Flaming volcano
Tim S.

Summary - Food 4 1/2 stars - Service 5 stars - Ambience 4/12 stars - Recommend Food is pretty good. Ate here for lunch and got the lunch Hibachi filet. The lunch menu is priced pretty good so less of a hit to the wallet. My only compliant is I asked for the filet to be cooked medium rare, but it came out medium well. Still tasted good. Spicy tuna roll was well executed. Drink wise, they have a full bar with craft cocktails and several sake options. I splurged with the Flaming Volcano. It's the most expensive cocktail on the menu. It comes is a large ceramic bowl with a flame in the middle. It was fine, but I don't think I will spend $24 on it again. Service by the waitress and hostess was very good. The food came out of the kitchen pretty fast. Highly recommend.

I stopped in for a quick lunch at the bar today. I ordered the Rainbow roll and the NC Deluxe roll. Both came out quickly, and everything tasted fresh and amazing. I love that they don't skimp on the roe for topping everything along with tasty sauces to enjoy. Definitely going back!

The green onion soup.

Stopped by for lunch , it was early and the place was not well occupied. We were greeted by our server promptly and given menus and a drink order was taken. Decided on a Bento Box with chicken. The sushi bar looked amazing , great looking product. The green onion soup came out first. It was wam and had great flavor, a wonderful start to the box. The box arrived in short order, plenty of food. The chicken had good flavor , but almost all of it was over cooked and dry. The white dipping sauce helped the dryness, don't know what it was but it was pleasant. The broccoli and zucchini were tasty, not mushy or over seasoned. The fried rice left some to be desired, hardly any vegetables in it and it had some flavor but not much. The gyoza was a nice surprise , tasty and not too greasy. The California roll was just ok , nothing spectacular. I would return to try the sushi since the product in the case looked amazing.

Excellent! Very surprised as it's in a strip area next to movie theater, but the Mayfaire area does have a lot of great merchants. Most surprising for us was the fried tofu. We had a fav place in another city & have been searching for similar tofu - it's soft tofu and the tempura-batter makes these come out like clouds with a crispy outside. DELISH! Also, hubby had noodles & sushi, both of which were amazing. Sushi fish was fresh & THICK! Incredible.

This place is sooo good! Only wish I had taken pics of the sushi we had which was fresh and delicious! This picture is of the Shrimp Dynamite Bite appetizer which included 7 crispy shrimp tossed in a zesty spicy signature sauce. So good!

We were over in Mayfair and craving some hibachi so we made our way over to Tokyo 101. We were sat right away in the back of the restaurant. (They have this white textured wall with a blue light projected on it. It makes it so it looks cool back there, however, it was tough to take pictures of our meals, which is why there are none attached). We decided to start with some Edamame. It was pretty bland and a little over cooked. We then got a steak bento dinner box and I got the Chicken hibachi. Once again the food, meat in this case, was a little bland but with enough white sauce you can fix anything. The chicken was also giant chunks of chicken. The bento box was overall very good and came with white sauce and a dipping sauce that was a sweet vinegar of sorts. Then there was the onion soup. The onion soup was delicious and my favorite part of the meal. Ultimately the food was okay, the atmosphere is very nice and it is a nice location.

Raw Steak , Dry Rice , Bland Salmon

First time going and I live 45 mins away! ordered $40 worth of food & asked for my steak well done as you can see steak wasn't cooked at all, Asked for a refund because I didn't see it until I got all the way home, manager proceeds to say they can't give partial payment because nothing was wrong with the rest of the food and I can get a gift card or come alll the way back for a side of steak! idc ab the rest of the food my time and me almost being sick to my stomach because of your carelessness My food should've been RIGHT the first time! will NEVER get my business again!!

Salad with a ginger dressing
Monica P.

I enjoyed the Bento Box lunch with the hibachi chicken with vegetables. It included two sides, so I chose the gyoza and California roll. It also came with a small salad with ginger dressing and fried rice. Everything was very good; and I even had some leftovers. Reasonable prices, lots to chose from on the menu, and good service. The place wasn't crowded and tables separated far enough to feel very comfortable in these Covid times. I'll definitely eat here again.

First one in and I walked from the hotel Lela only 1/2 mile away. At the recommendation of my super sweet server I tried the fire cracker shrimp which was a regular specialty on he table placard. I also noticed the cod miso which intrigued me so I order it. What brought in though was the Hamichi Kama which I ordered also. On top of this they brought out a black seaweed/gyoza sample. The. On top of that since it is my birthday week they brought me the green tea mocha. Wow to say I am stuff was an understatement. So since this was a progressive ordering situation which I created the food came out sort of mish mash. I started with black seaweed / gyoza sampler. It was awesome. I would have ordered more had I not already ordered . Then I moved on to the bang bang shrimp. 8 breaded shrimp with their version of bang bang sauce. Plump shrimp with a chili sauce. Not bad. The sauce was just a chili style sauce and so left some to be desired. Then the cod miso came out. Wow. Super hot and had actual chunks of cod and veggies in it. Very good. Then the Hamichi Kama which came out. Amazing. I had this before in Japan and in West Virginia. Amazing. Definitely a recommend. Then they brought out the green tea mochi with green tea ice cream. It was the best I have ever had. Amazing meal definitely needed the walk back to try and walk some of it off. The restaurant is small and reservations are highly recommended. Definitely worth the trouble and I plan to return in the future to try some other items.

We were greeted immediately and the servers and chef said welcome in Japanese. We were given warm towels for our hands and it's really a great way to start a meal; it makes you feel revitalized. The inside is nice; they had traditional Japanese music playing in the background so it really set the tone. There are some tables, booths and a counter so you have options on where you can sit. The decor is nice with the lucky cat and other fun decorations. The waitress took our order with a smile on her face and asked us if we wanted recommendations on any of the products or food. She was knowledgeable on the menu and showed real enthusiasm with our questions. I could see the chef preparing the food was clearly skilled and so I did go with what the chef recommended. Before our appetizers, they brought us a complimentary side dish of edamame beans in seaweed salad which was refreshing. Then our appetizers came. We ordered Miso Soup, Garden Salad, California Rolls, Spring Rolls and Pork Gyoza. I had a few of The Pork Gyoza which was cooked perfectly. Crispy at first and then quickly melts in your mouth; was nice and hot too. My family told me the California Rolls and Garden Salad were yummy too. Then the entrees came out and they exceeded our expectations. My family that had the Chicken Fried Rice said it was delicious. One got the Grilled Salmon Dinner and another a Crunchy Roll I believe; they really enjoyed their dishes. My family that ordered the Sushi Platter liked his too (Philadelphia Rolls, Fire Cracker Rolls, Matt's Special and I believe some Salmon Rolls). I had gotten the Chef's recommended, which was two pieces of Yellowtail (Hamachi) and I believe Tuna (Kama-Toro). It was incredibly fresh; among the freshest nigiri I have ever had. I also then ordered their Fire Cracker Roll and that was very good; if you like something with a bit of spice you will love it. We wanted dessert but were too full; just gives us another reason to go back! Genki has something for everyone. Japanese comfort food, Sushi, Sashimi, Nigiri and more. If you haven't already gone, it's time to go; you won't be disappointed! Until next time! じゃあね!

First time we had waited 1 hour for our first tray of sushi to come out and had to ask the bartender to check for our food while the manager was aware and kind of scuffed.second time we went was faster service but still had to wait 40 Minutes for our trays of sushi. Our last time going July 23rd was met by a dirty sticky table then we were asked to move to another and then they sat someone else there without wiping it down. we watched as a table of 9 was able to all be served there 4 course hibachi meal and their server check on them over 5-6 times within the time of us still just having our waters after almost an hour of waiting we did finally get our seaweed salad (cold) no needing to be cooked without silverware or chopsticks to the point where we went to the front and asked why it's taking so long and why we watched a whole table of 9 get finished and almost leaving and also the tables near us that arrived 20 minutes later than us get their sushi trays . They checked to see if it was done we continued to wait another 20 minutes now a total of 1 hour 30 minutes and finally got our first tray of sushi. The night continued to just be an exhausted wait to the point where we just wanted to leave and our appetite just wasn't there anymore . We have only continued going because they are the only ones that do our favorite sushi rolls with such terrible service each time that we know what to expect now and since there's such disregard from management they really don't care . We overheard our waitress saying to the table next to us our sushi is backed up (you guys know the drill here ) right after we had complained to the front desk about such a long wait and drive in total it's just not worth it . If you do choose to go here , expect a 30 min -1 hour wait to be seated , then once you're seated expect another 45-1 hour of wait on food and hoping you still Have an appetite after waiting so long .
