    Orange chicken fries
    Sam S.

The service was great and friendly. Their famous orange chicken fries were great, but they were more spicy mayo fries than orange chicken fries. Luckily I love spicy mayo. I think the orange chicken lacked a bit of flavor and wasn't as sweet as I would like, but maybe the spicy mayo overpowered it. It was crispy and texturally great. My order could have used some more green onions. They gave me a sample of their BBQ pork and it was great and juicy, but the fries alone were enough for 2-3 portions for me so I couldn't eat more. I'd come back for sure.

We came here for the viral orange chicken and fries. We also ordered a combo B which comes with your choice of chow mein/fried rice/half-and-half. For the entrees, we got barbecue pork and onion chicken. The orange chicken and fries were cooked to order, and they tasted as expected. There was a nice sweet glaze covering the chicken and fries. The fries were crispy and covered with sprinkled cheese, green onion and aioli sauce. The order came piping hot and it was great. It hit the spot for us, and we were pretty excited. Watching the combo B getting made was awesome to see; they don't mess around with the portion size. I came with my wife, but it could have served another adult too. The combo B itself was your typical Chinese fast food. It's not the highest quality or the most healthy but for the quantity and the value, I was pretty satisfied. On a bonus note: the ladies taking our order were super nice and parking was easy. The seating inside was limited but we managed to get a seat when we went at 2 pm on Saturday.

Famous, totally worth it, Orange chicken with fries.

We were headed to the Forum, in Inglewood, for a concert. We needed food that we could pick up and take with us. We found this establishment and everyone agreed that it looked good. Private lot in a strip center. It was around 6pm, lots of parking. There was a small line and this place is tiny inside. The line moves quickly. My son had the teriyaki chicken with chow mein. My daughter had to get orange chicken with fries. I did the combo with bbq pork and jalapeño chicken. The portions are massive, the food remained hot, as we ate in the parking lot of the Forum. The orange chicken fries were really good. The sauce and red peppers had a nice kick. I think that was our whole groups favorite dish. Close behind was the bbq pork. Slightly charred exterior but still moist inside. The teriyaki chicken was really good too. Four of us ate and we took home probably half of everything, yes the portions are that big. The prices are beyond reasonable. I think we spend around $35. When we are in the area we will return.

    Orange chicken is fabulous!

So glad we found this restaurant!! The food is fresh and amazing. The servings are huge too

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 I haven't been to this Chinese fast food restaurant for a while and they did not disappoint. They have new menu called orange chicken fries which seems to be very popular. While I was sitting I saw a lot of people ordering it. It is a must try dish. It was made to order and sauce was balanced. Also grabbed two item combo with onion chicken and spicy wings with chow mein. Portion was large, seems like double of PE. Taste is on par with other Chinese fast food places but their customer service win. This is my favorite Chinese fast food place and highly recommended.

This is exactly what you hope for with a one dollar sign Chinese place! The place does mostly takeout but they do have 3 tables if you want to eat here. Their menu is pretty concentrated but they are really good at what they make. The combo A plate ($9.49) is one item with chow mein and/or rice. Combo B ($11.49) is the same with 2 items & Combo C ($13.95) is 3 items. I got Orange chicken & beef & broccoli and it was really good. Girlfriend got Orange chicken and mushroom chicken and it all was really good. The guy in line bonus said the BBQ pork is really good & Id like to try that next time. Also note that they don't give water cups so either bring your own or plan on buying a bottle of water or a beverage. All-in-all this was a 5 star, one dollar sign experience - we will be back!

The service was amazing! Their dining area was very clean and well kept. They were very kind and attended to everyone that they come into the restaurant in an effective manner. Is amazing and fresh. I ordered a combo b platter. Sesame balls and tempura shrimp. Best place to stop at if you're ever in the area

Rice, chow main, orange chicken , mushroom chicken, and cream cheese ragoons

Seen this place on IG so thought I'd try. Portion was great for the Price , I got the three combo plate rice in chalmain , orange chicken , mushroom chicken and ragoons. Orange Chicken had absolutely no flavor Mushroom chicken was okay. The Rago's tasted only like cream cheese, no seasoning, nothing else, but they said there was imitation, crab meat, which I did not get. just overall, the food was not that great.

Solidly 4 stars. Huge portions and tasty food but I wouldn't say's it's the best quality. The chicken to breading ratio is not great but still a great meal. Parking is easy and the service is quick. There are a few booths inside to sit at so this is perfect for a quick tasty lunch and portions are large enough to share

Very personable and friendly staff! The server was always quick to let the customer know when a fresh batch was coming out. Good Chinese fast food. And their unique Orange chicken fries were delicious ! There are a few tables available if you want to eat there. We will definitely return again!

China Express doesn't waste time on vibes--they focus on what matters: big portions, solid flavor, and prices that feel like a throwback. The food hits every time, no fuss, no gimmicks, just consistently good Chinese takeout that somehow fills both your plate and your fridge for later. I came once out of curiosity, now I'm a regular out of respect.

I came here for dinner while I was in the area. This is a family owned restaurant that is well-maintained by the owners. They make their food fresh. I saw them making their chow mein noodles and orange chicken as soon as those dishes run out. They were constantly refilling their dishes with freshly cooked ones. I also ordered their Orange Chicken Fries because many customers were ordering this dish and I thought I would try it out. Their orange chicken fries did not disappoint! It was freshly made and chicken was tender inside and crunchy outside with a lot of sauce and melted cheese on top. Fries were served warm and they marinated well with the tangy sauce from the crispy orange chicken. Crispy fries were topped with juicy and golden battered chicken pieces that were marinated in a glossy tangy orange sauce. This was a perfect combination of sweet, tender, and citrusy flavors in one dish made from boring French fries. This China Express restaurant turned boring fries into finger-licking addictive fries with their delicious orange chicken. I saw many customers like this dish as much as I did. A lot of customers ordered this while I was eating there. Just an info, they also make special orders for vegetarian dishes upon customers' requests. I observed many customers were happy with the generous portion of foods. Their to-go containers were overflowing with all the delicious goodness of chinese foods. Every scoop is generous and people can eat dinner today and lunch tomorrow with two items combo. Everything that I ordered tasted delicious and fresh. I will definitely come here again to try other items on their menu. Staff were friendly, welcoming, and generous. Highly recommend this restaurant!

It was a but busy when we got there but luckily we got seared pretty shortly after arrival. We originally wanted to sit at the bar, but opted for a table for less wait time. When first looking at the menu we were shocked by the prices. I knew immediately i wanted to get the hui tou potstikers with pork and noodles. We ended up adding on the hongkong style wontons too. To my suprise the wontons arrived in a delicious and warm broth, keeping them perfectly moist and plump. The broth was so delicious even on a hot day, tasting faintly of sesame and scallion. Despite both dishes being pork they were so different and equally amazing in flavor. The pan fried potstikers which were CRISPED TO PERFECTION especially reminded me of black bean shortribs that you get from dimsum, fatty but hearty and had me wanting more and more each bite. The minced pork noodles were to no suprise, so good. Noodles tasted fresh, the sauce was umami with mushrooms and pork. While im not the biggest fan of mushrooms, i still ate it up. I feel it would be so good with some picked cabbage too to complement the saltiness. Most notable thing... THAT CHILI OIL. We probably used almost half the jar left at the table. It wasnt spicy at all, but it had this flavor that i genuinely have never tasted before. The texture of the chilli and sesame and the nutty flavor had me in awe. Enough to take two jars home... i would do it again. Servers were so quick, made sure everything we needed was at the table. Regardless of the crowd we were met with promptness and generosity. This that wonton place your girl tells you not to worry about forreal. Will be coming back despite the long drive from home.

That was my first mistake -- they don't even serve mu shu pork. That one's on me for not checking the menu first. I ended up getting my kung pao chicken and settled for the Mongolian beef, and veggie egg rolls. The Mongolian beef I could definitely pass on. The kung pao chicken was good at first, but somehow lost its flavor as the meal went on. The egg rolls were just okay. Nice and crispy on the outside, but too mushy on the inside for my liking. I was also pretty surprised (and a lot sad) that they didn't have hot mustard. The tea was really good though! Service was fine. The server was attentive, just clearly busy keeping up with all the takeout orders coming through. Ambience is definitely on the lower side here, so don't come expecting a nicer Chinese restaurant. It leans more Santa Ana burger joint vibes. That said, everything felt clean and they were pumping out a ton of takeout orders while we were there, so clearly they're doing something right. Overall, it just didn't hit for me, and I don't see myself coming back.

Then I went back to Firstborn twice within three months. This newly listed 2025 tasting menu spot actually made me feel a little hopeful about LA fine dining again. The shiso with razor clam and beef cheek cochon, and the black cod with green Sichuan pepper mala noodles, are both full-on collisions between deep animal savoriness and sharp, vivid spice. Then dishes like roasted artichoke and morel stuffed with green peas bring the seasonality into clear focus. The menu is not huge, but every dish has a defined structure and a bold sense of movement. On paper, it reads a little mysterious and intimidating; once you eat it, everything suddenly makes perfect sense, and honestly, it gets addictive. The ingredient selection and handling are also seriously thoughtful. Take the aged duck main course. I am very much a "if there is duck on the fine dining menu, I'm ordering it" person, and I've had plenty of beautifully rich, tender duck breasts. But Firstborn's version, beyond being tender and luscious, had that Cantonese sense of "gan xiang" -- the sweet, savory aroma you get from naturally air-dried, aged meats. For a second, I had this flashback to going with my family as a kid to Xing Fu Lou in Wenquan for Lutian cured meats during winter solstice. Absurdly good. Calling it the Duck King of the West Coast does not feel excessive. On my second visit, the truffle and wild mushroom "gnudi" was also excellent. The moment it hit the table, that intense truffle aroma made me think of the deep, earthy punch of French Périgord black truffle. But then I thought, wait, where are they getting Périgord in June? Turns out they were using Australian winter truffle, perfectly in season. That sourcing logic is smart. It is not expensive for the sake of being expensive; it actually understands the flavor window. The fire-grilled lamb saddle on the second visit was just as strong. It preserved the soft, tender texture of the cut without losing that sweet, milky lamb flavor. Grilled over open flame to a rosy medium rare, the flavor, doneness, and ingredient choice all landed. To me, a great restaurant comes down to three things: concept, ingredients, and seasoning. Some fine dining places love making everything complicated, stacking seven or eight ingredients together, serving a dozen-plus courses, and by the end you feel exhausted and sleepy. Firstborn is the opposite. It is unconventional, but from amuse-bouche to dessert, every dish explains its own logic clearly. Final feeling after the meal: addictive, interesting, and absolutely worth coming back for.

They didn't offer to sing a birthday song or anything for us. I really don't think we will come back again. Not recommended.
