If it were in the bayarea, it would have been my monthly haunt. *Ambiance : is not spectacular, it's well maintained and clean though. They have a lot of plastic and plush toys behind the counter and some shockingly pink artificial orchids on each table top. *Food: this is where I went weak in my knees after sampling the spread in front of me. Such simple yet mind bogglingly delicious food! If it were not for the large amount of grease across the dishes, I would have rated this as my favorite Chinese restaurant in the bayarea. We got chicken fried rice, chicken chow mein, Mongolian chicken and chicken with green beans. Fried rice was moist and umami rich. The noodles had a thick delicious sauce coating them. Woooow. Third time I go to this restaurant! It's a little mom and pop shop. Absolutely amazing. I always get the dinner special that comes with 2 entrees and pork fried rice. I think there are other options too. The sisters who answer the phone are so friendly on the phone and in person. They had patience with me and my questions. Please try this place. Stopped in for lunch while passing through, what a pleasant dining experience. A small eatery, with a handful of tables and booths. We were kindly greeted walking in and grabbed a booth by the front. The place was busy the afternoon of our visit. After enjoying the food, its no wonder why it was packed. Excellent Chinese food here, with friendly home style service. A traditional Chinese menu with a wide selection of options. After giving the menu a perusal, we started with the Crab Meat wontons, eight to an order they were very good and a nice beginning to an excellent meal. I went for the Salt & Pepper Fish spicy, what an exceptional meal. So light, fresh and tasty, tender fried fish in a light crunchy batter. I have had this dish at other restaurants and the preparation here is top notch. Some of the best I've had. My partner went for the Chicken and Snow peas, again it was an excellent meal. A hearty serving, with nicely prepared chicken pieces and fresh snow peas. She said it was great too. We had always gone to the Mexican place next to Fortune Garden, but this time we decided to go for Chinese. And what a surprise! We got some of the best Chinese food we've ever had in the US. The Wor Wan Tan Soup was so flavorful. Normally I have to doctor it up; this needed only a little hot chili to spice it up. The meat dishes were all excellent. And the service was delightful. Actual hidden gem for sure the food is so good which is unexpected in that area. The worker was also really nice and accommodating and all their stuff is made to order. The food is really good here! First time here and it was such a good experience. The portions are a big size too. For 2 people it came up to 30 dollars and that included a drink. We got the lunch specials so that may have been why it was so affordable. The waitress was very kind as well, the only thing I must say is I wish she would have checked on us. She didn't check on us at all so we had to get up several times to ask for things. But she was kind wasn't rude at all. She even gave my little ones balloons so they can play. This is the second time we have been to the restaurant. While, we definitely enjoyed it and considered it very well priced and very convenient for our travels and the quantities are excellent. But our impression on the flavors trip were more in the OK region than in the great region. We would still definitely recommend it, but five stars is a bit high. It's not hard to see why Fortune Garden has 5 stars! Not only is the food delicious but the service/ownership is above and beyond! We stopped by Soledad on our way to SF to charge our car. I ordered a beef chow mein hong style and a lunch special orange chicken, both fantastic! It came with a small hot and sour soup, fried wontons, and fortune cookies of course. The server was so gracious to my 1 year old and gave him a couple of toys to take home! Since I ordered to go, another server offered to walk my items to my car since I was carrying my baby. I thanked them but told them not to worry, plus my car was parked at the other end of the shopping center, but she insisted! This has surpassed my expectations a hundred times over. Every time we stop here we now get a list of staples that we eat on for days. Hot and sour soup, fried rice, Szechuan beef, bbq pork chow mein, almond or cashew chicken, general tso's shrimp and maybe some lemon chicken. Everything is so good there. Service is super fast and everyone there is so friendly. The restaurant is always clean and they have been adding to the tables to make them feel more inviting. I wish we lived closer so we could go more often. We came here for the first time when we were passing by Soledad from Vegas couple weeks ago. It's one of the best chinese restaurant I ever eaten. The service was beyond excellent. The mom and the daughter were very friendly. We had to order more to go to bring back to the hotel because it was that good!! I ordered the egg rolls and the combo and whole plate of food is so soggy and oily. The sides of the plate were leaking oil and into the bag. The chicken had a weird texture like a rubber. Chicken in Black Bean Sauce: Velvety chicken in a savory sauce with bell peppers and onions. Hot and sour soup: Hot and comforting. Even the small sized portion can feed four people. My standards for Chinese restaurants come from many years spent living in New York City. On a road trip I basically chance upon this wonderful restaurant. Fantastic food and very friendly service. My go-to dishes, my sort of "test", are wonton soup and Kung pao chicken. Fortune Garden made both of these a 10/10. If you're ever around there, GO! They also gave me wonderful soft sesame cookies as I left that were out of this world. Really nice staff and a great place to go for the finest Chinese food I've stumbled on in years.
