This is a relatively new restaurant and I expect will improve in time. I do hope so as the location is nice, the room has been redone nicely, and the food was good, but service was slow and spotty. I think they just don't have enough servers. We arrived just after our friends who advised they had already ordered their drinks. Our waitress arrived promptly and took our drink order and then vanished. No drinks for quite some time. A manager came over to ask if anybody had visited us, apologized for the delay, and returned with our drinks. I'm estimating it was a bit over 30 minutes or so before drinks arrived. Our waitress did return, apologized and took our food order. I wasn't so sure about ordering sushi, but glad we did. The maki we tried were very good, fresh and beautifully presented. A great start. We switched gears for our entree and went with a parpadelle bolognese. A nice generous portion that was as good as some of the Italian spots in the area. Our friends also enjoyed their dishes. Portions were generous and prices were reasonable. I would easily have given 4 stars, but the service needs improvement. You would need to plan to spend at least a couple of hours for a lunch. In our case it was not a big deal as we were enjoying time with friends, but I can understand the other negative reviews now. We do plan to return to work our way deeper into the menu, and hope they will have more staff to help with the front of the house. read more

This wasn't our first visit to this place; we had visited once before and sat on the patio (during winter, so it was sealed up like a cozy igloo). Knowing the drill, we were prepared to valet the car, which is definitely a downside since it slows down the whole getting-in-and-out process. We made our way to the host stand and were greeted warmly. We asked for seating for three (husband, wife, and child) and were led to a table along the outside of the bar. It was a great window seat but definitely on the louder side. Not an issue for us, but if you're bringing someone who's hard of hearing or just doesn't like noise, consider this a heads-up. Our waitress came over to take our drink order immediately, and we placed our food order shortly after. We started with the Brussels sprouts appetizer. I ordered the Poke Bowl, my husband went for the Mac & Cheese, and our son ordered the same from the kids' menu. Drinks took a while to arrive. When the appetizer came, I noticed my utensils were sticky and asked for a new set. This took wayyyyy longer than it should have. She literally went and gathered some drinks from the bar and delivered them before getting me the utensils. The appetizer was tasty but lacked the sriracha kick we expected from the description (though I honestly preferred them this way). Our meals arrived, and I noticed mine was very small but delicious. My husband's dish was missing the chicken and prosciutto and was really dry. Our son's dish had chicken on the side (a good idea) because he didn't like the pasta, calling it "dry and weird" (his words). My husband asked for a side of cheese and the missing chicken and prosciutto. He only got the chicken and cheese (at this point, we let the prosciutto go). We ordered a second round of drinks but should have ordered them as soon as the first round arrived because the meal was pretty much done by the time we got the second round. In the end, we skipped dessert and paid the check. The lackluster personality of our waitress didn't help things. We handed in the valet tag with payment (as instructed) and still waited over 10 minutes for our car by the time we got to the parking lot. Overall, this place has promise but still needs some work before it can capitalize on the summer traffic. If they can't figure it out, I fear it won't last like many of their predecessors. The location and ambiance are spot on! Each room has a completely different vibe and aesthetic which adds to the lounge feel. The cocktail menu has a good variety of innovative drinks and their options of wine and beer is decent. They do not have wines by the bottle (yet). The food was good but a few modifications could make it better. For example, the charcuterie board only had 2 cheeses and 2 meats. The majority of the board were the accoutrements like nuts and chutneys. Adding another cheese or a pate would help elevate the board. The scallop appetizer was very tasty and had great flavor. The scallops were a little undercooked but overall I'd recommend it if you like scallops. The crispy Brussel sprouts were the stand out. They've only been open a week and they are off to a strong start. I'll definitely be back for more! read more

Went here the night it launched and wasn't impressed with the food or cocktails. But since that was the launch, I wanted to give it a second chance and did just recently. The negative began the moment we entered the parking lot. I parked in a spot, exited my vehicle, then was told the parking was for those staying overnight in the hotel rooms. The only way to park otherwise was valet. I'm really not a fan of valet, and that should be an option not something that is mandatory. Inside is gorgeous, I have to say. It's very high-end looking with gold fixtures and a Rolex green vibe. We were seated quickly for our reservations, but we had a little trouble deciding on what to order. The menu is diverse, so that's good. Unfortunately, just about all of the food we sampled both times wasn't anything particularly good. Eggplant rollatini was probably the standout of about 6-8 dishes between the two visits. My wife ordered edamame, I got a smash burger, and we split a burrata and heirloom tomato salad. The salad was delicious and fresh. But the rest was not great. The taste wasn't as much the issue. The issue was we got the salad and burger, then minutes later the waitress told us the edamame would take another 5 mins because the kitchen had "two big trays go out". I really cannot stand people who treat me like I'm stupid, and I don't like liars or people who can't own up to a simple mistake. She clearly forgot to put in the edamame. It takes no more than a couple minutes to steam edamame, yet it was going to take 5 minutes longer than all the rest of the food? Makes zero sense. If these trays were so taxing on the kitchen, they wouldn't have been able to dress a salad or cook a burger, if they were too busy to steam edamame. And we saw this coming a mile away. The waitress was one of those waitresses that forgets everything yet refuses to write down the orders she is taking. She had to come back a couple times with a "what was it that you ordered?" She was talking about the salad then, but clearly somehow forgot the edamame. Some slow food is fine, but say "oh I'm sorry, I forgot to put it in, it'll be right out." Don't make an excuse that insults my intelligence. I wouldn't come back between the parking situation and two bad experiences, sub-par food, and a lying waitress. read more

Went for dinner with a friend last night and had an awesome meal!! Started with bacon wrapped scallops which were amazing and portion size was generous! Had the smash burger with fries which were superb!! Juicy and just the right size! Will be back soon. Adrienne our waitress was on top of things! Never had to wait for anything! We were really rooting for this place -- it has a gorgeous interior that makes you feel like you're about to have a fine dining experience. Unfortunately, that illusion faded the moment we sat down. It wasn't busy, but the service moved at the speed of a dial-up connection. We waited over an hour just to get our appetizers, which arrived cold -- a trend that apparently extended to the entrees, too. Nothing says "yum" like undercooked chicken. (Spoiler: no one said "yum.") Three of our six water glasses had lipstick marks still on them, and one of our cocktails arrived with what looked like a bit of last night's appetizer stuck to the outside of the glass. Not exactly the garnish we were hoping for. Our server was clearly new and totally lost with the menu -- kept going back to ask questions we assumed were standard about various things that were their own take on traditional dishes. It felt like everyone's first day, from the kitchen to the floor staff. They did comp a bunch of items, but weirdly left others. For a table of six with a comedy of errors like this, the bill should've been fully comped with a heartfelt apology and maybe a plea for a do-over -- but we got neither. Also, the lighting was so bright it felt like we were dining in a surgical suite, not enjoying dinner. Pro tip: dimmers exist for a reason which were utilized after we mentioned it. Final insult? No parking option except valet. Which would be fine... if the food was worth leaving your car for. Beautiful space. Brutal experience. Hard pass -- at least until they figure out how to run a restaurant. read more

When Slip opened we really enjoyed the quality of the food and professional service, however over time Slip has become one of the worst restaurants I have ever gone to. Tonight the server made numerous errors with our order. Our drinks arrived after a long delay complete with a floating ant in the scotch. Subsequent orders from the bar came back unfulfilled with the statement "we are sorry our bar order wasn't missed this week". The food was college cafeteria quality. Food was outstanding. From sushi to burgers to salads and sides and drinks it was phenomena and blew away my expectations. I have a new favorite place in the Newburyport area- we needed this! Ambiance is classy and sophisticated but still comfy and family friendly, and a great place to go at any hour of the night. Service was wonderful. Food was well presented and very good. The sashimi was especially good. Service was excruciatingly slow. And the ambiance is strange but I'm sure will be more enticing in the summer months with a wonderful view over Newburyport and the Merrimac river. In winter it's not inviting. My husband and I have gone to the slip 3 times. We sat in the lounge. The food and quiet atmosphere was great. Last night we went with friends. We sat near the bar. The noise level was horrible.Our friends were very unhappy. Next week, we are going with other friends. I recently went to the Slip on Saturday January 25, 2025. We were told that you cannot reserve for two, so we took our chances, as it was for 12:30. It would be nice to be able to reserve, as my husband and I like to know we are guaranteed a table on special occasions. The atmosphere looks upscale with tables and couches, hanging chandeliers, etc. We were at the restaurant part but was told even if we sat near the fireplace, it was not working. I ordered a French martini and was told they could not make it, as they did not have Chambord? So I ordered a lemon drop martini. Small and just soso. We make better ones at home. Actually a little tart. I have had many, so I should know. Some restaurants make them better than others obviously. Next I ordered a Shiraz, only they did not carry it. Our waitress was pleasant enough, which I wish would remember her name. Our plan was to skip sharing appetizers, as I wanted the mussels as my meal. They said they did not have them. So, we opted to split appetizers after all, because we did not want to eat something too filling for lunchtime. My friend and I ordered the bruschetta to split. Somewhat tasty but on very tiny little toast type crackers. Next, we decided to try and split the Mediterranean board. Tasty but finger food, not enough to satisfy. By then, we hoped eventually, we would feel full. Ordered a dessert, as we were celebrating our January birthdays. I think they offered like 6 desserts but only two were available? We did order and split the warm cookie with melted ice cream and caramel, which I have to say, was very good. Finally. It certainly is not a place you would want to bring little children. Although someone brought an infant and a toddler, who was extremely loud. Glad we chose a seat further away but we could still hear them. Very distracting. I do not usually leave negative feedback, unless the experience was not the greatest, as we love to see new places succeed. We may give it a second chance, although I am not in any hurry to return. I hope someone in charge reads this so that their restaurant can improve and succeed. We loved the restaurant that was there before called the Portside? I've always loved this location on the water overlooking Newburyport but recently stopped in on the way home from the beach for a bite and a drink. We sat on the deck listening to live music (Dylan Burke) had some sushi along with some delightful drinks. The sushi was excellent - The Fireworks was delicious and not too hot but The Big Catch was worth going back to the Slip for sure! The Bramble Spritz was a delightful drink to end the day! The restaurant decor was quite lovely as well. The only down side is the parking is valet only with is a bit of a bummer but we will definitely go back! read more

Of the 4 in our party, one meal came with incorrectly prepared protein. She had ordered blackened, but it came fried. Two of us ordered the Yellowfin Tuna Niçoise Salad. The fish was fine, but that was not a Niçoise Salad, and it was missing ingredients listed in the description. The environment is nice. Even with a lot of staff around, service was only ok, and they seem to need more training. Teach those bussers how to carry a tray! read more

We were in Salisbury visiting friends and had dinner at The Slip Lounge. The venue itself is awesome, located on the water with a gorgeous huge long bar and lots of windows featuring the beautiful waterfront. We started off with dinner which was excellent! I had the miso glazed salmon and my husband had the filet. Truly yummy! Our waitress was very welcoming and attentive. After dinner, the bar scene was picking up so we headed over to the room with the pool tables and to enjoy an after dinner cocktail. Although it was too cold enjoy the waterfront deck, it looks like it would really be great once the weather warms up. I am sure that deck will be THE place to be once spring hits. We had a great evening with our friends and highly recommend stopping by the Slip Lounge, whether for drinks, dinner or both! read more

The food was excellent! The scallop appetizer was really good, I loved the corn "relish" they served on it, and the sweet potato "nest" was good and I would have liked a little more on it. I prefer my scallops slightly more done. The crispy brussel sprouts were yummy! My husband had the Monte Carlo sandwich which he liked but thought they should have cut it. Came out whole. I had a glass of white wine that was very good but the pour was very small. I felt like I was at a wine tasting. The waitress was good but maybe should have checked on us sooner after we got our food. And my first glass of wine sat at the bar for awhile. I was tempted to go get it! Been to The Slip a couple of times. The first visit I was positively impressed. The second visit recently I saw some changes that dulled my opinion. I like the decor and seating. Cozy and different. But the waitress my group had - maybe she's new- didn't make for a great experience. Long spans of time between encounters with her and at the end she just placed the check on the table. Didn't inquire if we wanted dessert, which we did. And she didn't seem to know the menu well. Hopefully she'll improve. The dessert was a called a crème brûlée. It was pastry cream with torched sugar. And I was surprised to be charged a dollar for fries to go with my sandwich. I don't think I've had that happen before in my life. The web site has been changed to include photos of the food items. Unfortunately many of the pictures, including some by the desserts, are pictures of salmon. I assume the ideas of the photos would be to entice people to come in. I don't think the way it stands now those pictures will have a positive effect on potential customers. read more

Was just at The Slip this evening 9/21/24 for an early dinner tonight with a friend, hoping for a great experience. First time dinners, we sat at the bar and ordered espresso martinis from there it got weird. The bartender Christopher took my drink and passed it to another person on the outside of the bar and said "see this is what my espresso martinis looks like", the person almost took a sip before my drink! It was then placed in front of me...... What? We ordered our dinners, 2 chicken paillards. People around us who had ordered food at the same time had eaten and left ( 45 minutes).. Still no food. We had no napkin/silver in front of us, as others who had ordered food did. The food arrived and the thin pressed grilled chicken breasts were dry. Christopher never came to ask how our meal was, I would have asked for a bit of extra sauce, but he had ghosted us. Christopher our bartender/waiter had positioned himself at the other end of the bar we never saw him again. I have been involved in the restaurant industry, and being ghosted by the waiter is the most upsetting part of a night out at a new restaurant. I so wanted this restaurant to be a guilty pleasure but it was nothing but a guilty mistake. It is my hope this new restaurant can get its crew professionally trained to perform at the level this restaurant is trying to achieve. Not a good first experience. We had made a reservation for 6PM on Saturday, Jan.25. We were a party of 6. We received a voice mail Saturday afternoon apologizing that the restaurant had to cancel our reservation. When we called back, we were told the call was by mistake. That was the first of what would become a bad experience. When we arrived, we were seated in the bar area at a table for 8. After about 5 minutes, we were asked to move to another table for 6. Loud cannot describe the level of sound in the bar area. We were celebrating our daughter and grand daughter's birthdays. Our waitress finally made her appearance to take our drink orders. This restaurant had only one brand of Chardonnay. The waitress said the serving size was 4oz and $18.00. She later came back and said it was actually 6oz. She took our food order. My wife ordered Mussels but was told there were none because they are in the process of changing the menu. I'm not sure what one has to do with the other. She then requested the scallops dish and got the same response. My 2 grand children ordered sushi. 2 of the others ordered a salmon dish ($30) extremely small portion. The last 2 ordered hamburgers $18 each. We had told the Maitre D about the 2 birthdays. 4 of us received our meals while the waitress apologized that the 2 sushi orders would be out shortly. We waited awhile, not wanting to eat in front of those who hadn't yet been served. The waitress came by several minutes later with another apology explaining that the sushi chefs were really busy. 4 of us finally relented to eating our now cold food. After another apology, the 2 sushi orders finally appeared. We were told that the sushi kitchen is a separate business from the restaurant even though it is located on the premises. Waitress said, she's not sure if they even speak English. Awhile later, the waitress came back with 2 slivers of cake with a candle on each. I didn't have a taste but I was told it wasn't very good. We paid our bill and on the way out the Maitre D apologized for the sushi problem again while arrogantly explaining it is separate. We will never be back. Prices are high, quality was below average, and service was a total failure. If you are going to offer sushi or other specialties, you should have some control over their production. read more

I was very excited to try out this new spot. We went Saturday night knowing that they were only a few days into opening and to expect a few bumps. We arrived around 5 and were seated right away, which was a pleasant surprise. However, we were not greeted by a server or any wait staff for 45 minutes, when water was eventually brought over to us. We waited about another 15 minutes for our server to come take our orders. About another 15 minutes later, the drinks came out separately. The entrees came before the apps and no one came by to check on the food the entire meal. Eventually, we had to ask for the check as our server never came back after first taking our order. When a restaurant is opening for the first time, it's pretty normal for management to approach customers, introduce themselves, thank them for coming in, and maybe suggest an item off the menu. Despite seeing a handful of people hanging around the host stand, not one of them seemed to interact with guests or help their wait staff out by clearing plates, etc. I really hope they get things figured out. I'd hate to see them go. Perhaps I'll try back in a month or so when things are (hopefully) running a bit better. The atmosphere was nice, a breath of fresh air for this area. The menu is great, too. Highly recommend the halibut! So, please, fix the kinks so you can stick around a while. read more

Hi! I dined at the slip recently. I was a little disappointed as someone with a severe gluten allergy (celiac disease). I ordered gluten free and told my server 3 times that I had a gluten allergy. I am so cautious about where I eat out and was excited about the gluten free fryer I was told about. Unfortunately, I had to check each item as it was brought out because none were labeled or presented as gluten free when they were brought to the table. Additionally, my main dish was not gluten free and had to be remade. Thank god that I checked with the runner and she was honest enough to say that she needed to check and the honest kitchen staff that said it was not gluten free. When it came to servers attention, her only response was saying multiple times that it was that put into the computer correctly. Although the manager came out well after the second meal was delivered to ensure I had now received the "correct one" truly no one apologized for the situation except for the runner who only apologized when she brought me out the gluten free meal. Overall, I am concerned about the staffs' food safety training as well as awareness of allergies. Additionally, the lack of accountability and inability to remedy the situation in a thoughtful way was disappointing. Upon reflection, I am concerned that even the food I checked was gluten free, might not have been. I reached out to them privately about my concerns and did not hear back. read more
