My husband and I try to come here at least once a month, but have come less frequently after moving away from the Mason Rd area. We usually end up coming in the evenings early in the week for their AYCE dinner menu, but tonight's experience as a busy Friday evening is what prompted me to write this review. Immediately, we walk into a packed restaurant, but magically there is a spot for us. Next, because they were so busy, the owner or manager (not sure which) greeted us again and took our full order. We rarely deviate from our regular order so we didn't have to stare at the menu too long. We were warned of the potential wait to get our six rolls and various appetizers, but we were prepared for that anyway. Within 10-15 minutes of ordering we already had our entire meal- quicker than on a slow night! Now while we probably won't make a point to test the consistency of the service with a busy evening (we like the quieter experience anyway), I felt it was important to recognize how they handled this particularly busy Friday evening. The management stepped up to assist the servers, the tables were cleaned quickly, the wait to be seated was virtually nonexistent even with large parties walking through the door, and the food was delivered to the table in an amazingly short amount of time. I highly recommend the fire roll, dynamite roll, and Tom's roll- they are outstanding! Thank you for the wonderful evening of stuffing our faces of delicious sushi! Pretty big place and they seem to be tidy as well. The food is not what I was expecting. I ordered the Shaggy Dog Roll which was okay and had better. Was not expecting the little kick since none of the shaggy dogs I ordered had a spice to it. Then ordered the rainbow roll and dynamite roll which was also okay. Couple of the rolls that we ordered was not intact and fell apart with one touch. Salmon was pretty fresh as sashimi but the tuna and yellowtail didn't really sit with me. I ordered the chicken teriyaki don first because I knew it would take time to cook. I think they either forgot that order or just didn't write it down so I had to remind them which came out last when I was literally almost full. It was totally not worth the wait. The egg was not completely cooked all the way and it was flavorless. I had to put about a tablespoon of soy sauce to give it flavor. Ice cream was pretty good but it was slightly melted making me think is this in a warm place? The customer service maybe needs work. We came Sunday evening and it was not busy at all. There was one young girl who was helpful though. There was a lady waitress with glasses which look came late or was on break and took over but when delivering our food she just threw the food on the table without asking who's dish it was. And several times we tried getting her attention to order but she completely ignored us. Then there was this male waiter who was picking up the soy sauce about to leave which we didn't know so we tried ordering and he told us sorry he can't help us and that he's done for the night. I mean it takes maybe 10 secs to order and another 10 secs to give the order to the chef....so I dont think I'll be coming back. This was not worth $26.99 dinner. read more

I've been too many all oh can eat sushi restaurants but never in Houston. I don't know why all these years I've never searched for one. This is the only I've been to that serve all you can eat sashimi! This restaurant only offers all you can eat. Lunch is ~ $17 and dinner is ~$26. All it can eat sashimi is only during dinner. They have a large menu and I doubt many people go for their fried rice and udons. Their roll creations are on point and has everything I love. Eel, shrimp, avocado, salmon, tuna, all the sauces, and much more. You can order as much as you want just don't waste food. The sashimi is cut very small but that's ok. You can order in large quantities. I suggest ordering both rolls and sashimi and adding sashimi on top of the rolls. Not only is there a lot of food, the quality of sushi is surprising very good and fresh. The salmon was the best. The tuna could use more fat. You can tell it wasn't the best. But it was good enough. This place is pretty awesome for the quality and price you get especially with an AYCE sushi. Within 5 min of ordering my sushi and hot dishes came out fresh and hot!! Service was ok, I didn't have a problem with the waitress. I come to Sushi 9 every so often with a friend of mine, we always enjoy the copious amounts of food available through their all-you-can-eat menu! There's rarely a wait and the front staff is quick. We go for dinner mostly, which includes an option for sashimi, and usually order quite a few. I havent ever had a bad experience going there, though the one let down was a time I went for dinner with the family and was told the menu included 1 order of a hamachi kama per person. An expensive item, so understandable, just make sure you know it's not all "unlimited". I greatly enjoy the Flying Fish Egg Salad, and my order upon order of fresh salmon sashimi. The few rolls I've tried have not let me down, though the miso soup can sometimes fall a bit flat. IF you're going there for lunch, you do have the option to ask for a Dinner Menu at the dinner price, (which is what I usually do, since I enjoy Sashimi more than nigiri) I look forward to my next visit! read more

Stay away!!!!! They use very poor quality fish and the cuts were jagged. Even the tamago was beyond expiration and cut like a pinky finger. The rolls' ratio of fish to rice is highly unproportional. Rolls are made largely with rice and drenched in sauce to mask the remnants of any of the poor cuts of fish shoved haphazardly between large pieces of lettuce and cucumber or pressed on top of the roll itself. The portion of fried rice was greasy and was served in a small bowl. The soy paper is $1 dollar extra if you want to substitute on a handroll. This is definitely not as authentic as the ambiance perceive s. Beyond disappointed with the flavors and portions of fish to rice ratio. Dinners and weekends are $10 more per person. They have a wide variety of items you can order. I always get Crab Tempura and Shui Mai with every order. DOES NOT COMPLY WITH FEDERAL SERVICE ANIMAL LAWS! So this used to be my family's favorite place to get Sushi. It was reasonable and all you can eat! Well my son made the request for his birthday to go to celebrate there. We get there and we never even get seated. I am a Marine veteran and I have struggled for over 15 years with different mental and physical disabilities. Just in the past year it was made possible for me to have a service dog. It has been life changing and has allowed me to do many things I have not in years like enjoy myself in crowded places. The moment we walked into the restaurant we were stopped. My dog has clear SERVICE DOG markings on his vest and is very well trained. He is rarely even noticed by most that dont see me walk in. From that point the circus started. The hostess tells me no dogs allowed. I kindly tell her he is a service dog and hand her a card that references the federal laws on service animal access. It even has a 1800# for a direct line to the DOJ so that concerns can be handled properly. She refused to look at it. She then went back and got whom I assume was a manager. He too declined to view the card. I was then handed a cell phone. I was told it was the manager. I clearly stated that my dog was a service dog and was even willing to give him his registration #. Before I could finish my sentence he wanted to know if the of had photo ID. I told him no and that it was not required by law. His response..."I have had bad reviews on Yelp because other dogs did not have clear markings and people complained. Needless to say after a scene was made and peoples dinners were distributed we left. I will not return to this restaurant and I will make sure that even though they provide a military and veteran discount it is known that they DO NOT in fact support or vets. Instead I was inappropriately discriminated against and told I could not allow my son to enjoy his birthday dinner there as long as my SERVICE DOG was present. It's my hope this review finds the incompetent manager that I spoke to and makes him smile because I know it make me smile just thinking about it. My friend and I met here for lunch and it was a pleasant experience. The ambiance is calm, clean and modern. The staff was friendly. When I first heard it was All you can eat I was assuming it was buffet style sushi so I was kind of worried. It's actually made to order here so it was very fresh! The menu is very large. Sushi 9 is one of the few places to get all you can eat sushi in the Houston area, and it's solid food at a great value. I went here for weekend lunch with friends and it's only 20 bucks for all the sushi and Japanese appetizers you can eat with no time limit! Definitely a great place to bring groups of friends so make sure to come hungry. The menu has all the typical things you'd expect at a Japanese restaurant, miso soup, tempura, rice bowls, and sushi. There's no sashimi at lunch, but there's still plenty of other things. You want to go for the unlimited salmon nigiri and their rolls, which might typically cost at least $10 a pop even at cheaper regular sushi places. The fish is pretty fresh (better than plenty of other places in Houston) and the rolls actually have a good ratio of rice (not too much at all). I also tried their tempura (okay), fried dumplings (not bad), and their beef/salmon teriyaki (both a tad dry). If you're looking to maximize value, stick to the rolls and nigiri, but if you have the stomach room to spare I'd definitely go for the other hot food on their menu which is not bad, too. The only major gripe I have is that their nigiri selection is somewhat limited and there's no tuna at lunch, but you can't expect too much for this price. I'll definitely be coming back here when I have the time to make the trek out to Katy, as this place offers some of the best value for sushi in Houston. The sushi here may be all you can eat, but it is at least on par with plenty of the other cheaper sushi places in Houston and probably a little bit better. One had some siracha sauce on it and it was a little much, completely lost the flavor of the roll and was overpowered with heat. My favorite part was the ramen-- it came with noodles and shrimp on one side and broth on the other side you can mix at your hearts content. Cons: - The waitresses/servers are all pretty average. They don't do anything special in terms of energy level or making you feel overly special, but they do what's necessary. - There is a surcharge/fee if you order too much food (during the buffet) and don't finish it! Tip: order only what you and your tablemates can consume! - They have two TVs, but the volume isn't on, and they play pretty generic music throughout the restaurant. On this particular occasion, I decided to do the all you can eat. I tried out many of the items, and the overall quality of everything was pretty good. My only gripe with the orders is they give you pretty small portions for many items especially the sashimi. I ordered 20 pieces of salmon, and they came out in really small chunks. However, the fish was quite fresh and delicious. In terms of the rolls, my personal favorite was the spider roll. They gave heaping portions of soft shell crab. Overall, I had a pretty good experience at Sushi 9. There were a few mix ups with the orders, however, its pretty understandable when people order so many different items at once. Service seemed friendly though not properly educated on OSHA, for someone that is working in the Food Industry. We were welcomed to our table and we noticed the waitress wearing gloves and that's okay! BUT we noticed that she kept using the same gloves for EVERYTHING.... when she would go clean up tables and pick up dirty plates from the table she was wearing the same gloves, so we kindly asked if she was changing her gloves after she cleaned up a table to serve our food, the manager told us they use the SAME gloves ALL DAY! That "it shouldn't be an issue bc they sanitize the tables and it wouldn't be considered dirty" but since I work in the dental field I'm very aware of cross contamination, so we told the manager that if those dirty gloves touched our food they obviously could not sanitize our food... and all the manager said was "well what do you want me to do" ???
