This place is SO CLEAN! We chose a 10x20 climate-controlled unit and are very pleased so far. Everything is very secure and it doesn't feel like walking into a horror movie. Ha ha. The staff has been very helpful and accommodating, and when we had some minor drama with the movers, they assured me that everything we were promised from them would go as planned...and it did. This is an old warehouse that has been converted to a no-frills storage joint, and it brings with it some interesting challenges. The building itself is old and you can drive by it several times with ease if you aren't keeping your eyes peeled. There is an old "loading dock" around back that is in a shared parking lot and is a tight squeeze, only able to handle one truck at a time. The elevator is an old gated freight elevator that is surprisingly difficult to operate and most of the time does not stop level with the floors unless you manually "manipulate" it by activating the emergency stop features. However, the customer service team is extremely helpful and cares about having your needs met. The facility is big and it can be quite a walk from the elevator to your actual storage space. Bottom line: don't expect a Westy's. It works if you are looking for a cheap place to stash extra boxes and tinkets, however I recommend you take your furniture and big ticket items elsewhere.

Insurance - they charge an extra $12 insurance for "my protection" and will only take it off when I send my renters / house insurance. Why does it matter? If I don't have insurance I lost my stuff. If I have insurance and something happens, my insurance company will still handle the insurance, whether or not I showed you a copy of my insurance. My insurance on my personal items should not matter. It's just another way for them to charge extra fees and make it difficult for you to remove fees. If there's a way for them to rip you off, they will.

After hiring a moving company a couple years before, I knew what I liked and did not like. I had…read morerequested a quote from Collegian when I last moved in 2016. However, I went with another company, that quoted me a flat hourly rate. I thought a 3-man move would be quick and efficient, at only $150/hour, guess-timating about $500. However, those movers were not, in fact, efficient (mainly due to back-office/poor dispatching issues, since it was the end of the day). With Collegian, I dialed the phone number and reached a person. I didn't get re-routed to a local office. I spoke with an actual, local employee. I told him about the size of the job and what items I needed to move. I requested an early move time, which they put in my request. I immediately received an email confirmation with a link to my account details on the website. A couple days before the move, they confirmed via email, acknowledging my morning move-in request would be granted. I was given an arrival window of 8-10:30 am. At 8:30 am, I received a call that the crew was on its way. They added another man (from a two to three-man crew), which increased the price an extra $25/hour. I figured that the move would have gotten completed faster. By 9:15, the crew arrived and got started. It wasn't a huge move, just furniture. It took an hour to get everything in the truck and wrapped up. Once they got to the new location, it only took an hour to unload the truck and move everything in. Nothing was damaged. The crew (led by Rick) was professional, respectful, and efficient with their time. By 11:45, we were completing the paperwork to close out the job. The only snag was the final tally of the job cost. I was quoted around $4-500, but was billed for $750. It seemed high, so I double checked it and called the office the following Monday. George acknowledged the error and agreed to get me in touch with the bookkeeper. Erin, the accountant, got back to me with an invoice stating the amount I overpaid and promised to send a check to reimburse me for the over payment. THIS is how you run a business and merit a 5-star review; meeting expectations and correcting discrepancies in a timely fashion. Thank you, Collegian. I have fought many times and they do partial decreases. I'm paying more for storage than a luxury car payment. No temperature control. They simply don't care.
