We have been long term clients of Sushi Dan but today I was very disappointed from the service. I walk in with my 2 small kids and as soon as we were about to sit one staff came and whispered something to our hosts ear. My host then turns and asks if we could sit somewhere else because the family behind us "does not like sitting next to screaming babies." I refused to move and said let them move. Mind you my babies did not make one noise and the restaurant had loud music and everyone talking loud that even if they screamed the room was already super loud. read more

Sushi Dan is a pretty steady sushi restaurant. I used to hit here for lunch when I worked nearby, and visited again after a long absence. It's a varied menu (a lot of their own creations) & they also have some of the rolls as "half size" (and half price) which is a cool way to sample things you've never had before. It's just a little...no-frills isn't exactly it, and the waiters are polite, but there's not a whole lot to the ambience. (Besides a pretty strong cleaner smell) As my memory served, it wasn't like that in the past. It happens when people leave and new people come in, I guess. Don't take that as a huge negative - you're here for the sushi, and it's good. Of all that I've had, the shrimp tempura and caterpillar rolls are my favorites here. read more

Cute little sushi joint in the little strip mall off Ventura Boulevard. I was meeting some friends at residuals Tavern after and this was a great pitstop to get some fresh sushi. Service was pretty good, and I like their little color-changing tree inside. But the food was pretty meh. The chicken in the teriyaki chicken was ok quality and the teriyaki tasted kinda weird. Very watery and overly sweet. The shrimp tempura in the rolls we got was yummy, but the rolls themselves weren't put together very well. Sushi Dan is one of my go-to places for sushi when I'm near work. Their fish is always fresh and they have excellent lunch specials. I love getting an assortment of fresh nigiri rolls (their salmon is exceptional) and the Bon Bon roll as a treat. The Hot Night 2 is also tasty. My friend ordered the sashimi and tuna tartare. She loved both. The staff is extremely friendly and speedy. They're very knowledgeable about the dishes and helpful with recommendations. It's also really cute inside! Came 2 months ago for the first time since after i moved to the neighborhood and it was amazing . I believe i came 3 times over 2 weeks . First of all, parking lot is very small. Fortunately, someone was leaving as we pulled in so we were lucky enough to grab that spot. We went during happy hour. Everything we got was pretty good. It came out quickly and it was fresh. The have a couple of TVs so we were able to catch the Dodger game. I didn't catch the server's name but he was very efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. The wagyu beef sushi was marinated to perfection and very tender! Did not like that they only serve two small pieces for $22, that needs to be fixed. We then had the hot night roll 2, let me tell you, it is hot! Not like fire, like pepper! It was still very good though, especially if you like spicy food! I'm currently pregnant and was seriously craving sushi, so we came to Sushi Dan. I ordered the Longasino roll, which I absolutely, absolutely love. It is everything and more. So flavorful, comforting, and satisfying. I already know I'll be craving it again during this pregnancy and even after. They also recommended the baked salmon roll, which I decided to try, and unfortunately that one wasn't for me. The combination of crunchy carrot with creamy cream cheese just didn't work for my taste. I should have asked what was in it before ordering instead of trusting the recommendation. I definitely won't be ordering that roll again. That said, Sushi Dan still delivers when it comes to what they do best. I'm terribly disappointed by the service here and the lack of attention to my well communicated allergy. I clearly communicated with my server that I had celiac which was a severe gluten allergy, and that meant I could have no soy sauce or toppings on my food and requested the surface to be wiped down (we were the only people there, no other food was being made), which he said it would be and seemed to be clear on the issue. I even reiterated that it needed to be communicated to the kitchen and sushi chef, and the waiter said he would do so. I ordered the lunch special, and what was the first thing to come out? Nigiri drenched in ponzu. I asked for it to be remade, and got attitude from the sushi chef when I asked to please make sure it wouldn't have any toppings. People, I literally made a yelp account to leave a review for this place. This restaurant is what me and my family call a hidden gem inside Studio City: Food is tasty, service is always fantastic, and although the restaurant is small, they have a light up tree in the middle of it which makes it very charming :). (Women's bathroom is also always clean, which is a bonus. ) We've been accommodated well as a big family with multiple kids, and they even gave out a complimentary birthday ice cream (they bring out a gong and sing a little song for you, too!). I love their kid's meals in a little boat... as a mom it saves you a lot of headache. It's a little tough financially in general for us to go out together and eat these days, so when we do, everything really counts. And we're coming back for sure. read more

The service was some of the worst I've ever encountered. No one greeted us properly, and our server didn't bother confirming a single item we ordered. Unsurprisingly, several dishes showed up that we never asked for -- and guess what? They had the audacity to charge us for them. When we pointed it out, the staff acted confused and dismissive, as if we were the problem. But the cherry on top was the manager -- an arrogant, rude, power-tripping nightmare. Instead of apologizing or even pretending to care, they doubled down and insisted we pay for the food we never ordered, threatening to call security if we didn't comply. Completely unprofessional and borderline hostile. The food? Mediocre at best. Fish didn't taste fresh, rolls fell apart on the plate, and presentation looked like a high schooler made it in a rush. Combine that with a headache from the music and the sheer stress of dealing with this place, and it honestly felt like a prank gone wrong. Never again. Lots of indoor and outside seating so still no wait even though it's busy. We decided to splurge when we had lunch here so we ordered various items for appetizer and miso soup. Then for main course we had two of Dan's Special namely: Baked Langostino $31.25 California rolls topped with baked langostino mixed with creamy dynamite sauce, mushrooms, masago, scallions, and eel sauce. Forbidden Pleasure $22 Shrimp tempura and spicy tuna inside, topped with salmon, crabmeat, red onions, tempura flakes, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. Both didn't disappoint as they were certainly delicious with wonderful flavors exploding in our mouth. The taste, presentation, and big portions justified the cost. I could have easily given 5 stars but I felt like customer service was a bit lackluster. We didn't see any smiling faces from beginning to end. My husband and I were hungry after a full day spent at Universal Studios and felt like having sushi so this location was the perfect find for us. The rest of our experience here besides location convenience was mediocre at best. PARKING was not great - the lot is small and shared with other businesses and it was full on a Sunday night. The street parking is sparse and many cars had a ticket on them because it's permit only after 6pm. SERVICE was pretty good. We were attended to right away and ordered items came out quickly. FOOD QUALITY was just ok, the roll we got was pretty good but the chirashi "bowl" fell flat. It didn't have much fish on it, didn't come in an actual bowl, and the price was hefty for what you actually get. It didn't come with any miso soup which usually at others places it does and we've had better chirashi bowls elsewhere for a smaller price. COST was steeper compared to other sushi spots and for what you get. I don't think we would return here - better options elsewhere. read more

We were able to get a reservation on Mother's Day for a big group of 17 with little notice so it's definitely a restaurant that can accommodate a big group. We were immediately seated and promptly given menus with their specials. The main menu was a QR code on the table. Even though our full party wasn't there we were seated which is always a plus with a large party. They have a pretty extensive menu with not just sushi but hot foods from the kitchen. Food came out rather quickly except for one of kid's meals. They did apologize a few times and offered to take half off, but at some point we decided to cancel as the kid was so hungry just ate someone else's leftovers.
