Don't underestimate this small bar in a strip mall. They were decorated to the nines for Christmas when we visited which made the atmosphere so inviting. There are few tables, but lots of room at the bar. They are known for their wings - highly recommend getting these as an app or main. Man does this place know how to decorate for holidays!! From entrance outside to walking in to hanging ornaments to the holiday igloo you can sit, sip adult beverages and have incredible meals in! I had seen it on Facebook and decided if i got close by I would stop and check it out! It did not disappoint! Absolutely gorgeous! My waitresses were Ruby and Charity and they kept coming out to my igloo to check on me.. lot of seating at the bar and tables throughout but I wanted a unique experience and I got it! They are set up in an outdoor hallway between businesses and are first come first serve.. it was lunch on a Thursday so not too crowded and it was a beautiful day out. I've been wanting to try this place out FOREVER so for my birthday dinner I dragged my family there to give it a try. My son wanted to eat outside because it was a beautiful day, not too hot, but the flies were trying to hang out with us so that wasn't fun. To drink I had the Passion Play Punch which I actually couldn't drink at all due to the alcohol content. I love a fruity cocktail as much as the next girl but this one tasted like just rum with a splash of something yellow, and mint muddled in the glass, which now that I think of it wasn't mentioned in the description. Maybe our server didn't give me what I ordered? Either way, the moo fries redeemed the drink because they were heavenly! Well seasoned and I don't know what the moo sauce was but it made the fries perfection. I saw all the yelp reviews for this place and knew we needed to try it out. Easy to find with plenty of parking in a strip mall, the inside was much smaller than anticipated but decorated very nicely...loved the vibe of the artwork and framed TVs, very nice. We found seats immediately, it was a late lunch on Sunday. They weren't super busy yet but I assume they would be later with the beer specials they had going on for football. Our waitress took our drink order, brought them back. Took our food order and that's about it. Runners brought our food to the table and we had to flag her down for refills. The table next to us had an awesome waitress that actually explained the beer specials and menu to them and came back to check on them. I really hope they split tips because the service received was the worst part (not bad, just not great.) The food ranged from 3-4 stars. The burgers were solid but the smackin cheese wasn't as amazing as I thought it'd be and my friend who got the Bang Bang Skillet found the sauce over powering. We went for the first time over Christmas because of the beautiful decorations- we were wowed by how festive everything looked but we were also impressed with the food and service! Cowfin bar and grill is a new addition to Surf City area! It's a really great upgrade compared to the restaurant that used to be in its space. The vibes are much better than they were previously. The service was decent for it being the first week it was open & a holiday weekend. I think it will only get faster with the staff learning more each shift. The menu ranges from apps, salads, burgers, wings, sandwiches, entrees, seafood. There's really something for everyone. My husband and I started off with hot honey & buffalo wings. The wings were good, the flavors were good. However some of the wings looked a bit bloody towards the bone.. this concerned me but my husband assured me that some wings just appear that way. I also wish the wings came accompanied with crudités! If you're picky with meat on bones like I am- maybe choose another app. For our food I got the firecracker wrap & he had the BBQ burger. The firecracker wrap was good, just felt like it could have more added to it. The burger was excellent- we both love a good smash burger! Overall, Surf City really needed something like this added to the area to keep up with the ever growing community. Had a surprisingly awesome first impression when I walked in to Cowfin! The place feels like a Nashville spot with a little beach here and there! We sat at the bar because it was very busy! I ordered a glass of wine and one of their smash burgers! Mine was with lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese. The smash burger is 2, two ounce pattys smooshed together! They were cooked thoroughly and not dry. The veggie ratio was not overwhelming. The buns were buttery and fresh! The smash burger came with fries that were unlike anything I have ever seen! We were visiting Surf City for the day and wanted to grab a quick lunch. Found the Cowfin among some stores in the area. Sat for lunch on a Sunday. They have a very large bar area, and an average amount of dining area seating. Place was very busy. We were all in the mood for burgers and chicken sandwiches and the Cowfin hit the spot. We tried the crispy chicken sandwich, the Carolina Classic burger and the Impossible burger. We tried the sweet potato fries and signature fries. Very tasty. And big portions here. This was a great find so next time in Surf City we will definitely stop here again. read more

And if you want a specific server, which we did, Morgan is hands down the best part of this establishment because the "hostess ass the leastess ...." and she had the personality of a bumper on a 63 chevy stationwagon. We didn't stay for dinner because the air conditioner was blowing straight down on top of us and it was COLD. What really topped it off was the 7 oz (4 oz if you took the ice out) white russian I ordered and it was over $15. Nope. Not a fan. It's a 3 star rating but I look forward to another visit and possibly upgrading this review. Came tonight for the first time and was very happy with the immediate service and super friendly staff. The who place was very clean and the atmosphere was comfortable. The menu is pretty decent with a good mix of various burgers, wings, sandwiches, and sea food options. They also have a nice kids menu that has those always good options like chicken fingers and such. The lower end of our experience came in the form of several things. A few simple ones are... 1. We sat with no silverware and had to ask twice before we finally got any. 2. We got styrofoam cups for our daughter but no lids fit which is annoying. The biggest frustration came with my actual burger. I ordered the very appetizing BBQ burger but was given a mound of very greasy food. Now, I don't mind some grease as it tends to mean a solid cut of meat. But when it's so much that it soaks a bun to the point it falls apart. As well as soaks the paper lining on my plate so much that it also started to break apart into my food...it's just not good. I end up having to use a fork and knife to eat a burger. Just disappointing because the taste of it all was very good! And the accompanied sweet potato fries complemented it great. I look forward to another run at this burger with better construction. All in all... The visit was pleasant and we were happy to have come. I think tonight was just a night that got away from the team here. I still recommend this place to anyone in need of a great place to spend an evening. read more

I recently went out to dinner for my birthday and it was a disaster. I ordered a Mai tai, she forgot to put in the order. After everyone else got their drinks but me, I asked about it. She immediately turned to the bar and I heard her tell the bartender she needed a Mai tai. The bartender got snippy with her loud enough for us to witness the disrespect. Ten minutes later, instead of my fruity mai tai, I got a bourbon old fashioned. My friend ordered a draft beer, they brought her a bottle I ordered a Caesar salad with grilled chicken, she brought me a Caesar grilled chicken wrap and then insisted I ordered that because that's what she had written down. My son had an inch long thick beard hair in his burger, and when I showed her, she didn't even seem upset or surprised. When we finally got the bill, she didn't even comp the disgusting hairy burger off the bill. The cherry on top, she automatically added a 20% tip to the bill. This horrid experience wasn't just on the waitress, the cook and the bartender screwed up too, yet we were forced to tip them 20% because we had 7 people. Absolutely ludicrous. Learned of this place from the internet during our Thanksgiving vacation. Arrived and put our names on waiting list. Told us 45 to 55 minutes. We had no problem with this and walked around to other stores. 55 minutes later we went back to check on how much longer. The incompetent hostess could now not find our name. She actually asked us on arrival how to spell our last name. She said she didn't even remember us . So we went to the Mexican restaurant next door (very good)! I called the manager and said she may have hit delete instead of adding our name. Five minutes after sitting in Mexican restaurant we get a text our table is ready. Again . Really enjoyed this new spot in Surf City. We went for some quick drinks and food and will be back. We were really impressed with the drink selection and the amount of sides you could choose from. (Which honestly, I wish they would do a side plate, because I could have and wanted to try most of the sides). We ended up enjoying some Margs and then got the bang bang shrimp for our appetizer, which came with a decent amount, and more than the two of us could eat. Then for our entrees, we got a smash burger and fried okra (which was delicious) and I got a wrap with the collards. The wrap was not too bad, the bacon was a little chewy in it, but I know it is more of a me preference and some people like that, and the collards were a little bland for me.
