I want to give a "re-up" good review for Superior Repair in Burien after I had my oil changed there this morning. We've been dealing with Superior since they did the gaskets and seals on a used Legacy we bought about 5 years ago. I am not necessarily brand loyal to Subaru but would make my next car one simply for the sake of having Superior be our mechanic. I've dealt with dealerships and other make-specific shops with other cars and the difference is clear. They're ready when they say , they're nice and helpful when you arrive and even go so far as to do things like test drive after an oil change to make sure everything's good to go. They always do a little check of the car for other issues when it's in and then clearly explain why they recommend any repairs they do. I've never felt as if they're trying to talk me into unnecessary work and they've actually talked me out of work that I thought I needed. They also are very reasonably priced and will use the most cost efficient parts that they can stand behind. If you live anywhere in the vicinity it's worth taking your Subaru to them. read more

Best of the best! Really wish I had come the Superior Repair sooner. I had gotten a comprehensive inspection with Tom's Automotive. It was a popular and highly recommended shop on the West Seattle Connection group on FB. And I could see how folks would recommend it - the people were kind and I got a professional breakdown of repairs, etc. That being said, after the inspection I received a list of items that needed to be repaired that totaled up to $10k, and they tried upselling me on at least getting $2k worth of repairs at a bare minimum and said the others could wait. I ended up spending $600 on a repair that they said was necessary to get the car safely out of the lot, and then took it to Superior Repair a shop that specializes in Subarus to get a second opinion on the rest. Rob at Superior Repair was kind, professional, humble, and after a few hours of me dropping the car off, went over the list in detail on why each item was an issue, items in my car that had been incorrectly installed in the past, and told me honestly what repairs were needed and what repairs would only last me until the next thing broke. He came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth me putting more money into the car as certain repairs wouldn't outlast, the other more expensive ones and the costs to fix all the issues were more than the amount that the car was worth. So glad I didn't listen to Tom's Automotive to invest in repairs that would only go to waste in a couple months and wish I would've gone to Superior Repair to begin with. They really know Subarus inside and out, and are good-hearted honest guys that won't take your money for the sake of it and will give you a straight answer. If you have a Subaru, I highly recommend taking it to Superior Repair. They pride themselves on being Subaru experts and the conversations I had between them and the other repair shop were night and day and confirmed this. If I get another Subaru - I wouldn't trust it with another else. read more

We took our car here (2006 Subaru Impreza) after a brand name Subaru service dealer quoted us $3,500 in repair needing new head gaskets, replace leaking valve cover gaskets, new CV joint boot covers, new transmission fluid and filter, spark plugs and wires. Rob took the car in and examined all the required work by the Subaru dealer. Rob came back with the valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and wires, transmission filter/oil need replacement for around $450.00. The head gaskets had s light oil leak and did not need replacement (Rob said lets watch the head gaskets, maybe in another 15k to 30k miles need replaced). Here is a good one from the dealer. Rob said both CV joint boot covers were in good condition and did not need replaced. The mechanic at brand Subaru dealer service did not notice a loose clamp that caused the oil leak. Rob tightened for free. On May 6 I noticed our 2006 Impreza had a left hand headlight bulb burned out. Rob replaced both at great price. Thank you for taking care of my wife and her car. My wife said her car runs fantastic after the work was completed by Superior and I 2nd it after driving the car myself. She loves her little pony ride as she calls it. I will take my 2005 Impreza to the Superior team for future work. Thank you! read more

We have been taking our Subaru's here for YEARS! 2004 Forester and a 2006 Baja. Why I have not previously written a review is beyond us and our apologies to Steve and Rob. The bottom line is...if you own a Subaru take it to Superior Repair. They know Subaru's inside and out. They have NEVER suggested work or repairs that have not been needed and have kept our Subaru's running through 150,000 plus miles. These AWESOME mechanics, and guys, are the main reason we will continue to purchase Subaru's until we move out of the area or die. read more

Why, oh why are there only five stars? Having my 1996 Subaru wagon serviced at Superior Repair is the best car servicing experience I have ever had. They took time to explain what they were going to do, worked with me to get it as economically viable as possible, and even took the time to show me what they replaced and why. Noisy ball bearings and shiny timing belts are bad, people. For that reason I would like to recommend everybody in the greater Seattle area with a Subaru to take it to these guys. Of course, my problem is that if too many people go there, then it will be more difficult for me to get an appointment when I want or need. But I guess that is a luxury problem. Bottom line. If you have a Subaru that needs servicing, you cannot go wrong with these guys. Friendly and fair service. And they seem to love what they do. I'm coming back. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. I called to make an appointment a week ago. The guy said over the phone they open at 830 so come in anytime after that (for an oil change, basic service) I showed up the following Monday for my so called appointment at 915am. Not even a hi , how are you or how can I help you. Just a "You're supposed to be here at 830 we blew past you". I look around and there's nobody there. I was so confused as to what he was trying to say but his expression and body language said it all. The man wasn't even wearing a mask while he was talking to me nor did he try to put a mask on as there were none in sight. I guess my money wasn't good enough for him because he didn't even offer to reschedule with me. Simply the best. Before leaving Seattle a few months ago, I had been a loyal customer for over 12 years. As mechanics, Steve and Rob are as good as they come: Honest, straightforward, and really good at what they do. They always gave me a fair estimate for their work and sometimes even did it for less than they quoted. They'll never hesitate to explain exactly what they did in the repair; Steve has literally walked me through repairs, old/replaced parts in hand, and given me an education in how my Subaru works and why a given repair was done the way it was. I appreciate their commitment to doing great, honest work every time. Before I moved to Colorado a few months back, Steve even did the homework for me to find a good Subaru shop in my new town. This shop replaced the clutch throw-out bearing on my '15 Forester. It should have lasted more than 87k miles (clutch parts on my Toyota and Honda lasted over 150k miles), but there is a plastic part in there that seems to cut the life. Steve, the owner, showed me the seized bearing that was removed. He seems to know everything about Subarus down to the last detail. It doesn't look like much, but it is a great, honest shop. I hope he and his old Subies in the yard are there another 20 years. read more

I want to give a huge public thank you to Superior Repair in Burien!! My car's transmission failed a while back, and the repair process was fraught with complications (not their fault). Without going into details, I will just say that they went above and beyond to remedy the situation and I'm happy to report that my car is back and better than ever! To all my fellow Subaru owners, I can not recommend this shop enough. They are highly skilled, knowledgable, with a level of integrity unmatched by many in their industry. Sad, had my oil changed here 2 weeks ago. Usually I would do this myself but it was a new car and Chapmans subaru had messed up the tire rotation so I wanted someone to check the filter and drain plug. Silly of me. #1 they did not have the needed oil filter fortunately I had one from subaru, they also did not have the oil, went to a parts store for it. (I had an appointment, they knew the make and model). Eh I figured bad hair day and let it go. #2 1 week after oil change start using lots of oil. These guys have been great so I start to look at blown seals, head gaskets etc. Nope, oil filter was installed way to tight. The paint is rubbed off on the bottom of the filter. Oil is all over the underside of the car car stinks of burnt oil. (3 quarts in 3 days less than 50 miles). I call, we can fit you in tuesday (4 days from now). With help I figgure out it is the filter buy new filter and replace. Spend long time cleaning oil so smell stops. I call report my suspicions, "Oh we would not have done that". No apology just denial. We have done business with these guys for 7 years, they rebuilt an engine. Now they don't care. Same 2 guys seem really nice, I just don't get it. Everyone makes mistakes, this was the first (and sadly the last) with us. An Im sorry we will take care of it right away, offer of free oil change and explanation of how they will make sure it would not happen again and I probably would have stuck with them. But I dont think I will now. Pity. Anyone know a good subaru mechanic? Im looking. read more

When I moved to Seattle in 1996, I took my Subaru to several different mechanics before finding Steve and Rob, and I have taken my Subaru to them ever since -- even during periods when I lived briefly in Portland and Bellingham. I currently live in Everett, 40 miles away, but I am absolutely confident that they are the best people to take care of my car. They do things right the first time, are completely honest, give fantastic advice, and have very fair prices. I also like that their shop is right on the Metro 120 (every 15 minutes to Downtown Seattle, all day), as well as on a half-hourly Sound Transit bus to the airport, so it's easy to drop my car and head back into town for work, or to leave it with them to get something done while I'm out of town for a few days. I agree, these "subaru guys" are really great. I have had a series of issues with my 2001 Outback, some issues related to paid-for repairs and maintenance that were never done (ugggh). Steve and Rob expertly repaired my car, discussed at length other items that would need attention and actually took the time to not only listen to me, but educate me as well. I wish I had known about them sooner, but, as a dedicated Subee owner, it is unlikely I will go elsewhere. Thank you, Steve and Rob, for being honest, hardworking and genuinely kind people. These guys must be the best kept secret in Seattle, and I can't rave enough about them. I discovered them a couple of years ago when I thought my '96 Subaru Legacy had finally bit the proverbial dust. I had taken my car to several shops with a weird occasional power loss problem that no one could seem to diagnose. The problem got worse, and after taking the car to another Japanese auto repair shop, I was told 2 cylinders would need to be replaced, around $2500. I was actively shopping for new vehicles when I found reviews for Superior on cartalk.com, and decided to give diagnosis one last shot. I took my car to Steve and Rob, and they diagnosed a faulty coil, suggested I get a used part, and the total bill was $128. My car is still running beautifully, and each time I take my car in for service, these guys are quick, professional, prices are great, and they never sell me anything I don't need. If you own a Subaru, Superior is the place to go! read more

A very genuine crew over at Superior Repair. I had contacted them a few weeks ago to get an estimate on replacing my rear brakes. Mentioned I may try it myself and Steve offered for me to bring it by to show me what I'll be dealing with. I didn't end up taking his offer. However, after I changed my brakes I brought it by for him to look at and to fix if need be. I left him with parts to do my front brakes if need be. Two hours later he called me up and told me the back brakes were fine, and the front had 90% life. He went ahead and fixed a few problems I had without asking, which was extremely unexpected. My heat shield rattled so loud that you could hear yourself think. He fixed that issue and also another issue below my vehicle that was causing noise. I asked him what the cost of everything was and he said it was free! When I picked up my car we went over a few repairs that were coming up for me in the future. Mainly my timing belts, drive belts, and a few things that're close to failing but have a few thousand miles left on them. I will definitely be back to my next repair and have recommended this shop to all of my friends who own Subarus. read more
