    Juicy Pork Bao

For my Dad's birthday, he requested dumplings. With our plans starting in the Mission, I suggested we dine at Dumpling Story. I've been to their other locations but not to this one, and we all left happy and full! This Dumpling Story location is easy to pass by but deceiving in size. It's sleek and stylish decor-wise. The vibes are super casual, which is nice. They have a bar with seating, a large table in the middle, and smaller tables. We were one of the first customers, having come in at opening, but it got busy fast! Service was good, and food came out fast. We shared everything family style. We ordered: Crab and Pork Xiao Long Bao, Shrimp and Squash Xiao Long Bao, Vegetable Dumplings, Juicy Pork Bao, and House Special Sesame Paste Noodles. What I enjoy is the overall consistency and quality of their items compared to those at their other restaurants. My personal favorites were the pork dumplings we ordered. The pan-fried part was crispy, and the steamed ones were juicy and flavorful. The shrimp and squash lacked flavor, as if they were cut-up pieces thrown into a dumpling. I recommend getting their pork dumplings! If you're in the mood for dumplings in the Mission District, I recommend Dumpling Story. They have sister restaurants across the country, so it's great to see them expanding! Great food, service, and ambiance. I'd love to come back! Find them off Valencia Street with street parking in the area.

I've had many soup dumplings... and this is by far one of the best soup dumplings I've ever had. The size is good! Not small, and the broth is SO delicious!!! So flavorful! Would def come back here again, i highly recommend these soup dumplings! The cucumber was also super flavorful and tasty! We also tried the gourd with shrimp, but ah I'm not big on gourd, so it was just ok to me. Besides the food, the vibe here is so pretty, love the plants And the waiters were really attentive to us and constantly refilled our waters Overall- great food spot! Yummy!

I walked in and immediately I can feel that this was not the best decision... but I wanted to give it a shot. Sat down and wanted to get this cold noodle that was displayed outside so I wanted to get that . They say they are sold out, mind you it is the noon so I was confused how it could be sold ? But it's ok. Anyways, I got the pan fried dumplings and the boiled dumplings (bc they were out of the cold noodles). We get the Napa cabbage and pork dumpling (the most common order and SIMPLEST) & they give us this peanut pork dumplings Like omfg imagine we were severely allergic to PEANUTS. Not only that but those dumplings ruined my appetite so bad because it tasted so bad... The food was not good at all. Please be aware that this restaurant is rate soooo high due to the free food you get. Tell me why that was better than the food we had to pay for :(

Without intending to, I ended up at this place to enjoy my New Year's lunch. I had an enjoyable experience. The staff are friendly, and although it looks small from the outside, it's pretty spacious, clean, and tidy inside. Also, you can see the kitchen in the back and watch your order being prepared. I can say that the dishes' flavors and seasonings are on point, and they have a good selection of vegetarian options at affordable prices. If you're in the area, you definitely have to try this place.

I love Dumpling Story! This is my second time coming back for the Dan Dan house special sesame noodles. They were so good my partner even tried to remake them at home! Their dumplings and xiao long bao are also very tasty.

I love this place!!! They're super consistent on food quality, taste, and good service!!!!!! I always look forward to bringing friends here: The good: braised beef noodle, green beans, all their dumplings are perfect The bad: nothing!!!

We had no wait on a Monday night and were served very quickly. We ordered the pork xlb and pan friend juicy chicken baos. The xlbs were bigger than usual and the portions were filling. Great to have as the weather gets colder. I will say though that the pork and chicken didn't taste much different, nothing to write home about. Restaurant was very great for a casual dinner to catch up with friends. I will say that the prices are a bit pricier than other xlb places I've been to in the bay.

I love a dumpling spot with plenty of non-pork options! We visited Dumpling Story on a Sunday (late) afternoon and got seated almost immediately. The interior decor was simple but stylish, with plants and funky lighting fixtures. For drinks, I got a Iced Jasmine Tea, which was predictably good. We ordered a bunch of items to share - the Beef Xiao Long Bao, Shrimp & Gourd Bao, Juicy Chicken Bao, Fresh Cucumber with Garlic Sauce, and Tomato & Egg Noodles. Everything was fantastic! The Bao were incredible hot and juicy, and the XLB were flavorful with great texture. The Fresh Cucumber was refreshing and great for contrast from the rest of our meal. I wasn't sure what to expect from the Tomato & Egg Noodles, but I ended up loving them. The flavors went so well together! Service was friendly and fast. Would return for more!

Came here for date night and WOW! Everything was so tasty! I don't think you can go wrong with anything off the menu. We got about 5 items and it was all just great. Can't wait to come back.

We were on a dumpling crawl on a Friday afternoon, and this ended up being our last stop and easily the top one. The ambience really stood out: tastefully done, clean, and inviting without trying too hard. Service was quick and efficient, which is always appreciated when you're hopping between spots. We tried the Chicken Soup Dumpling (Xi Bao) and the Boiled Shiitake Mushroom & Chicken Dumpling. The dumpling skin here was the thinnest of all the places we tried that day, which immediately set them apart. Personally, I enjoyed the shiitake mushroom & chicken dumpling more, it had a richer, tastier bite. The soup dumplings were very juicy and felt authentic, but the chicken filling itself was quite mild. Perfectly cooked, just lightly seasoned, simple and clean, but a bit more flavor would have taken it to the next level. Overall, a fantastic stop for dumpling lovers and a great way to end a dumpling crawl. Would happily come back. One small thing to note: the dishes on the menu card are tightly placed, so it's easy to mis-mark items. We intended to select the chicken (8 pieces) but accidentally marked the pork & shrimp dumplings as well. The manager was kind and quick to fix it, which we really appreciated.

Dumpling Story on Valencia Street in The Mission District. E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T !!!! We were at @missionpethospital for our senior rescue dog Winnie, not feeling well. She was being watched, so Hagit and I were seeking a late lunch. We didn't have to go too far. Only a block away is Dumping Story (Previously Luna Park). Our server Duke was very attentive and all the restaurant team was very good, friendly and made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. ALL our selections were incredible and some of best dumplings we have EVER had, and given we ate them often, that's a remarkable statement. Yes, we order too many items by my wife and I both have ADHD! We love sampling menus and other customers on the long table we shared were equally impressed by the beauty of the various variety of dumplings. Go visit IRL! It well worth it!

The location is great. It's near many other restaurants and businesses right near the Jazz district. Mainly street parking is available but there is a parking garage not too far from this spot. Also, there are bus stops nearby for public transit options The service was great. Our server was very friendly and came by multiple times to make sure we were satisfied with our meal. The interior of the restaurant was modern and also comforting. They had nice music playing in the background to fill the vibe. The flavor of the food was delicious. The baos reminded me of soup baos with how the inside had a hot soup in them. The crispiness of the wontons were amazing. The sauce and ginger they provide really accentuates the meal and I'm not even a big ginger guy. The portions are on the smaller side. You might need to order a couple of entrees or appetizers to get comfortable. Additionally, you can expect to walk out of here for about $40 for a meal for two making this a ($$$) for me. Bottom line/TLDR: fantastic soup baos and service

Normally, I would write this in the "Tips" section but it's no longer available…read more I am sad to share that this restaurant will close on 6/15/25, final day of service. The owners, the Shen family, are retiring. When they opened in 2008, replacing two popular Chinese western food restaurants, they were a refreshing addition to the mainly Cantonese cuisine Chinatown community. There was only a small Shanghai literal hole in the wall spot across the street that closed many years ago. The mom did the cooking while the daughter ran the front of the house, literally producing home style Shanghainese cuisine. They have regular normal northern cuisine favorites like hot & sour soup and mapo tofu, small bites like XLB (soup dumplings), green onion pancakes, and Sheng jian bao (pan fried dumplings). I often had family style dinners here enjoying Shanghai staples like Lion's head meatballs, Shanghai stir fried shrimp (use that blank vinegar), braised pork shank, and stir-fried eel. Never had the pleasure in trying their Dong Po pork. Get their steamed rice with bacon and vegetable to accompany those saucy dishes. With their departure, I do not know of any authentic Shanghai restaurants in San Francisco... clue me in if you think of one. The closest that comes to mind now is in San Mateo off the top of my head. Thank you, Bund Shanghai and Shen Family for providing my family, my coworkers, and me many meals over the years. You will be sorely missed but enjoy your retirement.

If you find yourself here, do order the stir-fried eel, XLB, pickle and ham steamed rice, and the Sheng Jian Bao. Overall, it was worth a visit and hope the area gets more Shanghai cuisine in the near future.

The staff were friendly and super prompt about clearing empty plates and refilling our tea whenever we signaled it was done, which is always great as the dishes just get on coming! We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, and several really stood out. The spicy tendon was fantastic, shredded paper thin and swimming in a classic spicy sauce. The spicy lamb dumplings were another highlight, with an incredibly thin wrapper and a super flavorful and not gamey at all lamb filling. I also loved the stir fried rice cakes, which were sliced thin enough to avoid that overly chewy texture, and the stir fried noodles Shanghai style were classic and simple in the best way, with big chunks of cabbage and meat and just executed really (the chefs clearly have some serious wok skills!). Not everything we ordered was an absolute knockout as the vegetable dishes could use a bit more flavor and seasoning, but everything overall was good, and the portions across the board were very generous. The desserts were a last-minute decision and I am so glad we went for them. The lava custard buns were fluffy and amazing, with a molten salted egg custard inside, and the sesame balls had a satisfyingly crispy exterior that gave way to a perfectly chewy interior and sweet red bean filling. The value here is also excellent. We left absolutely stuffed and spent around $30 per person, which felt like a great deal for how much food we got and how much we enjoyed it. Highly recommend!
