It's nothing spectacular but at the same time it's that piece of sand glass that stands out on a beach walk too, among all the dirty, broken shells. You walk in, bar and seating area - not that large but the outside deck, oh man. It's a sight, overlooking the ocean.. OH MAN IT'S A SIGHT - I SAID!!! Bar staff, wait staff - awesome, friendly. The event they had that day was a SUP race, that was fun to watch! And they also had live music on the deck, that was so cool!!! You're literally on the beach at this place, so catching some rays, drinking some drinks and snacking on food is all a plus.. the only reason I'm giving it 4 and not 5, here is the big kicker in the behind - the food is mediocre AND they don't have french fries!!!!! I was up in arms about this, almost but I mean, who doesn't have fries?! Oh, don't substitute for the potato salad.. it is.. different. Based on atmosphere, having tons of events happening and location this place is awesome, it's the sub-par food that marks off on here. This place made a really nice impression on me last summer.. which is why I chose to go there for my birthday this year. I've only ever been for Sunday afternoons (4-8pm) when Hot Like Fire plays. This place looked great by appearance and location, but that's about it for me. As we were sitting at a table, someone walks in with her group and says to them "is this place even open?" After that comment we should have left because it was all downhill from there. We sat and waited for a waitress, but no one came. A bartender hastily threw a drink menu on our table and eventually a food 4 food menu's. I guess its one of those order food and drinks at the bar places. I got a drink, it was wrong. I ended up with something tropical with straws that didn't reach the bottom of the cup, but whatever it was was good. The food selection was small, mostly salads, wraps, sandwiches, 3 or 4 types of hot dogs, a kids section and the back page of the menu was specials of the night. If your looking for salads or sandwiches, this is a good place for you. I left hungry. I could have eaten more and paid half the price for a few slices of pizza down the road. I'm not sure where the rest room was, possibly near the kitchen or in it because every door was marked "staff only." I love coming here and look forward to it every summer. I go on Sunday afternoons to see the reggae band Hot Like Fire (they are awesome) and drink with friends. There is a huge deck outside where the band plays and a dance floor. Drinks can be purchased outside and the wait for drinks is never long. Lots of tables outside on the deck and a cover over the dance floor to get some shade on really hot days. Cover charge is $10...not to bad and drinks aren't too expensive either. They make an awesome rum punch that I can't get enough of. I have only eaten here once because I usually go for Cristy's Pizza afterwards. My sandwich was just okay. Don't come for the food, come for the fun. Drinks, dancing and sunny weather by the beach. On Sunday's get there early or you will have to wait in a really long line. The place fills up quick. Stopped in this evening for outdoor dining and we were pleasantly surprised. Very relaxed atmosphere, that made us feel comfortable, especially since this date night included our third wheel, picky eater, stubborn toddler. Our server, Evan, was great, bringing us piping hot clam chowder, served with a hint of bacon. Nice touch, and a great start to our meals. He offered to bring our wee one's entree with the soups which was very helpful. Dinner was blackened salmon with a saffron and tomato rice, vegetable melange, and mango salsa for me, and Cajun haddock with mashed and roasted squash for my husband. We were very happy with our meals, our view of the Atlantic and the near full moon and our service. In these very trying times, it's nice to see a restaurant taking these mandates seriously and doing their part. Gloves were donned on all staff, and masks were worn correctly. Came here several times last year and it was like all the other clubs; long waits to get drinks and just crappy service. We just got used to it but you would think someone would get it by now? Positives first: Great location right on the beach. Negatives: the food was not very good. The spinach dip was awesome, but everything else was so so. The drinks were way to sour. Had a dinner reservation last weekend. Seated on time but we asked for one of the 4 tall pub tables that were empty so we could have a better view of the water. We were told no, they were filled. 2 of the 4 tables remained empty during the entire 90 minutes we were there. It wasn't super busy but took a good half hour or more for 2 appetizers to arrive. Good margaritas and rum punch, pretty good lobster roll- though I was disappointed that the bun was not buttered nor toasted. 2 years ago I came to this place and never wanted to return. My boyfriend however wanted to eat on the dock, and I thought it's been many years let me try it again. This past Friday night The only thing this restaurant is good at is their drinks. It took a half an hour for a hummus platter, and when the waitress dropped it of I asked if our food be out soon. Well I don't know where to start really, other than we walked in because our friend was craving lobster and we asked where we could sit and she said it was open game wherever we could find a spot, we found like a weird middle table that was more like a bar high table no one greeted us or said anything until I asked if someone could give us some service that was after 10 minutes of sitting there. We then had the waitress come over finally another almost 10 minutes later asked what we wanted to drink and then I had to ask for Menus our waitress was very slow and would go to other parties that had gotten there after us before asking us finally what we wanted to order, they had mussels on the menu but she said they wouldn't be there for another week, so we ordered the crab cakes as a app. for the record 15.00 for two small crab cakes is overpriced. I then ordered the Lobster Grilled Cheese, the lobster was ok, not alot of flavor, my husband had the Pulled pork sandwich which he liked and our friend had the lobster dinner and a pina colada. They came out with my food 15 minutes earlier than the other to so by the time they got their food I had finished eating. My wife and I came to celebrate our anniversary. We could not have asked for a better experience from walking through the door all the way to being seated at our table right by the water. Man what a view! The staff was amazing. Very professional and personable. Considering everything going on in the world I feel like they couldn't have handled things any better. Our waitress Ivy was amazing as well. She had a great attitude and was very attentive but not so much so that it was overwhelming. A true professional considering she had to walk around wearing a mask the entire time. We frequent restaurants quite often. My wife enjoyed her meal and mentioned multiple times how delicious it was. Disclaimer: I've never eaten the food and this review is in regards to the nightclub only. I've been to Surfside a LOT over the last few years, unintentionally. It was the spot to get drunk cheaply and it will always hold a place in my heart because of the role it played in my early twenties. Surfside has some great things going for it: it's cheap, it's relatively clean, it's never too crowded, it has beautiful views, and there's great people watching if you enjoy observing a dude with face tattoos argue with the bouncer for 40 minutes before stumbling away to buy beach pizza and heroin. I do enjoy the above, but, most of all, I appreciate the roominess of the venue. I can dance my ass off all night and stand with my friends and look at the water and no one will bump into me, which is unheard of in Boston. But there's a darker aspect to Surfside - an aspect I've been trying to ignore for years yet no longer find it possible to do. The. music. is. shit. I don't mean 'the music is kind of lame but I can get through it' or 'the music is okay but too loud'. I mean 'the music is unrecognizable as music and we must never return because I can't pretend anymore'. This isn't a one-time occurrence. The DJs are consistently awful every damn time I go. I don't think I've ever heard decent music at Surfside and I've been going there for 4 years. Example: last time we went, about two weeks ago, we were informed that DJ Snuggles would be serenading us that evening. We should have run when we heard the name, but for some reason we stayed and endured 4 hrs of random beeping noises. Don't be fooled into thinking that DJ Snuggles is someone alternative or trendy and I'm just not getting his artistry; remember his NAME. This is no Helena Hauff. This is an adult man who willingly decided to label himself after fabric softener and doesn't know how to work a controller. Several times during the night he accidentally turned off sound for half of the dance floor and had to be assisted by another man. We waited in vain for some song that we recognized. Occasionally we were fooled: 1 verse of a song we could bop to played, only to disintegrate into bizarre static and growling within 30 seconds. I'm 27 now and my early twenties are behind me. I can't do it, Surfside. Do your bartenders wear earplugs? Are you paying DJ Snuggles? Is...is it a joke? Best of luck to my 22-yr-olds who can withstand such auditory abuse. Today was our third and most likely last visit here. It has a great location with a beautiful deck overlooking the ocean. The problem is the service is slow and inept. We sat for twenty minutes before being approached. Once she did come, we requested menus and she was gone again to come back, drove them on the table and say she'd be back. This is an outside, oceanside bar and cafe. The menu had no true appetizers. They had wraps and tacos. What was listed as a appetizers were inappropriate for the setting. We walked in and waited by the host stand for about 10 minutes. Several employees walked by us and didn't say anything. Finally I asked one of them if it's seat yourself, and they said yes. There was no sign and not one of the employees who walked by thought to say something. We walked around outside looking for a table. It was "pirate" night, so people just left their stuff at a table and had their kids run around. It was a nightmare. We decided to eat inside at the bar. We waited for 20 minutes for a bartender to come to us. We asked him for a food menu, which he literally threw at us. After looking over the menu, nothing really peaked our interest, especially since half of the items were lobster and I wasn't confident that it would be any good at this point. We had already waited so long that we just decided to get nachos and pretzel bites. We waited a FULL HOUR FOR NACHOS. On top of that, it was just melted cheese on chips with a few jalapeños and olives. No salsa, no sour cream, just dry. I asked for a side of sour cream, it never came. Don't go here before a concert. Great for girl's night! My girlfriends and I went to Surfside 5 for the first time on a Friday night and I was pleasantly surprised. To be honest, I was expecting kind of a dirty, twenty-something dive. The atmosphere out on the deck is absolutely wonderful! The whole place (including the bathrooms) were very clean and the crowd was a really great mix of different ages and types. The live band was rockin' but we could still here well enough to have a conversation and the energy was great. Granted, I have only been in once and may have a different experience on a different night, but I will definitely go back again. The service was a little on the slow side and although their website says "Bar and Grill", we did not see any menus or any food. If you are looking for a fun, friendly place to have a few drinks, this is a good pick. read more

Very disappointing. I reserve my table at 5:45 PM was about 10 minutes late . I called to confirm my reservation, the lady told me there was no problem . When I arrived , I asked to be seated near the ocean in an empty table and that's when all the trouble started . The manager came to me telling that I cannot seat on the ocean side despite the fact many tables were open and despite the fact that I have a reservation. She falsely claimed that the tables are numbered and reserved . After a back and forth and debunking her false statement, she reluctantly gave me the ocean view . But only to ask me to leave 40 minutes later pretending that I did not order food ( which I did ) and she had a reservation a 7 pm . That Makes me the only person she asked to leave. I have been to the most finest restaurants and was never treated that way . In situation like that, a black person like me cannot help asking if he was treated this way just because of the color of his skin. read more
