Was in the Fox hills mall and saw this place was pretty well reviewed, so I decided to give it a shot. The interior is pretty modern, with sports playing on some big screens and lots of large tables for families. The server I spoke to was very friendly and accommodating, and I was able to place my takeout order easily and got my food quicker than expected. I got a couple of things to share, including the beef rolls, crab and beef xlb, chicken xlb, some chili oil wontons, and the chocolate xlb. The beef rolls weren't bad, the beef was tasty but compared to other beef rolls I've had, it was a bit one note and lacking in fillings. The crab and beef xlb was a little interesting, but they particularly mesh well and the flavors just kinda coexisted. The chicken xlb was better and had some solid flavor, still a step down from a proper xlb place out east but not bad. The chili oil wontons were oddly sweet, which I'm not personally a fan of. And finally, the chocolate xlb had some nice quality chocolate and had a nice burst of chocolatey sweetness. Opinions were divided, and it's definitely not for everyone, but I personally liked it. Overall quality wasn't bad, and for a mall restaurant probably one of the better ones, but if you've had good xlb elsewhere you probably won't be impressed. read more

Where to start with Super Dumpling?! This place is new at Fox Hills Mall. They are a Halal Chinese restaurant near Five Guys and they are quick with taking your order and bringing food to the table, but how is the food? We tried several half/lunch dishes to try a little of everything and there was nothing we did not like. We had some wonton soup, soup dumplings, noodles, pan fried dumplings, orange chicken and lamb dish that were all equally tasty and delicious!! There wasn't anything we would not try again. We liked it so much that we are already planning on going back! Even the drinks were amazing! Not overly sweet. The ambiance is casual and modern with comfortable tables. The shrimp fried rice I ordered specifically because it is made withOUT soy sauce, which is authentic. (PS. Any fried rice that is dark brown in color, that is an Americanized dish. You want slightly off-white color and NO soy sauce in it) --it was fluffy and delicious! We also ordered some spring rolls and but the biggest hit was the beef buns, which are steamed and juicy, yet have a crispy griddled bottom. if you want about authentic Chinese food, there are many options to choose from such as lamb with cumin, black pepper beef , etc that are authentic despite there being some Americanized dishes such as orange chicken. -Service: the manager Nes, is incredibly hospitable and professional, he would text me back-and-forth proactively to help solidify the catering menu and coordinate all the details. Personal favorites are the orange chicken (crispy and flavors explode deliciously in your mouth), garlic string beans were perfect, the shrimp dumplings were my favorite but the beef and chicken ones are also so good with each bite having a perfect amount of broth inside. Another personal favorite was the crab fried rice. Flavors where expected yet unexpectedly so good! We came for my husband's birthday and the waitress was super nice, gave him a slice of cake and with it we ordered the chocolate dumplings. Wow, where to start... I'm giving super dumpling two stars instead of one because I appreciate the effort to bring Asian cuisine to this area. However, this restaurant needs a lot of work. It's been open for 3 weeks.. and it shows. It took over the Wocano space and they still have yet to remove some of that branding as you'll see in the photos. What is perplexing to me about the establishment? Is that it's Halal. So like the Jewish Orthodox, they don't allow any pork. Pork is a major component of Chinese and Asian cuisine. To not offer that protein is a head scratcher. The space is massive, and they have yet to properly address some of the excess open space. The space is literally big enough for two discrete restaurants. Sadly they don't offer the lunch special on weekends so we went with the full entree. Because they didn't offer pork, we didn't get the dumplings with soup in them. We got the fried noodle dish with Yang Chow... It was average at best. We didn't want the chicken because it's dark meat... And that's another strike for the restaurant. They didn't give us extra protein like they said they would. Also, the noodles weren't hot enough. Lacking veggies and flavor too... The shrimp sui mai was just okay. The menu prices are too high in my opinion. I think a $1 to $2 reduction is needed based off the food quality Our server was by herself, and to be blunt... She wasn't very good. She didn't check up on us and we sat around for 5 minutes waiting for the check. It may have been because she was by herself running around a massive restaurant, but we didn't leave a tip. As you see by my reviews, and I have a lot of them, we give a lot of chances to new restaurants. I've lived here for over 20 years and I'm sad to say that over the last 6 to 7 years the restaurant quality has taken a dip in service and food quality an increase in price. Newly opened (soft opening) at the old Wokcano space at Westfield Culver City, Super Dumpling boasts a terrific menu with dim sum (outstanding), Chinese dishes and noodles (delicious) sushi and more. Went in for a late lunch and was able to taste several items across the menu as you can order full and half-size orders of just about everything. Loved the Orange chicken, the Crab Beef Xiao Long Bao were juicy and out of this world, and the Beef and Potato Bao was tender and tasty. Food. Very good halal restaurant. 4.5 but I had to pick a solid star so I chose 4 since there needs some improvements. The menu had some sushi dishes and seafood boil which seemed out of place. They have beef and crab xiao long bao (no pork! Yay!) and beef pan fried bao (a little on the sweet side but it was still good). Portions are a little smaller but their dumplings are standard and comparable to din tai fung (which has pork in their XLB). Service was mediocore the 1st time but improved dramatically the 2nd time. I knew there was a location in OC and now they opened one in Culver City. WestLA really needs more Asian restaurants. We came with a party of 6 and each of us paid around $33, much cheaper than Ding Tai Fu. - pan fried beef dumplings 5/5 were one absolute favorite, due to their crispy skin and full of inner beef soups. -beef steamed dumplings 5/5. You'll think the basic dumplings are average but the flavor is unique, gingery and herby. I actually love this the most, more than pan fried beef dumplings. -Crab Beef XLB 5/5 are filled with inner hot soups. The skin is thin, not as thin as DTF but much thinner than places like Mama Lu. -beef and potato bun 3/5 was unique combination. They are indeed filling but lots of starch and the flavor is alright only, not enough beef flavor. -Crispy Chicken Wonton 4/5 was rather expensive for the portion. It was alright with no particular unique flavor. But it was so crispy. -shrimp siu mai was okay. 4/5 it tastes like other dimsum place. -Spicy Stir-fried Beef 3/5 has spicy hint but mild. The combination with veggies make the plate completed. It is oily however but you can't go wrong with eating with rice. Highly recommend but the price is steep for portion. -Mongolian Beef 3/5. Another recommend dish with flavor of true mongolian beef. Somehow the dish is $17.50 but the portion is small. -chicken dumpling soup 2/5. The chicken broth is canned.
