Although this brand new sushi restaurant labels themselves as "All You Can Eat", don't mistake it for a buffet. Instead of cooking up a mass amount of food and leaving it out for a long period of time, letting whoever touch/cough/sneeze on it in any way they want, food is actually made for you as you order it. You can pretty much order however much you want and have all of it brought out to you freshly prepared. But the "order however much you want" comes with the catch of a 15% extra charge if you can't finish all your food. The inside of Sushi 9 is extremely spacious. Actually it's so spacious that it could probably fit a few more tables. Service was prompt and courteous, the waiter frequently came by and asked if we needed to place more orders. Food came out about 5 minutes after we order it. As for the quality of food, the sushi was relatively fresh, and the tempuras were exceptionally hot and crispy. They also had rice bowls, udon, ramen, and fried rice, each with options of beef, chicken, seafood, or eel, etc. We especially enjoyed the fried rice, which was very flavorful but not too saucy. The beef teriyaki that I had was cooked a nice medium rare which made it quite delightful as well. But do note that the grilled beef teriyaki (or chicken, eel, seafood, etc.) you order by itself is the exact same beef teriyaki they use for the ramen, udon, and rice bowl. Overall, the food was portioned in small sizes (sashimi thinly sliced, ramen and fried rice came in small bowls, etc.) which was nice since it allowed us to try out a various amount of dishes without wasting any food. Sushi 9 is definitely worth a trip out to Katy so you can judge them for yourself. read more

I've been eating out since my older son was 2 years old, now he's 16! My little baby boy is 2 yrs old now! They didn't even ask if he was eating.. which he didn't eat! But they charge us $3 for a 2 year old child! It's not about the $3, it's about being charge! Like really?? I don't give bad reviews, but this isn't right. No where that me or my family ever ate out at that they charge for a little 2 year old. He's NOT even a big kid (wish he was)! read more

Sushi 9 - BEING CHARGE FOR A LITTLE 2 year old that didn't even eat! Even if he ate, not right! - Sushi Bars Near Me - Katy, Texas

Finally got to try of this AYCE sushi buffet. To be honest, I'm not even sure why I thought this place was going to be out of the ball park kind of place. It's just your average low quality sushi place that gets the job done of filling you up. There is a 15% sub charge for excess food. Makes sense. They don't want food to be wasted. To make this simple, I'm going to do some pros and cons. Pros: 1. Service is excellent! The wait staff are constantly checking up on you to ensure you're getting what you need. In particular, the waitress I had was very persistent in having us order more food per the ones we've chosen. She was making sure we were getting enough. 2. My personal opinion, even though the rolls come in either 6 or 8 pieces, they are fairly small. I think that's pretty good because most rolls are fat and you get full easily. 3. Teriyaki beef was delicious!!!! The waitress warned us that it was a really small dish, so we ordered about 3 more, totaling up to 4 small dishes. It was so good. Beef was tender and the sauce was a great add on. 4. Sashimi was good and fresh, but TOO thin!!! Cons: 1. Wish the sashimi was thicker. 2. HIGHLY disappointed in the "fried scallops". My friend and I cut it in half and it was NOT a scallop!!! It was crab imitation meat!! We have eaten enough to know what crab imitation to know that what we ordered was NOT fried scallops. Extremely disappointed. 3. Food is of low quality. 4. Shrimp tempura is way battered. You're basically eating more batter than the actual shrimp. Sad. 5. The spring rolls that are fried which is BASICALLY fried rolls tasted like they came from a frozen package. I definitely know what REAL egg rolls taste like. I make them at home. 6. Edamame was flavorless. Not enough salt. Beans were way too hard. My friend and I had about 9 pieces of sushi left, but we were so full. Our waitress asked if we were done and if she could take our late. We panicked and said no, just so that we wouldn't get charged the 15% sub charge. I would just like to say that I was the real mvp for eating the rest AND dessert. I think I've said enough. I've eaten at a lot of sushi places and would prefer quality over quantity. I've also eaten enough to know what is fresh and what isn't. If you're the kind of person that would prefer quantity over quality, then Sushi 9 is your spot. However I won't be coming back. I got to experience, but I'd rather go back to Omakase style or a la carte. $15 for lunch and $25 for dinner. I would say that the lunch is reasonable but the dinner definitely NOT. read more

Fantastic spot for AYCE sushi! I found this gem pre-COVID era. Unlike many sushi buffets that existed at the time, Sushi 9 makes sushi to order so you don't have dried rice or soggy seaweed. The only thing is you have to be sure not to let your eyes get ahead of stomach, as they do charge a fee if you have a surplus of uneaten food. A few of my favorite things: Chicken fried rice, shrimp tempura, tempura potatoes, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, escolar, Sexy Girl roll read more

Quite bad sushi, to the point of being inedible. Fish carved out in big chunks, absolutely not delicate in presentation nor taste. Roll wit eel looked frankly disgusting. Big strips of eel with skin on, soiled in a gooey oyster sauce and wrapped around an ounce of rice with unripe avocado. Only positive, the sticky rice was sticky so they got that right. Would never buy from there again. read more

Sushi 9 - Something with eel - Sushi Bars Near Me - Katy, Texas

A three star rating is the highest I can give Sushi 9 considering it as an AYCE spot. It's all-you-can-eat, but not quite. I'm used to AYCE Japanese being either help yourself buffet line style or tick mark next to items you want and they will be delivered to your table without limit. This specific AYCE restaurant allows you to verbally order at your table with your party and servers deliver food items right to you. The interior is spacious and our party of five people were seated at a tabletop for six. Drinks are not included in the adult dinner price of $25 per person, not even hot tea. As we were deciding on what we should have for our first round, we noticed that the menu listed beef ribs (kalbi) as one order per person. What?! It was sketchy looking written with pen onto the menu page and we knew from previous visits that it was not the case. So after asking our server what it is all about, he informed us that yes, only one order of beef ribs are allowed per person. Wow...I'm used to AYCE for a few dollars less that is inclusive of basically everything this place has plus unlimited beef ribs and non-alcoholic drinks. Okay, so we ordered platters of sushi (salmon, tuna, yellowtail nigiri) and sashimi (super small and non-aesthetic chunks of salmon, tuna, escolar, yellowtail, surf clam) including special rolls (spider roll, dragon roll), seaweed salad, chicken wings, shrimp tempura, fried tofu, fried squid (ring shaped), shumai, beef ribs (one order apparently means 3 pieces only), crab puffs (no crab taste just cream cheese), crabmeat tempura (imitation kani), curry beef (deep fried cutlet with curry sauce), pork cutlet (deep fried), salmon teriyaki (two thin slices of fish), and both hamachi and salmon cama, which didn't get to our table until we were finishing up our dessert and waiting for the check. Actually, our server told us the kitchen forgot about it and we could get dessert so that's what we did and then another server came to the table with it but we didn't want it by then. We had red bean and green tea ice cream to end our AYCE meal. The green tea ice cream was better than the red bean IMO as the flavor was on point and not the light and sweet version but rather bold and creamy. For $25 bucks per head, it really wasn't worth it. I wasn't expecting a lot as far as quality of the fish or cuts of meat, but come on. I thought the AYCE back home was bad but after this, I can say I miss it. Oh, almost forgot to say that two of the five persons in my party opted out of the AYCE but ordered separate entrees. One fried rice dish and one udon. Even the egg in the udon was not pleasing...super overcooked...see photos for more. Guess I will be sticking to other spots for better deals unless I hear things have drastically changed. More like a 2.5 but rounded to a 3= me being generous. read more

Great sushi. The ambiance is very nice. Staff is attentive and kind. Dumplings are amazing!

The service was good. The quality of the food was not good. I would not return even if it was free. The sushi from Krogers is better. You should order a salmon sashimi and a salmon sushi and then place the sashimi on top of the sushi so the fish will be thicker. Jiro (from Jiro dreams of sushi) would be so disappointed in everyone who was called a sushi chef. I am surprised it had a high rating on Yelp. read more

Just to be clear, you don't come to Sushi9 to get the best quality fish. Your fish will taste fishy, there will be weird cuts, and the sushi rolls will not be the best you've had. They will try to cut corners by stuffing your rolls with rice/cucumbers, using lower quality fish, giving you rice to fill you up, etc. That being said, there is a way to leave full and happy at an AYCE sushi place like this, and I have tried many menu items to tell you what to get and what to avoid. The curry chicken don is actually really good, and I always get this. Get the short rib, they do make it pretty sugary, but still good. For sashimi/sushi, I recommend the escolar as a safe bet (it's a pretty fatty and yummy fish). The salmon and other fishes tend to taste fishy instead of fresh. The rolls are all pretty standard, just pick whatever you want to have in your roll (rolls with tempura shrimp in it are a good bet). Avoid: Flying fish egg salad (sounds fancy, but is very saucy) Ika Sansai (squid salad, tastes weird) Rolls with cucumber in it (they will fill up half the roll with this) You can skip the udon/ramen/rice dishes if you want to get the best bang for your buck. Fill up on fish and meat instead. You can get better udon/ramen/rice dishes at non AYCE places, and they do tend to be very filling. read more

4 stars for the food and plus 1 star for the price!!! $25 per person for unlimited sashimi, sushi and others is a great price! Yet they are all good, definitely not buffet quality. We ordered a lot but here are the highlight: All of the sashimi ( my favs are salmon and escolar) Ika sansai Seaweed salad Beef teriyaki Beef/seafood ramen Beef/seafood udon Fried rice Green tea ice-cream Tempura dishes and sushi rolls were alright. Great customer service!! All of the waitresses were very nice and attentive. They do not give you 'that' face when you ordered more food. We also asked them to put our rolls on the boat and they agreed. P.S: don't forget to ask for dumpling soy sauce. It is really good. I mixed it with the regular soy sauce. And Yes, I will definitely come back!!! read more

Sushi 9 - We were wowed; for starters, we steer clear of sushi buffets, or any and all types of buffets for that matter. What is unique about this restaurant is that the all you can eat has never been buffet style (where food sits out and people grab it from a central location.) This place, even Pre-Covid, has been making it fresh and bringing it to the table as you order. So, at Sushi 9,if you have not tried a certain type of sushi/sashimi there is the possibility to order as few as just one, (of course for certain items.) Sushi 9 does not skimp on ingredients, so you will not get overloaded with rice and they definitely don't skimp on service. This restaurant got a five star because we received excellent value for the price range. Check out the presentation photos below. read more

Fantastic service, fantastic sushi! You would think that having "unlimited sushi" downgrades the quality of the food, but nope, not even a little. The fish tastes so fresh, and the rolls are amazing. I also have to mention their buy two get one free glasses of red wine! HECK YES. I just had this place yesterday, for the second time, and I'm already craving it again. It's about a 40m drive from my house, and absolutely worth it. MUST TRY! read more

This place is a great bang for your buck type of place! They have lunch and dinner times and AYCE sushi! you can literally sit there for as long as you want and order whatever you want. I came here a few days ago and they had sanitizer sprays for you to use before you come inside and i'm not sure if they're enforcing strict social distancing because whenever I went there was only one other couple there. The employees wore masks and gloves as well. The sushi is pretty good for the price and worth your money if you eat a lot! read more

I like the way AYCE here do. They served everything little. That's help us to try different dishes. Service is great, too. The young lady who served our table the night is friendly and helpful with her smile on her face all the time. Not like the host, we came on Wednesday night seeing no host, we waited and she came out no smile at all. No welcome no bye :)) I wish I have Hamachi Kama like my friend told me in AYCE, but Salmon Kama is good as well. read more

Closest AYCE sushi spot I could find near Houston and I'm glad I made it. Affordable price with great selections. Options are less than what you'd see at other AYCE joints, but I can't complain. Favorites were the Philadelphia Roll, Spicy Tuna sushi, and green tea ice cream. Some special rolls weren't available during lunch, so drop by during dinner for more options. read more

We were a party of 11, made reservations and were seated upon arrival. The atmosphere and staff were prompt and friendly. Soup was served when we sat down and we were not expecting it. It was good. Several other large parties came in right after us and I assume that backed up the kitchen. Our original order came out prompt and all of it looked and tasted great! 2 people ordered additional sushi rolls and those two rolls took about 45 mins to come out, which by then they didn't want the rolls anymore because we were all tired of being there but that would be my only complaint. We will go back, it was very good, and we will recommend it. read more

I wanted to give this place 1 star, but ultimately decided 2 stars because of the great service. Our waiter ran back and forth over a dozen times. He never missed an order and never got upset/impatient at us for it. I made a few unusual requests that he didn't think he could do, but he made the effort behind the scenes anyway. Some if the portions were a bit small/thin, the sashimi especially. This had a negative impact on most of my party, who were not impressed. Some of the tempura fried things were not fully fried, leaving an oily squishy feeling. The one thing I could not excuse was the wetness of the sushi. Almost every sushi roll with cucumber in it had way too much of it and they were wet. Like washed and then rolled in wet. I kept being disgusted by the almost slimy feel. Flavorwise, the sushi was a little below par. I did like the snow crab on top of see of the sushi, though. My party did enjoyed the short ribs and ordered several rounds. They also liked the rolls much better than the sushi, especially the unagi ones. I would highly suggest not getting the dons or the ramens. They were flavorless. I mean like flavorless to the point that I didn't finish my one sip of the ramen broth. Lastly, if you care about presentation, the sushi, rolls, etc kinda looked sloppily made. The main idea is that this place had good service, but the food was not great quality, and out of the 6 people, none plan to come back again. read more

I recommend Sushi 9 when you have been fasting all day and you're ready to eat your $28 worth of sushi rolls. The menu is quite elaborate and offers so many great options so you can try as many rolls as you can handle. Definitely recommend all of these that I ordered. Also ordered a Hamachi Kama which apparently they only allow 1 order per table and not per person like the menu said (weird?) and took over 35 minutes to get to the table on a slow night, but it turned out not good enough to be fighting over anyways. read more

We've tried this place twice now. The first on a Wednesday, then a second time on a Friday. It's an 'all you can eat' sushi restaurant. Dinner is $25.99 and it includes the ENTIRE menu. Everything...sashimi, nigiri, rolls, all appys, hot food, soups, desserts, literally everything on the menu. The restaurant is bright and open with plenty of tables and booths. We had different servers each time and both we very nice and quick to respond to our group. However, if Yong is working sit in his section, he's EXCELLENT. Some have complained about the delay in orders being brought to your table. We had no issues on the Wednesday visit when the restaurant was slow on guests. The Friday visit was a different story with longer delays for our orders. However, the restaurant was pretty close to full on the Friday. We realized the delay on our second round of rolls and decided to just order round three immediately. This worked perfectly, as the third round arrived just as we finished round two. On the second visit, we added some new members to the group who doubted the quality and value of the restaurant. Those doubters (you know who you are) quickly became believers when they saw and tasted the first round of rolls. We've hit the menu pretty hard and it's thumbs up all around. Peppered Tuna Tataki - FANTASTIC. Actually created a mini chopsticks war over the last piece. #9 roll - Sooo good. Must try Poke Don - very good New York New York roll - very good Spicy roll - excellent (very thin layer of rice around roll) I could go on and on, but I'll just include pix for your viewing. We will continue to frequent this location as the sushi is very good and the deal can't be beat. read more

This is a nice addition to the Mason Road area of Katy. In fact the plaza also has a few small restaurant gems worth trying. Sushi 9 is not Japanese, at least I don't think so, but neither are most Japanese restaurants in Houston. That stated, they offer a nice selection of Japanese and Asian style dishes like sushi, pot stickers and tempura. The deal is all you can eat for a reasonable price.
