Supreme Dumplings is the kind of place the Sunset has quietly kept to itself for years. No frills, no reservation, just food that knows exactly what it is and delivers every time. Syd was great! The xiao long bao are the reason you come. The skin is thin enough to see the broth moving inside, and it holds together just long enough for you to get it to your mouth without disaster. That is the test and they pass it. The pork chop arrives with a satisfying crust and the kind of seasoning that makes you slow down and pay attention. The string beans are bright, garlicky, and cooked just right, still with a little snap, stir fried with mushrooms and carrots in a light sauce that does not overpower them. Fried rice is simple and solid, exactly what fried rice should be. The tea does its job quietly in the background. This is not a place that tries to impress you with presentation. It impresses you with repetition and consistency, which is actually harder. The room is no nonsense, the service is efficient, and the food lands the way it should every single time. Music was great! Ambiance was warm. If you live in the Sunset and have not been, that is a gap worth closing. If you are coming from elsewhere, it is worth the trip.

Flavor was overall ok... like average. My critic is that all my food was served lukewarm to almost cold, which is a no-no for XLB and noodles soup. 2.8/5 Service was not good... we went on a weekday and there wasn't a wait. We saw plenty of empty tables and were standing at their door waiting for someone to sit us. Multiple staff noticed us with eye contacts but just passed by. We figured they were busy at the moment, but it ended up to be a pretty long wait. At one point, all the staff left the front and did not come back out for a while. We were just standing.... (Could have just told us to sit ourselves since there were plenty empty tables and there was no line...?) After being sat, we were given the menu and were told they would come back. We waited a long time again to get their attention. (Again, it wasn't busy and maybe only 5 tables of customers at that time) I saw some of the staff sat down at a table chatting... maybe on a break? But you can let whoever on duty to know there are new customers just sat before you leave your shift... Anyway, there was another wait in order to pay. This restaurant is inside the mall on the second floor. It's quite big and spacious. I probably won't come back because of this experience tho.

I came to try Supreme Dumpling, which basically felt like a Din Tai Fung dupe, late on a Saturday night, and I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, the soup dumplings and the hot and sour soup were authentic and tasted delicious. I'd happily go back again and again for these two items. On the other hand, the service was abysmal. There were so many dirty tables that weren't bussed and so many empty seats, and yet we still had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Then, our servers took a long time to take our order and our chili oil didn't even have a spoon in it. I was very underwhelmed by the service. Maybe it was late on a Saturday night, but I still find it pretty inexcusable. Maybe come try this place when it's less busy and see if it's better.

We came here to eat after watching a movie at the Regal nearby. The place was pretty empty ( there were 2 other parties) but the host chose the sit us next to a group of young ladies who were talking pretty loud. So we asked to be seated a few tables away. I have been to the Kirkland location many times and this is quite different. Much smaller menu. We tried the Wagyu dumplings, and I have to say we like the original better. The spicy wontons, not enough shrimp in there. The wild mushroom fried rice was good, the green beans dish was excellent and the pork chop was ok. Service was non existent. Servers brought the dishes to the table but never came to ask if we need to order anything else. We wanted to add the walnuts shrimp but there was nobody around

The dumplings are good, but surprisingly the stars of the show for me were the pork chop fried rice and tan tan noodles. The green beans were also unassuming and delicious! 10/10 for those three items! We also got their frozen lemonades, which were pretty good and reasonably priced tbh! The service was quick, Syd was a great server, and the restaurant is way bigger on the inside than I expected. Overall a positive experience and I would come back again!

Food tasted nice and fresh. Service was good. At the entrance there is a kiosk to place your to go orders if you're already at the restaurant. Very nice option. The restaurant looked nice and modern. Overall a nice place to eat in a mall. 4.5 shrimp and pork wonton noodle soup. Broth had a nice flavor. Good amount of wontons and noodles which both tasted good. $15 not a bad price for the mall. 4 stars black pepper beef rice. Generous on the pepper. Everything tasted good. $22 wish there was a little more food, but not complaining about the taste. Was good for mall food. 5 stars spicy imperial braised beef bun. Tasted good and fresh. Mild spice and for $9 not bad.

Considering how insanely popular (and delicious) they are, it's no surprise that more and more restaurants like Din Tai Fung are starting to sprout up. Not that they're new and/or direct copycats, but they're undeniably similar and are increasingly expanding out here. Which, to be clear, is fantastic not only because it makes our food scene that much better, but because, whether it be Din Tai Fung, Supreme Dumpling, or anyone like them, it's just awesome to have that many more places like them around! Ahead of their opening last year, it'd be fair to say there was a lot of hype and anticipation for Supreme Dumpling's first location outside of Washington. Not only does the restaurant look great (way more modern and trendy-ish than most neighborhood Chinese joints in SF), but the menu does as well. Much like Din Tai Fung, the xiao long baos here are the signature dish to get, but the rest of the menu has plenty of intriguing items to offer as well. Whether it be their variety of small plates, like their Fried Pork Chop, Spicy Cucumbers, and Wontons, noodle dishes, noodle soups, entrees, or desserts, there are just so many intriguing things to try! -- SPICY CUCUMBER SALAD Not perfect, but still pretty darn good. While some of the cucumbers weren't as crispy as others, I thought they were fine for the most part and the dish had a lot of flavor to it. The pieces on the bottom felt a little salty, though. -- SUPREME PORK XIAO LONG BAO All in all, this was pretty awesome. Each XLB was like a pouch of flavor - the filling was so porky and there was so much soup inside. Most impressively, the skins were super thin and tender yet still strong enough to not fall apart. -- SZECHUAN SPICY XIAO LONG BAO As a whole, this was pretty solid. Like the classic/supreme version, the skins were soft and each piece was super plump. That said, this didn't have the sort of mouth numbing spice I'm used to from Szechuan peppercorns. -- MINI PAN FRIED DUMPLINGS Not quite as good as I had hoped it would be, but not far from terrific either. Mostly, I wish the filling had been soupier, much like the Xiao Long Bao, but I still found it flavorful and I love how the skins were so thin (unlike the thick and bready ones out there). -- FRIED PORK CHOP This was one of the dishes I was most excited for and, thankfully, it was pretty solid. Despite how the batter wasn't as crisp as I thought it'd be, the pork chop was decently juicy and really well seasoned. -- WILD MUSHROOM FRIED RICE A little pricey for how much you get, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't taste good. The rice was soft and cooked perfectly and I appreciate that they didn't skimp on the mushrooms (relative to the portion size). -- SUPREME TANTAN NOODLES Ehh. I can see why some folks might like this, but I thought it was just okay. The noodles had a nice bite to them and this came with a fair amount of meat and veggies, but there was a lot of sauce and the taste of peanut in it was really strong. -- STIR FRY SEASONAL GREENS WITH GARLIC Pretty tasty, but, to be honest, it's also a simple dish, so it'd be kind of hard to mess this up. While I do wish this had a bit more oyster sauce and/or soy sauce, the yu choy miu was fresh and very garlicky. Yum! -- RED BEAN XIAO LONG BAO Not sure if this is still offered, but, while I appreciate its uniqueness and that it didn't taste too shabby, one piece was enough for me. The skin was fine, and I liked the red bean paste, but the filling felt super thick and dense. Beyond the food, service here has been pretty solid as well. While it did feel like they were eager to turn our table over by the end of our meal the first time we were here, it made since our group was in one of their larger booths. Yet, the rest of the time, we never felt rushed even though it was the peak of the lunch hour on a Saturday and the servers were super responsive and attentive. Even though they aren't nearly as busy as they were before, they can still draw a crowd here on weekends, so make a reservation if you can or just wander the mall while you wait. Either way, even though they may not be quite on the same level for me as Din Tai Fung (like a notch below), Supreme Dumpling is well worth a visit!

First time trying this place! I was able to book through here, which was convenient. We got three dishes: tantan noodles, Szechuan xiao long bao, and pork chop fried rice. For me, the tantan noodles were a bit too salty, but I loved all the ingredients they used. The xiao long bao was okay, nothing special. It tasted pretty typical to me. I highly recommend the pork chop fried rice It was one of the best I have ever had. I can see why it is such a popular dish. I loved how the pork was fried with its skin rather than with breadcrumbs like usual. It felt really unique, and the fried rice itself was also delicious.

Brief Summary: - Located on the second floor of Stonestown Galleria, near Kura Sushi - Pork xiao long bao broth has a deep flavor - Fried rice is unique and was a big favorite in the family - Waitlist style is via the kiosk (can be done with yelp too) - Amazed how the steamed dishes were served; just the right temperature We went here because we wanted to celebrate an occasion, and while discussing with the family, we immediately chose here. When we arrived there was a waitlist, so we entered our name and wandered around in the mall until we were called. The estimate time when we arrived was around 20-30 minutes, and this was a good estimate. While we window-shopped, we were called before we decided on buying something. We ordered a couple of dishes alongside some hot tea. The dishes came around at a good time, and we requested the limited edition chocolate xiao long bao once we were done. Our favorite was the fried rice. I loved the flavor, and I also loved how the egg whites looked like small little pearls. It was beautiful to the eyes as well as to the taste. I also loved the supreme pork xiao long bao, particularly the soup. There was a noticeable complexity that stood out from the other xiao long baos I have tried in the past. The chocolate xiao long bao was fun. It was like eating a pocket of a rich hot chocolate. A subtle but extraordinary gesture was how these steamed food was served. I had countless of moments where I ate them too fast, and they burned my tongue. This, while the fishes were steaming and hot, they were just right, the absolutely perfect temperature to eat safely. We were amazed at this, so we didn't need to wait for them to cool; we can eat them right away. I had a very good food experience, and I would love to visit here again, for celebratory or when I'm feeling like eating the fried rice and dumplings here again.

Took the fam to Round 1 and wanted to give this spot a try after hearing such good things. We really enjoy XLBs so it was a no brainer. We made reservations a few hours in advance for a party of 6 and were seated right at the time of our reservation on a Friday @7pm. We ordered just about everything on the menu it felt like haha, XLBs, pork chop fried rice, spicy wontons, pan fried dumplings, honey walnut shrimp, tan tan noodles, kids meal noodles, and a beef roll. Overall everything was really good. I enjoyed each item I tasted, with my favorite surprisingly being the beef roll. Though, you really can't miss ordering the XLBs. It was busy, but the restaurant wasn't too loud. Server was nice but not that attentive as we had to keep flagging her down for things. Overall it was a great meal. Will come back when we're in the area for sure.

Finally got to try Supreme Dumpling after hearing lots of hype about this spot. Wasn't crowded on a Friday for lunch and service was attentive. Atmosphere is nice and welcoming. Menu is pretty simple. Overall, food was fine - nothing outstanding. Definitely have had better XLB at other places like Din Ding. I preferred the spicy pork XLB over the regular ones. I wouldn't recommend the chocolate XLB unless you don't mind a burst of milk chocolate - it was too sweet for me. Everything else was just average at best for me - I wouldn't go again.

Our party of 4 decided to come for a late lunch around 3 pm on a Sunday and it was around a 30 minute wait before we were seated. The inside has a decent amount of seating and the restaurant to the pretty plating they used was very bright and aesthetic. Chinese Braised Tofu - This was my favorite appetizer from our meal. It was the most interesting texture, it felt hollow and plush yet had a nice bite to it. It soaked in the savory sauce very well. Drunken Chilled Chicken - The chicken was cooked nicely and chilled so it made the dish very refreshing and soft. Very light in flavor and how filling it was. Spicy Imperial Braised Beef Bun - Wasn't too sure to be expecting from this dish but it was packed with flavor. From the bun that had crunchy layers to the soft braised beef and fresh vegetables, it was a mix of flavors and textures with a good spice level. Supreme Xiao Long Bao - A classic must get dish. What stood out about their xiao long baos is the soup, it had such a rich pork flavor that came through and the skin was so thin yet held the fillings well. Mini Pan Fried Dumplings - So cute and small. It was piping hot and had a deep pork flavor similar to the xiao long bao. Beef Roll - It was decent but not sure I would get it again. It was like a rolled up scallion pancake added with very soft beef and sweet hoisin sauce. It could have been a little crispier and it fell apart too easily. Supreme Tan Tan Noodles - Probably one of my favorite tan tan noodles I've had. It had a strong peanut flavor that came through and a kick of spice that paired well with the chewy noodles, soft meat and the crunchy cucumbers and nuts. Overall, we enjoyed trying a variety of their dishes and being happily surprised by the different textures and flavors. I would highly recommend it if you're at Stonestown to check it out.

The XLB arrived at the perfect temp and held together. The pan fried dumplings had crispy golden bottoms, exactly as expected. The drunken chilled chicken leaned more herbal but was still enjoyable. The spicy wontons had a balanced flavor. The mushroom fried rice was delicious, slightly on the moist side, yet well executed, no mushiness one bit. The frozen strawberry passion fruit lemonade was refreshing. Syd, our server, was kind and attentive throughout. One small oversight was that the sauce dish was offered after we had already begun eating, likely due to the busy Saturday evening rush. Dishes arrived promptly, one at a time. Overall, I enjoyed the quality of the food and the great service. I would return.

The owners, the Shen family, are retiring. When they opened in 2008, replacing two popular Chinese western food restaurants, they were a refreshing addition to the mainly Cantonese cuisine Chinatown community. There was only a small Shanghai literal hole in the wall spot across the street that closed many years ago. The mom did the cooking while the daughter ran the front of the house, literally producing home style Shanghainese cuisine. They have regular normal northern cuisine favorites like hot & sour soup and mapo tofu, small bites like XLB (soup dumplings), green onion pancakes, and Sheng jian bao (pan fried dumplings). I often had family style dinners here enjoying Shanghai staples like Lion's head meatballs, Shanghai stir fried shrimp (use that blank vinegar), braised pork shank, and stir-fried eel. Never had the pleasure in trying their Dong Po pork. Get their steamed rice with bacon and vegetable to accompany those saucy dishes. With their departure, I do not know of any authentic Shanghai restaurants in San Francisco... clue me in if you think of one. The spicy lamb dumplings were another highlight, with an incredibly thin wrapper and a super flavorful and not gamey at all lamb filling. I also loved the stir fried rice cakes, which were sliced thin enough to avoid that overly chewy texture, and the stir fried noodles Shanghai style were classic and simple in the best way, with big chunks of cabbage and meat and just executed really (the chefs clearly have some serious wok skills!). Not everything we ordered was an absolute knockout as the vegetable dishes could use a bit more flavor and seasoning, but everything overall was good, and the portions across the board were very generous. The desserts were a last-minute decision and I am so glad we went for them. The lava custard buns were fluffy and amazing, with a molten salted egg custard inside, and the sesame balls had a satisfyingly crispy exterior that gave way to a perfectly chewy interior and sweet red bean filling. It also made the experience feel more social -- I ended up chatting with the people to my right and left about the food. Everything we ordered was really good. Their popular dry fried chicken absolutely lived up to the hype and was probably my favorite thing on the menu... besides the cherry pork. I feel like nobody talks about the cherry pork enough! It was SO good -- kind of like a sweet-and-sour pork without the sour. I dipped it in soy sauce because I loved the sweet and salty combo together. The dumplings were also really good. The wrapper was thin and delicious, but my boyfriend said he wished they had a little more protein filling and less leek. The green beans are always a hit. The only thing I probably wouldn't order again was the black bean sauce noodles. Maybe I just expected a different flavor, but to me they honestly tasted like regular lo mein. I'm also not a huge noodle person in general, so I'd probably skip them next time and order something else instead. Forgot to mention their prices are on point! Definitely recommend to any of the tourists. I think the weight is definitely worth it and I love being able to take home my leftovers and eating them for lunch and dinner the next day.
