Anyone who says they don't like Tyler as a bartender...should just not go to the Kings Den. Stay home. This place is a hidden gem.

Bartending service is great. However if you like to do karaoke. Unless you're a regular. Chances for singing are shitty.

Having visited from old to new, I can say it's been the bar in Salinas I've had the most fun at.

It was cheap and had what appeared to be a ruff crowd (predominantly Hispanic with some gang affiliation); however, I never had any issues there (I'm a nerdy white guy). Most importantly, Jaime's had great bartenders who were personable and genuinely just fun people who made your night more enjoyable, a rare trait. The single purpose of this review is to address the new owner of what I believe is called Jesse's, who I am confident was bartending the last and final time I went to that bar. As I previously stated, I am a white male. I have never had any issues in that bar, which has always been a hangout for actual gangsters, last-call chasers, and what some may call "seedy fellows." It's always been the last bar to stay open in South Salinas. What do you expect? Concerning the reason, I'll never enter this bar again. After not frequenting the bar for months, I went in and sat at the bar one night. I had 3 Coors lights prior to entering the establishment but was in no way intoxicated, belligerent, or rude. I posted up at the bar and just waited for the bartender. Then I continued to wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait for about 15 minutes while the bartender was passing right by me over and over to serve a half-full bar who all had drinks and then just chill out against the bar-back area (I decided just to wait and see how long it would take for her even to address the fact a new person was sitting at the bar, which was almost impressive; also there was another bartender at the other side of the bar). I've worked in restaurants and bars my entire life (literally, I washed dishes at the restaurant my dad managed when I was ten). I've always had a gigantic respect and patience for those working in the service industry, especially restaurants. This woman bartending (who I am sure is the owner, probably named Jesse) was purposely ignoring me. I then waved her down and asked for a bottled Coors light, which she then charged me $10.00 for (there are no menus, so prices just come off the top of the head). I politely paid even though I knew she was gouging me. A few minutes later, I asked a group of random people how much their bottled Negro Modelos were. $7 bucks. Anyone who knows anything knows that negro models arent cheaper than Coors lights. She was overcharging me because I didn't belong there. it didn't matter how polite I was, and I was extra polite, she was charging me extra cause I was white. Period.

Growers has a good setup--the bar is very lively and full, but it's not the first thing you see when you walk in, as it's off to the side. We had a nice booth, complete with real flower in a glass, and were served promptly by a pleasant lady. She helped me choose my entree, and was attentive and accommodating throughout our meal. I had the chicken Marsala, which is the best I've ever had (and I often order it in restaurants.). My husband had the bone-in pork chop. We had crème brûlée for dessert. Everything was tasty and very well prepared. The restaurant has a very pleasant feel, with lots of dark wood and nice furniture. If I lived nearby I'd come often.

Server was attentive. Full bar serving wine, beer, and cocktails. Located in old town Salinas -- I was told this spot is one of Salinas' oldest establishments occupying the same building from when it was founded in 1940. Hope they make it to 100 years! Also, my friend said this spot is known for their prime rib. I'll have to make it in one day to try for myself.
