The five star review is for the service, chips and salsa. My daughter and I actually came here by accident thinking it was La Lucha but we were told we could order from La Lucha menu there. We put our name on the list and we were lucky to find two spots at the bar. Out came the basket of tortilla chips beautifully fried and two different salsas. One was smokey the other was more fresh and I was told blended with avocados. Being a smokey mezcal lover I preferred the smokey one. My daughter the other one. It was a win win situation. Roman was out bartender and he was an absolute delight! I don't like sweet drinks so I ordered a mezcal rita...not too sweet and it was perfect. The bar started to get crowded as people started coming in and waiting for tables. The guys behind the bar were on point! They were super friendly and running that bar like a well oiled machine. After looking through their extensive menu, I decided to order tacos al carbon with crispy pork belly. It was delicious! I don't typically have tacos in flour tortillas but it added really well to the texture and flavor of the meal. The pork belly was absolute perfection! First off what a super cool name for a Mexican restaurant that caught our eyes and ears when a good Houstonian recommend this spot for dinner to us! This is a spot you want to have a really good and fulfilling meal if you can make it out as it is super easy to get to and there is complimentary valet parking as well. First off the ambiance of Superica is pretty rad. I love how it made me feel like I was stepping into a friend's home for some tasty drinks and food. Their whole aesthetic including their website, menu, logos, and marketing all come across as super hip, cool, and smooth. The smells alone, when you walk in, are worth coming in for as all you can smell is the fajitas and the tasty smells of all of their food cooking behind scenes. We came in during happy hour and was pleasantly surprised to see several booths and seats at the bar completely open for us to choose from. I was also happy to see they have lunch specials here as well which I would not miss if I lived in Houston. For less than $15 buckeroos you can try all of their menu items and basically do a sample of their entire menu in one-go. We opted for fajitas, quesadillas, nachos, fresh margaritas, and enchiladas for our meal with our friends. There was plenty of food to share (and even if you don't want to no one will mind getting their own because everything is SO dang good here) and the chips and salsa were refilled and replenished before we could even see the bottom of the basket. Do not sleep on their housemade horchata or their agua de dia (the fresh water of the day) as you will want to have something refreshing to maybe pair with some Tito's vodka (perhaps) or your favorite tequila. I am jealous I won't be around for brunch any time soon but when I am back in Houston I am definitely going to go by during brunch hours because their menu looks fun and tasty as heck! read more

We got the chicken fajitas and the chicken came out pretty charred. To the point where the burnt taste overwhelmed the chicken. So I would probably pass on the chicken fajitas here if I went back. The salsas here are amazing! The inside has such a great set up. Very lively and they have a bar area if you're just going in for a quick drink. All in all it was a good experience. I made a reservation for Sunday brunch. We were no more than 5 min late. The hostess bluntly said she marked us as a "no show". I honestly wish I replied that we can just leave then, it was so rude and made us feel so unwelcome the rest of our time there. Our waitress was good but they were clearly understaffed. She had tables everywhere from across the far side of the restaurant to the outside patio so she wasn't able to check on us much. We were done eating for a while and eventually got up to get our own to-go boxes. The pancakes were fantastic, enchiladas were just okay. It was expensive. The worst part was when I got my car back from valet. I noticed the floor mat driver side was muddy. When we started driving away I heard a concerning noise and pulled over. The noise was mud clumps falling off the wheels. They must have parked my car in a ditch with several feet of mud as the wheels and arch above the wheels were completely covered. Frustrating to pay to have my car parked to get it back so dirty and then have to pay to get it cleaned. Even after washing it still has mud by the wheels. Won't be back. read more

Excited to brunch at La Pera's sister restaurant hoping for the same experience, but was a bit disappointing . We arrived right as they opened and we were greeted and sat down in the outdoor patio area. Amber was our server, and we ordered a seasonal agua Fresca, iced coffee, Migas plate, and the Huevos Divorciados plate. Chips + house made salsas are a great start! Love the crunchiness of the chips, and I appreciate they aren't salted. The darker salsa has a bit of a Smokey flavor and the green sauce is your house cilantro style salsa. My dish, the Huevos Divorciados, comes with chilaquiles and served over a bed of fried tortilla, but sadly as this is the main part of the dish...it was stale and I could taste the old and expired chips. It tasted bad, possibly bad oil...but mostly just stale. I did appreciate the freshness of all the other ingredients, and loved the pickled, fermented carrots and onions. My husband ordered the Migas and his was good, but I thought that Amber's section was over sat, and she wasn't as attentive as we had expected. This is one of my top 3 favorite Tex-Mex restaurants in Houston! The margaritas are fresh with real fruit and not the premade overly sugary mixes. They have my favorite salsas to start your meal with, one green with a kick and the black one with a smokey flavor. Their flautas are crispy and juicy and so flavorful. Their salads are wonderful too, but I prefer the fajitas. I love how there are small juicy chunks of tomatoes in the rice. Service is always great. Simple requests such as straws, drink refills, and more salsa were ignored. We were having to flag down other servers for basics. The restaurant is also super loud during dinner. The music is blasting and everyone is talking louder so the person next to you can hear you. Forget talking to someone across the table, it's too loud to make conversation. The salsas are the star at the restaurant, not only do they go well with the chips they also compliment the food. We enjoyed all of the food we ordered. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Houston, and I'm pretty picky. Admittedly, I do base most of that off of their salsa, so that wins me over. Their lighter green salsa is some of the best I've had. I like the darker one as well, but it is a bit smokier. As for the rest of their food, their chicken suizas are delicious. We had the vegetable ones as well. I have had the street tacos as well, but the enchiladas are my favorite. It is a beautiful restaraunt in a great location, and it is always very lively. Ordered ground beef enchiladas from the dinner menu. This was my first and last visit. The food came out in under 10 minutes, however upon taking my first bite it was very apparent that they had served me OLD beef. The taste was terrible and it was truly inedible. Image the worst elementary school cafeteria enchiladas you can, and then multiply it by two. Spoiled beef is a huge health concern. The server was friendly, however she did not check back on our table until she thought we might need boxes, in which time the spoiled enchiladas sat there un-replaced. I refused to have them replaced with something else, I can only guess what else is a health concern in that kitchen. Although the manager did let me know that my assessment was correct, the beef had been thrown out, and took the enchiladas off my check, serving old meats to your guests is a moral and safety concern. read more
