didn't find it here. too bad. i was told to look to lighthouse ave, monterey. staff was very nice. the two stars' rating is a reflection of the quality of the take-out food i ordered. i wouldn't recommend this place based on what they provided to me. too bad. read more

I ordered pickup using their website, but the website doesn't tell you when the order will be ready so I had to call and ask. I thought the restaurant was a little hard to find. You can't see it from the parking lot; I parked in front of the rock climbing gym and walked into the little alley behind it that was hiding more shops. Amazing service! Delicious, hot, fresh food! Very accommodating for our kids. We loved this place! Our favorite dishes were the coconut soup and roasted duck curry(although we asked for zero spice since our kids can't handle heat and it was still a bit spicy-great for the adults but note that this can't be made with no spice). This is a great Thai place that I've been going to for several years. I'd go more often if I lived a little closer, but it's great to get take-out here and bring it over to Lynn's for drinks. went in for the first time close to their afternoon closing time and was served promptly! Got my goods to go and ordered the satay and chicken pad thai I wish i took pics but i was that hungry-- it was really good and is up there with other thai food I've had! I accidentally left my bag and the ladies working kindly chased me down to bring me my bag before I left Will be coming back as it does give a small family outing inside the restaurant where you take your kid after they did some sports event or something. Ingredients were fresh and hot. Speed was quick. As for taste, both my pad thai and pad see ew were bland. It lacked salt/soy sauce/fish sauce. It didn't taste like anything just bland rice noodles. Pad thai and Pad see ew are 2 lifelines of Thai food. Can't screw that up. read more

We just had lunch today at Baan Thai. It was an absolutely delightful experience. Our young Thai server was arrived at our table within minutes, anxious to take our order. We usually select the soup, but decided on the fresh green salad with peanut sauce dressing. What a delicious treat! I ordered the Pad Thai with extra crushed peanuts. The plate was overflowing with Pad Thai noodles, chicken, sliced onions, vegetables and mild spices. My companion chose green curry with chicken and rice. Both dishes were abundant, flavorful, absolutely delicious. While not a fancy place, Baan Thai is our favorite Thai restaurant in the Seaside/Monterey area. Ordered carry out and the food tasted worse than last time. The Pad Thai was plain and lacked the little extras like peanuts and bean sprouts. I ordered Thai veggie fried rice with tofu but when I got home discovered I had been given plain steamed rice with no veggies or tofu. There are better options in Monterey but I was in Seaside and didn't want to drive out of the way; I should have. Won't be coming back. read more

The food was absolutely phenomenal. We had panaeng, Tom kha kai, and the Thai fried rice. The portions were very generous, so nobody risked leaving hungry. The staff was very friendly, and helpful in explaining dishes to my daughter. It's a small place, and clearly popular with locals, so if you're a larger group or coming at a busy time, it's definitely worth making reservations. Ever since moving back to Monterey I've been looking for Thai food. Other have been a little bland in their curry or watery. But Baan Thai curry is the best in town! Wonderful service from the lovely Thai ladies who run this restaurant. Extensive menu for a restaurant on the smaller side, but they easily accommodated and seated our family of 15 with 2 high chairs no less. Pay close attention to their printed "Heat" scale for chili intensity and don't think you can muscle your way to the higher ratings; you will be crying instead of enjoying the yummy flavors. Pad Thai for the happy kids and all manner of curries, noodles or stir fry for the adults. Spring roll is probably a pass because of mushy veggie insides but the potstickers were pretty good. Pricing is very reasonable and portions are hearty. This is a return visit for some of us and the rest of us would come back again. read more

My first time trying this place. Went for lunch today. Service and ambiance were very good and though it was empty when I came in, there was a steady flow of customers coming in. Has about 15 tables and it is clean and nicely decorated. I had the spicy basil lunch plate with rice, medium spicy. It was good, lots of chicken (could have been a tad bit less chewy) and spices were on point. Looking around me, portions are quite generous. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star is because the lunch special comes with soup or salad and i chose hot and sour soup. It was watered down and served barely luke warm. I couldn't even drink it. Sending it back would not have changed the flavor profile. It would have just been heating up flavorless watered down soup. I would still come back and recommend giving the restaurant a try. Everyone deserves a second chance! read more

We came here on the recommendation of a friend. I had Pad Thai and he had Red Curry with shrimp. We both had soup. The soup smelled bad. Like feet? Or just some stink I wanted far away me while I was trying to eat. He said his food wasn't very hot (temperature) my Pad Thai was ok, noodles, bean sprouts some chicken and a few green onions, no peanuts- Nothing to write home about. Like others said I didn't eat much and didn't want to take it with me. I offered it to my husband and he didn't want it either. My husband is a Thai food nut- he didn't think it was very good. I have eaten here over the years and can't imagine why I've never given it a rating! My husband and I went by there for dinner last night and wow! We didn't get a lot but what we did get was outstanding. We started off with the potstickers (chicken and veggie) are so good (I'm finicky) and the yellow curry was sooo damn delicious! My husband had the spicy beef noodles and I had a bite (spicy!) and it was delicious, as well. He was very happy to have my leftovers for lunch! My overall feeling after having come here would best be described as disappointed. I was more hopeful in seeing that there were a lot of positive reviews for this place. The service was fine, but the food was not what I expected. It was food 100% catered towards an uncultured, Western palate. Let's say, a palate that just started venturing into more "exotic" cuisines. That's what it looked and tasted like. There was absolutely no authenticity except besides the staff in the restaurant. I normally wouldn't make such a fuss, but when I'm paying at least $10 or more for each dish, I want it to at least be good. The closest to normal tasting dish I ordered would probably be the red curry. That's not hard to mess up. The pad Thai was honestly atrocious. The noodles had an off taste and the seasoning was very artificial. I also asked if the papaya salad could possibly be made "Lao style," however, it was anything but that. Not good at all. Wouldn't recommend nor do I think I would like the way it's normally made here, either. The papaya wasn't fresh. Most of the food is 3.5 flavor but 4 stars overall due to quality (seemed higher than many others) and quantity (not generous but appropriate) Odd they charge for white rice, it doesn't come with the curry dishes - I've never seen a Thai place charge for white rice unless you ask for extra. Granted only $1.50 but still, rice costs pennies, literally, and all other places provide a portion with curry dishes. Roasted Duck Curry : 4 - very good flavor and decent amount of duck. Beef Salad : 3.5 - light flavor with slight sweetness. could have used more lettuce and a bit more flavor; overall enjoyable Spicy Noodle w/ beef : 3.5 - light sauce with not as much flavor as I've had on other places; overall enjoyable Wonton Soup : 3.5 - would have liked more veggies, not just bok choy and the broth was very light. decent flavor but could use more oomph. The reason its not a 3 is because they provided a good quantity of wontons and meat... with a better bone broth and more diverse veggies this could be a 4.5 or even 5. read more

We ordered the pot sticker appetizer and chicken satay. Both were delicious, especially the sauces that came with. Ea.of us ordered level 4 spice for our dishes.they have a spice scale of 1-5. and it delivered. Didn't care for the tom yum soup , but Tom Kha was delicious.
