I wasn't gonna write a review at Zake Sushi & Ramen because I was just a passerby. But since I posted my experience on Dining Rewards website, I decided to write something on Yelp. Right. I didn't check in nor take photos. That was all because me and my out-of-town friend had to move the table because his passion fruit iced tea spilled all over. As he tried to stick the straw into the sealed cup, the cup busted open and the tea flown everywhere including his jeans. But why put your drink in a sealed cup like boba tea joints? We were dine in customers. We ordered bento boxes. His was steak teriyaki and mine was chicken teriyaki. It was his first time eating Japanese food. So, he had nothing to complain about. He said it was tasty. But me on the other hand, I was not happy. Far from being authentic Japanese food. The egg roll doesn't belong to bento box. Salad dressing was bland. Chicken teriyaki lacking flavor, too. Steamed rice was dry and definitely not Japanese rice. California rolls were only tasty one for me. Not sure why the gyoza dry and cold. The reason I chose Zake was because we came from the moon festival at Katy Mills and decided to get some real food at Katy Asian Town. We got here at 8:45 pm. All other restaurants were closing soon or already closed. Ugh. Not making the same mistake again. Next time, we'll just go eat at Jack in the Box. read more

I came here back in July when I was in the area checking out Katy Asia Town with my boyfriend and we both were hungry. With it being so hot in Texas, we decided to look for something light and cool and Sushi sounded perfect! When We came in, we were greeted with a host and he escorted us to a booth on the side of the restaurant and provided us menus. A waitress came by about 10 minutes later to ask what we'd like to drink and if we were ready to order. We decided to order some edamame and calamari first as an appetizer. Once we finished our appetizers, the waitress came back and asked if we were ready to place our entree order and we both ordered some rolls and handrolls. Once the sushi came out, it looked really good and I also asked her for water refill because my water cup was empty but she never came by. We actually couldn't find her on the floor where we were sitting but we saw one other server walking around. Finally when a gentleman (maybe manager) came by to see how we were doing, I asked him for water and the bill which he told the waitress we were ready for our bill and she brought it over. Overall the food was good, service could have been alittle better with the lack of checking up on our table but not sure if the waitress was maybe in the middle of something? They weren't busy so I can't say she had a ton of tables when there were only 4 others and someone was already taking care of people at the bar. read more

I wish I could give this spot a 2.5 because it really was middle of the road for me but it felt more honest to round down rather than up. I came here after a volleyball game with my friends, so it was around 10 PM. There were six of us and they sat us behind a white barrier wall that sort of separated us from the rest of the restaurant . It definitely felt like they forgot about us because they never came around to our table and we had to repeatedly go up to the counter to ask for water refills. They also didn't bring out two of our meals for 40+ minutes after we ordered, and we had to ask where they were for them to be brought out to us. That being said, I enjoyed the food we got. I got the Houston roll and it was delicious. I also really liked the spicy edamame. I also got the black garlic ramen and enjoyed it but my friend got the tonkotsu ramen and said it was super bland. read more

I was in the mood for ramen and wanted to grab food in the area since we have not since moving. Upon walking in we were greeted and the hostess said "Hi can I help you" my sister looked confused and said "yes we want to eat". From behind I said a table for 3. Saying this because I thought is was funny, but also says certain greetings are not always correct. Our waitress was nice, but you could tell she wanted you to know what you want, get in and get out. My sister and I ordered lemonade one strawberry and one mango those were the highlight of our meal. Our sushi was fine and main dishes as well. I ordered ramen as that is why we went. The seafood ramen was ok, but could have used a bit more flavor in the broth and my shrimp was over cooked. My sister said her teriyaki chicken bowl was lacking in flavor as well. My niece got the kids veggie rice to which she had us pick out all the veggies since they were bok choy, cabbage, and green onions. She had one carrot and was excited about the carrot until she ate it and did not like it at all. Once we picked out all the veggies she did eat the rice. One cool thing is they give you the plastic piece for kids to use chopsticks. All in all we will not be back, but glad we tried. read more

I ordered several pounds of crawfish and had to ask several times for napkins. Each time they would bring a couple napkins where as most crawfish joints will leave you a roll of paper towels. Definitely skip this place. Absolutely inedible. We came on a whim because most places were closing. Appetizer. Spicy edamame. Sauce was some chili oil stuff. No flavor besides the oil. Gross. Dish 1. Sizzling steak. Toughest meat we ever had and served on a bed of udon noodles. Noodles burnt onto the skillet and meat was on top so was not very sizzling. Covered in Some sauce. I'll keep this short. I've had the pleasure of eating at some of the best sushi restaurants in the world. Sushi in Japan is definitely my favorite and on another level. So this may be a bit harsh but again, I've been lucky to have had the chance to eat at the best of the best in terms of Japanese food and sushi. I can honestly say that I've gone to the way opposite side of the aforementioned spectrum of my sushi experiences. I feel it's my duty to let others know when I have a bad experience. The food here is just, well, dismal. There's nothing Japanese about this place except for the name. I honestly believe the sushi at the local Kroger is better. I know flavor and opinion of authenticity can be very subjective when it comes to any type of ethic food, but come on Zake, you have to do better than this. It's just shocking and bewildering how a restaurant can stay in business serving such low quality ingredients not to mention unauthentic tasting Japanese food. With so much competition and options for consumers, shame on you for exploiting the one thing you have going for your restaurant which is location. Which is why I assume you think this level of food quality is acceptable. I was a little sus when my Zake Special Ramen was served in about 5 minutes after I placed the order. This is an incredibly short amount of time to prepare a dish; they likely prepare this dish in advance and then heat it up before serving to customers. Thankfully, it still is an appetizing dish. The broth is still flavorful, and the pork belly is still fatty and tender. The seaweed paper and fish cakes add flavor and texture to the dish. My only complaint is that the shrimp isn't up to par with the rest of the ingredients. I think their prepare-the-dish-in-advance philosophy has hurt the shrimp the most. Where do I even start? The place was empty for a Saturday. I was surprised as getting a seat at the other eateries in the vicinity involves a long wait time. We went in and it was around 15 minute wait to get just water. Then another 20 minutes before getting in our apps. Knowing the wait was going to be ridiculous we would've waited for a seat elsewhere. The food was brought out Luke warm with cold center. The curry had potatoes and carrots that were undercooked, very unpleasant to bite into a crunchy potato. Came here for the well advertized sizzling pepper steak, since the dish is shown on four posters areound the glass windows. It came in a hot plate that I think is too small for the portion... things spill out as you try to cut your steak. This is a great concept but the execution needs revamping. My plate came out with the noodles on the bottom, two bok choy stems on side, steak and onions on top. There was no way of flipping this upside down to sizzle the steak! True, you can eat the meat as is, but you won't have the brown glaze, crispy edge on your steak! The noodles get overcooked from the hot plate, so this is having the opposite result. My suggestion is to serve the noodles on a separate plate and ket the strak sizzle as shoukd be. Then work on the meat quality. If this is your signature dish, make it with NY Strip or filet. This is a borderline 2 star review, but did 3 stars because there was great customer service and the food came out extremely fast. Outside of the customer service, the food is bland. The sushi rolls are borderline drowning in sauce to add flavor versus enhance the flavors of the food. The hot green tea was overdone and didn't taste good (disappointing because this is my go-to drink with sushi). Lastly, the spicy garlic edamame came with no flavor and burnt garlic. We took a chance based on the reviews we read and left disappointed. We will say, the food is not the worse we've ever had, it's edible we just know there better out there. read more

Warning I didn't try the food However I'm giving a review based on service received over the phone. I identified this place here on yelp and thought that it might be a cool location to try some Ramen for the first time there are not mini Ramen options and Katy especially not those open late, but I saw that this place still had about 1 hr until closing so I thought that I would order to go thenn rush and pick it up. Trying to figure out their menu and actually what Ramen options they have was a struggle, so I went ahead to try to order online to see if they spelled out the options, that feature to seem to not be available so I tried going directly through their website after fighting and struggling for many more minutes, I saw a note stating that it was not available yet as if this is a brand new restaurant still getting their website up and going, so although they promote online ordering, they're not allowing it through their website so as a last option, I just had to call them well when I called, they ended up hanging up in my face, but initially would not even tell me about the Ramen options because they were so busy trying to tell me that they were closed. At the time I thought I still had over 30 minutes before closing so I asked them what their hours were so that I could send an update to Yelp in case their hours have changed they confirmed the hours for me and they were in fact not yet closed. I understand it many different business entities have times that they shut down their kitchen to begin preparing for closing, but when I try to ask for clarity so that I could let all other visitors aware by leaving a note here I wanted to be sure of the scenario, where they closing early on that day? Is it a normal thing for their kitchen to close 30 minutes early? Does it close one hour early? Apparently God gotten on their nerves with my follow-up questions because they hung up in my face simply saying that they were close to me those type of scenarios is not the norm for business operations that's typically where some staff members are the one manager on staff simply want to go home early or as soon as possible I don't really have anything positive to say my folks are rude to customers but can't even really give any exact clarity on their business protocol, so that customers know what to expect for the future. read more
