"Banana" cheesesteak
Justin S.

Great food! As someone who grew up eating some of the best cheesesteaks out there, in New Jersey, I can say that this was a pretty good spot. The "banana" cheesesteak with its banana peppers, was really really good; and that horseradish sauce hit the spot. The only real feedback I had was that the sandwich was a little too bread, but I did love how they seared the top of the sandwich as well.

Consistently great food over many years with decent staff and great prices. They bring it straight to your car. One of the best places to get consistently great food.

Malibu sandwich and cup of clam chowder

This place is a great staple in Long Beach. Hours are reliable and they take credit cards! The clam chowder is different than most- peppery and savory. My mom said it's the best she's had in a long time. Lots of vegetarian choices, both hot and cold. They also have great smoothies and their bread is baked fresh each day. Definitely give this place a try and enjoy your food outside or take it for a picnic!

Crasins, pineapple, apples, and cashews in a sandwich? I'm honestly not sure why this works, but it does. We love a good vegetarian menu moment and happened upon this gem after visiting Cape Disappointment. No disappointments here! I'm vegetarian and I ordered the Goofy Foot with jalapeños and it almost knocked my socks right off. My friend got the Big Kahuna with jalapeños as it was recommended by another reviewer! :) We were both super happy with our choices and agreed we'd likely be here 4 times a week if we lived in the area!

Showed up on a Monday afternoon, internet search said the place was open but it was closed IRL. Maybe seasonal hours. I'm sure the food is good, I really was excited to try this place. Maybe try calling before you drive all the way there and see a sign posted in the window that it's closed. Small town adventures and life lessons in food planning and having some grace with everyone is what I enjoyed from Surfer Sands.

Warm delicious Sandwiches with great choices. A new favorite! On main strip so easy in & out

The chicken sandwich cut in half so you could see the insides. Very delicious.

Quite delicious very tasty at a good value for your buck. I definitely go back and try something else next time I'm up that way.

Ordered the Big Kahuna and Pepper Steak. The woman at the register also offered us samples of the Cajun clam chowder and chilli...both were SO GOOD! The sandwiches were also incredible. So flavorful and tasty.

Have you ever gone to the Pig and Pancake and ordered a $16 plate of slop, wolfed it down, and then…read moresaid, "Oh God, what have I done?" Yeah, me too. That's why I've decided to stop hurting myself and go to the Chalkboard Cafe instead. The difference in quality of ingredients and cooking is apparent in the first bite. It really is a bit jarring. This restaurant makes everything from scratch, and I mean everything. Yesterday my son and I got two burgers and our potato salad and coleslaw sides were like sides my mother would make in her kitchen, not globs of shelf stable Reser's food-paste that were made two states over a month ago and sprayed with mortuary chemicals to stop their decay. The food at the Chalkboard is real food, not fake food, which brings me to my next point, dietary restrictions. If I had any dietary restrictions whatsoever, gluten sensitivity in particular, this would be where I would go for breakfast or lunch in Seaside. Chalkboard has gluten free biscuits and gravy available, delicious GF naan bread made by hand, and gluten free versions of popular bakery goods made in their small kitchen from scratch. Even if you don't have restrictions you can be assured that your meal will have 80% less total ingredients just based on the restaurant's ethics alone. They aren't taking shortcuts, they aren't bringing junk into the building in the first place, so junk never ends up on your plate. The service is stellar, the ambiance is charming and clean. You're out of excuses. You were wondering where you should go to eat, and now you know. Go to the restaurant where the locals take their own families - the Chalkboard Cafe.

But I didn't care too much for the flavor. Genuinely not good. And the cream cheese it came with, zero flavor, which was easily remedied by adding my own salt. The ambience and decor was quaintly charming, at first. But the more I looked the more understood that everything was creepy. Like witchcraft creepy.

The shop is located right after the Budget Rental Car building off of Canyon Road, you turn left going east into the parking lot as you pass the Budget building, the sandwich shop is right next to the hot tub shop on the left of the lot, ample parking is available. The interior has a few tables but seating is limited if you plan on eating in. The menu board is basic and to the point. You can create your own sandwich or select from the various options. A key fact, they only serve one size sandwich a 12 inch. I ordered the chicken with pepperjack cheese, hot peppers (they are hot), black olives, pickles and mayo (I will share that you might ask for a smaller spread of mayo if you are not a huge mayo fan), my son ordered the Supreme with steak, mayo, unions, lettuce, tomato, jalapeños, mushrooms and steak sauce on a soft white roll. The bread was amazingly soft and holds up well with all of the toppings. The sandwich taste was amazing, it took about 8 min or so to get our order but well worth the wait, they sandwiches were packed with toppings, nice and hot proteins, we also ordered fries with cheese dip, the french fry order was much larger than expected glad that we shared them, the cheese dip is also very tasty. We look forward to our next sandwich.

We also know how she feels about the woman who is opening in the morning. (She doesn't like her) The woman at the front counter does not care that I have never been here before or that I still have 42 minutes before their 9 o clock closing time or that a menu is not readily available- she wants to know what I want to order NOW. I hope there is pepperoni on it, but I was scared to ask. I am giving this place two stars before even trying the food (not sure I want it if the food mirrors her attitude) because she is terrifying and I am scared what will happen if I only give her one. Anyone who…read moreknows me knows that I don't blow sunshine up anyone's skirt so this is a 100% fair and accurate review of the food they serve. I've actually spent a lot of time in Philadelphia so I know what a Philly Cheese Steak sangwich is supposed to taste like. Purists will say that the Philly here isn't totally authentic and that would be true, however they serve up a mighty good sandwich all the same. There's maybe a dozen or so places in Philly where you can get "the real deal". Lots more places in Philly (and elsewhere) offer a "Philly cheese steak" sandwich but they, too, are hardly authentic. So let's put that to rest. I had what's known as the provy witout. No whiz, no peppers. Just meat and cheese. Prit-T-good! Ordered the whole sandwich, which was actually two sandwiches for ~ $12. Waaaay too much even for a big guy like me. The steak was a tasty cut, grilled to perfection with the cheese cooked right into the meat as it should be. No complaints at all. The roll was as authentic as you can expect considering how far away a Philly bakery is. Unless you feel like traveling 3,000 miles this sandwich ought to keep even the fussiest folks happy. On a side note, I don't know how these food trucks make any money anymore. What with the reduced hours due to this scamdemic nonsense... they were open at this location for two hours. I believe that this was their only gig for the day. They did have a steady flow of customers but still. At ~$12 a pop they aren't taking in a lot of dough. Then you have a couple of hours of prep and cleanup time (no revenue there), the cost of materials, fuel, licenses, fees, overhead, equipment depreciation and so on.... the owner plus one employee plus childcare so she can work the business...... it's a LOT of work and not a huge reward. For them it must be a labor of love because no one gets rich operating one of these trucks. I always try to support local businesses and this is definitely a local business worth coming to visit.

The whiz was done right and was nice and thin as opposed to being too thick like some places do it. I appreciated the idea behind putting multiple cheese types in here, but I think it probably would have been better with just whiz. Unfortunately, my biggest gripe with this sandwich was that the meat used was pretty clearly chopped up burger meat as opposed to the typical shaved steak that you would typically encounter in a cheesesteak. While I hoped that this wouldn't make too much of a difference and would still be an enjoyable sandwich, I just couldn't overlook it as I ate the sandwich.
