My hidden gem for home appliances, cutlery, dishes and more. I accidentally stumbled across Sur La Table just out and about strolling through Glendale Galleria. I didn't know this place existed. They have a wide variety of different kitchen appliances and a plethora of pots and pans. I was slightly over stimulated but in a good way.... Like a kid in a candy store type of way. I also found out they offer cooking classes and also coffee making classes. I will definitely be signing up for a cooking class. Customer service was good also. The store rep gave me an overview of the different cutting boards they offer. She was really knowledgeable and helpful. The prices are reasonable in my opinion. I got a cutlery organizer for a fraction of the price I would've paid at the other high end similar stores. read more

Oooo La La, it's "Sur La Table." When translated from French to English, it's not as fancy...it simple means "on the table." This store is packed with a lot of high end kitchen items including: kitchen ware, anything and everything you can imagine one would need to cook, citrus & garlic pressers, kitchen table cloths, napkins, oven mitts, cookware, recipe books and more... You could spend hours roaming the shelves which I love to do. In the past I have bought a few clever items that I didn't even know existed but made my cooking experience better. I really enjoyed my very first visit to Sur La Table yesterday! My girl and I wandered in just on a whim to check them out, and were truly impressed with the variety of high-to-luxury quality house and kitchen wares they offer. We browsed for a while until we reached the coffee machine section, where we met a couple of wonderful employees who offered us a complimentary brew from the Jura machine they were demonstrating. The coffee was wonderful, and we soon launched into a discussion on brewing, grinding, coffee styles, etc. with their local expert. While we would have purchased a nice Buratza conical burr mill from them, unfortunately the model we wanted was out of stock. C'est la vie. Not to be discouraged, we wandered some more and found a few items we just couldn't live without, and were happily surprised to discover their prices are totally comparable to online, such as through Amazon. I keep coming to this sur la table hoping for better experiences and it never happens. I can't even start how horrible everyone who works at this location. Several times I've walked in and I've been ignored by workers chatting and gossiping at the desk. No one has ever been helpful, asking questions feels like your pulling their teeth, lastly they have such this awful demeanor as if they look down upon you whenever you try to return anything. I have already mentioned here that I am a professionally trained baker, some years back. Ever since that program, I have made it my mission to track down the best quality professional tools and ingredients. You simply cannot get them at most supermarkets or big box stores, with few exceptions. So, where do I go? Sometimes a couple of well known restaurant supply places when I want something strictly utilitarian but of the caliber the expert chefs use. However, I typically like to take it up a few notches and that is where Sur la Table comes in. I have shopped at this chain for about three decades. When I want a hard to find condiment or spice in a hurry, or a heavy duty French rolling pin, or gorgeous, elegant aprons, linens, and oven mitts, this is where I go. At one time SLT was the only place in the Los Angeles area to shop retail for high-end baking tools and equipment. It still has little competition. The Glendale store is a treasure. Located conveniently at Americana (see my reviews of Americana here too -- what a joy-filled place), I know I can hop in and find whatever I need on short notice. We had parties to attend this weekend and I needed a specific size baking pan that I did not have, so, last week, I checked out the online inventory at the Glendale store -- there it was, in stock, ordered it and arranged to collect it later. It was ready in a few hours. We stopped in to pick it up and minutes later it was in one of their giant signature Sur la Table shopping bags (free!) and out the door just 15 minutes later. I took the time to buzz up and down the aisles and re-familiarize myself with this wonderful resource. The store is clean and bright, down to the corners and the windows. It is right on Brand so you cannot miss it. As always, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. There was a cooking demo underway too. Since people have cut back on bricks and mortar shopping, I was apprehensive that SLT might seem too quiet, too tenuous. Nope! I am delighted to report it is thriving. But, the only way it can continue to be here whenever we need it, is to keep shopping there. Don't let inferior products fool you. Baking is a science as well as an art. You simply cannot duplicate professional results with cheap products made for the tyro. Whether you order on line, or take the time to bask in the warm light of this store, Sur la Table should be a regular venue for serious chefs, home or out. I love, Love, LOVE Sur la Table. Their current financial troubles concern me, as I really prefer them over their competitors. That said: I ordered online for an in-store pickup. I usually do this so I both get what I needed and have an excuse to have a staffer "twist my arm" into purchasing some other beautiful, needful thing. This round was a great disappointment. This is not my "home" store, so I don't know if I hadn't level-set my expectations correctly, but it's a stark contrast to the store I am used to. While this store was clean and bright as any other SLT, the staff was disengaged. They also swapped out an item I did not want substituted. It's such a pain finding parking in this area that I'm more irritated than usual that I have to go back and address the issue. read more

I ordered some new fancy measuring cups that were on sale online and picked up in-store. They have wonderful items to choose from, but you can't be on a tight budget when you shop here. They had so many kind staff members to help out. I remember when we bought our toaster oven a couple of years ago, the man who helped us took his time to explain the options to us. The employees are always helpful, their sales are awesome (pro tip: also check the back corners for clearance items), sometimes they'll make you a free espresso, oh... and $5 knife sharpening. I noticed they recently changed their exchange policy, and no longer accept returns for items that don't work well. I came in to look for a new pan and a saleswoman with dark hair kept stalking me around the store to the point where I felt unsafe and walked towards the exit. As I left the store, I heard her snickering behind my back and whispering "I told you so" to her coworker. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM SUR LA TABLE. I endured the most horrific experience at Sur La Table in Glendale. I purchased an almost $1000 espresso machine less then 3 weeks prior. I had previously spoke to a customer service representative on the phone who told me to return my item in store- in order to replace it. I drove almost 45 minutes to the store to be told by the manager, Wilson, that customer support on the phone is wrong and things cannot be returned in store. He also advised that the customer service center has no say in operations. I would recommend NOT purchasing anything from here. read more

My sister and I walked in the store on a Sunday in December and was warmly greeted. We were welcome to sample of espresso or Cappuccino. The store sells variety of knives, coffee machines, kitchen stuff, and cookware. Another reason for the visit was to check out Xmas stuff, such as cute ornaments shaped in food items which was 40% off. Also they had lots of cute tins in Xmas theme. My experience has been horrible. First of all I bought 3 wooden spoons that are apparently high quality for like $20-30 each!! My shopping experience with Madge (i think that's her name she was wearing glasses) was not the best she sounded condescending and I didn't like it. One of those people spoons broke in about 1 month!! I never had a wooden utensils break on me. When I went back for an exchange she gave me lecture like "you are supposed to take care of it" also she said " i will exchange this one time only". On Black Friday sales, I got most of the gifts for Christmas. Nowadays, everyone is learning how to cook and bake. What's a better Christmas gift than cooking ware? Sur La Table in Glendale has comprehensive stocks of all kinds of tools for cooking and baking. I bought Le Creuset cast iron Dutch pan from them at almost 40% off. Also got a set of Japanese cutting knifes for my son for Christmas at a 55% discount. I also got my wife a set of stoneware casserole baking pans at a very good price. If you're new to Sur La Table, you can get a $15 discount for signing up on their website. I just love all the good deals at this store. What's good about this location is that it's located right inside the Americana Mall and next to the big Glendale Galleria where you can get all your shopping done in one location. read more

My husband and I took a cooking class with chef Leanne, and I wish I could get my money back. I wanted to learn how to cook, but she seemed very upset that some people in the class weren't very good at cooking. She was rushed and very unprofessional. Good selection of kitchen and cooking tools, the staff is helpful (if inconsistent). The location is very convenient and a nice addition to the shopping options at the Americana. I recommend taking staff recommendations with a major grain of salt compared to the Pasadena store where they seem to be more familiar with cooking. I feel that the staff here are not trained in culinary matters and I've been convinced to buy inferior products because I relied more on previous Sur la Table experiences. If you value your time and money then I would avoid this location all together. The manager at this location is probably the rudest person I have ever had to deal with at any store. For reference she is an older lady with glasses, and she seriously has a stick up her you know what. I bought an espresso machine from this location in December of last year and tried to return it 2 days later. They told me that the machine (Breville Bambino) would do everything that I expected it to do, including temperature control. After using it one time I realized it did not have any temperature control like its bigger brother the Breville Barista Pro. The employees mislead me to believe that this machine would do everything I expected it to do, so naturally I wanted to return the item. I packaged the machine up perfectly, put it in my car and drove to this location. I parked in the parking structure, and carried this thing with me for 10 minutes as I walked from the parking structure to the store. When I got there I told the cashier I'd like to return the item. She reluctantly looked at the receipt and then asked the manager if it was ok to accept the return. That old bag stonewalled me and the return and basically looked at her and said "no". I explained that it wasn't the product I was expecting whatsoever and she decides to come up to me and antagonize me regarding the return. Her words: "So you just didn't like it?". My response: "It wasn't what I expected at all, and it doesn't have temperature control, as claimed by one of your sales associates." Her final words: "Sorry can't accept the return." Then she waddled away. I was pissed off, and decided to reach out to Sur La Table support. I called the next day and within 10 minutes the support team was able to provide me with a shipping label to return the item. They told me that once they received the item they would refund my original form of payment. This story doesn't end here though, now I was out an espresso machine AND my money. Even after receiving the item within 4 days it took them over 2 months to coordinate a refund with me. I called every single week from the day I returned the item to just last week confirming that my refund was indeed coming. They repeatedly told me that they received the coffee machine in their warehouse and that someone would reach out to me by phone or email to process the refund. I waited months for this call to happen, and just a couple of weeks ago it did! They asked me for my card number and I provided it to them, and they told me it would be available in 3-5 business days, but after 8 days... it still wasn't there. Finally I just ended up calling my bank and disputing the charge, they gave me my money in 1 day and asked for a copy of the email stating they had refunded me to be faxed to them. End of story. Basically avoid this location at all costs, don't give these people your money. Everything here is pretty overpriced anyways. The way the employees conduct themselves is almost like they are above you, all because they work at some snooty kitchen supply store. Get over yourselves. Note to the manager: When it comes to not accepting my return, it's not like this is some small-time mom and pop shop. It's not like I was taking money out of YOUR pocket returning an item I was unsatisfied with. Sur la table is a multi-million dollar corporation that grosses over $300 million dollars annually in revenue and you probably get paid a little over minimum wage. Why the hell would you do this to a customer? I was able to return it after all, but thanks to you, you made it very difficult for that to happen. Get over yourself! read more

Excellently maintained location for this chain of cooking and kitchen supplies. The staff is knowledgeable and most helpful with everything. I love how they are welcoming when it comes to a test drive for their fine knives and high-end coffee makers. They also have almost every conceivable tool you'll ever need for your kitchen. There are competitors out there, but Sur La Table seems to have a fun flair to it all. Check out towards the rear of the store and a designated end caps for clearance items. There are some great bargains to be seen. During the holidays, there are incentives everywhere along with their frequent flyer program. They also have their own store line of kitchen accessories. The quality they produce is really good. Careful consideration is warranted if you are looking for an alternative to some higher priced items. read more

This location was the only one in Southern California that had Sur La Table branded electric salt and pepper set that I've been on the hunt for. It took me 2 hours to get to the store and an associate, Renee, stopped what she was working on (looks like she was sharpening knives) and immediately assisted me and was very kind. She rung me up, got my email for their mailing list, and sent me on my way. 5 star service from Renee. Unfortunately, once I got home, both pieces were defective. One of the mills had broken internal components and the top piece, catapulted forward when I disassembled it to put the batteries in. The other mill electrocuted me as soon as I put the batteries in and is permanently stuck on grinding with batteries in. 4 hours later, I have two defective broken electric mills. I contacted their customer service hotline, the first agent was extremely unhelpful and not understanding at all. The second agent apologized for th inconvenience and is working on issuing me a refund. This store carries a lot of great items and fine name brands, be cautious of their house brand and read their reviews on their website. Glendale is too far for me to commute to so I don't imagine I'll be returning any time soon. read more

With so many other stores like Crate and Barrel, William Sonoma, and Pottery Barn why would I go here again to have a salesperson be snippy, curt and rude. The bulky old woman in glasses who works the Friday night shift was being incredibly rude to the customer next to us, despite the customer never having raised their voice or said anything inappropriate. When the customer said she didn't appreciate this lady's tone, the lady condescendingly said "No you just don't like being told no." I never actually need anything from here, but it's so fun to look at all of the fun culinary tools. I always find something on sale too (and then I buy it). Today while walking by and not needing anything I found the very last Soda Stream Genesis that was marked down by $29 and it had an additional 10% off for Labor Day weekend deals. Sold! Wrap it up and I'm taking it home. The associates are also very helpful. I recently managed a retail store and I can say that these ladies would have made me so happy if they worked with me. They greet the customers, answer questions, point out additional savings and attempt to sell more at the register. Haha! I don't mind. Most of the time it is a necessary accessory for what I've bought. It helps because they know the products, functions and add-one, I don't. I will definitely continue to make this location my go to for items that I don't need, but just have to have. read more

Today I was very disappointed in this store. My experience about two years ago was quite different I was looking for Salt and Pepper shakers made by Le Crescent. I love Sur La Table and buy many gifts there -- for others and yes, I confess, for myself. The current manager, Amanda, is incredible and redefines customer service. We often buy online because it is more convenient, but Amanda's presence reminds you how rewarding shopping can be in person. When my 20% promo code wouldn't work, she discovered there was a store-wide computer malfunction and offered to follow up to guarantee the entitled discount. When the Americana concierge initially refused to credit me points for my purchase, she called the concierge to confirm that my purchase was indeed made in-store. I don't visit Sur La Table very often and when I do, it's usually their Pasadena location for small items. I recently stopped in for a gift for my boyfriend to avoid shipping from Amazon. They also had the item I needed at a lower price than Amazon. I called and asked them to hold the item for me and quickly dropped in the next day. Their holiday ornaments were 50% off so I decided to pick up a small cheese grater for our tree. I also like being able to check their inventory online ahead of time, so I won't waste a drive somewhere if the item I'm looking for isn't there. Although, with a store like Sur La Table there will always be something you'll want to leave with. read more
