Walking in we were greeted by Salma & Lilliana. The wow factor was immediately at 10. Their energy passed the vibe check from the word go. We sat at the bar and were welcomed by Murika. Her positivity and approachability were second to none. She was there at every moment that we needed help & she made it almost seem effortless. She's got this really interesting way of being present and available but also not intrusive or pushy. Her service was so good that it was totally void of the transactional style conversation you get with most other people in the service industry. She's definitely got a gift and is an asset to the program at Superica. The offerings speak for themselves and the quality is on par for the value in what you're given. Beyond that even. This place is a gem in Houston and I can't wait to go back. Rett was behind the bar and had plenty to say he too was a pleasant and refreshing person to be around. Always love to stumble upon a place we have never heard of and give it a chance. We stopped in on a Friday evening. It shares the parking lot (valet only) with another restaurant so that took me a second to process. I was there a little before dinner rush, so was seated right away. Food: First thing we tried were the chips and salsa provided. The chips were hard and the salsas flavor, while not horrible, they were just not enjoyable to eat (that's when I knew I was in trouble for the rest of our meal). I ordered Tostadas with Ceviche, they were okay, nothing horrible but also not great. The other person with me ordered the Steak Nachos, we were caught off guard when they arrived and the Steak on the Nacho chips were huge. You basically had to eat the Steak piece on its own and then the chip, no way you could easily eat it together. The steak needs to be in smaller pieces, like everyone else does it. If you order them, ask for a Steak knife you'll need it. Drinks: I ordered the Pomegranate Margarita...I didn't even finish it. The flavoring was very interesting and lacking, now I am a Margarita expert so maybe I'm just too picky but i don't recommend trying this one. Table also ordered a Skinny Margarita...again it was lackluster. Not sure exactly what they are putting in these Margaritas. Also our drink order took a very long time to arrive, did appreciate that someone (maybe Manager) let us know they were struggling with the drinks coming out. I have long awaited coming to visit Superica and we finally made the drive in from Pearland. I was super excited to try the Black and White coffee (iced coffee with horchata), but sadly it left much to the imagination. It was watered down and instead of tasting the horchata, it just tasted like Katz cinnamon coffee. Pretty disappointing. Chips and salsa were good, salsa has a good flavor but no heat whatsoever. Chilaquiles and migas were delicious! We also got a side of the Mexican sausage and it was really good as well. All in all, we'd come back to try dinner and have brunch again. read more

They brought us a second batch of chips after 30 mins or so even though we weren't even halfway through the first batch. And those weren't salted. So why was the first batch salted? Super! This place is hopping on a Friday night - the bar area is so packed with patrons waiting for a table it is almost silly. But that should be a good indication of how great this place is - people will wait 45min - 1hr for a table just to enjoy the amazing food! Came here on a weeknight and we were immediately seated at peak 7:00pm dining. Love the ambiance - rustic yet sophisticated. Started with the blood orange marg, which I loved! App was queso fundido, which was amazing. Loved how stringy the cheese was. Such a blast to eat. We shared the chicken, beef, bacon wrapped shrimp fajita platter and got refried and brown beans, along with both flour and corn tortillas. This was a feast for 2! Also added the puffy tortilla, which was underwhelming, but possibly b/c we waited a few min to eat it and it should have been enjoyed upon arrival to the table. The outside seating area was lovely and entire staff was so hospitable! Superica has the BEST savory chicken tortilla soup and their freshly blended red and green sauces started the meal off right. Queso topped w/ cilantro had levels of flavor you won't find at any regular restaurant. Only two things we noticed that was a surprising is that in our order of Barbacoa street tacos, only 2 small tacos were plated and we expected a little more for a $16 dish. And I noticed by the taste of my O.G. Margarita that it was not made w/ real lime juice which was a little disappointing in comparison to the authentic and fresh flavors of the rest of our meal. Decided to finally try this place as I was craving some Tex Mex food. First off, the parking situation is great, especially when you consider the area that it's in has horrible parking in other establishments. When entering we were greeted by the friendly host and were sat immediately. The host served us our drinks and there were salsa cups in the middle. Our first issue here was with cleanliness. The cup I was given for water had food residue on it, as well as the salsa cups. Our server seemed uninterested in us at first. She forgot our drink order/ food order and she seemed very cold toward us. She was more attentive with us as the dinner continued. Now onto the food. I will start with the star of the show. The Puffy Chicken Tacos!These three puffy chicken tacos had chicken tinga, lettuce, cheese, and tomato. The freshly made by hand tortilla was spectacular!The tinga was flavorful and I enjoyed this dish so much. The queso was not my favorite I didn't really like the flavor. The tacos al carbon were okay, as were the refried and charro beans. The rice was too mushy, and the chips they gave us did not taste fresh. The food is very expensive, but besides the puffy tacos, it did not deliver. Overall due to cleanliness, mediocre service and some subpar food items I give this place 3/5. read more

Me and my husband have been wanting to try this place for a long time. Wish I would of stayed away. We had reservations for 3 on a Saturday night. We had to valet park, and it was not free. We got seated right away. Took a good 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us, but finally someone did. We got served chips and salsa, the worst I have ever tasted, chips were cold and tasted old. Got our drinks order and I had a ginger margarita, it was terrible. I order a regular, next time it was okay. We then order our food me and my mom order the Lopez dinner, I wanted to substitute a cheese enchilada for a chili verde, the waiter told me that I had to separate my whole order, get this he charged me, 1 enchilada cheese 6.50 1 verde enchilada 7.50 2 small crispy tacos 9.34 Rice 4.00 That was the beginning of the bill, the rest was ridiculous. My husband small octopus pastor was 35.00. chili con queso was 12.00, I don't mind paying good money for food but, but this was not worth it. besides the service being bad, where they sat us was right by the water service desk out back outside, something flew off that table and hit me on my head, the waiter saw this and all he had to say was oh sorry I will pick it up, which he never did. He never came to ask how I was; they also got our order wrong, and to top it off the waiter charged us the wrong amount on our bill, if I had not look at the total, he would have gotten away with over charging us for two Lopez's instead of one. Get this he gave us the receipt with the total and transaction, not the ticket with the items we ordered. I had to ask for the details on because I knew that it was not the right amount. I guess he thought maybe we were drunk or something. I would hate to think about other customers who got cheated on their tickets and they did not notice. We never got an apology; this place is a joke. I will never come back here again. Worst service ever and that includes the food. Skip this place for sure. read more

First thing is first, Ford Fry makes a good looking restaurant. They took the Treadsack flagship, Bernadine's, and transformed it to an homage to Houston Tex-Mex over the years. If you look around the room, you can see Goode Co. Taqueria, Ninfa's, Pico's, Chuy's and all the hole in the walls represented in decor. My favorite space is the bar area where there's vintage sparkly diner booths, an 80's glass block wall, and that Instagram magnet, the big red Felix neon sign front and center behind the bar. When it came down to the food, we decided to order across the menu and share plates to try a little of everything. On deck was the Chili Con Queso, Camarones Brochetas, Beef Fajitas, Tampiquena and tres leches. The Tampiquena was a grilled skirt steak with two cheese enchiladas and a fried egg. Enchiladas were perfect with the egg topper to boot. Skirt steak itself was a little overcooked and chewy. Chili Con Queso, was thin and you really need to hit home runs with queso at a tex-mex place...Camarones Brochetas were shrimp wrapped in bacon, fire grilled. The shrimps were huge and delicious but the bacon was over fired and just bitter burnt crumbles. Beef Fajitas, the fajita meat was perfectly cooked and great quality. The tortillas though, were heavy on the flour and bland. The tres Leches was great. Overall everything was good but had little missteps that stood out. Service was great. Very attentive staff and everyone seemed to be having a blast working at the new cool spot. We didn't see a terrible wait for seating and everything was bustling along at a smooth clip. This isn't the first Superica, there are 3 others. 2 are in Atlanta and another in Charlotte, NC. This is a chain of restaurants that praise Tex-Mex, finally opening one back in Texas. Based off our meal, if this was in Atlanta it would (and obviously does) pass as great tex-mex. In the home of great tex-mex though, it just isn't quite up to snuff. You've got Atlanta recipes being brought down to the new storefront in Houston, teaching Houston cooks how to make great tex-mex...They need to trust their local cooks and let them get some of the authenticity back into the details. My takeaway is that at the end of the day, this place is shiny new and trendy fun, but when all that rubs off, will the food be bringing folks back? There's a ton of good tex-mex in town. Time will tell and hopefully things improve. I'm sure I'll be back for a second take soon enough. read more

We chose to sit outside and it was not that hot, but they do have fly problems which comes with any outdoor sitting. We ordered puffy taco and vegetable fajitas. 1. Fajitas were well seasoned but I felt like it was missing key vegetables. They have combination of sweet potato, cabbage, whole corn, and few pieces of pepper. Served with 3 flour tortillas. I felt like 3 wasn't enough for amount of food that was served, so maybe consider adding an extra order of tortillas to your order. 2. Puffy tacos was a fried shell with layer of avocado, cheese and lettuce. It was served with black beans and white rice. This dish could use some work as the puffy taco itself felt plastic if not eaten right away. They tried to remake the dish once but to no avail. The manager was nice enough to take it off our tab as we didn't enjoy it. Maybe add more to the taco itself like pico, peppers or anything to make it more flavorful. Very solid Tex mex spot! The restaurant is really cute with a darker, louder vibe. We sat outside on the patio which was quieter, had water misting, and twinkle lights for a very relaxing vibe. Their margaritas are pretty good and very reasonably priced (around $10). I got the mezcal margarita and it had a great smoky flavor which I love. For starters we got the campechana de mariscos which I HIGHLY recommend and was one of the highlights of our meal. We also started with the tuna tostado which was very tasty but a little smaller of a portion than expected for the price. For the main course we split the chicken/steak fajitas between two people and it was a perfect portion size. The steak was cooked medium and had great flavor and tenderness. The chicken was juicy and also tasted great! Overall had a great experience and it's a fun spot for a date night or to go with a group. We did join the online waiting list on a Saturday around 7:30 and there was a 55 min wait which was pretty accurate. So definitely plan ahead! read more

I'm not usually a pancake person because the syrup is too sweet but someone recommended the pancakes for brunch here and it is the best pancake and syrup I've ever had! It wasn't too sweet, just so perfect. Everyone should try it. We got one to share with our meals and we couldn't finish our meal or the pancake, So much food. I had the pork belly tacos and could only eat one, they were delicious as well. My boyfriend had a coffee and he loved it along with Migas potatoes and eggs and he quickly declared this was the best brunch we've had in a long time. The atmosphere was great and relaxing. It didn't feel like we were waiting long for our food at all, however someone brought us out some cut veggies with dip because they said there kitchen was a little backed up, less than two minutes later our food came. The prices are so low it's actually unbelievable, they must be banking on the fact that most folks will order alcohol to actually make something off the brunch. The staff is incredibly friendly and is probably the biggest reason I go at least once a week now (I used to be a Tony's regular until I found this place and realized it was 10000000000X better). They have a patio outside playing usually some calming classical music (so good for older people hard of hearing) and are dog friendly on the patio. The red salsa is the best there is. Bar none. If you go for dinner, my go to is the El tampiauena with extra butter sauce as well as the pork belly tacos Rico style! I'd give this restaurant 6 stars if it was an option! read more

Food was served in a prompt amount of time and everything was tasty. The only thing I didn't enjoy was that it is very loud inside and at times we felt like we were shouting trying to talk to each other. I know that's not the restaurant's fault or something they can necessarily control, but just wanted to mention it so others can be aware before going here. The Chile Relleno was smothered in sauce and not my favorite. Only 4 stars as it took 10 minutes to get chips, no water, nothing. 20 minutes to get our drink order, 1 hr to get food. If I were the owner I wouldn't want drinks to take that long, that's how you make the money. Since it took so long we only ordered one. Also, it was Sunday evening, the bathrooms were not clean and the interior was not clean. We sat outside. This turned out to not be the best option because our server was the bartender and she did not come around often. Went around 7 on a Wednesday and it was pretty much empty. I am from Atlanta and we loved eating at the Superica at Krog Street before we moved to Houston. So naturally we were thrilled when we found out they were bringing one to Houston. The food is just as delicious and it is a great place to hang out and drink in The Heights. We got the lunch special for two enchiladas. We chose the mole and chicken souza. Both were delicious but the mole was better. It came with rice and beans. We also got the chile relleno. It was very good. We had plenty of leftovers and the price was right. Wanted to like this place as I have been on the lookout for Tex Mex since moving from out of state, however, I was left severely disappointed overall. My wife and I ordered the tacos de barbacoa, tacos de pescado, and carne asada. Unfortunately the dishes were all quite bland and a bit overpriced for what we got. On top of that, they took forever to come out due to a back-up in the kitchen according to our server. To their credit, we were given complimentary queso to comp us for the wait, however, it was not something we would have ordered if given the choice ourselves. Our server, while friendly, was absent for much of the evening. Finally, the hibiscus margarita was not mixed well and tasted like straight alcohol. I used to be a weekly regular at Superica but frankly their food isn't good enough to merit this kind of price gouging. Houston is tex mex city. Lots of better and more affordable options for patrons. Superica prices are screaming that a recession is imminent. But during recessions people don't stop going out - they just choose less fancy restaurants. So I'll be driving across town to eat at Chuys. I doubt superica will survive a recession with their current pricing. read more
