My only 5 star on everything is the General Historic Bar. What can I say I may be a lil biased because I have gotten to know Dimitri (owner) and Hamada ( Bartender) personally but I had only gotten to know them because I come to this bar frequently and they have become family to me that's what great people that are. The food is delicious! The Chicken wings with spice sriracha bomb! the smash burger and fries bomb! Hummus with pita bread bomb! And the Mediterranean fries with your choice of meat bomb, bomb!! Not only was the food on par but Hamada as bartender making drinks on point you can't go wrong with the General Historic Bar if your looking for a cool environment with chill vibes and great food and drinks this is the place. I've tried to restrain myself from writing a review because it may come off like I'm biased and plus I wanted to keep Gate keep this place as my bar and didn't want anyone to know but this place deserves it's flowers! First, the food was really good. I got the Mediterranean Duo, which was a big portion. The meat (lamb & chicken) were very tender. Everything was flavorful. Second, service was great. Small, cozy bar inside a Mediterranean restaurant in a strip mall. I didn't have high expectations. The drinks were good. My bartender was super friendly and was really attentive. The place was empty on a midweek day at about 3pm. I ordered the masala fries from the restaurant next door. They weren't very good. The fries weren't crisp, they were soggy as soon as I dug in. There was a generous amount of meat on top of the fries, but the flavor wasn't quite right. All I could taste was cumin and salt. Really wasn't good bar food. Overall this is a great place to relax and have a drink at the end of the day. I'd have to try more items off the menu to properly rate the food. read more

Another great trip to The General Sports Bar in Marina. We of course ordered the wings (1/2 Buffalo and 1/2 Honey Sriracha). This trip we met Dimitri, the owner. Such a treat to chat with him. He treated us to a portion of the Vegan Delight (aka Mujadara) - basically rice, lentils, caramelized onions nicely spiced and served with crispy Syrian dill pickles and Tzatziki. Delicious with so much flavor! I wish I had a picture, but we dug right in. So nice to see Hamada again too. He is truly a creative mixologist. Marty loved his smoked Old Fashioned and the citrus, spicy vodka drink with a Chamoy and Tajin rim I tried was delicious. Live music on Wednesday starting at 7 and happy hour every day from 4-6. Definitely worth a trip to Marina! We had the best visit! Love all the military history in this spot. Connected to Dametra Fresh in Marina and has a nice speakeasy sort of feel. read more

My first thought was "they only have 30 reviews" - I mean, c'mon, you could just have your family all write a review! But after eating here my thought is "HOW on earth are there ONLY 30 reviews of this place!?" Truly - this is such a gem - how is there not a line out the door. So - first of all - this name was confusing as The General Historic bar is attached to Dametra Fresh Mediterranean. So we searched for a bit and realized we needed to enter Dametra. You place your order, pay for it and can then sit there or go into The General Historic bar where you can order cocktails. The food was plentiful AND delicious. I was stuffed but I couldn't stop my hand from repeatedly stuffing more food into my belly. Truly - I was happily miserable rolling myself out of there, all the while justifying my eating that much because we walked (more like waddled after) home. We ordered a Chicken Schwarma and a Greek Salad with Gyro meat. If you order these, you will understand why I couldn't stop eating. In fact, I'm embarrassed to admit, even though the portions were huge, we finished the leftovers that evening - we couldn't stop eating them! The Greek Salad was delicious without any dressing, but the dressing that came with it was outstanding. Came here after class last night and I wasn't expecting much but was completely blown away. The decor: so amazing! Lots of military items that are original and vintage. Goes very well with the marina area. It's not overall crowded which I like. The drinks: I asked the bartender if he could make us a michelada even though it wasn't on the menu and he made the best one ever! It tasted like it had fresh herbs in it and was the right amount of spicy! The price: prices are very reasonable here. About 8-12 bucks a drink! Great place overall! This bar is really fun! Local. And has happy hours during the week. There's not that many places around Marina to go out. So it's always fun when there's a new one added to the venues of bars. I like the vibe in this bar and the decorations. There's plenty of televisions around and it's a sports bar and they weren't playing sports. I honestly really don't care. Because I'm not a big sports fan. The bartender was really nice and accommodating. When you check in on yelp you get a glass of champagne. And they had Alvarado Street on tap. Which is always a plus for me if I don't have to drive downtown to get Alvarado Street beer. The food came from the Greek restaurant in front. And honestly, it wasn't that great. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great. The hummus was yummy and the yogurt cucumber sauce was good. But the falafel's were really dry. And the dolmas were dry as well. Wife and I came in here for the first time Saturday late afternoon. It wasn't the easiest to find until we parked and physically got out of the car looking for the signage. We walked in and what a great space. You feel like the Mediterranean and America had a lot e child. Small area but what character. They had a plethora of whiskeys and the 2 gentleman running the place were the nicest as can be. Their drinks are legit. Old school and classic. Whiskey Sour with the egg white, Old Fashions with the proper cube and cherry. Everything was great. Their food was all homemade and outstanding. I spend some time in the Middle East and was introduced to proper food. Hummus, Pita, Schwarma, etc.. This place made everything from scratch and it showed. Can't wait to return. There are only 2 things this place needs (Besides more of me, lol) It needs an acoustic player in the corner (guitar or other instrument) and 2, The place closes way too early. ( pm was too early for the weekend. 8 pm on Sunday. There has to be a reason for the early closing but we were ready to return Sunday eve but they closed before we could get there. read more

This is such a fun, relaxing place to enjoy drinks and Mediterranean snacks (or a full meal). They have lots of great local beer, hard cider and wine options, and a huge list of cocktails. The Happy Hour prices from 3-7 PM Mon-Thurs and all day on Sundays are amazing, and they always seem to be having some type of drink special. Awesome place!!! We stopped here last night for dinner and a drink. We were happy to see fresh clean food to eat.We ordered our food and headed into there sports bar genius idea. Asked the bartender if he could put in the warriors game,which he did. Great selection of beer and ciders. I noticed the owner sitting at the table next to us, I said great place. He stood up introduced himself told us the back story of the restaurant and how it was a family affair. With about 5 family restaurants in the area, including his his cousins place in Santa Cruz mosaic. He then went back behind the bar and poured us 2 shots and thanked us for coming in. SO good! We ate there last night, although it was totally not what we were expecting we tried it out. It's all Greek food, and the staff may have a little hard time understanding you, but they are so accommodating, and the food was delicious. They messed up on what we ordered a little bit, but once we brought it to their attention they fixed it right away no problem. We love to eat in the bar in the back!
