Ate here for the first time in many years. And regret not coming back sooner. Food was excellent. Sushi was fresh. The ambience was trendy and chill. Service was top notch. Even their hot tea was good as we took a cup of it to go on the way out. Plus there have a huge variety of interesting rolls. I will definitely return to check those out. read more

I have always seen this Sushi place on Ventura blvd but we visited the restaurant for the first time the day before Christmas 2022 ! The restaurant was under construction which is ok! But parking could be an issue, specially considering the locations and number of other restaurants and stores in the same plaza, Unfortunately upon walking in no one was there ! And we had to approach one of the staff members to be seated. Very clean and good place to sit and have good conversation while enjoying good food. Food & Prices were reasonable however for some reason the staff were competing or not communicating correctly, we had to ladies taking our order at the same time and we were given the check twice which made me think that they work on commission! I should mention that other than what i mentioned above their staff was on top of their game, making sure that all the tables were taken care of specifically when it came to drinks. read more

Oh my god. Avoid at all cost. Dined last night about an hour ago started feeling sick. Since then have been in and off the toilet. BAD QUALITY!! Don't risk getting sick. So bummed this was the closest place to our new condo. Won't ever return. Update after 15 hours. A full night of sickness , still extremely nauseous and ill. Food poisoning for sure. You must get the baked crab hand roll 10/10. Along with the 818 & paparazzi roll. I've tried other things on the menu but they haven't really impressed me. Among those I have tried were the langostino roll (pass) way too saucy, the calamari tempura, dragon roll, and a few others I can't remember. Service is generally good. However, at times it does feel like they forget to put in your order. I've had waiters come over after we had ordered and ask what part of our order was still pending. I'll probably return for the items noted above. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time and the food was alright. We tried the udon noodles and baked rolls which were good, but what really stood out to me was the service. My servers Jake and Bianca I believe their names are, were extremely accommodating and answered all of our questions. The two of them made all the difference in my experience here and even made us laugh while they seemed busy. The ambiance was very relaxed and could be a casual hang-out spot, date night, or birthday celebration. Parking was pretty tough as there was minimal plaza parking, but we luckily found one on the street. read more

Delicious and creative sushi, awesome atmosphere, and excellent customer service. The sushi chefs and restaurant staff were all friendly and attentive which is always appreciated. If you're feeling adventurous, try the Las Vegas Roll--4 different types of fish all prepared and arranged to perfection with cream cheese and avocado, yum! Found this sushi spot when we were visiting Universal studio. Honestly I wast expecting something good because I have been to many sushi places and most are quite disappointing esp in LA,but oh my,this definitely exceeded my expectations.I only got the chirashi bowl and almost all of them melted in my mouth.I was very pleased and contented.I also got some shishito peppers and the sauce was bomb,it was spicy but you never know with these peppers.Overall,will definitely recommend this place and I will be back again. read more

I figured it was time to write a review for my favorite sushi restaurant of all time sushi Dan! I have been coming here for as long as I can remember I believe the first time I tried it was back in 2007 and boy oh boy have I been a committed fan ever since. I don't even go to any other sushi restaurant that's how good this place is !! my favorite dish is of course the baked salmon roll you can't go wrong with that the paparazzi roll is also amazing. The service has always been great and the vibe is chill and different but in a good way where you don't feel out of place . I've brought all my friends here over the years and I've made them all big fans as well. I will keep coming here as long as they continue to make great sushi. read more

I haven't been to Dans in over 8yrs and unfortunately it definitely wasn't the same quality of sushi I remembered it to be. We ordered Toro Sashimi ,Salmon nigiri ,Uni nigiri ,yellowtail belly nigiri,salmon sashimi mackerel nigiri all ok quality and cut small pieces than I remembered. And our waiter got a handful of orders all wrong from quantity to which sushi I placed. Probably won't go back . I don't mind paying more if the sushi was better. read more

I think it's a solid sushi restaurant, there's a wide variety of options on the menu just like any other restaurants but the stand out menu item was the baked crab hand roll, it is so buttery, creamy and warm, it melts in your mouth! The menu prices are standard and so is the quality of the fish. There is a very affordable happy hour too. There usually is enough space in the parking lot or street parking around the neighborhood. read more

My favorite sushi in all of LA. Been coming here for 20 years. New chef who is way too old to be employed. Very rude. After waiting for 20 minutes he asked for my order. Mid sentence he looked away and started talking to a waiter. Then he proceeded to make a few orders and NEVER asked me again. Another waitress asked me if something was wrong I said yes and I would like to pay for my drink. She actually charged me and I walked out. So tired of bad service in LA. The food 11/10 There is such a variety of food and drinks that taste so good. The service is perfect such nice people, including a super nice view when outside the restaurant of Universal. Theres always music and a nice vibe when in the restaurant. My favorite dish was the crazy Danny in the fried shell with the perfect spice. I love this place. They have a nice happy hour, and their food is consistently tasty, with good quality fish. My only complaint is that it seems a bit over priced. Likely because of location. As for the staff, who always seem to be friendly and very on top of it, attentive and informative. Mari was our server last time, and she was such sweet server! She gave my friend really great recommendations and was super patient with him as he gets kind of annoying when ordering food (It's true), but Mari was nice, professional and patient.. and she's the cutest preggers lady! Pretty good sushi but terrible service!! Don't know if this because they were busy but honestly was not as bad as I thought when I walked in to grab my order. First off, I arrived at restaurant because I was told my order was ready but when I spoke to server she said my order was still being worked on. I waited a couple mins she came back checked and my order was ready and had been sitting on the counter all along. Then when I arrived home, ready to dig in, I open one of the containers has a completely different roll than what I had ordered! I start freaking out but see that the second container had the rest of my order. read more

I came in looking for a quick bite not expecting much. I ordered the salmon, yellow tail, red snapper, black snapper, lightly seared jumbo scallops, octopus, and uni sushi to finish the meal. To my delight I was very impressed by the quality of sushi I received and I was very pleased. My favorite was the uni of course, but that's not to take away from any of the other pieces of sushi. The black snapper bit me back with a smooth silky taste and the salmon almost felt like belly. I would definitely recommend this sushi restaurant for anyone in the area looking for nice meal and a relaxing time. My score is 8/10! Would come back. I called them at 715pm (12/17) a lady answered took my order, gave me an estimated time of 25 mins to when my food will be ready. I arrived approximately at 8pm and the lady at the counter told me they never received my order! Not only did they waste my gas and time, they also made me feel embarrassed in front of the staff and other guests waiting to be helped. As if I'm the one who messed up. They really need to be more organized in the front, they seem to always be stressed there. Amazing food but the employees are a main priority to keeping a business successful. read more

This is my 2nd favorite place for sushi in the valley. It has a cute bar/restaurant vibe that feels cozy. It's Dimly lit and family friendly. On sushi menu you'll fend the sushi staples like salmon, tuna and eel. The rolls are yummy although not that big. The rice is tender as well which is so important. Sushi Dan is good and a spot that delivers your average sushi. We went around sushi hopping today and started here with edamame and the Shrimp Crunch Roll. The edamame wasn't fresh and the roll was... average. No major complaints but nothing to rave about either. You should feel confident going here. You'll receive edible food but I wouldn't expect anything that'll blow your mind. We will stop by if someone invited us but wouldn't go here by our own choice. Great service and friendly staff. "Let's find the most "fake sushi" near us!" -------------------------- Before I continue, I should note this is not an insult. Our family friend was visiting from Japan, and he was craving sushi rolls. Plus, this was a rare opportunity to have a Double date with no kids, so HELL TO THE YES!! How did I know we found a fake Japanese place? When I called for a last minute reservations, a woman with a Japanese accent took our info down. What was her name, you might ask? "Araceli" (hahahahaha) we ordered a bunch of dishes, and frankly don't remember (check out my photos). The most memorable were the salmon nigori, and the langostino. YUM!! The tempura ice cream was meh, just a rock hard block of ice cream coated in slightly gritty tempura flour. Good for a one time try. Sushi Katsu-Ya features exclusively indoor seating in a small space on Sushi Row but I enjoy their decor and more intimate atmosphere! Spicy tuna crispy rice 5/5, loved!! soft but not too soft, crunchy but not too crunchy, tuna was fresh and just melted on the tongue, I'd reorder this everytime Teppan roll 1/5, omg so I wanted to try another "special" roll from my usual as an experience but this comes out steaming hot?? Apparently a Teppan roll IS supposed to be hot except this was never listed on the menu or clarified by any of our 2 rotating waiters so??? The fish was fresh, flavors were very good, and I was so full I even handed off my last roll to my daughter. The only downside - inside is loud, you can't have a nice conversation, and I just wish the tables were spaced out more for comfort. So selfish of me to wish huh. It was a good dinner experience. Another highlight was me teaching my friend to eat with chopsticks. She was a good student and a quick learner. I wanted to take a picture of her, but she refused. Maybe next time. Restaurant was super clean including their 2 gender neutral restrooms. I have been here so many times way before the Yelp years. It never disappoints.
