I may have followed the sheep to this place, but I'm certainly not sticking w the flock. First, the good. The gyros are huge. There was actually too much meat! When does that happen? Then, there's the owner. He's friendly & personable. He makes up for the staff that wasn't so much. Now, the bad. There are only 2 things a restaurant should ever smell like... 1) the food it prepares, & 2) the fragrance of its patrons. Ok, the fragrance bit is more for dinner houses & date nights. I love going out for a nice dinner & how all the ladies (& stylish gents) are wearing their best perfume & cologne. It adds to the overall intoxication of dinner & drinks. But when a restaurant has an undefinable "scent," or even worse, a definable negative one, it is not a good thing. The particulars here are a mystery. It did not smell like bug spray or insecticide. That's a plus, but that doesn't mean that isn't what it was. It could have been a cleaning product. In which case, they should get a new one. Now, to the meat of the matter. Generous is great, but the quality of the meat was sharply mediocre. I guess I can't expect much when it's so cheap. But, I'd rather pay more for something better. Yummy. Very authentic Gyros! The owner is very customer oriented! And will have a conversation with you while he's cooking or while he's taking an order. It is good to see owner that actually works hard and his restaurant and is proud of his food and happy for his customers. read more

Recently stopped in for a Gyro sandwich and fries. Both were excellent. The fries were fresh and golden brown. The Gyro was flavorful and stuffed full! The service was great, very friendly. I recommend them and will be back when in the area. No pics this time. Feeding my hunger took priority. read more

Just tried this place for the first time and can't believe I have been missing out on their great food! The service was very friendly and helpful. I have a gluten allergy and was happy to learn that the majority of their food is gluten free and does not contain soy or msg. Everything was very fresh and delicious. The prices were great and the small dining room was cozy and clean. We had the gyro meat, hummus and falafel. Can't wait to go back and try some more items! read more

SUPER-CRAPPOLA GYROS THAT ARE FIT FOR A PSYCHOPATH'S CAFETERIA! Need I say more, unfortunately yes! I just so happened to be driving by and I got a weird impulse to try this place, since I was hungry yet again. Ever since I was diagnosed with a Vitamin D deficiency, I have been Mega-dosing with 50,000 IU every few days. It has miraculously relieved muscle/skeletal/neuropathic pains, made me feel like superman, need much less sleep, made me happier, made me more intelligent, BUT IT HAS ALSO, MADE ME DAMNED HUNGRY ALL THE TIME! The frustrating thing is that this in very poorly documented in my research of most medical journals and studies (on Medline). Now, I am an official "Vitamin Nut". God help me...I used to laugh at my Vitamin Nut brother! Anyway, back to this dive. I went in and ordered a Gyro for just over $4 and some fries for &1.50. The fellow I ordered from was pleasant. I then went to sit down, and like other more sober Yelpers noticed, they had Fox news on. While waiting forever, for a simple Gyro, I had too look at something, and there were three choices, after I got tired of the iphone, as follows: 1) The glaring white bright institutional type walls, with a white ceiling, and a white floor...only broken by the cafeteria style tables & chairs, a pathetic mural or two, and a fake plastic plant. Ugh! I have worked in far nicer prison or State Mental Hospital cafeterias than this! 2)Fox News babbling in the background about the Bush & Blair legacy. With some nice scenes of playbacks of 9/11, which really upset me. I knew people who died there, I suffered a grief reaction, and then I gave public lectures in Hawaii, as a mental health professional, on how to deal with 9/11....one main idea was to limit media exposure! Thank you Fox News & SuperGyro for some more media induced SUFFERING! 3)People dressed in the crappiest clothes possible. With one idiot having fun flinging a bottle cap off his table...am I in a remake of "One Flew Over The Cuckcoo's Nest", but no one bothered to tell me? After everyone, but me, seemed to get their food, mine finally came. The fries were much better than the Gyro. The Gyro was skimpy with too little veges... I think there were like two small fingernail sized pieces of tomato there, if any. There was enough sauce & meat, but the meat was too dry and overcooked. I thought that the spinning SuperGyro machine was idiot proof, but not with the right super-idiots apparently. Little did I know, I was in GYRO HELL, TRAPPED WITH PSYCHOPATHS, IN A SIMULATED STATE MENTAL HOSPITAL CAFETERIA, FORCED TO WATCH THE TOWERS FALL AGAIN & AGAIN! I absolutely loved...oophs...loathed the place! I apologize to the fans of this place & the management. One extra star for the pleasant staff & fans. You people really need to eat some good Gyros to see what you are missing (please see other in town reviews for ideas). This place resides in a tiny strip mall, coincidentally across from a falafel place on the other side of McHenry. The prices were extremely good, and I asked what kind of meat was in the gyros, and I was told that it was a beef-lamb mixture, which I know is very good. I'm really missing the typical Greek food from Philly, so this place seems to fill that need. The man behind the counter was friendly and helped me through the options. They didn't have Mountain Dew. Oh, well. I ended up with Snapple Iced Tea with Lemon and the gyros. It wasn't too long and it was delivered to me. I opened the foil and it seemed to become much bigger. The lettuce, tomato, and onion were at the bottom of the pita, so it didn't fall all over the place. There was a mountain of meat. At noon time, it seemed quite fresh, and had a decent amount of tzatziki sauce. I'll never have to think about going back to Philly for a gyros now. read more

Before I moved out of state, I came here as often as possible for lunch or a quick dinner and it quickly became our favorite places for gyros and - my favorite - the chicken teriyaki plate, not to be confused with the Asian dish - theirs is savory grilled chicken with Mediterranean spices and amazing grilled onions. It comes with their delicious buttery saffron rice and a fresh iceberg-lettuce salad with tomatoes and cucumbers, and a side of tzatziki and big slices of warm pita bread. I just returned the other day after a few years away, and Robert (the owner) STILL remembered me and shook my hand. Same great, friendly employees working the kitchen. Same amazing, top-notch food, cooked totally to order. We got takeout teriyaki chicken for me and my husband wished he'd ordered his own, mine was so good. The restaurant is simple but clean, with lots of seating and a television on in the corner. Looks like they replaced their name-brand soda machine with a generic one (I think Fanta and other colas in there), but nobody seems to mind and they also added a lot of bottled drinks like Snapple and other yummy drinks. All I've had so far was the gyro and sandwhich with garlic mayo(an absolute must) and the hummus. They are so damn good that I can't bring myself to try anything else. The guy that works there is super nice too. Portion sizes are big as well. read more

If you love gyros this is the place and I love their French fries, better than McDonald's! Their falafel are ok, I don't know if they were cooked in old oil when I ordered but I've had better. Other than that everything was above expectations. Would definitely recommend read more

First of all the food was amazing! The portion is very reasonable for the price that you pay. I was very impressed with the chicken kabob because of the flavor. The amount of meat they put in the gyro is unbeatable. Yummy yummy! I wish they would put more lettuce with the gyro sandwich. They place is pretty straightforward and clean. I come here for take out only. They are quick and the gyro sandwiches are good. You have to ask for extra sauce. read more

Before my son's food even was ready I had bitten into a very bad piece of shrimp tempura that tasted as if the inside of the batter was covered in mold. I immediately spit it back out into a napkin and just sat there about to throw up. I sat there thinking this is probably just a mistake and maybe I imagined it. Then my son showed me his chicken that he said he didn't want to eat. It was old, rubbery, did not resemble chicken at all, and had black stuff around the chicken under the batter. I went to the worker who was at the counter and told her what we had received. She didn't seem surprised at all, but more surprised I wanted a refund for the two items that were spoiled. No manager onsite, apparently they usually aren't there. She called the manager who did not answer the phone but proceeded to text the worker. Asking exactly what happened several times and then proceeded to say the black on the chicken is seasoning before it's fried, which is not true because the come pre battered and it was just old. I had accepted no refund on the chicken for the ridiculous excuse, but I wanted a refund on the donburi bowl at the very least. The manager asked her to open my napkin and send a pic of the shrimp!!!! THAT IS SO NASTY! That young girl does not get paid enough to be doing all of that. That is revolting! I ended up opening it for her so she didn't have to so she could and a pic. Then the manager stopped responding to her by text. That's fine, Manager, that's fine. You should've just given me a refund for your nasty ass food that was not edible. Now you'll be receiving a visit from the county health department as they were called the moment I left your restaurant because of the food being kept at room temperature, your dirty facility, and the spoiled food you're serving to paying customer. This idiot sent me into my Karen era and I do not even care. Don't mess with people's food. Good luck.

However, my concern lies with the dismissive attitude and the decision to challenge the customer's request in front of them. This interaction left a poor impression, and as a result, I do not plan to return to this establishment. I will instead continue supporting my usual coffee shops.
