The tofu pad thai was chef's kiss--perfect spice level and super fresh. I ordered extra peanuts and they delivered (big win because not everyone does!). Everything was flavorful and exactly what I needed. Definitely hit the spot!

I have been here several times over the years and they have never disappointed on service or quality!!! The owner recent remodeled the interior all on his own. The new bench says are very comfortable. I keep coming back for the roasted duck soup!! It's hearty broth is complimented by the tender and tasty pieces of duck. So much duck for $22. But there are many things to recommend. The crab cheese wontons are unique from others I've had in that you can actually see lumps of crab meat. They're also a little spicy but perfectly complimented by the plum sauce. The pad see ew is the perfect balance of soy saltiness and sweetness. The broccoli was cooked perfectly, still had chew, but still very green and not mushy at all. The egg rolls were crispy and a little dense but still very tasty. The owner, MJ is happy to serve you each time you come and will remember you. He greets most his guests with a personal touch that's hard to find these days. Attentive and kind, the lot of them. Heard from several locals that this is their favorite place too while I was out and about in Monterey. The first time I came here, I had never had Thai food and now that I know the cuisine much better, I know they're doing something right for sure.

First--I have to give this restaurant so much love. We walked in with a group of 9 and the owner sat us down and made room for us like it was no big deal (it was decently packed at the time and our friends had a group of 15 that made reservations ahead of time). Food was delicious but more impressively--it came out hot, tasty, and SUPER quick. Not sure who the chef is but mad props! When I came home and checked my receipts, I saw a discrepancy. I emailed the owner who responded within a few hours. Said he would make things right. LOVE this owner! You've earned 9 customers for life, plus we will forever recommend this restaurant to all of our friends and family!

Visited this restaurant for lunch, and the service was exceptional. We had to go almost at the closing time, but they were kind enough to cook and serve us. The food was amazing and everyone in our group loved it. The ambiance of the place is very calm with soothing music. As in every other place in California, the parking was difficult near this restaurant; we had to look for some street parking a few streets down.

I had been looking forward to trying this Thai food place for quite a while, and was always near it when they were closed as it's next to my favorite breakfast spot on Munras Ave. When a group of us decided to celebrate my husband's retirement with Thai food, I thought well here is my chance. We arrived and were greeted right away, and we told the staff there would be five of us. We were seated in the back near the rear entrance. Our waitress was cleaning the table next to us after we sat down but she preferred to not answer any questions about the menu until she was finished cleaning. She arrived a few minutes later and took our drink order and we asked for Tai Teas and regular hot tea. I asked for coconut milk in mine and was accommodated. The menu is extensive and so many interesting foods to choose from. I did get my questions about the menu answered finally. I opted for a choice I often try at new Thai restaurants which is Pad Thai as every place seems to prepare it a little differently. Here they will make it as spicy as you desire so to be safe I requested just a little spice per the staff's recommendation. My husband ordered the BBQ chicken, and it comes with small corn and other vegetables. My friend ordered a Spring Roll appetizer to share, and the vegetables with rice. The Spring Rolls were quite tasty and the peanut sauce was very flavorful. Our orders came in a timely fashion, all except for my husband's chicken which took a few extra minutes. The Pad Thai was made with rice noodles that reminded me of spaghetti. The tofu was cold but flavorful. The spice level was good. Overall very filling but not remarkable. BBQ chicken was very good and extremely tender, my husband said he enjoyed it very much. My friend did not remark about her vegetable dish but she did enjoy the Spring Rolls. Now for the less positives our waitress kept disappearing, and the dishes piled up so we had to ask another waitress to clear the table We asked for To Go boxes and La, our waitress brought two small ones which were not adequate so I asked for larger ones. To be fare they are generous with the portions. La returned and I looked up to see larger boxes held out in front of me while she was speaking to customers at another table which seemed odd but I reached across my friend to take them from the waitress. There were sea gulls outside the back door and they kept flying into the glass window and bumping it which was very strange indeed. Overall I was intrigued enough to return and hope to try some other dishes; they have a lunch menu I would like to check out sometime. I think I'll ask to sit nearer the front away from the back door to avoid the sea gulls outside. The tables are small and the plates are large so if you have more than four people at your table it can get crowded. The prices are reasonable and despite the inconsistent service I would like to come try this place again. Hope to be able to give a higher rating next time.

Krua Thai has always been accommodating and the staff is very friendly! It's unfortunate that some of the other reviews haven't had the same experience. Other than that, the food is always rich with deep flavors. The yellow and pumpkin curries are delicious. The restaurant is clean and I've never had a long wait to be sat. Will definitely return in the future!

I cannot emphasize enough how amazing the Yum Khoong shrimp salad is! It has the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and sour enhanced with fresh herbs. I love it so much, we had to get it again during our short stay in Monterey. The pad Thai was also descent in flavor and size. The noodles are thinner than we were used to so it lost the chewiness pretty quickly. My son still loved it tho. Minus one star for the Tom yum noodle soup which was super bland and lacked all the authentic Thai spices I would expect. I ended up picking out the shrimp and tossing it into the shrimp salad sauce. Maybe trying the soup without the noodles would've been a better idea. Overall, we enjoyed our meal.

Parking was only mildly challenging, as a space opened up after only a single lap around the block. Inside here, you'll find a busy place with a few tables and individual bar-style (partitioned!) paired seating along the walls adjacent to the kitchen in the middle part of the restaurant. Order up at the self-serve order kiosks, tap in your table/counter number, and they bring out your order in a couple of minutes. We had six of us in our party, and most of us kept it simple by ordering the default Tonkatsu Ramen with different customizable options. Most all of the ingredients in this order were on point - The Chasu Pork Belly was tender, thick and delicious, ramen noodles nothing special, but generally stil on point, as were the bamboo shoots. However, the co-star/centerpiece of the Tonkatsu Ramen other than the Chasu Pork slab should be the broth, but sadly the broth was far far TOO salty which overpowered the other flavors in the broth. Chasu Pork 4.8/5, Tonkatsu Ramen 3.1/5. Service was good as everyone was hustling hard in the kitchen, along with attentive bussers/waitstaff to quickly turn tables. They take good care in wiping down the tables here. If I return, I'll just get the Paitan Ramen like I did in years past, as that seemed less salty. Then again the Paitan soup base begins with the same chicken+pork soup base as the Tonkatsu Ramen. I hope Toribashi will step back up to their former glory.

It didn't look like it died down which is awesome for this business. I believe I waited 20-30 minutes in line before I reached the display case. There were so many delicious things to choose from, it was a challenge to decide! I opted for a croissant sandwich, a blue corn cookie, and some sweet treats for the beach. I also ordered a seasonal latte, I believe it was cherry chocolate with oat milk less sweet. There's a nice outdoor seating area with many tables in chairs. Since the weather was nice we decided to stop and eat for a bit. The ambience was very nice and calm. The food was delicious and their house made pickles were fantastic. I'd definitely come back here if I were in the area.

The salmon croissant was alright, had a really nice flaky crust but the filling tasted kinda gamey , would've been nice to have another component to balance it out. We ordered these items: Fish and Chips - highly recommended! They're fresh and have that classic flavor you're craving. We saw a lot of folks getting this one. Not a surprise! You get 4 hearty pieces, hot and crisp. The "chips" had a bit of batter and were crisp on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. Perfect! Comes with a tiny scoop of coleslaw. Sablefish with butter - the person at the counter said it just came in today. It was super fresh and cooked just perfectly. Sablefish isn't super fatty nor dry, it's just perfect. Veggies were fresh and cooked throughly with just a touch of crunch. Rice pilaf is quite flavorful and delicious, just a touch greasy, but in a good way! Sand Dabs - DH noticed this special after we already ordered, but he couldn't resist. Cost was based on weight + $8 for cooking. They were lightly battered and absolutely delicious. Clam Chowder (smallest size) - surprisingly good too. They must've improved their recipe since the last time we ate here. It's very thick and hearty with delicious, sweet, small pieces of clam. Overall, a fun place for a fresh, casual meal. You'll need to bus your own table after eating. Bathrooms are outside in the back. It's not as crowded as the fancier restaurants. Kids loved the food. So we tried the calamari steak sandwich but ordered it on grilled sourdough rather than the French roll It is normally served on. Came with sweet potato fries as an option. Sandwich was good but sweet potato fries were kind of rubbery. The salad was good with plenty of chicken in it and very tasty honey mustard dressing. Menu had a lot of options including some delicious looking humongous layer cakes for Il dolce. Our serve was friendly and accommodating on the bread change for the sandwich, prices were reasonable and it looked like they offer a full bar menu. The Good: * Located away from the wharf and Cannery Row, so you don't have to deal with all the nonsense those two come with. * Private parking lot, as well as street parking. * Prices aren't too shabby considering the location. * Service was a bit odd, but friendly enough. * Their house-made linguini was very good and worth the extra $6 upgrade. * Veggies were cooked and seasoned perfectly. * Beers on tap and in bottles, as well as wine. * I liked the flavor from the oak grill. The Meh: * Hard to complain about free bread, but just watch me. The bread was stale and not fresh at all. Even the pats of butter weren't enough to save it. * The Diablo sauce was all gas and no brakes. It needed a little sweetness and acid to complement the spice. * Carissa's penne pasta was waaayyyyyy overcooked. And so was her salmon. The Ugly: * WTF is this second menu they have? I shit you not, the poor waiter had to recite what must have been over twenty off-menu items. It was mildly amusing at first, but then you realize you're supposed to actually absorb all of this? It's got to be some kind of inside joke with the staff. No way it's real. * The clam chowder was watery and not thick at all. Not to mention, the flavor just wasn't good, and there weren't many clams. * My tuna steak was just not good. It didn't taste very fresh and had an off texture. I thought for sure I was going to get food poisoning from it, but luckily that didn't happen. Conclusion: I hate shitting on an institution like this, but it is what it is. It appears their better days are behind them, as there's probably a good reason they lost their Michelin recommendation.
