We are so lucky to have this GEM in Hampstead. The food is really good and I cannot think of a family we know who doesn't think so, too. Sushi Gem - Sushi Bars Near Me - Hampstead, North Carolina

My husband and I really enjoyed our meal at Sushi gem. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, and he ordered the Tiger Cry steak. Everything was flavorful and delicious. The sweet and sour chicken had thick, juicy pieces of chicken with a light batter, so it tasted like much more meat than breading. The sauce was also very good. The Tiger Cry steak was tender and well seasoned. We chose a milder spice level because we were a little timid, but next time we would probably turn it up a notch. They are very generous with the peppers and vegetables, so be prepared--you definitely have to enjoy your veggies! My only suggestion would be to include a little more rice with the entrées to better balance the generous portions of meat, sauce, and peppers. Otherwise, I recommend ordering an extra side of rice. Service was sweet kind and attentive. Nice place for a daytime date or even to eat alone. Clean place and spacious seating. Overall, everything was fresh, tender, and flavorful. We enjoyed our food and would definitely return. read more

This place is pretty solid. They have a nice variety of rolls to choose from, which is really great. The service is very quick also. Every time we go there, we always receive top tier service from the staff. They have a nice base that is located centrally in the restaurant. All of our rolls were delicious and the soups and amazing! Sometime I even get 2 soups, a miso and a hot and sour! Salads always have a sharp crunch and fresh ingredients. We will definitely come back. read more

Met a friend for dinner. I'm not a fan of sushi, but the menu had plenty of items to choose from! I ordered the hot and spicy soup and the sweet and sour chicken. I did not love the soup, just not to my taste. Nothing wrong with it, I just didn't want a salad. For my main course I got the sweet and sour chicken which was delicious! Besides the portion being enormous, the flavors were different than the same dish at a Chinese restaurant. The service is very good and the entire staff super friendly! read more

It's our go to for Asian food in Hampstead! Best spicy Thai basil! Jalapeño chicken is delicious!!!

The food is very good I would give that a 4 1/2 But they have cut back substantially on the amount of food you get ! I think it may have been better to raise their meals a dollar and keep the amount of food the same! Very disappointed read more

It has been awhile since I stopped in here due to a really bad experience last time The physical menu was very strange and I had no idea that it even opened up until my server told me. They don't offer any lunch sushi specials and I thought the prices were kinda high so I opted for the chicken lettuce wraps which were pretty good. They give you alot so I could only eat a small portion. I also had some hot and sour soup which was very good. Server was nice and decor was decorated beautifully for Christmas read more

Love this place! Sushi is great and the curry is delicious too! Service is usually very good!

When we went the sushi was fresh, with a lot to choose from. The regular food is good too.

The restaurant parking lot is a hassle. The restaurant itself was nice and clean. Typical Chinese restaurant decor. The food is mediocre at best. It's ok but nothing to write home about. The service was decent and we had a good dinner. read more

Went here specifically to try their beef pho and it was delicious!!! I'm so obsessed!! Im a little confused though because in the description on their menu it says spicy beef broth, and the broth is not spicy by any means? But either way it was great! Wish there was more than 3 pieces off beef other than meatballs as well. read more

The sushi is tasty but very small, and therefore, extremely overpriced. Paying $13 for what probably equals less than one whole shrimp, tempura flakes, and rice is bananas. The hostess was also very condescending when she overheard me mention my disapproval of our total... as if I was out of my budget and shouldn't have been there vs. just mind blown at the cost for what we received. read more

Food is always great quick and great service as well very attentive staff even while busy

I am so disappointed and disgusted at the owners behavior at Sushi Gem. There was a new system installed for ordering the food and the kind young hostess was trying to put the information in. The owner was belittling this young girl and making horrible faces causing her look nervous and scared. Watching this interaction was heart wrenching and the hostess just took the abuse. She was trying to explain what she did so it could be fixed and he just pushed her aside and was so rude. With no mind he had customers watching. My conscience could not sit by and not say something to him. I verbalized that I felt he was being rude and she was trying to learn and he needed to do a better job and quit with the ridicule. He looked at me with rage and argued with me not acknowledging his behavior at all and ending with a loud voice "he was doing his job". I told him to apologize to her and that young lady said "it's ok". How horrible for this kid trying to learn her job, taking the abuse and basically apologizing for his lack of character. Shame on you owner of Shushi Gem , after 10 years of supporting your restaurant I will not be back. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Our waitress was great and always kept our glasses full. I had the miso soup. It was good and flavorful. The sushi was excellent and they have lots to choose from. We had the California roll, tuna roll, bagel roll and the sweet Mac roll. They were all very flavorful and fresh tasting. It did seem they have some maintenance issues in the restaurant. The booth I sat in was ripped and the paint all the wall had some damage. The bar area was nice though and they had a beautiful fish tank. read more

Love the Sushi here. The Gem roll is my favorite but dynamite is also good. Their house lo mein is amazing. It has steak, chicken and shrimp and is huge. I would recommend it. It is expensive. Usually quiet and low lighting. read more

We live very close to Sushi Gem and often get them when we just do not want to cook at home. Our normal meal includes a kids chicken lo mein (last for at least two meals), an order of chicken lettuce wraps, hot and sour soup, and a kung pao chicken. All of which are delicious. The sizes are pretty large, however, I will say the prices are a little high. Their sushi is also pretty tasty. We have had a large variety and never been disappointed. We have only ate inside once, we normally get it to go. The inside is pretty spacious with a nice bar and they a cute fish tank that my daughter always loves to gawk at. read more

I've tried them 5-6 times. It's not knock your socks off food or prices but it's not the worst. The lady that was tending bar the last time needed a lot of improvement so I've not been seated at the bar again. Food is good/average and the people have been nice. Definitely try a tempura sweet potato roll!! Pass on their spicy tuna roll. read more

The food was great. Came with my family after my oldest daughter's track meet in the area. I got the Thai Basil chicken, husband got teriyaki shrimp stir fry, my mother in law got the general tso's chicken, my oldest got the Mongolian beef, my youngest got a sushi and sashimi platter, and our little niece got beef Lomein. My husband's only complaint was the portion size being a little small. The only other issue with this restaurant is the ladies bathroom. I understand it's a bathroom, but there was a terrible odor in there from the time we got there until we left. I think they have some kind if plumbing issues there, because I feel like this was the case when I was there 5 years ago, too, and it's still a similar odor in there. read more

Take out from Sushi Gem was wonderful! Some of the best House LoMein that I've had although at $17.95 it is pricey(got 3 meals out of it). The sesame chicken and egg rolls were also very good. We have eaten in the restaurant and the ambience is good and low-key. Service inside has always worked out very well-attentive staff! read more

Okay, wow!!! Can I give 10 stars? Get the Lemon Salmon sushi! I didn't expect to find such a delicious and friendly-staffed sushi and Asian cuisine place in a Hampstead strip mall. I drive by here ALL THE TIME and we finally went in for an early dinner. I was blown away by the attention to our table by our sweet server and the food was fresh and taste was on point. We only saw one part of the restaurant but the inside was a lot larger than what it portrays on the outside. Can't wait to come back. read more

Nice ambiance, my family loved the Korean ribs but they have sadly, left the menu! I would tag along with them for sushi but then I quickly realized that HARRIS TEETER sushi is SO much FRESHER and overall wayyy better tasting! So for kung pow or something to go, this is a good fast food option! We prefer Nikki's or Bento in Wilmington. If you don't want to drive, try it, you might love it!? #Harristeetersushi read more

I've always wanted to go here to eat and today I spent time in area so I figured I'd go check it out. It's in the lowes food shopping center so you think place would not be too special but inside I was pleasantly surprised. When you walk in there's booths and a very nice bar area..on other side is sushi bar and tables with beautiful decor and a huge fish tank !! It's so much bigger inside than it looks from parking lot! I ordered pork dumplings fried they came out light and crispy and great taste!! My entree was the woman in love roll! It had such light and great flavor. Spicy tuna, avacado and cucumber inside with albacore and spicy Mayo with scallion on top.. pieces were really big and rice was perfect..sushi can be ruined by few things and one is the cooking of the rice!! The price wasn't bad I think for my specialty roll it was 14 dumplings were 6.25 for 6 really good dumplings!! I really enjoyed my meal and I will be back!! read more

Still on the quest to support local businesses during quarantine. Look no further than Sushi Gem for all your sushi needs. I applaud sushi gem for the large variety of rolls they offer. You may have a hard time deciding which rolls to order, but you will not be disappointed in any of them! Great service even during these hard times. Highly recommend! read more

Sushi Gem - a tray of sushi and chopsticks - Sushi Bars Near Me - Hampstead, North Carolina

After doing pick up several times over this past Summer, we've decided to find another Thai place - There were at least 2/3 orders that were completely wrong - they gave us someone else's order - then every time I've gotten my favorite PadSeeEw, the recipe was a complete miss - too much fish sauce, or they added green bell peppers, or they gave me the run around that the chefs couldn't do just broccoli... it was a real pain and for what they charge, I decided to bring my business to Jacksonville from Holly Ridge to get good Thai. read more

I love this place!! I have heard about it for years and finally made a stop with my family. There were 9 of us and we were greeted with smiles and had great service throughout. We ordered the sushi boat with 8 different types of sushi rolls. Some one ordered the hibachi steak and it was so tender it fell apart in your mouth. I would highly recommend stopping here. read more

This is a really good sushi place in the area! Visited here recently for lunch and tried the Dynamite roll and Salmon Lemon roll... both were very yummy. The Dynamite was a tempura roll and the salmon lemon tasted very fresh. Our server was so nice and helpful. They have a really good homemade spicy Mayo that is recommended with the rolls! We also tried the Pad Thai with chicken and a kids shrimp lo mein. The Pad Thai was really delicious! The kids lo mein was also tasty and well received :) Looking forward to trying more of the their menu in the future! read more
