I've never been to a AYCE sushi so for Lent, we headed here to try it out. On our first visit, we had a male waiter, he was very attentive and quick. We had such a great experience that we went back the following Friday with our nephew. The second time around, we unfortunately got a female waitress. Service was ok but not as great like we had with the male waiter. Because this was our second time back, we knew what to order and not to order. This time around, we have three people so we asked for all the regular rolls and it came out one of each so we still have the chance to order special rolls. We try everything in all the categories on the menu. It's easier for me to point out what we didn't care for much but it might be someone else's favorite so this is entirely my opinion, the Sushi Pizzas tasted more breaded and no fillings, the curry chicken I ordered by mistake but still had to consume it was ok but not great, squid tempura and handrolls. The AYCE sushi price is very reasonable and well worth it. On our second time coming, they just started a loyalty program where you can sign up and get points. read more

This is a great place for all you can eat sushi. I would recommend going in a group of 4+ so that you are able to try more dishes without having to fill up on just one or two rolls. Their menu offers a variety of options, from sashimi to rolls to udon/ramen and so forth. Rolls: My group ordered 12 different rolls and they were all delicious. The rice to fish proportion was ideal and they didn't drench the rolls in too much sauce. Sashimi: we ordered tuna, escolar, yellowtail, and salmon. All of fish tasted fresh and not frozen. Sashimi slices are a little smaller than what you usually get at a sushi restaurant so don't worry about ordering too much. I tried the seafood ramen and would rank it maybe a 2/5. The broth was bland but the ramen was cooked well. We tried the seaweed salad (pretty good), coconut shrimp (I thought it was just okay but the rest of my table enjoyed it enough to order a second round), edamame (good), and fried tofu (good responses but I did not try it). THE BEST SUSHI IN KATY BY FAR! Everything on the menu is delicious and the A.Y.C.E. (All You Can Eat) is a the best deal in town. It's a must try and I really mean it, you gotta try this place out. The service is always impeccable, they never fail and are one of the best in serving their customers. The restaurant is always clean, the water is filtered and even the ice is clear. Highly recommend the beef ramen, Shaggy Dog sushi roll, San Antonio sushi roll, and the ice cream. Christmas Eve dinner with the family. An excellent place for all-you-can (AYC). I have to start this review with the service. The person who waited on us was terrific. He did not get anything wrong or missing. And believe me, we had a lot to order, from ramen to the specialty (tiger, dragon, shaggy dog) sushi, sashimi, and a lot more. The only the ok ing we weren't fond of was the veggie tempura - it didn't have much flavor. We each ate $34 of AYC grub. This is a bizarre restaurant. The first thing I noticed was an employee washing their hair in the restroom sink. Then, a rude waiter walked away before I even finished ordering. Next, I saw a clump of long feathers on the fried chicken wings (photo posted), which instantly ruined my appetite. Sushi 9 is our favorite place to get sushi in Katy! This is a great spot for delicious, affordable all you can eat sushi. For an appetizer, we usually start with tempura - my favorites here are the shrimp & taro. Like at other AYCE sushi places, I would suggest saving most of the rolls for later on to avoid filling up too quickly. I usually start with the spicy salmon, red tuna, & spicy tuna. They have so many great rolls to choose from! I also really like the pork dumplings. For dessert, they have 4 flavors of ice cream - vanilla, strawberry, red bean, & green tea. We had lunch here today, and it was great! I thought it was a really great deal for all you can eat sushi. The service was friendly, and surprisingly quick. We started with shrimp fried rice, tempura mushrooms, tempura shrimp, and crab puffs. Everything came out hot and tasty. Next we had a spicy tuna roll, Boston roll, and Philadelphia roll, I really liked their spicy tuna. Finally, we had the sexy girl roll, two spicy tuna hand rolls, eel fried rice that the waiter recommended, the sushi pizza-which was super heavy, so I would order this at the very beginning if you are going to try it, and my husband got some more of the tempura mushrooms. We liked everything we tried, and we left super full. It was a bit of a drive for us, but we agreed that we will be returning. If you are super hungry and in the mood for sushi, this is the place! ***Also, on our ride home my husband mentioned seeing something on the menu that I had not seen, but it sounded like something he had come up with bizarrely, so I made a bet with him that no such thing existed, but when we came home, he pulled up the online menu, and sure enough I had lost the bet. The food is not bad for made to order to sushi. The all you can eat price is comparable to Taizzi, although Taizzi is a little more expensive but taste better in my opinion. The service is great! The one star review is the reward card. Last time I came, they won't take my reward card, therefore they had to give me a new reward card and they refuse to load my current visit. All in all, I lost 60 dollars of rewards on the reward card which is equivalent to 600 dollars of paid visit by me. I plan to go to sushi 9 only when I really need to. read more

Its unfortunately that I never had a chance to post a positive review for Sushi9. This was my first/favorite sushi buffet in Houston. I even celebrated my birthday there. It's sad to say that I will not be coming back anymore. While there were many reasons to this, I'll share the most critical one. In the past, each visit, Sushi 9 would have beef short ribs and sometimes they may have different Cama's. Also, in the past, the price were around $24.99. Few visits ago, the price was $29.99, and my current visit was $30.99. I totally understand inflation and price being higher. What disappointed me the most was that the quality went downhill. Not only that, Sushi9 never have Beef Short ribs anymore. While I understand it stated on the menu that it's a "seasonal item." I call it bullshit. Each visit I had at Sushi 9, the server told me straight up, "nope we dont have it." What made my current visit experience worst was when I've asked about the Cama. The server, I quote "I don't know if we have Cama's. The kitchen is super busy, I can put in the order and if the kitchen have it, they will bring it out." I follow up with my server a few times about the Camas. Nevertheless, I never received the Hamachi Cama or the Salmon Cama. What about everything else you asked? Downhill. The Sashimi, especially the Tuna, tasted it like it was bleached. The rolls and hand rolls does not have fresh fish ingredients. The one I received were mixed, marinated. Pokebowl was filled with rice and 5 - 6 pieces of scrap proteins. While the server have a tablet to input orders. Many items were not received or incorrect. Probably the "busy kitchen" I assume. Either way, the list goes on and on... In conclusion, this was my final straw for Sushi9. I wish the restaurant the best. They do have the best Pepper Tuna Tataki. read more

I rate this 4 stars of ur of 5 simply because of the comforting feeling of the environment and the huge food menu. I give props for having such a selection from ramen, from nigiri to sushi pizza, or even grilled salmon teriyaki (which was dry lol). I also rate it a 4 out of 5 because of the lack of presentation. I"m a fan of this place for the friendly service, large menu for All You Can Eat (AYCE), and decent / average sushi. For the price you are paying for AYCE, you definitely get your monies worth. Food: I came with a large group for dinner, and we all did the AYCE for $24.99 per person. We ordered lots of sashimi, pretty much half the sushi rolls, fried rice, miso soup, tempura, seaweed salad, dumplings, and beef short rib. We pretty much took a tour of the entire menu. Sushi was average comparable to sushi from Kroger, Randalls, or the food court. Fried rice was average too similar to fast food fried rice. Recommendations: Here are my recommendations on food to stick with: - Sashimi all day specifically salmon and tuna - Beef short ribs. These were pretty tasty - Eel fried rice - Sexy Girl Roll or any roll where there's mostly raw fish and protein ingredients like spicy tuna and imitation crab. If not, then there could be too much rice, which means it's too filling -Spicy tuna hand roll but just one. These were a bit filling -Look out for specials!!! They sometimes have $2.99 Domestic Bee AYCE or AYCD. Wine can be buy 2, get 3rd free Parking: This is located in a shopping center with shared parking. There's plenty of spots. Parking space can be limited, depending on the day and time you go. Drove pass this restaurant multiple of times and finally came here with my brother on a Saturday night. Parking spaces are decent. Not many competitive restaurants within this plaza for Saturday night so no need to be fighting over a parking spot. Time to order. Lovely presentation. The food on the either side had high highs and very low lows. Good news first, 2/5 sushi rolls were delicious. The Shaggy Dog & Tempura I would highly recommend, I'm really glad they gave us an abundance of both. The Philadelphia was not too bad, the other two were awful. This was maybe my 6th trip to sushi 9. As someone who constantly craves sushi this place satisfies my cravings and more. The staff here and very friendly and helpful. I love getting yellow tail sashimi and having that as a small appetizer. My fiancé isn't that into it so this trip we stuck with "safe choices". My personal favorites are the Boston Roll, and the rainbow roll. The Boston roll has wasabi infused beads that really gives the sushi a lovely flavor. The rainbow roll is also a gorgeous choice. It tastes very fresh and light and is delicious. A gentle reminder come hungry, but be patient. They have a regular menu, but most people come for the AYCE. Just be sure to remember this is not a buffet. It's all you can eat, and all of the rolls are made fresh to order so there's a bit of a wait. If you aren't a fan of sushi they also have plenty of hot items. A good one to try is the chicken curry/cutlet. Super good. Lunch was 17.99 and the food was honestly average and disappointing. All the fried food was drenched in cooking oil so I dabbed the food with napkins just to get rid of it, seriously unhealthy lol. But regardless, we ordered tons of sushi plates and we enjoyed like 1/4 orders the rest tasted average and bleh. Complete opposite freshness as the first time. Came tonight for my birthday dinner for AYCE and was pretty disappointed in the lack of items on the AYCE menu. So instead of AYCE, I opted to order my usual 2 special rolls. We normally only ever get take out and their special, that we order every time, is BOGO special rolls. So tell me why that special doesn't apply to sit down or, at the very least, why that isn't indicated anywhere on the menu. For four rolls (2 for me, 2 for my boyfriend) it was over $70 when normally it's $35. I'm pretty annoyed that a restaurant we order from 2-3 times a month charges an extra $35 to sit in the restaurant. If I would've known before the bill came, we would have had them pack up the rolls we ordered into a to-go box so we could eat in the comfort of our own home with an extra $35 in our pockets. It's disappointing because we will never eat inside the restaurant again. It takes away tip opportunities from their waitstaff, who did a good job serving us. It was just a sour experience, especially when I went into the night thinking I could count on them to help me celebrate my birthday right. read more

TL;DR: All you can eat sushi. There are only a few places to get it in Houston, and this place delivers pretty standard quality fish, as well as some decent cooked food items as well, for only 20$ at lunch or 25$ for dinner. Sushi 9 pales in comparison to any respectable AYCE sushi place in California, but if you realize that the sushi scene in Houston is a few (or more than a few) tiers below LA, you have to give credit to Sushi 9 for offering at least a decent option for ravenous sushi lovers like myself. I came for dinner on a Saturday, and for $26, you get a good selection of nigiri, sashimi, rolls, and some cooked food, including some beef short rib. The fish here is of decent quality, and they don't attempt to stuff absurd amounts of rice into each roll or piece of nigiri. If I had to say one thing about the fish itself, it's that it all seems a little soft for some reason, but it's not off putting in a way that makes me not want to eat enough to try to put this place out of business. One particularly good item was the tuna tataki, which is simply some tuna sashimi crusted in black pepper laid in some ponzu-like dressing. The salmon sashimi here is probably my most highly recommended item from the raw selection, though they tend to cut sashimi here into extremely small pieces (however many regular sized pieces you actually want, multiply it by 3 and order that number instead). Most of the rolls were solid, too, but nothing special. The yellowtail, unfortunately, had a very distinct funk that wasn't too strong, but made me wary of ordering any more. Cooked food standouts include the Short rib (limit 1 order per person) and the beef sirloin. The pork Katsu was surprisingly quite good as well. Overall Sushi 9 is a decent addition to the Houston food scene for those who are willing to drop 25 dollars and consume mass quantities of raw fish. But if you're looking for a place just to grab a couple rolls for lunch, I'd stay away and go to another one of the great restaurants in Katy. read more

Quite bad sushi, to the point of being inedible. Fish carved out in big chunks, absolutely not delicate in presentation nor taste. Roll wit eel looked frankly disgusting. Big strips of eel with skin on, soiled in a gooey oyster sauce and wrapped around an ounce of rice with unripe avocado. Only positive, the sticky rice was sticky so they got that right.
