I wish I had read Karly review below before deciding to have lunch here today. The sushi we had was not good. The rice felt old, the presentation was lack luster and it was really not well executed overall. We both had chicken hibachi bento boxes. And as Karly mentioned the white sauce was completely flavorless. I have never had something quite like that. The chicken was dry and flavorless. I had asked for ginger sauce hoping to improve the flavor but no luck. We too decided not to finish our meals but did not take it with us. The rice in the bento box felt like minute rice, also flavorless and the gyoza were deep fried and gave the impression they came from a bag. Summary - Food 4 1/2 stars - Service 5 stars - Ambience 4/12 stars - Recommend Food is pretty good. Ate here for lunch and got the lunch Hibachi filet. The lunch menu is priced pretty good so less of a hit to the wallet. My only compliant is I asked for the filet to be cooked medium rare, but it came out medium well. Still tasted good. Spicy tuna roll was well executed. Drink wise, they have a full bar with craft cocktails and several sake options. I splurged with the Flaming Volcano. It's the most expensive cocktail on the menu. It comes is a large ceramic bowl with a flame in the middle. It was fine, but I don't think I will spend $24 on it again. Service by the waitress and hostess was very good. This was our first time after living in Wilmington for 4 years. We were incredibly disappointed from almost the whole experience. The only thing to note was that the server was kind and on top of it. From the very beginning the water was undrinkable, we had to order soda and even then could taste the nasty water through it. Now onto the sushi, it was reasonably priced but not reasonably made. It was more crunchy and extra sauces than actual any meat. Plus the wrap looked like it had been siting for a while. Now the chicken hibachi - never have I had a white sauce with such little flavor. But more than that, the chicken and vegetables were completely flavorless. We had to continue to add sauce and soy sauce to try to get any flavor out of it. We eventually ended up deciding to not eat it at all and just take it home and try to scavenge what we could from it. We will not be returning. read more

Stopped by for lunch , it was early and the place was not well occupied. We were greeted by our server promptly and given menus and a drink order was taken. Decided on a Bento Box with chicken. The sushi bar looked amazing , great looking product. The green onion soup came out first. It was wam and had great flavor, a wonderful start to the box. The box arrived in short order, plenty of food. The chicken had good flavor , but almost all of it was over cooked and dry. The white dipping sauce helped the dryness, don't know what it was but it was pleasant. The broccoli and zucchini were tasty, not mushy or over seasoned. The fried rice left some to be desired, hardly any vegetables in it and it had some flavor but not much. The gyoza was a nice surprise , tasty and not too greasy. The California roll was just ok , nothing spectacular. I would return to try the sushi since the product in the case looked amazing. read more

Tokyo 101 in Wilmington is one of my absolute favorites -- wonderfully consistent every time I visit. The flavors are fresh and balanced, the presentation is beautiful, and the staff is always warm and welcoming. The Shrimp Paradise Roll is my go-to favorite: perfectly prepared, generously sized, and always served fresh. The bento boxes (no matter which protein you choose) are outstanding -- more than generous portions with an awesome variety of sides, all for a very reasonable price. I've dined here both alone and with family, and the experience is always pleasant and inviting. Rolls come out quickly, entrées are hot and perfectly cooked, and I almost always leave with leftovers. Excellent! Very surprised as it's in a strip area next to movie theater, but the Mayfaire area does have a lot of great merchants. Most surprising for us was the fried tofu. We had a fav place in another city & have been searching for similar tofu - it's soft tofu and the tempura-batter makes these come out like clouds with a crispy outside. DELISH! We were over in Mayfair and craving some hibachi so we made our way over to Tokyo 101. We were sat right away in the back of the restaurant. (They have this white textured wall with a blue light projected on it. It makes it so it looks cool back there, however, it was tough to take pictures of our meals, which is why there are none attached). We decided to start with some Edamame. It was pretty bland and a little over cooked. We then got a steak bento dinner box and I got the Chicken hibachi. Once again the food, meat in this case, was a little bland but with enough white sauce you can fix anything. The chicken was also giant chunks of chicken. The bento box was overall very good and came with white sauce and a dipping sauce that was a sweet vinegar of sorts. Then there was the onion soup. The onion soup was delicious and my favorite part of the meal. Ultimately the food was okay, the atmosphere is very nice and it is a nice location. read more

I went there this evening for a girls night and I ordered a roll specifically asking for no spicy mayo or sauce on the roll. The roll came out fully covered in both spicy mayo and another sauce, I asked if it could be remade and I was told no that it was already cooked. Considering I very specifically made a request and the server made error it is extremely poor customer service to deny another roll remade the correct way. Bento box, Nori, Genki, Yoshi, Yosake, Nikki's (the list goes on) would never provide customer service as such and wants their customers to have the best sushi experience. Mary Ann (I believe that was her name) could use a little extra customer service training, and a smidge better listening skills. We ordered from here during Covid 19 so I could swing by and pick it up on my way home from work. The girl running the take out table was so nice. The food was ready when I got there too. Hubby said his chicken and shrimp hibachi was really good. He wasn't crazy about their white sauce. I got the bonsai roll and the Tokyo 101 roll. The bonsai roll was HUGE! We tried out this place because we were going to the movies and our favorite sushi/hibachi place would have taken too long to go to. We got sat immediately on a Saturday night which possibly should have been our first clue. I got a spicy tuna roll, an order of shumai, and a salad with ginger dressing. My partner got steak hibachi. All of the food was average, the ginger dressing was more salty than I'm used to, the shumai dipping sauce tasted watered down, and the spicy tuna roll was average. My partners steak hibachi was dry, chewy, and tasted a little off. The fried rice was sad looking. Veggies were good. This is all worth three stars, it wasn't terrible but we wouldn't spend money here again, but what makes it two stars is that as soon as we left we both felt sick and had to go to the bathroom and weren't able to go to the movies. read more

So far I have only been to one restaurant that can even come close to their mouthwatering Spicy Salmon roll it tops the charts in my book! Today I did try something new: the roe (fish eggs) the smelt roe was my favorite of the two because of the mild taste and the pleasantly grainy texture. The salmon roe to me tasted fishier, it wasn't bad with a little soy sauce! if you are looking for something new to try I would recommend the roe! I also ordered my usual Onion soup, it has to be one of the best its smooth brothy taste can make anyone feel good! every time I order it, it comes out exactly how I like it; Piping hot. Finally, but most importantly, the SERVICE, It is amazing I get greeted by name and I usually get to set in my favorite spot. I love this place, but I've always eaten outside. Recently, it was too cold, so went inside. We were immediately hit with an odor that was just so bad! It smelled like old dirty mop water. This is a fun place, with a good atmosphere and very solid food. I've always liked the employees there, they're friendly and they remember who you are. Now, I not a sushi person, but I've ordered several protein dishes and have never been dissapointed. They have a good amount of options and the owner knows how to run a business. There is probably own one or two definitively better Japanese places in Wilmington. But if you want good food in a relaxed but nice atmosphere, this is a solid place to go...again, I can't speak for their sushi...I think sushi is stupid read more
