Worth the hype! My friends and I went for dinner on a Friday, so the restaurant was packed and had a lively atmosphere. Despite it being busy, we got seated pretty quickly, and the service was excellent. Our server checked on us frequently, and she had great recommendations. They have an extensive menu, so there's lots to choose from. For nigiri, I really enjoyed the garlic ponzu salmon, garlic ponzu tuna, and umami oil salmon. I also loved the spicy salmon hand roll and ended up ordering it twice. Don't forget to ask about the secret menu! There were some great items that we got to try. Our entire party became sick within 4-8 hours of eating here. We eat sushi regularly and have never experienced anything like this before, which made the timing very concerning. Beyond that, the dining experience itself was frustrating. We were told the lunch menu was unavailable despite arriving during what we considered normal lunch hours. We were also given a single order sheet for multiple people. Several members of our party ordered the exact same rolls, so we marked quantities of 2 or 3 for those items. However, when the food arrived, only a single roll was brought out instead of the quantity ordered. The ordering process was confusing, and it felt like there was a misunderstanding that was never properly explained or corrected. Between the illness concerns and the confusing service practices, I cannot recommend this restaurant based on our experience. Given what occurred, I believe the local health department should take a closer look at the food handling and operating practices here. read more

Came on a Saturday evening with friends. This is an AYCE Sushi in the Katy Asiatown. We were a large a party. Little Sakana does take reservations. It didn't seem too busy for a Saturday evening but probably best to get a reservation just in case. Getting here was easy and easy to find. Plenty of parking. Nice complex to eat and even get dessert or after dinner coffee/tea. The place is pretty decently sized. Very open, bright, and clean. $36 for dinner (ages 11+). Note that youre limited to a 2 hr dining time which starts once you are seated, not when you first order so keep that in mind. Even if your party is incomplete, your time will start once you're seated so consider waiting to the whole party is there. You order off a sheet that has 3 rounds on our but you are able to order additional rounds if you get that far. I'm not a fan of having to fill out the sheet as its not quite ideal if you're a large party. Trying to gather everyone's order on to the sheet takes more time vs going one by one to get everyone's order in. The items also just come out all together on the same plate and sometimes we forget who ordered what and the amount. Our party was split into 2 ordering sheets. Table A and Table B which was indicated on the street But it really didn't didn't help any when the food came out. When the food runners came out, they were placing the orders on the wrong side of the table which left confusion on whose order was whose. Or the other side accidentally eating the others order. The menu selection has the basics and traditional sushi. The sashimi selection only had 9 options and thinly sliced.... like size 2 deli slices (IYKYK). 3 slices of sashimi at Sakana world equate to 1 sashimi slice normally. The Sushi slices were thin too me as well and placed on a hefty portion of rice. There is a leftover surcharge but it's not explained in detail so idk if that included the rice. It does seem the place does try and in hopes to fill you up on the rice and fillers. We did come with experienced diners who told us about the "secret menu" you have to ask for. They do not advertise it nor informed by the wait staff unless you literally ask. They are "premium " or "specialty" sushi pieces that are limited to 2 pieces per person. One of their advertised special of the day was Liver of Munkfish. Limited to 1 per person. The Monkfish was a first time for myself so not sure how it was to taste but it didn't really have a flavor to it and texture is velvity. It was served over seaweed and the seaweed over powered it i guess. Sushi rolls come in mostly 4 pieces and some in 6. The Lemon roll and baked scallop rolls were the tables favorite. The salmon skin appetizer was really good. The spicy Kani salad was a popular one as well. The agedashi tofu should be skipped. Garlic ponzu salmon and soy salmon sushi was another favorite. Our waitress was great and very nice. She checked on us frequently. For $36 the sushi and menu options were okay. Unfortunately the "premium " selections and secret menu didn't stand out or tasted premium to me. We had a nice dinner with the friends but sushi quality was in line with just above mediocre and the tricks in an AYCE place is on par to limit your consumption. The food was both delicious and fresh and it was great portion sizes I had a wonderful server I believe her name was Michelle. The space was cute and inviting. I said no it's not , server said it's fine this time but if we order items that comes with rice we have to eat it . If they charged me for the rice that I don't eat bc it gets me full quicker, that tip would depreciate. I come here to enjoy a good meal and this last one wasn't it, it ruined my appetite. This was just an okay experience for me. Great location, nice modern interior, fantastic service.... But the sushi was just a little small in size and thinly cut causing me to eat too much rice. I did just order from the standard menu so maybe the premium service would put bigger cuts on the plate, but I doubt I'm going back to discover if this is the case or not. read more

Probably one of my favorite spots for AYCE sushi! Just a heads up, if you get cold easily like me, I would bring a sweater because it's pretty chilly inside. The restaurant and bathrooms are well-lit, clean, and nicely decorated. The AYCE menu has a variety of different dishes to choose from and I loved how there were different sauce options for the salmon and tuna nigiri's (i.e. garlic ponzu salmon, citrus soy salmon, umami oil salmon, etc). For the appetizers, definitely get the crispy salmon skin! I wasn't sure if I believed my friend at first when he was hyping this up but he was right because this was so addicting. The texture and savory flavor of the salmon was so addicting. I will say, compared to Sushi Masa and other AYCE sushi spots that I've been to, Little Sakana has more rice in their nigiri's so that definitely filled me up faster. Speaking of rice, some of the rice kept falling apart as we tried to pick up the nigiri but overall, the quality of the fish was great! Aside from the great food, our server Michelle was fantastic! We ordered a lot of the nigiris, rolls, and sashimi. Nothing really stood out in terms of quality. We ordered a lot of salmon sashimi and it was kind of really sadly cut. There shouldn't be jaggedness when cutting the fish which was surprising to see. The chefs special menu which we could only get 1 of was good, but not so special or amazing that we feel like it should be limited to 1 per person. This place doesn't offer any like beef or hibachi type items. I did like the Kama which is fish collar. Some of the bites of fish were not cold enough and slightly fishy. I'd probably rate this place a 2.5 out of 5 but since the service was really good I rounded to a 3. Favorite nigiri was the umami salmon oil and the salmon belly. Just enough rice. - The staff is friendly, and the food came out at a good, consistent pace. - Dedicated free parking but a little tight. Cons: - Lack of seared nigiri. They only have seared tuna. - Pricier. - The appetizers were fine, but nothing special or unique. - Lack of dessert choices. Might've just been confusion, but during one of the visits, our party only received one order of the "chef's special" despite the menu stating it's one per person. I also enjoyed the restaurant decorations and how spacious it is. My only complaint is that the music is super loud so it felt like everyone in the restaurant was screaming at each other to be heard. After a refreshing dip at Spa World, we took the opportunity to meet up with our friends and see how this AYCE sushi spot stacked up against others in town. Since we were a larger group, I had called the day before to reserve a table and they were happy to help us - with the caveat that we'd only get a 5-minute grace period to seat our whole party. Luckily, our last two members made it (with a photo finish!) and we were promptly shown to our long table in the middle of the restaurant. Here are my thoughts on our experience: Menu: In a retro but surprisingly refreshing way, Little Sakana uses paper menus for ordering; since I'm usually at AYCE with bigger groups, I actually found it a lot easier to physically write orders down than to coordinate a big order on my Notes app. Score! In addition to the wide variety of nigiri, sashimi (now included in base dinner price), appetizers, salads, and rolls, they also had a few off-the-menu specials (which for us were salmon and yellowtail belly). The specials were our favorites of the night, though everything was notably fresh, delicious, and well-portioned - no half-frozen fish slices or mega rice chunks to be found here! The rolls come in 4-piece orders, so you can try more flavors without filling yourself up as quickly. There are fewer hot food options here than at other AYCEs, but you didn't come here to eat chicken teriyaki, did you? Service: Within minutes of placing our order, our first plates began to arrive - talk about instant gratification! Throughout our meal, I felt we were always well attended to and it was easy to flag down servers for refills or to place new orders. They were super patient with us as we navigated the menu and didn't try to rush us out at all, which I greatly appreciated. Logistics: Parking is plentiful in this Katy Asian Town-adjacent strip mall, and thankfully it wasn't too busy when we went despite it being Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Still, you may want to take advantage of the reservation option if you are trying to bring a bigger group at a peak dining time. While it's a little far out for me, I'm jealous that Katy folks have such a great AYCE sushi choice right within their neighborhood - I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I were in the area! read more

Nut allergy friendly: No issues here at all, don't think they even use nuts. Arrived at noon on a Friday and there was plenty of parking and plenty of seating. I did notice that they have a QR code wait-list system. Firstly, service here is incredibly fast. The servers use a mobile system to shoot orders to the kitchen. Our first nigiri showed up at the table as our second person was still putting orders in. We never waited longer than a few minutes for orders, so it's great for a work lunch. We did have some misses though - they dropped off an incorrect order once, and totally forgot the miso soup we ordered at the start of the meal. The lunch menu includes everything except sashimi. I ordered several pieces of Nigiri and enjoyed the tuna pieces more. The Ponzu and Soy sauce variants basically mean you don't need to dip in any soy sauce. I would avoid the octopus and squid - the textures were quite slimy and stringy. Not a fan. The nigiri rice was also relatively loose sometimes, not firm enough to pick up without it falling apart. Unfortunately, the speciality rolls fall a bit flat. Nearly every roll on the menu is either filled with imitation crab, avocado, or shrimp tempura. This leads to a mildly bland roll that sometimes gets overwhelmed by whatever sauce is on top. That's especially true for the baked rolls. I'll say that my coworker's favorite rolls were the Hurricane and the Tsunami, and mine was probably the VIP for the little citrus kick. I also did one order of takoyaki, which came out steaming hot but nothing special. Lot of dough inside and little texture except for the crispiness, so I'd guess they were frozen before. Towards the middle of our meal, several big parties came in and our service slowed down a bit, but still quite fast. Overall, fast rolls that aren't really my cup of tea, but it's a reasonable price to scratch the sushi itch. (Lunch $29.50 after tax and tip). I will probably not return and prefer to pay a bit more for another spot nearby with better specialty roll options. read more

Dorcey was my waitress and was extremely attentive. All of the staff was formidable and friendly. I dined in on Saturday during lunch rush hour between 2-3 and didn't have to wait to be seated for a party of one. I definitely recommend stopping by with a friend due to the quality of food for the price you pay. AYCE on the weekends and holidays serve under the dinner price for $34.99, and $22.99 M-F for lunchtime until 3pm. Overall, I had one appetizer, 2 nigiri's and 6 sushi rolls with green tea ice cream that is included per person. Krab Ragoon: 3/5, not my favorite in taste but once you pair it with the dipping sauce it bumps the flavor up to a 4. Save the dipping sauce as it tastes great with some of the sushi!! Rainbow roll: 5/5, was by far my favorite that I had it twice. Fresh, and great ingredients. Spicy Crunch: 4/5, tasted really great with the krab ragoon orange dipping sauce. Nice crunch to it. High Roller: 3/5, while I chose it because it was prepared with eel sauce it didn't live up to my expectations and was falling apart really easily. Average taste, a little to acidic for me. Lemon Roll: 4/5 the lemon definitely gives it a nice tangy flavor that paired well with the salmon. Tastes great just by itself! Seared tuna crunch: 4/5, was promising but I think it can do without the sauce on top. Umami Oil Salmon: 5/5, I could have a whole ROLL of this one! Tasted so good and fresh!! Miso Soup: 5/5, great miso and broth in this soup to sip in between rolls. Alaska Roll: 4/5, good roll that had fresh ingredients, just didn't WOW me like the rainbow or umami oil nigiri. I'd definitely recommend checking this place out. It was tranquil environment where you can come eat peacefully without being overwhelmed with noise from most restaurants. I came here with a friend for dinner and as our first time, we both were impressed! They had just opened at 5pm and we got there 20 minutes after opening and people were walking in also! Looked like a popular place so I guess we picked the rest place for sushi! They're an AYCE which is great with a limited menu (but have secret menu items) that were so delicious! Service was great, I think they had someone new because the manager came by to greet us and get some items started for us while he got situated. Service is super fast, food comes out quick, within 5 minutes of us ordering because they're small portions. The manager did mention to us that we will get charged for large portions of left overs which we definitely made sure to avoid, clearing every plate. They pick up our empty plates also fairly quickly and checked in with us when they saw all the food was gone which makes the perfect time to order more! With a 2 hour limit, you really finish within that time because the food comes fast and there's very little wait time. I also got their cocktail the Melona which was delicious! definitely boozy and sweet with the actual ice cream in the drink. I'd get it again! Honestly, the menu feels lacking compared to the other AYCE in houston. The secret menu items are limited to 1-2 pieces per person, and the secret items are not anything crazy for an AYCE spot. I thought that there was a lack of premium fish options especially in their sashimi selection.
