I couldn't returned my vinyl floor just because the box opened ( the box not even damaged). Luckily I bought just one box, That just ONLY ONE BOX. I had a wonderful experience with BSM with Mac as well as Paris. I have searched awhile and was going to get one type of flooring but upon discussing with Mac he was pretty awesome in saying that I should go with another version that was about less than half the cost. The installation charges were also just fine and I had no problems. I was a bit annoyed by how much waste the installers had at the end of the day as I had to go back and buy more baseboards....and I only had one box and two planks left of the flooring. There was quite a few broken pieces and waste in flooring they had left over. Otherwise though the team did a great job over a couple days and installed this vinyl flooring throughout! Including storage closets. I did all the demo myself. Second part of this install is Paris who helped me out with choosing a countertop I fell in love with. Pricing was a hell of a lot better than a big box store and gave me excellent attention and support throughout the process....she even came out when a sink I chose wasn't available to measure to ensure a secondary sink would fit in the cabinet! Top notch service! In total for my renovation I spent around 6K for the countertops and flooring which is a heck of a deal honestly. Mahalo for the great floor and countertops! read more

We have used Surplus a lot in the past 2 years to purchase tiles, hardware and fixtures. However, I recently purchased from them and was caught off guard by how I was spoken to over the phone. The man speaking to me was very disrespectful and rude, and he hung up on me while I was talking. It left a bad taste for me for the store as a whole, and will unfortunately no longer be going to them or giving them anymore business. I was so excited when I received this door, the disappointment was pending however. The door comes with protection on the panes so you can paint it and since our renovation took 2 months to complete we recently painted the doors and took off the protection. We found that the pre-hung doors were manufactured incorrectly. One door has the film side facing out and the other door has the shiny glass side facing out. After a few emails with customer service, I was informed that since 2 months passed, they would not send another door. I only wanted one side by the way. They offered a small credit (compared to the door cost), which will not even cover the film guy that I will have to hire to fix. So, my lesson for the day is to not buy from them again and the lesson in this review is to take off the protection immediatly after receiving your door to make sure it's correct. read more

This is a great business! Like other stores, you have different price points available there. We purchased custom cabinetry and hardware there at a great price from Fernando. He provided excellent service, coming to our home far from their location to take accurate measurements. The J&K Cabinetry is EXCELLENT and far better priced than places we looked at. Fernando's installers ended up doing our whole kitchen and it turned out so great, we've hired them to do our master bath/closet. There are cheap products at SBM also, but great deals on quality items, too. read more

Surplus building material farmers branch installed the product https://www.lwflooring.com/moonstone-creek.html by end of July 2019. We installed around 3200 Sq.ft which is the whole house including kitchen, bathroom etc. Background - I had been shopping for flooring for couple of months. I had carpet, bamboo, laminate and tiles. My intention was to replace everything with one product, so I selected vinyl planks. I am not sure whether I made the right choice or not after using it for many months now. My bamboo was installed by an individual. He did not flatten the floor well, so after installing, we found that there were many places with hallow sound while walking. Installer came and injected glue, which made some of the area up and down like wave. As the time went, I found more places with same issue, the installer was not reachable later. So, this time, I decided to go with a brick and motor company. Every place, I went, I told my previous experience and told them, the floor must be flat before putting the flooring. Mack, the install coordinator at Surplus building material farmers branch, seems to be very nice and he understood my need. But actual installer was a sub-contractor with name Noe and Josue, both are brothers. After they prepared the sub-floor, I put my 6-foot leveler to see the flatness. In many places, if I press the leveler one end, other end will go up. This means, it is not flat. After talking with them, we decided to go with self-leveling compound. I had seen video on self-leveling in youtube, so as soon as they started, I could see that they are not mixing it properly and sometime the mix is too watery etc. I have attached the pictures here. I also have many videos. I told them to spread it out, they said it will spread it by itself. The next day, again I put my leveler to check the floor flatness. Same issue. I called Mack, he said they will level it again and told me to trust their work. I spent an additional $3500 to flatten the floor + $1000 was include in the original contract. Total $4500. As per Mack, I trusted them. After the installation, many places the planks do not touch the floor. It makes the squeaky and hollow sound and also, I can feel the plank going down when I step on it. Installer says, a floating floor is like that which is hard to believe. I showed two other contractors, and both said installer could have done a better job. The company Surplus building material farmers branch seem to be good, but the installer they chose, do not have knowledge to do the flooring. Unfortunately, I trusted the company thinking that they will have good installers. I lost a good amount of money and I have to re-do the flooring again to correct these issues. If anybody want to check my floor before installing a new floor, please call me at 214-402-8906. We had a pretty decent size remodel done to our home. New flooring through out entire house and 2 new bathrooms. At first we were told the whole job would take about 2 weeks to complete. I was pleasantly surprised that it only took 1 week to get everything done and my floors look fabulous! I am giving them a 2 star due to the follow up needing allot of work. At the end of the project we did a walk through and noticed a couple of thing needed to be done before I signed off on the job. Noe said he would be back in a couple of days and get everything done. He and Mac have ignored every phone call text and email that was sent to come and make final repairs, touch ups and to remove the bathtub that they said they would haul off. Just not impressed at all with the follow through! read more

Extremely poor experience. We purchased doors there and were told they needed to be removed now, despite the promise to store them. When questioned why, we were informed it was because the manager, Mac Tabei, wanted the doors for his friend. He essentially was trying to steal our property. When we arrived to pick them up, we were greeted rudely and left waiting for 30 minutes despite seeing a minimum of 6 employees standing and smoking. When we asked for help again and asked to speak to the manager, we were greeted with "what?" from Mr Tabei. When we asked if we could get them ourselves or do something to expedite the process, we were told we can "shut up and wait another 30 minutes or get out of his store". This was beyond rude and flat out unethical behavior from Mr Tabei. He would not be employed at my company, much less be the manager. We will never be shopping there again, nor will our builder. Zero stars is the correct rating. read more

After my door was installed I immediately called about the lock not working. Made an appointment with the installer but he did not call or show. Called on Friday and was told I'd receive a call back the same day by 4 pm. No call.....No show...... Called today and talked with the manager. He was very rude and told me to cut the nonsense! After contacting the company several times and begging for help, we were told they purchase the door from outside the United States, the door comes in a box, and Surplus Building Materials does not warranty the door. Went into the store and everyone seemed very nice and helpful but that is where the good experience ended. Got a quote on granite for a great price but when it came time to set the appointment for the final measurements it took several phone calls to get someone to set an appointment. Then after they did the measurements, which were the same as the ones we did and got quoted on, the price jumped $500. They were not willing to work with us nor did they have a reason why it jumped $500. They were also unwilling to refund the $125 we paid for the measurements and now we are either out $125 or forced to pay $500 more than quoted. Lesson learned we will never use them again nor will be recommend them to any of our friends! Unless you want to be scammed I suggest you stay away! read more

Prices are good, selection is good, quality is very good, customer service is very good - during the sale. We felt shmucked-over at the install part. Per Adi and Mack, SBM has their own in-house installers for flooring. So they are familiar and dependable. Had we known ahead of time that that was not the case, we might have hired our own contractors for flooring installs. I have to say the price we paid for install was probably unbeatable. And in the end it all looks good. We had engineered hard woods installed on a slab, and we had tile installed. The wood floor crew showed up on time the first day Monday - and did almost nothing. They assured us they would be done by Wed. Then it would be done by Thurs. We needed the house Friday. The install crew did arrive early to finish that Friday, but apparently had plenty of time to finish some huge take-out chicken meal then not do any clean up. As I told Adi and Mack, leaving chicken bones, drink cups, take-out food bags and trash in my living room, and leaving wood scraps and packaging in my yard is bad for repeat business. The one and only one tile installer worked for 6 days, tirelessly. He did a really good job all things considered. He kept saying he was supposed to have help and somebody would be coming later. I know the job would have been done faster, cleaner, slightly better if he had help. We gave him a tip. I hope that wood floor crew goes out of business. Maybe it would help to be able to speak Portuguese. read more

I just opened my new spa in Preston Hollow. I used most materials from SBM. My floor looks really beautiful. 2 vanities are perfect. my restroom and my shower look very nice. When my sub-contractor went to pick up materials everything was ready. The price was reasonable. The staffs were really nice and friendly. I actually learnt a lot from them because I know nothing about constructions. I was really satisfied and happy. In the future if I have more projects I will continue doing business with them. I have done business with SBM for several years and felt compelled to write a review. They have an excellent selection of material on site and there customer service is amazing. I have dealt with a lot of salesman but Ruben was the latest person I interacted with. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and even interacted with our kids. I recently encountered a problem with the installation of some tile and they helped make the situation right. i recently upgraded my kitchen countertops and backsplash. I shopped around and decided to go with BSM. Paris helped me choose my granite and tile. She was absolutely fantastic to work with. She went above and beyond to help solve a problem that arose. She made the experience very positive! I wasn't happy that the granite installers didn't ask me to remove everything before they cut my sink opening out so I spent two days having to hand wash everything and removing a sheet of dust on all the shelves after the install. As business owners (ourselves), we have a unique perspective on customer service from point-of-sale to receipt of product and installation to follow-up. Our experience with Mack Tabei (3403 Beltline location) far surpassed our hopes & expectations! Picture yourself 3 days before Christmas - and your already-scheduled installer (from another company) "no-shows" and does not respond to numerous attempts to contact. We were disappointed & (pretty much) resolved ourselves to the idea that our home would be in "construction chaos" throughout the Christmas holiday. As we were driving past Surplus on Beltline (Friday, Dec 22), we decided to stop in .... just to see if there was any possibility of scheduling with any of their installers (for after Christmas). OMG!!! We spoke with Mack - and he quite literally gave us a Christmas miracle!! He contacted his top installer and asked him to come to our home - that same evening (a Friday evening)! Noe, showed-up 2 hours later - reviewed everything - and scheduled his crew for the very next morning (Sat Dec 23). The crew showed-up - not only on time - but also with Noe & Miguel, Foreman. We had holiday plans late afternoon/early evening; and the crew graciously chose a stopping-point; cleaned-up everything; and agreed to return the next morning (Sunday,Dec 24) - late morning, as we wanted to sleep in. Again, as promised, the crew & Miguel showed-up at the scheduled time and completed the project (upstairs hallway and master bedroom). And when all was completed, Noe & Miguel did a walk-thru to make sure everything had been done perfectly. Throughout all - whether we text, emailed or called - ANY of the guys (Mack, Noe, Miguel) ... ALL of them responded immediately! Who does that!?!?! Mack & his guys to that!! Surplus Building on Beltline .... Mack makes your store better than you can possibly imagine; and those whom he chooses to "represent" (installers, etc) are direct reflections of his sincerity, integrity, desire to do great work! I highly recommend SBM for residential remodeling work. I had them redo three bathrooms, including the master, hardwood flooring throughout, a front door, and a couple of fireplaces. The quality was very good, great materials, reasonably priced, reasonable time to complete and top notch work. Mack coordinated the whole thing start to finish, and the whole team was great to work with. They know what they are doing and knew when to involve me and ask for options. When I first went to the store, I was extremely impressed with the amount of product and the quality looked great. We fell in love with the Elegant Almond 12 mm laminate flooring. We were planning on putting it in our whole house but bought maybe $600 worth first to just do our kitchen and dining room. I have installed floors in my old house and they came out great. I lived there 6 years and there were no issues, scratches, dents, etc. I installed the Elegant almond and it looked amazing at first. The problem is that top piece of laminate is SO THIN, that any bump causes the layer to chip away. There are SO many scratches in our floors. I will not continue with this product through the rest of my house. I called to ask about the warranty (which I was told was 25 years) and they said that it has to be professionally installed. They sent someone out to assess the floors, and their solution was to give me 2 free boxes of the flooring. Why would I want 2 free boxes of flooring that I have to tear out and not use? Be careful with this company, if you read other comments on here and Facebook, it shows that the customer service is lacking. read more

I ordered Texas Hickory laminate flooring from Addie for WAY LESS than anything the big box stores sold. This flooring is AMAZING! It looks like real hand-scraped wood - you cannot tell the difference. Even better, it does not scratch and no dirt sticks to it. I have 8 cats, 3 dogs and 3 kids, and the floor still looks brand new after 9 months. I love this floor so much, after selling my old house, I'm putting in my new house! read more
