I took my friend here to celebrate her birthday, and it definitely turned into a memorable experience. The restaurant has a mix of Mexican food, sushi. The lighting is very dim, and the décor is a blend of Mexican folklore and international flags, which gave it a bit of a sports bar and club vibe as well. The service was excellent from start to finish. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. One of the best surprises was finding out that Thursdays is $5 margaritas! I tried both the blackberry and mango margaritas, and they were both delicious, but the blackberry was my favorite. Great flavor and sufficient alcohol. For our appetizer, we ordered the asada fries. They were just average. The fries, cheese, and toppings were tasty, but the asada itself was a bit tough. For my meal, I had the Machito taco and the Taco Gobernador. Both were flavorful, and the Machito taco was especially unique and delicious. Since we were celebrating a birthday, the staff surprised my friend with a slice of cake and a candle, which was a thoughtful touch. What really caught us off guard, though, was that they also brought her a complimentary shot served in a very provocatively shaped glass. We definitely were not expecting that. It was funny, but worth mentioning for anyone planning to bring kids or looking for a more family friendly experience. This is definitely more of an adult oriented atmosphere. As the afternoon went on, a DJ started setting up, and you could tell the restaurant was transitioning into more of a club scene. Overall, we had a great time. Must like loud club music. We couldn't hear each other talk. Our order took forever, it took 45 minutes to get the roll I ordered which fell apart. My son's hamburger came 20 minutes after I got my roll. He ordered it medium rare and it came well done and barley warm. Our server didn't speak English, he took our order and never checked on us. The service here is terrible. We kept having to flag down multiple servers for water, napkins and our food, wasabi and soy sauce and a small dish for the soy sauce, which wasn't included with my roll, the roll was very mediocre. We've never had a bad experience here. The food is delicious. The drinks are tasty and strong. The decor is beautiful you can look around the restaurant and see something new each visit. The service is fairly quick as well, the times we've gone. I would say what knocks 2 stars down is, not having a kids menu or kids cups. You're a restaurant in Salinas, a town where almost everyone has a kid. My kids are young, so small plastic cups with a lid would be better than the large glass cups that are provided. Also having a variety of options on the kids menu. Maybe rice and chicken, burger and fries, grilled fish with rice or fries, a kids "loaded" quesadilla and it's just an option of 1 meat or even a kids burrito. The food was great. It didn't take long to arrive. We went on a Sunday early evening and it was pretty quiet but toward the end of our dinner more people started to arrive. There are some options for food but it feels more like a place to get drink and a small bite to eat rather than actual dinner. The decor is beautiful and I love the black and red. I would definitely come again for drinks and a quick bite rather than for dinner. Took my son and granddaughter to lunch today. The environment is pleasing and the mural is beautiful! Supposedly one of the owners took our order, who had a challenge figuring out how to use the hand held order taker, not a big deal. Ordered one of the infamous sushi selections, a nopal taco and beef flautas from the kid's menu. We were excited to eat there, since the videos on IG made all the food look delicious! It took a while to get our order, considering we were the first ones there, people started trickling in about 15 minutes after. When the flautas from the kid"s menu arrived, we discovered it had salsa verde on the tacos. Those were sent back and shortly after more flautas were made without hot sauce. My son's sushi order finally came about 10 minutes AFTER the rest of the order, which took longer than expected , to include the food that was sent back. When his order was finally brought to the table, it was the wrong order! So they took it back and luckily, not too long after, brought the correct order. At that time, we ordered a refill of horchata and gave some to my 4 1/2 year old granddaughter. She immediately spit it out and said it tasted weird, we just thought she was exaggerating. When my son took a drink, he also spit it out immediately because IT HAD ALCOHOL!!!! I could not believe it and took a sip myself to confirm because it was unimaginable. It sure did have alcohol and it was strong! I immediately notified the waitress and asked to speak with the owner. I was livid! I explained the situation, she just kept repeating how sorry she was. I was so beyond upset that I had given my granddaughter alcohol and the establishment had given my son alcohol.....he has been sober for 2 years! I don't believe she understood the seriousness of this situation. I asked for the check and had to wait 10 minutes to be charged! Obviously I left no tip and have no intention of returning.
