So I have to be honest, I've been coming here since the 90's and all I can say is as of 9/6/26, I will never come back. The home good feeling of this establishment has lost its flair a few years ago when the grandfather/dad passed away and now the what I think son in law has been running it and just has been slowly going down. I just want to note that I had to go ham my last time here with my Togo order because I'm never coming back. How has it gone down in quality you ask? Here's how: - pay for every side when it use to be included in the dine in price. - 2 trips per person, when it was all you can eat. - Signs everywhere distinguishing between dinner, lunch, and weekend price when it use to be a flat rate of dinner & lunch. - Weigh out food for dine out and charge by the pound, when you could just take out. It's another $5-$6 per person, fyi. - Wait staff vulture over while you make your bowls and don't give space. - You have to pay for the soft serve ice cream cone that you be to include. - The son in law creeps and constantly talks to you and walks you through everything as if you haven't been there. By him stopping everyone it takes too long for you to get your food. - PRO: I appreciate the transparency on the to go weight by the pound notice. Food is great and fresh! Every time we go here I'm always impressed by the cleanliness. This place is more of a you choose what you want (meat/veggies), take it to the grill (someone cooks it for you) and bring it back to the table with you to eat. It's more of a self serve place. Egg rolls are made to order and they have some other items that you can order. So please to ask them about it. They have an awesome soft serve ice cream machine. The flavor is vanilla and super delicious. Usually people know about this place by word of mouth or if you're a Santa Clara resident! For super strict vegetarians keep in mind that they don't have a separate grill for cooking vegetables but they might accommodate and cook it in their kitchen on a separate skillet. Walking in a lady was friendly ask we dining there, she then was trying to walk us through since we had asked to go. She kept saying 2 plates, but her English was very difficult to understand, however she was super sweet and nice. At the end we just did what other people were doing. Okay so the way it works if it's to go order, you can get 1 bowl for meat and veggies and another for noodles. On the other side you add sauces, then ending with cooks cooking it. You do have to tell them if you taking to go. Price if it's to go you pay by weight so be careful with noodles if you don't want pay that much. It's close to $16/lb. Actually not that bad for a plate. The place has decent amounts of tables and chairs and doesn't feel too crowded. Although place does need some updating decor or something just looks very old inside. Put the meats in the bowl, smash them down, add noodles if you want. In second bowl add all your veggies. Go to the back side and make your custom sauce, or use their recipe which is posted (vinegar, garlic, soy sauce, ginger etc). You then give it to the guys who cook everything on a huge hot grill and return your food into one big bowl. We love this place! The service is outstanding. We always go here to celebrate someone's birthday or a special occasion. It's fun to pick your own items and have them cook everything for you. I love noodles but I try to stay away from them these days so I like that I can simply get a bowl of meat and a bowl of veggies to make a delicious, healthy stir fry. This last visit I used their sauce recipe hanging up on the wall and it worked perfectly. My dish was perfectly seasoned and tasty. It's probably not worth coming if you're only getting one go-through especially if you're not getting noodles like me because it's a bit pricey in that regard. But most of the people in our group went through for a second time and everyone had noodles so they got their money's worth. It would be great if they had a soda fountain machine and drinks were included in the price. But that's okay. We will still continue to visit. read more

Unfortunately, my last visit. This place use to be the go to spot and I get inflation, but I would think quality would go with it if the price increased. Noodles were tough and the sauces were super watered down. They charged my 4 year old daughter and said she was taller than 4 feet, but we went to eat at another place later that evening and she was not even close. There's no more side dishes and the ice cream cone was stale af, not sure how long it is there for. 2 adults and 2 children age 4&7 came out to be $100. This was my favorite Mongolian BBQ spot for a number of years. The food was always great and always seemed to taste better than other similar joints. They have changed their prices a few times recently, which I understand due to the economic climate, but it has become unaffordable to eat there. You used to be able to get a to-go container for the same price as the "all you can eat" dinner. They raised that price a bit ago, and then recently they started charging to-go by weight. I used to be able to fill up a to-go box and make a couple meals out of it, but now that same to-go box is likely $40-$50+ for noodles, veggies, and a little bit of meat and sauce. Also, I noticed the last few times I went that I was "supervised" while filling my bowls. A member of the staff is always watching while you go through the line, which is a little unpleasant. Most of us had never had Mongolian bbq before, but there were several friendly and helpful employees there to give us tips (add in way more meat than you think and really smash it down to make room for other add-ins, everything REALLY shrinks down). The restaurant is all-you-can-eat and you are allowed to go for two rounds, but I only ended up doing one because it was really filling! We were also there with some vegetarians who appreciated the tofu option. The staff there was EXCELLENT. They came over and checked on us several times. Randomly, they also have really great water, which one of the people working there told us is because they make sure to clean their ice machine. The family-owned restaurant has been in business for over 30 years and really enjoyed talking with the owner. You get to fill two bowls of ingredients at the raw food stations, and then make your own sauce afterwards to give to the chefs to cook. Since it was our first time, the recommended sauce list was very helpful but I would even add a half scoop less of the soy sauce because it's that potent. Outside of the soysauce the rest of the ingredients made for a tasty meal once cooked. The funny thing about trying to review Mongolian BBQ restaurants is that if you don't like the food, it's honestly on you. You pick every item that goes into your dish, down to the exact ratio of different liquids in the sauce so if you are unhappy with your final product, you only have yourself to blame. With that in mind, this review will focus less on the food and more on the other aspects that combine to form the overall dining experience. To begin, Su's Mongolian BBQ has all the charm of an industrial kitchen, which is to say not a lot. The sterile, undecorated interior pairs with the harsh fluorescent lights and imposing steel refrigerators to send a message that while you may be allowed here, you are not necessarily welcomed. The ingredient station where you build your bowl is incredibly small, so small that on first glance I thought I must be missing something. As a result, the diversity of ingredients is pretty limited but they do hit all the must-haves of Mongolian BBQ. It's not all you can eat, but rather all you can grab in two trips through the line. It doesn't make much of a difference though because if you are strategic about it you can fit quite a lot of food in one trip. You would probably be hard-pressed to find someone who could eat two full bowls that had been filled to the max. Most people will probably be satisfied with just a single trip through the line, but at that point you feel like you are leaving money on the table, and the $22 lunch suddenly feels like less of a deal. If you are a person whose stomach knows no bounds you are going to get your money's worth here but if you aren't, it's a little tougher to feel good about the price you are paying. It's a family-owned restaurant, and they also have another location (MP BBQ). Every time we come in, we're greeted with a warm smile and welcoming attitude. When you walk in, you grab a tray and two bowls. You can fill each bowl however you like but I usually do one for noodles and one for toppings. They also have a rice cooker if you prefer rice over noodles. For protein, they offer shrimp, pork, lamb, beef, and chicken. Topping-wise, they've got the basics like carrots, onions, broccoli, pineapple, lettuce, mushrooms, etc. I do wish they had a wider variety of veggies tho. I've even suggested to the owner that baby corn or bell peppers (green, red, or both) would be great additions. Even with a somewhat limited topping selection, they really make up for it with their sauces and seasonings. You can truly customize the flavor of your plate however you want. One standout for me is the liquid sugar. It's just something I haven't seen at other Mongolian BBQ spots. It adds sweetness and depth of flavor and it honestly helps balance out the soy sauce (if you add soy sauce). Overall, it's a spot we keep coming back to, and for good reason. Su's is a gem. The food and service are truly 5 stars, honestly a 10/10. The only thing holding it back from a full 5 for me is the interior ambiance. If the space were a bit nicer or more updated, this would easily be a perfect score. The parking lot is also tiny, but there's street parking nearby. From our very first visit, the staff was incredibly welcoming and gave us a full rundown of how everything works, plus complimentary egg rolls, which was such a nice touch. I love that you get to customize what's included and that there are so many combinations to choose from. The food is always incredible, fresh, and consistently delicious. I filled my 2 bowls and proceeded to the sauce area where I had to mix my own sauce with all the individual ingredients. There was a printed recipe to follow. The basic sauce should be pre-made for beginners. The cooking was fast and the flavors were very good! 2 trips to the buffet are allowed which was plenty of food, leaving me very full. Soft serve ice cream with chocolate drizzle was included with the meal! I nice surprise. The interior decorations are strange and the ambiance doesn't match the theme of Mongolian BBQ. True hidden gem in Santa Clara. First time coming to a Mongolian place and it was a great experience! First timers it will be hard to choose what you want cooked considering the number of items and selections there are. Good thing about this place is they have a recommendation list if you are unsure of what to add. It does get busy during lunch time but overall time goes by fast in line. You have bowls in a tray and have the ability to stack it up with as much items as you want. Mind you, that the meat does shrink and there is an extra charge for shrimp. Absolutely love that they have Lamb as an option! I have to give Paul the manager of the place a huge shoutout! Provides such warm welcome to all his customers and treats you like family! Hovering owner, stay home! This past weekend we visited Su's for what was supposed to be a nice birthday dinner. We had 18 people, got accommodated, started our plates then here comes who I assume is the owner. "Have you been here before? Yes, we have." We finally get up to the counter where the two cooks take the food to cook and there he is. "You said you've been here before. You leave your bowls there then you need to move over." Not friendly whatsoever, just rude and as noted above, hovering. I put two bowls down on the counter and tell the cooks that it's two plates, not one, and they still cook them together and put them in one large bowl. I then have to grab an extra bowl on the side to separate the food that now has everything I had separate. As I'm doing that, hovering owner is walking up first off to tell me that I can't sit where I'm at. The tables they accommodated for our large party were full so my family of four sat right next to the party. Followed by, "You can't share food, we're going to have to charge you for two bowls." Yes, I have been there so I knew that which is how I responded. Then shared that my two bowls were asked to be cooked separately but they still ended up in one bowl. Also, how can you not know that rule, there are signs everywhere. We're finally finishing off and just sit down to eat our ice cream when we get approached again. "We're going to need your table soon. We're not asking you to leave but we have a large party coming in and will need your table to fit them." How is that not asking me to leave? I'm still eating, socializing with my family but I'll need to hurry it up so you can accommodate another large group for your big bucks. That's what Su's has become. A place where the customer service is condescending and the large groups take priority. Only not ours. So thank you Su's for the good times before it was taken over by hovering owner.
